This unit is supposed to be able to cool 550 sq ft but can't get my ~450 sq ft space down past 75, even at night when everything has cooled down outside! I'd be better off opening my window and putting the fan back in. Needless to say I am returning this and digging my old, heavy window air conditioner out of storage that actually works.

The unit came in and the packaging was not damaged, however, the exhaust piece that goes in the window was already broken. Apparently from the factory. That was the least of the problems come to find out.

I get home and hear a noise that sounds as if a chainsaw is battling a garbage disposal in the house. I ask the girlfriend what that noise is, but she can't hear me becasue the noise is that loud. It was ridiculous. The air coming from the unit was cold, but the noise was unbearable. There is no possible way people could use this machine at night while attempting to sleep without using earplugs.

We already have a LG portable air conditioner and it sounds like a baby sleeping compared to the Honeywell unit.

To find out if the machine was supposed to make that racket, I emailed the company and have yet to hear anything back.

I rarely return anything, chalking most bad purchases up to a learning experience, however, this machine is no bueno.

Ok so this air conditioner... heard a lot of bad things about it. This was AFTER we bought it, and then right when we got it 2 days later we started seeing bad reviews on it. Now then onto the review. First day owning this we had some problems. First of all, it is true that it wouldn't go past 75 degrees. (we waited for like 3 hours and it was still stuck at 75.)HOWEVER we had a stroke of genious. We put a small square board under the AC,and within 2 hours it was down to almost 70 degrees from 80 HUGE improvement. Second of all we did have a problem with water leaking everywhere... HOWEVER this also had a simple solution my father took out a black cap in the lower back of the AC and placed a tube in it to vent the water. water goes into a jug... PROBLEM SOLVED no water leaking all over the wooden board. There is VERY little water in the jug (infact checking it now there is NO water anywhere in the jug, on the carpet, OR on the board. I say if your having problems with it and you have a carpet floor get a square board, and place the board under the AC. You'll see an improvement in your AC cooling productivity. I hope this helped many of you with the same problem we have.

Honest reviews on Honeywell MM14CHCS 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Heat

I've had this a/c unit since may-2013, it is almost august-2013.

I don't usually review stuff but, I feel this a/c is getting unfairly treated.

the first day I had that same problem with water getting everywhere, I wasn't sure why there was so much especially when most of the water was supposed to be vented out in the exhaust supposedly. Second I had the problem with the temperature not really going below a certain temperature.

So, after messing with the control's, and failing. I decided to consult the manual, it told me that all I had to do was make sure it was on the little ice icon, not on the one it was originally defaulted to. I honestly thought this was the correct setting in the first place, but I guess I never gave it chance. This solved both my temperature issue and my water issue. I don't have to put any kind of drain on my a/c and at night it has easily hit 72 ( had it set on 71). It also says that on the fan setting it acts like a dehumidifier and that is when the reservoir fill and that is when you need to add your little drain pipe(this was the setting it was set on). I forget there is like two more settings.

There is one other thing with this a/c and pretty much all other portables that I've seen, even though they vent out most of the moisture, some times depending on how humid it gets you might need to empty out the top reservoir( I think there is some warning that lets you know though). This has never happened to me and I live in Houston, Texas it is extremely humid, with average humidity levels sitting around 78 and above and temperature that have hit 104 degrees F.

Last thing about portable a/c's is on average they cool about 100 sqft. less than window units(as per btu). ( like a 14000 btu window unit will cool about 550 sqft. so a 14000 btu portable unit will cool 450 sqft.) so when you going to buy a portable unit keep that in mind.

Didn't cool well at all! Tried it for 3 days, finally around 2am it would get down to 76 degrees, but then as the day got hotter, so did the room, during the day, it would only cool to 85! Very disappointed, read reviews before I bought and they all seemed positive, even spoke with Honeywell wondering if I had a lemon, they said very unlikely, so I returned it.
