I did a lot of research on these before deciding on this fantastic machine. Trust me, you can look a long time and not find anything close to this value at this price point or even one much, much higher. Highly recommend for that finishing touch on your home theater.
Pros:
3 switches for power (1 kettle stirrer, 1 heating lamp/under carriage heating element and 1 for kettle heat). This will add a lot of life to your machine!
Large 8 ounce kettle pops plenty of corn for a family of 4 or use a smaller portion (or portion pack) for movie night with your spouse.
EASY assembly and very mobile. Essentially it comes in 4 pieces, the main unit, the cart and a couple of tires. It took longer to get rid of the boxes than to assemble it. We have actually wheeled this out in front of the house so my son can sell popcorn and lemonade, its that mobile.
Storage cabinet holds a lot of supplies
Cons:
A bit on the messy side. The side windows need to be wiped down every couple of uses but a paper towel usually does the trick.
Metal popcorn scoop handle came off after a few weeks, but its easily glued back on.
Makes my wife want to eat a lot of popcorn. Seriously....
From the time you decide to have popcorn to actually having the popcorn is less than 5 minutes. I recommend the popcorn packs but also look for other coconut oil packs for popcorn machines and "Flavacol" for that true theater taste. Everyone who sees the machine and has the popcorn wants one of there own!

This is a very good popcorn popper. I searched for a long time to get the right mix of ingredients to create "Theatre Tasting" popcorn. Here is what I found. I used ingredients from Grand Rapids Popcorn Company. They are local for me and they supply a lot of theaters. Here is the recipe they gave me and it is great.Use Popcorn oil. They have peanut and sunflower oils of which I couldn't tell a difference in taste and much healthier than coconut oil. I also use their Flavorcal salt. When you follow the recipe and method, it works out great. 1) Use 1/3 cup Oil. 2) 1 Cup Popcorn 3) 1 tsp Flavorcal. They call for 1 1/2 tsp (I use a little bit less because I find it can become too salty-you can adjust to your taste). Now, ignore the instructions on the pamphlet with the popper. It says to only use 1 Tbs of oil. This won't work. They also say to pour the oil in and let it heat up for 2-3 minutes. Not! The oil begins to burn and you can taste it in the finished product. Rather, turn on the heater element for the bowl and let it pre-heat for 4-5 minutes before putting anything in it. While it is heating, I use a 2-cup graduated measuring cup. I put 1/3 cup of oil, then add popcorn to reach the 1 Cup mark and put the salt on top. Pour it all in at once and turn the stirrer on. Voila! This makes the cost of an 8-ounce batch about $.25 as opposed to the pre-packets at $1.00+ each. Plus, the pre-packets tend to be hard to pour into the tub. I'm telling you, this is the way to go. It's not messy and so much cheaper. Of course, you can alter the amount for smaller batches. (1/4 Cup Oil, 3/4 Cup Popcorn, 1/2 tsp Flavorcal for a six ounce batch). Remember, these guys supply theaters, so I think they know what they're talking about. They do sell on-line or you could find a supplier in your area at least for the popcorn to avoid a high shipping cost. An 8-ounce batch is about 1 1/2 to 2 times a bag of microwave. Also, some reviewers talk about not making it fast enough. I'm sure that's true if you're making it for re-sale at an event, but for your home use, there's no problem keeping up with demand. 8 people cannot possibly eat enough, fast enough to have to wait. The unit will hold at least three batches. The heating element keeps it plenty warm that if you are having an evening of entertainment, it will keep it very fresh throughout the night. We leave it in overnight (without the heater on, of course) and it still is fresh and good the next day.

We purchased this as a family Christmas present this year. While we have only had it a few weeks, because we have 7 children ranging in age from 18 to 1, we have consumed quite a bit of popcorn in that time. I can tell you the ease of use on this machine is excellent. In 5 minutes, my children can make a large batch of outstanding popcorn. It gets used at least twice a day, is very durable and easy to clean, and works flawlessly. I will post another review after we have had it for a year, but as of right now, it is well worth the investment and enjoyed even more than I had imagined.I will also say that we purchased our machine through Amazon from Unbeatable Sales, Inc. On Christmas Eve, when we went to assemble the machine, we realized the wheel axel to the cart was missing. While we were disappointed, we certainly realize this sort of thing happens. What matters is that I sent one email back through Amazon to Unbeatable Sales, and within a week I had the missing part. We call that excellent customer service at our house!
Honest reviews on Great Northern Popcorn Red Roosevelt 8 Ounce Antique Popcorn
The popcorn machine works as advertised and makes great popcorn. Pretty easy to clean, feels pretty solid. The packing, however, left something to be desired. The heavier something is, the more likely it is to be damaged when shipped. On the front of the top piece right in the middle there was a pretty big gash/dent/crease. It's going to be rented out and would be too much of a pain to exchange, so at this point I don't really care. Also, the axle for the wheels was a little bent, causing it to wobble back and forth when you roll it.Other than that, its a good quality product.

I pretty much echo most of the reviews here, this machine is well built with fairly heavy steel and heavy tempered glass. The instructions are not the best but it only took about 40 minutes to put together. The storage area in the cart is nice and good sized, and while the machine is impressive, it really doesn't take up a whole lot of space. So far we have only used it with the Northern Popcorn Co that have the corn, seasoning and oil in pre-measured packs, and it is terrific, very movie-theater-ish! Overall we are very happy with this popper. If I had to list any negatives, the biggest would be the way the kettle is positioned and the difficulty in accessing it. But having looked at many similar-grade poppers before buying this on, they all look like they have the same problem... which is that the top lids to the kettle open to the sides, basically perpendicular to the the glass doors you open to get into the machine. So it's tricky to get that pouch of oil, then popcorn around to the side and then pour. It's especially tricky with the Northern Popcorn packs because the oil is a soft-solid and you need 2 hands to squeeze it out. Ultimately I ended up taking scissors and separating the oil, popcorn and seasoning to make it easier to maneuver. I mix the corn and salt together and dump it from a cup. I think if I was using bulk ingredients and adding them using the little measuring cups that come with the machine, it would be a lot easier. Not a biggie, learn as you go. The other so-so item is the scoop that comes with it. I haven't had a problem with it coming apart, it's just too big. Almost impossible to fill a bag inside the 'popcorn chamber' so you're forced to bring it outside and invariably spill the corn on the floor...again..not that big a deal, I'm going to get a smaller scoop and all will be fine. The take-away for this machine is that it is well built, very solid, nice thick steal and glass. It looks terrific and the popcorn tastes (and smells!!) just like lobby of your local movie house! I do recommend!Oh... one more thing!! I saw a couple of reviews where people say they only problem was it was shipped without an axle... I thought mine was as well... but it was there. Before you throw out any of the packing.. DO A THOROUGH SEARCH of the large Styrofoam pieces, the axle is tucked into a slot on the backside of one of those pieces and its all by itself, there are no other parts attached there... very easy to miss. I'd bet a paycheck that every one of those folks that had to get a replacement axle accidentally tossed it out with the box, I almost did!.
