I bought this foot warmer a few years ago though I can't remember where or what the price was, but $58 (as of January 2012) is expensive when you can buy Indus-Tool FWXXX Cozy Electric Foot Warming Pad for $36.40.
It does warm nicely after a few minutes, almost too warm.
The mat has a 5 1/2-foot cord but no switch, so I had to plug/unplug it each time I used it; the outlet is behind a desk and not easy to access. To overcome this inconvenience I bought a cheap switch that I plugged into a short extension cord which is plugged into the outlet, and the foot warmer plugs into the switch. Now I have the switch within reach. Still, I have to remember to turn it off.
This is from the WARNING tag attached to the cord:
Do not cover mat with anything. Covering can cause a possible overheating condition and damage to flooring below.
Do not use if damaged.
Not to be used as a heat pad for animals.
Unplug when not in use.
Made in China.

Purchased the Bird-X foot warmer with some apprehension after reading some of the other reviews. My warmer arrived in just four days....almost instantgratification. Plugged it in straight away. I did not have any problem whatsoever with the "new rubber smell". The unit takes about 10 minutes to heat
up fully....and it is heaven. We live in the mountains of Colorado so the temperature is often below zero. The unit can actually too hot after about a
half hour but that is perfect.... Luv That Foot Warmer!
Best Deals for Bird-X Electric Foot Warmer Mat
I found this in a free bin at a thrift store and the unit works so well at getting hot that it was melting the soles of my shoes! I am thinking of building a thermostat to or buying a dimmer switch to lower the maximum temperature that this thing can produce. I have found a lot of similar products that state the max temp to be 140 degrees F.Honest reviews on Bird-X Electric Foot Warmer Mat
If this mat had at least two temperatures (the current temp plus a lower one) and didn't smell, I'd give it 5 stars and bring it back to my office.I used this for two years in my office and it kept the entire underside of my desk warm. But I had to keep my shoes on (too hot for socked feet) and people often commented that my office smelled ... wrong. Running an air filter made the smell barely noticeable.
When I switched to a new fancy office, I switched to the Indus-Tool TT Toasty Toes Heated Footrest but it barely warms unless I have my shoes off and my feet right on the footrest.
I moved the Cozy Foot Warmer into the laundry room for the cats to sleep on where the smell wasn't noticeable but the mat was too hot for them.
I can't use a space heater in my office because it pulls too much electricity and is a fire hazard. Anyone got any other suggestions?

This foot warmer mat is pretty fantastic. Sure, there's room for improvement, but this thing has really helped me a lot, so it just wouldn't be fair to give it any less than 5 stars.>> Safe For Diabetics, But Use Caution
My lower legs and feet often get very cold, and I also have limited sensation, so I have to be careful with any space heaters or mats I use. The great thing about this foot warmer, is the heat is gentle without being utterly useless. It's amazing how much warmer my entire body feels just by placing my feet on this mat.
>>Not Hot To The Touch
I leave it on for hours at a time, and it never overheats or gets too hot to touch; which is vital for me given the limited sensation on my lower legs.
>> Great With Or Without Slippers
I often keep my feet inside my slippers and then just place my feet on top of this mat while reading, playing with my tablet or just sitting and watching TV. We have hardwood floors, so they can get pretty cold in the winter, even here in sunny California. I've tried cranking the heat up in the house, but that does little to help cold lower extremities; it would literally have to be as hot as a sauna in here to start warming my feet!! And space heaters usually blow air, and even though it's heated, the draft really doesn't feel nice if I'm already cold. But this warming mat just emanates gentle warmth without creating any drafts, and I can keep the house's thermostat at our regular temperature, yet still warm up my feet.
>> Illuminated Power Button
This warming mat has a power switch on the cord that lights up when the mat is on. I like this feature because there's no mistaking when this mat is on or off. I doubt it would ever get hot enough to cause any problems, but I still like having the visual clue of a lighted button.
>> NO RUBBER SMELL
I hate it when you buy something made of rubber, or even just has a few rubber parts on it, and the whole thing stinks of rubber the second you pull it out of the box!! And it sure can't be healthy to breathe that industrial stuff in either. Thankfully, this mat does NOT smell like that. It doesn't smell like anything, which is exactly as it should be.
>> Buy A Variable Power Switch & Gain Full Temp Control
If this mat has a downside, it's that there's no variable heat settings; it's either On or it's Off. That's fine for most people, but I really wanted to have some control over the heat settings. So I got this Foot Control Dimmer and it works like a charm! It's actually marketed as a lamp dimmer, but it will work with most anything; like osculating fans, lamps or even this foot warming mat!! Just plug the dimmer control into the wall, then plug this foot warming mat into the dimmer's socket, and voila -you have a fully adjustable temperature control; from zero 100! The lighted switch on the foot warmer pad even gets brighter and dimmer as I adjust the dimmer control; so there's also a visual cue as to the heat intensity of my foot warming mat. Perfect!!
Bottom Line I really love my foot warming mat and it's been a real lifesaver for me. Cold feet is just miserable, and now, I have nice and toasty tootsies. Future models of this mat should include a variable temperature control, but I'm still very happy with it and consider it a 5 star improvement in my life! Love it!!
