First off Don't let the reviews scare you! This is an all-around excellent heater! Mine ran a solid 10 hours per night every night last winter and is already more than earning its keep this season.
The back, sides, and top/bottom of the front stay very cool to the touch. The hardwood directly in front barely gets warm after running all night. Not that it's recommended, obviously, but to make a pointI would not be nervous going to bed with this heater sitting on carpet.
Several people mentioned the carry handle being inadequate, and now that I think of it, it probably is. However, in the event you need to reposition the unit, simply grab it by both sides it's very lightweight and easy to do. Honestly, the thought of using the carry handle for repositioning never crossed my mind until reading a review here. Also, though it's never happened to me, it is fair to say the unit would be fairly easy to knock over due to its weight, or lack thereof, and height. However, the unit does have an excellent tip sensor evidenced by it's immediate cut-off while repositioning.
All in all, this heater does exactly what it was designed to do keep you warm!
I would not hesitate to buy again. Hope this helps!

I bought this heater over a year ago for $60. Originally I used it out in the garage for my friends that smoke. Considering I have an old house, heating it with the gas furnace got very expensive, over $300 / month for a small house. I started using this heater in the house, if I keep it on high it will keep the entire house warm. I generally leave it in my room and leave my room door open so it will heat the house. I recently purchased a second one I seen on sale online for $30. I will place it in the living room so I can keep both on a medium setting. The downsides to this heater like some have mentioned before is that it does have a bright orange glow so at night this can be a little annoying. It can be uncomfortable to sit in front of due to the type of heat it emits, however it does not heat anything up to the point of being a fire hazard. Mine sits on thick shaggy style carpet. My dog even sleeps in front of the heater occasionally. The other downside to this heater is that it can be easy to tip over. I've never had an issue with this because I always place mine in a corner and face it towards the center of a room.
On another note I seen that someone had commented that this heater doesn't heat up the air well. I would disagree with this, although it may not heat up the air as fast as some fan models, this unit heats up the air evenly and quickly. Not to mention it cut my $300 gas bill to nothing (set my gas furnace to only kick on if temperature drops below 60). My electric bill only went up by about $40. So I gladly pay the $40 extra on my electric bill rather than the $300 to run a gas furnace.
