I bought this switch to time a low voltage system that turns on and off my gas fireplace. I can now turn on the fireplace and go to bed knowing it will time off. The switch was easy to program and install. So far it has worked flawlessly. I do not find the mechanical click it makes when going on and off, all that loud or offensive. I cannot comment on battery life yet. Would definitely buy again.

We loved this thing, until it stopped working. We are hoping for an easy exchange and that the next one lasts at least a year . We will keep you posted.Follow up. The second one lasted almost 6 months.
Better, but we were hoping for longer.

This is a BATTERY operated product although you could never figure this out from Intermatics irresponsibly incomplete product specifications. It requires a CR2 3Volt Lithium battery which you will have to replace after (in my case less than 1 year). The battery operates the loud mechanical relay in the switch so the more time the switch is ON the faster the battery will be depleted. I my area (Boston) this $5 battery is not a stocked item at either CVS or Radio Shack. The Intermatic product info leaves you with the impression that the battery might last up to 3 yrs but neglects to say this would be only if the switch was not actuated much. So if you your idea of a wall switch is something that needs at least yearly maintenance with a difficult to find expensive battery, then this is the product for you.As if this was not bad enough, the product turns on or off only after a 1 second delay and with a disconcertingly load relay click that sounds like you have just turned on industrial machinery. If the sound does not irritate your wife then the delay probably will.
Worst of all is when the battery runs out the switch does not operate and you can't turn on the lights until you replace it.
