I'm a tea drinker and I travel frequently. I always travel with my own tea and disposable cups so I only need to seek out hot water. Most hotels (and even Starbucks at the airports) will fill your cup with hot water for free (and to my surprise, some places will actually want to charge for hot water). My challenge is wanting hot water first thing in the morning or late at night in my hotel room without wanting to get dressed and seek it out, and NOT have to rely on the in-room coffee maker (who knows how or when those things are ever cleaned and what fluids have been run through them). My first stop when I travel is to pick up a case of bottled water ($4.00 per case or $6.00 for a single bottle in the hotel room no brainer), and this kettle is sized for a 16 oz bottle of water. It is small enough to put in your carry on, and light enough not to eat up that extra valuable pound for your checked luggage. I've traveled three times so far, used it about 25 times and it is just perfect. It boils the water quick, is maintenance free, and is easy to clean. What more could you ask for? I've seen this exact looking kettle for much more around the web. On my next trip, I will add some packs of instant oatmeal for those early morning calls (and who wants to pay twenty something dollars for a $6.00 breakfast delivered to your room). I love this product and will take this everywhere with me.

I read the review of this product and thought, this is just what I want, even though the other review was so negative. Well, it showed up in delivery yesterday and it is just what I was looking for.. it's a sturdy little pot and heats the water very quickly, and there is no plastic touching the waterstainless steel body. It has a "max" line to show where the pint marker is, but there is room for another cup or so in there. I think if you boiled it with the lid off, you would be okay, but it might not turn itself off, as it does when the lid is on and you stick to the "max" line. The cord is sturdy, and it is perfect for how I am going to use it,, in my little trailer, when I want a hot beverage and don't want to light up the propane stove. It would also be good for people who want boiling water, not just hot water like you get with a microwave. In a pinch, one could boil an egg or heat up soup in this, as long as you do so without the lid, and are careful cleaning out the pot without submerging the base in water. I hope it is as sturdy as it looks. Looks quality, feels quality,, I love it!Best Deals for Bonavita Bona Voyage 0.5-Liter Electric Travel Kettle
Hi, I was looking for a small kettle to make tea in my home. The size is perfect. Would be better if the base was detachable, but I can live with that.I have not decided if I'm going to keep it though. I did 3 "test" runs boiling water as per the instruction booket. I made sure to not fill above the "max" line. The water boils fine, but there is a strong plastic odor and taste I'm assuming from the steam condensing on the plastic cover.
No other reviewers have mentioned this issue. So either I have a defective product, or have greater sensitivity to plastic-tasting/smelling water.
I'll try some more test-runs with the cover off as other posters said the kettle works without the cover, but the auto shut-off is disabled. I can handle watching the kettle for 3 minutes. We'll see....
Update:
Did a few test runs without the cover and decided to keep the little unit. There are no other small electric Kettle options available (that are not plastic). Boiling the water with the lid removed gives the results I need hot water with no plastic taste or smell.
