I have owned this heater for at least 4 years now and I love it! The heater adjusts so you can blow the air toward your feet, your head, wherever you wish. I have taken this one camping with me and used it in the tent to make fall camping more comfortable. The size is nice and compact so it doesn't take much space.

I purchased one of these small TPI 178 TMC heaters a few years back and I was honestly never much impressed with it. While it was quiet, it hardly had any air or heat output even when run on max fan and max heating. However, I found a perfect application for it, and that was my above-ground well house. Since it is a small 8 ft x 10 ft well-insulated outbuilding, I actually couldn't have a larger output heater in it during the winter months without it putting too much heat out for the small space. Later, I installed a thermostatically-controlled small baseboard heater in my well house and the TPI heater didn't see a lot of regular use after that (as I had a number of other, better heaters).

Then, when I was recently using it, the black plastic swivel mount housing fractured in half, which completely separated the heater unit from its base, which rendered the heater non-operational. I wrote to TPI to see if I could purchase a replacement plastic swivel mount, but as I surmised before hand, they essentially had no parts for the heater as it was imported with no parts support. After some back and forth, I am pleased to report that TPI stood behind the heater (which was LONG out of warranty), and they shipped me a completely new heater at no charge (even for the shipping). I have to say that I was very impressed with TPI for doing this in an era where customer service can be rather poor and companies' standing behind their products has become something of the exception rather than the rule.

As a bonus, the new TPI 178 TMC heater put out far more heat and fan power than the old one ever did. Based on this, I can in fact recommend this little heater and especially TPI as a company.

I had this heater for several months under my desk now, and I love it. It is usually working on keeping my toes warm, but once its setting "fan only" saved my iPhone that was dropped into water (iPhone recovered after a day of drying and works fine). I don't keep it running all the time, but it heats up in a matter of seconds, so a couple of minutes is enough to get warm. I don't think I would like it on the entire day because I can still hear the fan even though it is not that loud as far as fan forced heaters go.

We purchased the Duraflame Portable Infrared Quartz Fireplace from Northern Tools, via Amazon. This is one of the best purchases ever; we love it! We live in Michigan and wanted something to warm our family room where we spend most of our time without turning up the main furnace. Duraflame is one of the top brands for safety and dependability. The unit is cool to the touch, and the flames are surprisingly realistic. The 1500 watts is more than adequate to heat our family room of 26 feet by 12 feet with a 9 foot ceiling. There is a low hum from the unit, but it isn't annoying. The Duraflame was purchased in late September 2012 and has been in use every morning and evening October through December (about 8 hours each day). Duraflame says their basic units will cost approximately $30 per month if used 8 hours per day. This unit has a programable temperature, so the unit will use less energy. Come warm weather, we'll wheel the unit into the spare room. We highly recommend Duraflame's Portable Infrared Quartz Fireplace thank you Amazon, and kudos to Northern Tools for their great service and incredibly fast shipping.

Works very well to make our 3 season room almost 4 seasons. We ordered ours in medium oak, however it arrived with a different wood. A call to the supplier and we were offered to receive the correct model or accept a rebate. I have been in business long enough to know that there will be occasional problems and this one was handled professionally.

On Thanksgiving I had the family over, and they we so impressed with this fireplace! They said it made them feel very cozy. My brother said he was going to see about getting one for his house. My mother said she wanted to get one also, so I bought her one for Christmas. I use mine all the time, and it is better then a real fire, because you just push a button and you get instance flames and a glowing fire.

Read some of the reviews and wasn't sure if this would work for us in our motor home for those nights that the furnace just doesn't seem to keep our "home" warm enough. It sure is a great addition to the look of our home, and heats it really well.

We are pleased with it and didn't not have any noise when it works other than what we expected.

heats my whole house to 70 degree's.My house is 1150 square feet.If i run it for 23 hours straight

on low it uses 1 bag of pellets.Only problem i have had with this stove is the auto starter burned

out 1 time, while still under warranty,There was no problem getting a new one, under warranty.easy to

deal with customer service. They did not question anything i said, sent me one in 3 days . I had

to install it my self ,but was real easy to do.and it did not void the rest of my warranty.

I have owned this stove (5510) for one year. It's installed in my living room, which is in the middle of my house. Last winter, it kept the bulk of my house 65-75, but we had to use space heaters in the bedrooms at night. Last year, we burned 3.5 tons of pellets, for a total operating cost of about $1000 (including space heaters), which is maybe a third of what I spent in past years on propane. General operation and cleaning is easy, but the original igniter went bad after a few months (replaced under warranty). Also, I recently noticed that the glass gasket in the door is in bad shape, so I called the company and they sent out a new one, also under warranty. Customer service has been excellent so far. I am very happy with my purchase.

If the stove would keep working it would be great but it keeps breaking. I bought the stove in August and by December the ignighter was bad. Us Stove did warranty the ignighter once. But now in the second season the ignighter is bad again and also the auger moter is bad. Of course now it's been over a year for the warranty. Since the heating season is about 6 months here in Michigan that is what time you get to operate the unit under the warranty. Us Stove directs you to use their web site for parts but their it says auger moter out of stock for a month. I would not buy a Us Stove again! Look else were for a different brand.

Great stove holds three bags of pellets. The stove has 9 settings, at -30 below zero the stove heated are house just fine. Great stove built well and looks like it will last a long time.

I've had this stove for 2 years now and absolutely regret buying it. I have had SEVERAL ignitors go out. The door and seal are sub-par and had to be replaced. I constantly battle with the settings. It commonly overflows the pot. It's a shame that an american company makes such a shoddy stove. I bought this thinking I could save a few bucks. Apparently with this item, that's not the case. Once it breaks one more time, it's getting pitched. Do a little research on hearth.com if you want to know more. Very few people have a positive thing to say about this brand.

This timer switch works fine except for one unexpected feature -once you have set it, there is no way to turn it off except by waiting for the timer to run down. I never imagined anyone would make a switch that could not be turned off at once when needed!

I guess there is a small chance I am mistaken, and simply haven't twisted it hard enough. But I did try to twist it off, pressing as hard as I thought I could without risking mechanical damage. There is no indication in the user instructions that it can be turned off.

I have learned to live with this limitation. But I don't see why anyone would want to buy such a switch.

I've been using this tower heater/fan since October and I've had a fairly good experience. It's basically the taller version of the "SPT SH-1508 Tower Ceramic Heater with Ionizer." The SH-1508 was too short for my tall bed and adding an extra foot to the height in the SH-1509 made is ideal. It heats up my mid size room pretty well.

When I first got this product it looked like it was in good condition (the box definitely wasn't though). But it seems that there's a little bit of blurred area on the front inside of the remote control signal receptor. But that area is a black background with a red light covered by the transparent plastic so I can't really tell the blurred plastic cover anymore unless I look closely.

The fan was very quiet when I first got it. I am a very light sleeper and even the smallest sounds can wake me up, and I slept through fine when the heater went off. However, about a couple weeks ago, I noticed that the fan, when especially oscillating, makes a vibrating noise. Pretty unfortunate since it makes the fan noisey now I might have to take it apart to see if anything came loose.

Besides those two things, I really have no complaints except the shape of the heater itself. It's not symmetrical as I expect most products to be. It's really not a big deal but it might bother the odd ones like myself.

PROS:

Tall

Multiple settings: High, Low, Fan (although very week) and Auto (I always use this setting heater is set to go off when the adjustable temperature is reached)

Quiet

Remote control this is one of the best features

Neat and clear blue screen

Space-efficient

CONS:

Wasn't in 100% prestine condition when I first got it.

Something came loose and now makes a vibrating noise only after 2 months of use.

Fan is weak I can't feel any cool air unless I'm directly in front of it.

Overall, I would recommend that other people who don't want a stubby heater like the SH-1508 should get the SH-1509. It's pretty much the same fan around the same price but taller. If it weren't for the vibrating noise that suddenly happened, I'd give it five stars.

Heater is great for the money. heats up quickly, fan is a little loud for the living room but overall great item. i would buy another one if i needed it.

Honest reviews on SPT SH-1509 Pedestal Ceramic Heater

This is a great little heater/fan. It puts out a lot of heat and only takes up a minimal amount of space. The remote control is an added convenience and I like the safety/shut-off feature when the heater is moved. The only negative is in trying to get the device to fan only; I wish this had been a separate button on the remote control as it is somewhat difficult to see/read from the distance that you would use the remote.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for SPT SH-1509 Pedestal Ceramic Heater

This was a great heater for the first year I used it. It heats quickly and the fan with oscillation distributes the heat well. I do feel the cons out weigh the pros. As some of the other reviews have stated when you change a setting on the heater it does make a rather loud beep sound, the heater fan is a little on the loud side in general, if you turn off the heat and just use this as a fan, it really does not move very much air, and lastly it only lasted for two winters which I feel is not very long for something in this price point. Currently it heats for about ten minutes and then the heater element and fan just stop working and I have to disconnect power for several hours and it will work for another ten minutes.

This item works well. However do not try to compare it to Electrical blankets you are used to using at home. It takes a while to heat up the mattress, and I have found it takes far too long for my mattress to cool back down after I turn it down, or off. The coldest I have used it so far is in 45 degree conditions, and I left it on a setting of one and used 1 fairly thick blanket over a very thin blanket, over the sheet. Mostly I use it to preheat the bed then turn it off, or to it's lowest setting.

I have it under a comforter under my bedsheet and cannot feel it, or the wires, or the safety pins you must use to pin it to the mattress. But there is no doubt it is on when you crawl into a toasty bed. Turn it on at least 30 minutes beforehand.

The claimed 4 amp draw and the 5 amp fuse must be applicable only to the single model. I have the twin and it draws 6.2 amps. It cycles on and off frequently but silently, and the temperature dial is also the thermostat, so keeping it outside the covers will allow it to run more often( warm the mattress more) than if is is under the covers.

The dial is numbered 1 through 7. It actually turns on at well below one on the dial. The Ciggy plug is one of the best designs out there. It fits snugly and does not warm up significantly. My Laptop can draw similar amperage through a ciggy plug, and it has partially melted the supplied ciggy plug.

In my experience it will use a minimum of 1.5 amp hours per hour on the lowest setting. Keep in mind that alternator does okay at replenishing a battery that is below 80%, but will take forever to bring it from 80% to 100%. Using this product night after night without adequate driving or other charging source in between will abuse your battery, and eventually leave you needing a jumpstart, and after a few jumpstarts, a new battery. Do not believe that your 140 amp HD alternator can replenish a battery in under an hour. Batteries cannot accept those currents for very long(under a minute), if at all, and the OEM wiring cannot transmit it even if the alternator could produce it in the engine compartment, rather than a Laboratory

Also a Marine/ dual purpose battery should be used as opposed to a starting battery. Starting batteries cannot handle deeper discharges and will self destruct prematurely. True Deep Cycle batteries are best for powering this heating pad, but 12 volt true deep cycle batteries are not that easy to find, and about 30% more expensive than regular starting or Marine batteries.

We spend 6 months of the year on our boat. Getting into bed at night we noticed that the bedding was more humid than we liked, not damp, just more moisture than we like. We also had occasional mildew on the walls. Somewhat skeptically, I ordered the heated mattress pad to try it out and since it did plug into 12v.

Wow! What a difference getting into bed at night. The bunk is nice and comfy and all traces of moisture in the bedding is gone and as a plus, we have not seen the reappearance of mildew on the walls. So far we haven't seen the need to leave it on all night but we could with the modest current draw. This is one great product to have on a boat! It's my wife's favorite addition over the last 12 months.

Honest reviews on Twin, Heated Mattress Pad by Electrowarmth, Non-Fitted, Size 36 x

The mattress pad was bought as gift for someone sick and when finally opened to use, it wasn't new but old and stained and ugly. Because a gift, the 30d return passed, and when vendor was notified, they asked for it to be returned, which I did promptly. After receiving the return she said it had been too long and a refund or exchange could not be honored. So I bought a gift that was embarrassingly used and stained when opened, then paid for the return to vendor and lost not only the original purchase cost but the return shipping too. So, was it sent out used to someone else? Bad experience all around. Worst response ever had with internet order.

Two days after I received this stove, it started to malfunction. Since I'm not at all interested in burning my house down, the stove has been sitting in a corner since January 18th, while I've been trying in vain to contact the manufacturer. I've tried email, phone calls, their useless customer service portal and even their facebook page. Based on comments on facebook, I am far from the only person who is dealing with faulty products and a complete lack of customer service. The seller did respond to my email immediately and contacted the manufacturer on my behalf, but I still have had no resolution to this problem.

Update 02/20/2012: I want to note that that seller, Electric Fireplaces Direct, took care of my problem by providing a replacement stove that arrived today. I appreciate this, since this was a manufacturer's warranty issue and not a problem with the seller or shipper. I never did receive any contact from the manufacturer and will make a point of not purchasing any products from that company in the future.

Update 03/28/2012: The second stove stopped working. The "flames" work, the heat does not. This stove is in a home office and is only plugged in and turned on for an hour or so in the morning (and not every morning) to take the chill off, so it's not as if it's been used and abused. After the hassle of trying to warranty the first one, I don't know if it's even worth trying to warranty this piece of junk. For anyone wondering about the cost of using this heater to heat a room, my experience is that, excluding electricity, it costs about $120 a month plus a heater to dispose of. I'm not happy.

I purchased this for Christmas and it shipped fast and damage free! It looks nice for a small electric heater although it heats only the size of a average bedroom nice on HIGH non stop. My power bill tripled after running it for a month so now it sits completely shut off. Keep in mind if you purchased this that it's expensive to use for heat.

Honest reviews on Duraflame DFS-550CRN Freestanding Electric Stove with Remote Control

I chose this heater because it is Duraflame but very disappointed in the quality of the product. It looks great, has remote to turn it on and off, control the flame presentation and does put out good heat. But, it has a very annoying fan whir, much louder than our old stove of another brand. Also, when I turned it on, white light flashes were visible coming out the back of the stove in several places. I am still considering returning it. I could not recommend to friends.

This is my fourth Duraflame electric stove type heater. It is very cute in my kitchen. Great for a small space. Love the color! It has a glossy finish to it. It heats well. The fan is on the loud side. It sounds a bit like a hairdryer or the range fan. I have similar heaters in every room. I never run them non-stop. I only use them as needed so I haven't seen a big jump in the electric bill. I have been using these space heaters for two years now, and I think they are great for supplemental heating.

I was excited about this fan because of the oscillating factor and the 3 speeds. Most only have two speeds. I like "instant" heat. If I'm cold, I want to get warm fast. Sitting directly in front of this fan I didn't feel that I was getting warm. It produces heat, just not where I wanted it. I felt like the warm air came out like a cone, only on the outside of the cone, not the center. If I stood two feet away from it, I couldn't feel the air/heat on me. It's just not what I wanted.

Received a brand new hearter today! No cost for shipping either to or from the company. Based on the excellent customer service I am increasing the rating up to 4 stars. As I originally reported, the heater works very well at heating my garage.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Updated 3/5/11

Contacted Mr. Heater and they had me box up the heater and they had FedEx pick it up at their expense. They say they will send a replacement once they have looked at the returned item.

Updated 2/26/11

I had been very pleased with this heater UNTIL today. I have used the heater several times during the past 2 months. Today I warmed up the garage and worked during the morning then shut down the heater and ran some errands. I started the heater this afternoon and after about about 10 minutes I looked over at the heater and there were FLAMES coming out from all sides and the main burner valve knob was on fire. I ran to the propane tank and got everything shut down Thank goodness I was watching, the rubber propane hose could have easily melted and I would have had a wreck. It appears there was a malfunction on the burner valve that allowed gas to escape and ignite. Now 1 month past Amazon Return time I have to deal with manufacturer warranty. So now I have to mail it in, at my expense, and wait to see if they will stand behind the product. In the mean time I have no heat in the garage.

__________________________________________________________________________________________

I have only had this heater two days. That said, I took it home yesterday attached the propane (that was essentially all there was to set-up) and fired it up on low and it put out a pleasant heat.

This morning the temperature was about 6 below zero and I turned the heater on and set it on high. I let it run for about 15 minutes and the garage had warmed up significantly, it was at least 40-50 degrees and possibly warmer. I didn't check the thermometer (digital one in my car) until after I left the garage. But as I was driving my car away from the garage I noticed the temperature was rapidly counting down at that point it was already down to 20 degrees and continued down to the outside temperature of 6 below.

My garage is detached 30' X 30' with 14' high ceiling, so it was heating over 12,000 cubic feet.

This is a replacement space heater. The previous one was a Mr. Heater Portable Propane Forced Air Heater (jet heater). I was a bit worried with the fact that the new one was convection but that concern was unfounded. It actually heats the area much faster. The convection heater does not seem to put off nearly as much smell as the forced air heater, in fact it was essentially odorless. Although with this first test I did not use a fan to circulate the warm air, I am sure that will improve it's already impressive performance. Unlike the forced air heater, this one does not require an electrical connection to operate so all you have to do is supply the gas and turn it on. One possible drawback would be that I was able to use the forced air heater to thaw frozen pipes since you can direct the heat, and the convection heater won't work for that.

It does make noise as it burns the propane. If you have a weed burner, or a branding stove, that is what it sounds like. The volume increases at higher settings. It was a little quieter than the forced air heater though.

Honest reviews on Mr. Heater MH200CV 200,000-BTU Propane Convection Heater

Ordered through smazon Mr. Heater MH200CV December 13, 2011. Unit was shipped and received timely. Did not have need to install unit until February as the weather here in North Georgia is quite mild this year. I hooked the unit to a 100 lb. propane tank and tried to light the pilot after observing all fittings were tight and the heat control knob was properly positioned. Upon depressing the pilon/safety button, I heard a loud hissing sound indicating that propane was flowing through the lines unobstructed. Immediately I depressed the igniter button several times attempting to light the pilot light...no luck. I discontinued the effort to light the pilot. I tried this several more times to no avail. Finally, I remedied the excessive propane through-put by barely depressing the pilot button...presto, the pilot light with a monstrous flame. In addition the burner was ablaze also without the the burner knob still in the pilot position (fully clockwise). Upon releasing the pilot button the flames were completely out of control. The thing acted as if the burner valve was fully open although it was completely closed. The heater would do this wild activity for a few minutes then it would flame out at which time I would make hasty tracks to shut the gas supply off.

NOTE: The gas flow is so great that the pilot cannot be lit if the button is fully depressed. I could light it only when the valve was partially opened.

This thing is dangerous. I will be in contact with the manufacturer on Monday next. I'm hoping for the best as some other customers with similar problems have had difficulty getting their problems fixed through the manufacturer.

I checked all settings several times and tried to get the unit to operate normally--no luck.

It served its purpose. But for some reason or another, it stopped working. We were building a house and we needed a heater that could give sufficient heat in an under construction building. It did that, but it didn't hold up well. The construction heater got a leak in the on / off valve.

My garage has insulated and finished walls, but several windows and drafty garage doors (that's my next project!), so it's not particularly easy to heat. Running for about 15 minutes per hour, this heater warms my garage by about 30 degrees which is fine for my needs. It's also possible to run just the fan, giving me some much needed air circulation, even when the temperatures aren't cold.

Construction quality is about average for this type of unit. It's somewhat plain and industrial looking, but after all, it is intended for a garage. The controls are simple an on/off switch for the fan, and then a basic thermostat to regulate the temperature. If you like, you can wire it into a remote thermostat instead of using the built in temperature regulator. It can be tilted within a limited range, but the mounting isn't really all that flexible...I might have preferred one on some sort of swiveling mount so as to be able to direct the heat where I want it.

Still, it more than meets my needs. When it clicks on, it is indeed very warm in the vicinity of the heater, and in just a few minutes, my entire garage warms up. Temperatures tend to vary quite a bit with distance from the fan...in fairness, two smaller (5KW) units would have probably heated my garage more evenly, but I didn't want to give up that much ceiling space.

I didn't have the required 40A circuit nearby, so I paid a professional electrician about $300 to run the line and install the heater. The installation went smoothly and there were no issues getting it running.

I'm tempted to keep the thermostat set to about 50 degrees and to let it run continuously, although I'm afraid of the electricity cost. In my area, electricity is about 12 cents per KWH, so if the heater runs 15 minutes per hour, it can be as much as $6 per day to operate this heater. Where I live, that would probably only be an issue during the very coldest days...otherwise, I think the average cost will be more like $1 or $2 per day. Still, it's worth giving some thought to what the cost might be if you're on a tight budget, and of course, you can always simply shut it off, put it on some type of timer or spend a little more time insulating your garage.

Above my garage is living space, and until now, it's always been cold and chilly. Heating the garage has had the benefit of helping keep the room above notably warmer. I can hear it running from inside the house, which is about my only complaint. Otherwise, it's a fine unit for the price.

Definitely recommended.

The item as described does not translate to the actual use and application for heating an area or space in proximity to the unit. With the inspection of the actual unit, it was quickly determined that the items contains very serious design flaws, thus rendering the heater defective. The unit is aesthetically very nice. However, the heater contains only 1 vent, located at the top of the unit. There are no vents on the side or bottom, which prevents actual heating of the area surrounding the wall space. Upon installation, the heat eminates to the ceiling (burning the area above the vent), and not outward. This is the primary defect! The heat does not project outward to the space near the unit, rather the ceiling above. This unit is ineffective for heating a space, and only serves as picturesque for a wall space. Additionally, this seller (Shadow Ridge Trading Company), should be removed from Amazon's list of approved vendors. The representative of this company is very rude, unprofessional, and very inappropriate. Moreover, the representative for this company, challenged my assertion that the unit is defective, and threatened to withhold my refund. This was insulting! I have never experienced this level of challenge with all my purchases through Amazon, regardless if Amazon was the "direct" seller or not. The unit as advertised does not correspond in any way to the actual use of the heater. Thank you for the opportunity to provide this feedback.

I did what one blogger said about the use of this product. I sealed my fireplace that was taking a lot of place in my living room. I make sure of a very good insolation from the heat, the cold and the noise from upstair neighbors. II had it all of it completely covered with dry wall, painted like the rest of it and now I have some heat when I want it. This is not very strong but it will do for the Florida weather. So far it work like a chrm and I am very please with it. And it look nice on my wall . Thank you Amazon for having such fine product.

I was expecting this machine to cook rice very well based on previously owning a neuro fuzzy logic rice cooker made by zojirushi, which I've worn out after many years of use. I'm very happy with the new induction heating style of cooking. It cooks brown rice better.

Pro's

--Exceptional rice results, almost foolproof.

--Multiple menu settings account for most types of rice, including GABA brown (which is supposed to make brown rice even healthier)

--Easy to operate. Select menu setting, add cups of rice to bowl (rinse the rice), fill to applicable mark in bowl, and hit cook button.

--Battery backup. A lithium battery means the cooker will remember its last settings even if you unplug it. If you're a creature of habit, this feature makes it even easier to operate.

--Clock timer with 2 time settings you can set based on the clock's time. Like previously stated, the cooker remembers the timer settings until you change them. I leave my cooker set to have rice ready at 6:30a.m. (to pack for lunch at work) or 5:30p.m (dinner).

Con's

--Water level markings in pan are based on the 6.2 oz cup provided (~3/4 cup). Don't lose the cup!

--Expensive (my justification is it saves me $5 every time I pack rice for lunch instead of eating in the cafeteria)

--Takes longer to cook rice than the equivalent stove method (baking or stovetop)

--Timer is military time only (so when I said the timer was set to 5:30p.m., it's actually 17:30)

In summary, buy this machine if you want to use the timer function. If you're the type of person who only remembers things at the last minute or don't like to plan meals ahead, keep your money and get a pressure cooker or a good pot instead.

It fits my needs perfectly, so I give it 5 stars. I also recommend a Zojirushi lunch jar system if you want to use this to make rice for lunch at work. A lunch jar will keep the rice warm and moist, so you don't have to microwave it.

The cooker has done excellently. All of the rice types have been great. I'm using it for other grains. After some experimenting, here are my methods so far:

Steel-cut oats for breakfast: add 1/2 cup oats to bowl; wash a few times until the water is mostly clear; add water to slightly above 1 brown rice mark; press timer button; select porridge setting. Great oats are ready in the morning. Adjust the water addition to your personal preference. I add spices, fruit and ground flax later so I need it wet enough. Some residue gets on the top plate and into the steam vent. I set the top plate in water while eating to make it easier to clean.

Quinoa + oats: add 1/2 cup of each into bowl; wash a few times to get mostly clear water; add water to 1 white rice mark; cook as regular white. We enjoy this grain mixture at meals. It saves well in the refrigerator. Saute some onions, etc and add the grain at the end to heat it.

Hulled Barley: cook as brown rice. I like it with slightly extra water. I cook 1 cup barley at slightly above the 1 brown rice water mark.

Amaranth: I've haven't tried it enough to make a recommendation as yet. The regular white rice setting overcooked it.

Best Deals for Zojirushi NP-HBC10 5-1/2-Cup (Uncooked) Rice Cooker and Warmer

The rice cooker is best in class ie five stars.

The only negative thing about this rice cooker is that it last about 1 year before it fails. I have just recently had my second rice cooker fail and this time it lasted about 1.1 years similar to the first rice cooker. After contacting Zojirushi they gave me a repair place for the rice cooker. I have already purchased my 3rd zojirushi rice cooker and the repair for the second one will cost $136 dollars.

The nice thing is that you can get it repaired and the customer service was really nice on the phone.

Both failures caused the digital display to lock up.

Honest reviews on Zojirushi NP-HBC10 5-1/2-Cup (Uncooked) Rice Cooker and Warmer

This is the second NP-HBC10 induction heating rice cooker I have owned, the first having been given to my son in a moment of weakness. As there are a great many reviews already, I'll just sum up the pros and cons as I see them.

PROS

The rice cooker is attractively styled and easy to use. As other reviewers have noted, be sure to remove and wash the inner lid after each use. This takes only seconds.

The control panel is clear and the interface is intuitive. While one should always read the manual one can operate the cooker without reading a single page.

Build quality, workmanship, fit, and finish are excellent, as they should be for the price.

The extended keep-warm function is incredibly effective. I have often held rice overnight and found it warm, moist, and not crusty the following day.

Cleanup is easy as the machine lacks many of the nook-and-cranny rice catchers of some other brands.

Brown rice is cooked to perfection every time. I don't often bother with the GABA cycle but for people who believe that it makes a difference, it is there to use.

The congee cycle (porridge, they call it) works well and not just for that purpose. You can keep soup hot, etc. I notice that the manual advises against this but I have done it many times.

Replacement parts can be ordered through the internet, if needed. The greatest risk I see is dropping and denting the cooking vessel. In a conventional unit, this might not make much difference but with induction the difference can be huge.

It works well for steaming, despite the concerns of those who opine that fuzzy logic cookers will not do so. You will, however, need to provide your own basket.

If you follow the recipes closely, the rice will always come out properly cooked and never crusted on the bottom. I've not had a single failure and I cook and eat lots of rice.

The cooker has amazing versatility. Steel cut oats for breakfast...yummmmm

Overall, it reeks of quality. That may be of greater importance to some than to others.

CONS

The stainless finish is an extra cost and essentially the same model can obtained in white for a bit less. Zojirushi NP-KAC10 5-1/2-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer with Induction Heating System

Induction heating consumes a bit more energy than conventional heating. Not a lot, but some.

The cost is high. A conventionally heated unit that works almost, but not quite, as well can be had much cheaper. Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 5-1/2-Cup Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker and Warmer, Premium White

Retractable cord would have been nice. Mine stays plugged in all the time because I use it so often but others might find the cord a bit of a nuisance.

OVERALL

Highly recommended. This is the best non-pressure rice cooker on the market, hands down. The sweet taste of perfectly prepared rice dishes will last long after the bitterness of the price has faded. If you want a pressure rice cooker, Zoji has those, too, but the price is even steeper. Zojirushi NP-HTC Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker & Warmer Color: Stainless Brown, 5.5 cups / 1.0 liter

Reliable, easy to clean, and nicely sized for 2 4 people. We've done everything from rice to buckwheat to millet to the best oatmeal I've ever had in my life. The induction cooker really does make a difference and we get wonderfully evenly cooked rice. And the timer function is a lifesaver, especially in the morning.

The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish there were cool-touch handles on the bowls, but the rice is easy to extract and this is a minor complaint. Also, one reason we got this instead of a cheaper Zoji was because of the GABA rice capability, but if you want to save the $$ there are directions on how to make GABA rice just by soaking the rice ahead of time.

Do buy it with the Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook if you're planning to do anything more than rice in addition to recipes, the book is great for giving water-to-grain ratios for just about any grain or legume.

This product is just what I was looking for and more. The speaker is very clear and high quality. The light changing is very nice in a dimmly lit room. The aromatherapy diffuser heats up fast and produces the scent in the room. I use this product in a medium size room. I know that the diffuser would not have a strong affect in a large room. Unless you would have more than one diffuser. I highly rate this product. I am very happy with this product. I am looking to purchase another.

This item is great! Looking at the features, it has a speaker you can connect with your ipod while the light changes etc. It's good for a bedroom or an office but it won't do the job for a big space. You're better off buying the ceramic oil diffusers that uses the tealights. I have a couple of those at home.

I use my rosemary essential oil with this diffuser and my room smells heavenly. It helps alleviate sinus congestion and put me to sleep. It is so relaxing. This diffuser by far is IMHO efficient and budget friendly. It has a two hour timer that automatically shuts off to prevent accidents etc. The mood light can still work as an aesthetic therapy. It's great when used at night. I've looked for other diffusers on Amazon.com but so far this one has met my expectations and my budget. Very nice buy.
