Review of Stanley High-Velocity Blower Fan, 655702

I purchased this unit to replace an ailing Patton 20" blade fan which is used to exhaust stale air from the basement. Given its size, I was skeptical about the Stanley's ability to move enough air to at least match the Patton's performance. Suffice it to say, the Stanley blows significantly more air than the Patton and is much quieter than the jet engine roar of the Patton. Being able to direct the Stanley airstream right out the window is a major plus.

At the same time, I also purchased a Lasko 4900 to satisfy comparative curiosity more than anything. Well, the Lasko puts the Stanley to operational shame. Being slightly larger than the Stanley and with much larger air intake grills, the Lasko moves significantly more air, is quieter and appears to have superior build quality. The $10 premium for the Lasko is well worth the additional investment. So much so that I purchased another Lasko to circulate the air in our family room. I found by "bouncing" the airstream off the ceiling, I could noticeably improve the A/C performance in this western exposure, 600 square foot space. And for those concerned, operating on speed 3, the Lasko is quiet enough not to interfere with one's ability to hear the TV.

All considered, I would recommend the Lasko 4900 over the Stanley 655702

Every once in a while a product comes out and I am simply amazed at how useful it is. I used this fan recently and I can say that this is a great design that is well constructed. Though using this as a room fan works fine (there are three speed settings that allow you to adjust the airflow the highest speed moves A LOT of air), what makes this fan truly shine is its directional capabilities. The stream of air being pushed by this fan is pretty narrow (focusing the air movement just where you want it) and the up/down swiveling nature of the base means that this thing can be pointed at the exact spot where air is needed (like a wet spot on the carpeting, or your back as you stand at your workbench on a steamy summer evening). The grounded outlets are simply icing on the cake.

I have seen this fan for significantly less at other stores (Menard's), so shop around. Otherwise, I recommend this as a well designed, quality product!

I bought one of these fans to replace a standard 10 inch personal fan to use at work that just wasn't keeping up. I am an electronics technician, and use it to both stay cool, and to keep the air where I am working clear of dust and fumes.

I am impressed with the quality of this product. Sure it's plastic, but it still feels like a solid product. I have been using it steadily for almost 7 months now.

Something to note, it fits in a standard upright locker. I store it in mine at work ever day. I actually hang it by its handle on the coat hooks in the top-back of the locker, leaving room for my tool box in the bottom of my locker. though this might not work for you if your locker has junk hooks as this fan weighs in at more than 8 lbs. Mine has stood up to this sort of use well. It still has minimal scratches and dings on it.

As for use, it has a good design. The blower drum is divided, so half the air is drawn in under the control and outlets and across the motor housing, and the other half through a large intake on the opposite side of the unit. This means I have no worries about the fan overheating even in warm weather. It does however mean you should pay attention to whether or not this fan will be drawing in bad things along with surrounding air. The wiring inside does appear to have been sealed, but I doubt I would trust it against anything more than minimal damp or high humidity. The motor however appears to be a high quality unit. It has a metal casing, and appears fully sealed. Due to everything but the motor being plastic, I have to take extra care not to introduce it to my soldering equipment of course, but that's not been a major problem.

At work, when it's too cool to use the fan directly, I actually use it as a fume extractor, and it's far better than the fans design for that purpose. It can draw the fumes away more effectively, and from a greater distance then the one my company provided to my bench. I just make sure I use the side opposite the controls so the dust and fumes are not drawn into the side with the motor. I have had to dust out that side of the fan more often as a result of course, but compressed air works well. I have also used it indirectly, pointing the fan at something, like the underside of a shelf, and having a much gentler stream of air as a result.

The outlets on the side are useful. They are 10 amp rated, and I have used the fan as a short extension cord. The fan has a 10 foot cord, so while the outlets might not be terribly useful to everyone that buys this fan, they are useful if you need that extra outlet.

I would not however really recommend this thing for bedrooms and such. While it is not loud like a box fan or the other types that do the same job as this fan, you can definitely tell when it's on. That being said however, its only a bit louder than normal fans at its lowest setting. Its extremely quiet for its size and what its accomplishing. Its a very good alternative to the old fashioned box fan, and probably more useful too.

I still have my fan and I love it, its some of the best money I have ever spent.

It has held up extremely well. It only has routine scratches and such. It feels as solid as the day I got it and the only consideration I have ever given it is the understanding that it IS plastic.

Its only real shortcoming is that you cant run it at very low speeds, meaning that if you only need a little, you either have to move it far away, or use it indirectly by pointing it to hit something else first in order to lessen the breeze from it. so you should only get it for medium or larger needs, but with some creativity, you can use it for those smaller applications as they come up.

The only maintenance it has needed was the occasional use of compressed air to clean it. Because of its design, that's a lot more involved process than for a normal fan, but easy if you have access to either compressed air or a can of computer duster. If you don't want to disassemble the entire fan, you have to use mainly reverse airflow to knock dust and dirt free, and either vacuum the stuff from the intakes, or run the fan to blow the dust/dirt out, or some combination of both.

The outlets on the side have been very useful the couple of times that I have needed them too, but if you don't use them often, check them before use, there is enough airflow in through them that some dust will accumulate in them.

This is an awesome blower. I originally picked it up to air out my apartment after the annoying neighbors under my apartment filled my unit with disgusting cigarette smoke. It did a great job shooting the smokey air right out the window. Its high-power, directional fan makes it great for a variety of uses.

I was particularly impressed by its quiet operation. Even on its highest setting, I was able to run it through the night and sleep in the same room with it. It's not quite as quiet as a conventional fan, but this isn't, after all, a conventional fan. Speaking of which, I'm sure you'll find many uses for it (e.g. airing out a room where you're painting, drying carpet, zapping the burned microwave popcorn smell), but if you want something to blow a gentle breeze around a room, go with something standard. I wouldn't recommend it for cooling yourself as with a regular fan it's really better at exhaust and circulating fresh air. I suppose you could use it as a fan if you're stuck under the sink repairing the plumbing (as is the case with the guy pictured on the box), but that's really not what it's best at.

The unit itself is very sturdy. One of the previous reviewers claims the construction is cheap, but this was not my experience at all. He may have a defective unit. Mine has taken a fair amount of abuse without flinching. I've had it running 12+ hours without even getting warm. The power cord is equally substantial. Ten feet is a good length and the cable is heavy-duty. The extra outlets are a welcome bonus Stanley (or Lasko) went above and beyond.

With so many possible uses, this is a great fan to pick up. If you already have a use for something like this, look no further this is your best bet. Highly recommended.

I am on my 3rd one of these fans...not because they break, but because people keep borrowing them from me and not wanting to return them because it is such a great little fan. I have been using it for almost 4 years now and would never purchase a different one. It is perfect for just about every job needing a fan. We use ours primarily in the bedroom at night when sleeping because it is the only fan we have found within this price range that can move air across our giant bedroom...plus it also makes a wonderful & even humming noise that is perfect to sleep to (much like a white-noise maker).

I like to clean our own carpets monthly and this little fan works wonders at drying the carpet within minutes (yes, minutes vs. hours like other fans). You could go buy one of those fancy, huge, professional carpet drying fans and spend approx $200 and get the same results with this much less expensive fan.

I don't use the 2 outlets on the side of the fan, but I imagine they could come in handy for some folks. The power cord on this thing is quite robust, which is a good thing if you were to plug in power tools. The cord is of a decent length, too. One of my favorite things about this fan is the rubber feet is has mounted on the bottom to keep it from scooting around. It's electrical areas are mouted a few inches off of the ground so I don't worry when placing it on wet carpet or tile.

Now, this fan has a very narrow direct route of air-flow and really doesn't do a good job of moving air across a wide area, you have to gradually move it if you wish to dry a wide area. This doesn't bother me because I wasn't looking for that in a fan. One other negative to is is the plastic housing...it shouldn't be dropped. I have dropped mine a few times on mostly carpeted floors and I can see where the seam in the middle is spreading (not breaking, just spreading apart). This hasn't affected it in anyway, but worth noting that it is not so durable if dropped. Only other thing worth mentioning, is the fact that it should be cleaned often if exposed to a lot of dust because it can get trapped inside & cause the fan to make a very annoying whistling noise.

I am amazed at how efficiently this heater operates. We have it placed in our living room and run it on the low 400 watt setting for about an hour or two in the evening when the temps drop below 40 and it does a better job than our 1500 watt electric baseboard heater does running double that time. In terms of heat output, this is a great appliance. I live in California where central heating is not normal, but where it still gets cold in the evenings, especially during the winter months. I picked this heater up at a Black Friday special and I wasn't expecting a lot from it, but was pleasantly surprised. Even on the low heat setting, its output is sufficient to keep my room toasty. Now, for the caution, and reason for a two-star rating:

The safety switch on the bottom is flaky, at best; sometimes it works, but more often it sticks and won't shut off the heater. One night, a pillow fell from my bed and landed on the heater, leaving the heater partially tilted (and in such a position that it would have shut off had the safety switch been working properly). My pillow burned on a slow smolder, filling my entire bedroom with a very thick, very dangerous black smoke that would have killed me if the alarm hadn't gone off when it did. Also, it burned long enough that the plastic frame holding in the metal grate on the heater's front has partially melted.

So, if you're going to use this heater, do not leave it running while you're sleeping or otherwise not attending it. Make sure it has a HUGE clearance on all sides. And definitely, do NOT expect that the safety switch will work.

I purchased this heater for a medium size bedroom. It works great on the high setting and heats the room up very fast. Once the room heats up the low setting maintains the warmth. I love the oscillating feature because it distributes the heat more evenly. The heat replicates the sun rays and is good for me because I suffer from seasonal affective disorder. Living in the northern states during the winter with the lack of sun is depressing but this heater makes me feel like I basking in the sun. I have noticed that my two cats love the sun-like warmth of the heater. They like to sleep and groom near it. Again a good heater for the price. I have purchased higher priced heaters and was not as pleased as I am with this one.

Heater is very lightweight, as in thin plastic.

I use an under-desk heater year round, and this has saved me quite a bit in electricity bills. The low and high settings make it usable for under-desk, although it is pretty overkill.

Unit is about 2.5 feet tall, so keep that in mind.

On high with oscillation, it can easily heat a very large room.

Have owned it for 5 months now with no issues.

I've used it for two winter seasons in a 20 x 20 room over the garage to supplement the faint wisp of air that comes from the main house HVAC system. The room use to be a constant 55-60 degrees. The Lasko is set from November until April on 70 degrees. It has worked very well with no flaws as of yet.

It's another piece of junk made in China, now destined for a U.S. landfill.

This stove does a good job heating once the heavy cast heats up. It will take a 25" piece though they need to be a little on the slender side or just one large chunk. It heated up my 1000 square foot shop nicely. Put a fan behind it and it could do more. I would give it a higher rating but the price listed is considerably higher than what I paid 2 1/2 years ago. What is really expensive is the insulated pipe you will need to buy.

Bought this stove almost a year ago. We use it to heat our upstairs almost 1300 sq ft. This thing is a heat making machine. The only bad thing I can say is you only get a 4-5 hour burn when loaded and dampered down. Other than that it is a great stove for the money. If you are use to a pellet stove or high end wood burner you might find this stove to be to much work, but for me that is part of the enjoyment of heating with wood. I have read reviews complaining about smoke I think this is more operator error than the stoves fault. Please have your chimney as straight as possible any bends makes it harder to achieve a good draft. As well make sure you are using well seasoned hardwood to burn.

I just received it today and noticed they left out the grate. It does not come with it. So better order it also if you want. I look forward to lighting it up. 10/15/08 have it all put together now and there are no defects of any kind as of now. Putting together the required venting maybe tricky since I have not a one Ace Hardware, or a Lowe's, or Home Depot that has the necessary parts to complete the installation I will need to go on-line to find that. I will fill you in as I go. But I Love the looks of this stove in my home, COOL.

I recently purchased the Vogelzaang model bx26e.

I have to comment that having only used this stove twice I can safely safe this is the biggest piece of junk I have ever purchased.

The engineer must have been thinking this was for display only and not for burning anything. Some of the upper seams leak smoke. The fire door does not sit tightly against the frame and you can see flame on the other side. The damper collar almost sits outside of its recessed place and therefore leaks smoke the most.

Made in china

This stove will kill someone.

If you're willing to put the time in to study how this stove behaves you will discover that this is a great stove for the money. Remember it is not airtight and was not designed to be. So it can overfire pretty easily. But once you find the right amount to load into the stove and adjust the drafts properly, you will get a lot of good heat and save a TON of money (if you don't spend too much on the wood.) If you're getting smoke into your house it's because you don't have the proper chimney draft. You MUST heat the chimney first BEFORE you start burning the wood. The company has invested heavily in product R & D and has come up with some pretty innovative and interesting products. Dimplex North America Limited is a member of the Glen Dimplex Group of companies of Dublin, Ireland and employs over 8,500 people worldwide with sales in excess of $3.0 billion.

The fireplace insert distributes an even heat over a wide area by means of a silent fan-forced heater. It will produce approx 4692 BTU's of heat. The flames and heater operate independently of each other so you can have just flames or flames and heat. The fireplace is 100% efficient (like any electric heater). All of the energy supplied to the unit is converted into heat, which stays in the room to keep you warm. Many gas fireplaces advertise 70-80% efficiency. This means that 20-30% of the energy supplied to the unit is vented outside. The fireplace insert operates for pennies a day. The flames use slightly under 120 Watts of power with flames only. With an average electricity rate, the unit operates for a remarkable 2¢/hr. When you choose to activate the heat feature along with the flame, the unit uses approximately 1500 Watts. The fireplace insert plugs into any standard 120-volt outlet and does not require a dedicated circuit. It is as easy to install as plugging in a lamp! In addition, the fireplace does not require any venting pipelines for fuel or expensive professional reconstruction to your home. The fireplace has full electrical certification throughout North America and no combustible energy sources are used to produce the flame. This means that you never need to worry about oxygen depletion or carbon monoxide poisoning in your home and the unit employs an over-heat safety cut out with reset control as a back up safety feature. The only maintenance involved is done every 2 to 3 years by changing a couple of light bulbs, readily available at any hardware store and you can do this easily yourself. Most gas fireplaces require ongoing, costly maintenance, which must be performed by a qualified service technician on an annual basis. Figure on paying up to $300. dollars a year for this required service.

My personal experience with the Dimplex DFI2309 Electric Fireplace Insert came about some time after my wife and I moved to our new house. Soon after, she decided she had to have a gas fire log like we had in the old house. So, in order to keep the boss happy, I decided to go all out and buy one of the new efficient models that not only looked great, but also give off tons of heat, the only problem, the price. They wanted more than $6,000. for the log set including instillation. Ouch! I then stumbled on to the Dimplex DFI2309 Electric Fireplace Insert. For a price of under $200., I was a little skeptical that this thing could even come close to the expensive gas one, but after reading so many rave reviews on Amazon, I decided to go for it. I figured if it ever turned out to be a mistake, I could always return it anyways. Since I was saving a ton of money, I also splurged on the optional trim kit (Dimplex DFI23TRIMX Expandable Trim Kit for Electric Fireplace Insert) for an additional $160. bucks.

My next job was getting the existing fireplace cleaned out and prepared. I stuffed fiberglass insulation up against the flue door and cut a piece of Styrofoam board to fit the damper opening slanting to the rear of the firebox underneath the insulation so any possible water entering down the chimney would flow away from the unit. At the time, I was surprised at how poorly the damper closed and actually had been designed with a few open holes in it. I had to be losing all kinds of heat right up the flue before the fix. In less then a couple of days the unit arrived and within minutes I had it out of the box and set up in the center of the fireplace. I measure the cord of the unit to be almost seven feet and just made it to my electrical outlet, but a little elevated off the floor, so I purchased a heavy duty six foot 14 gauge extension cord to give it a little more length. The directions only call for a 16 gauge cord, so I'm way ahead of the game. Be advised, the cord runs from the right side of the unit (as you face it). Now the trim package is a little different story and took a little more than a few minutes to put together. It's kind of a one size fits all type thing. There are 15 pieces and a whole bunch of screws involved, but the finished product was very much worth it, for me. It frames off the insert and I think makes it look more realistic and complete. My fireplace opening is surrounded by a one of a kind type tile and I did not care to cover it, but the trim unit framed it exactly without any blockage. My only gripe, the screen is not designed to completely close and leaves a 3 inch gap or so in the middle. {as far as I can figure out}. I got around this by only closing the screen quarter way or so on either side which kind of looks pretty good and makes it symmetrical and frames it very nicely. Update: After studying the mechanics of the closing mechanism for a couple of weeks, I finnally solved the problem and I can now close both screens completely in the middle. I intend on leaving the screens fully closed as it really does look more realistic this way. Says something about the terrible directions that come with the trim package. If you already have a fireplace screen or glass doors, though, I'd probably stick with them as this unit is pretty pricey and time consuming to put together. By the way, the boss loves her new electric fire log and thinks it looks just like the real thing!

Update: Yes, I still love my electric fireplace insert and the longer I own it the more realistic it seems to get.

I have read in a few other reviews, some were disappointed with the mirrored half moon shape at the rear of their insert unit. Well, I finally figured out what it is designed to do. It reflects the back of the front logs with their reflective embers with the flames between the two sets of logs giving a pretty good holographic 3d effect and the grayed out portion of the mirror simulates smoke. Altogether, it makes for a pretty realistic looking fire. I guess you could call it the use of "smoke and mirrors" to get the desired effect.

Update: I have found that this 3d/holographic effect can be increased by placing ambient light near the front of the fireplace insert. I have two lamps, a table and a floor lamp, with one placed on one side and one on the other side of my fireplace about four feet away from the center of my fireplace opening. This extra ambient light helps illuminate the rear reflected log that creates the 3d effect. Though one light is sufficient, I have found that two low watt lamps works even better. (one a 40 watt bulb and the other a 3-way 60 on low)

I would like to address some reviewer complaints regarding the remote control. The first being that the remote has something to do with the plug. Readers are lead to believe that if the plug is blocked by something (furniture) the remote will not operate. Not so. The remote will turn the unit on and off from anywhere in the room regardless of whether the plug receptacle is blocked. For what it's worth, the remote turns the insert unit on and off from anywhere in the house-the remote reception is that powerful. I suppose you could always turn it on while in the bedroom in the morning and get up to a warm living room when you finally decide to get out of bed?

Which leads me to complaints regarding the remote not controlling the heat function. This is only partially true. Once a heat setting is chosen with the switch (high or low) on the insert unit, the remote will turn that heat setting on or off along with the fire display. Yes, it would be nice to make all the heat changes with the remote, but this is not a problem for me. Basically, in the warmer months you would turn off the heat setting at the insert and in the colder months you would turn the heat setting on at the insert unit. No big deal hitting the switch either way.

Finally, to make the simulated fire "feel" even more realistic, I've added the additional senses of sound and smell. First, I ordered a sound effects download from Hypnosis Health Care (on line for $6.95) to my laptop and then copied it to a 512 MB SD card I already had. I then purchased a Satechi SD Mini Portable Pocket Speaker Mp3 player from Amazon for around $29. and I put it in the fireplace. The Satechi unit is the size of a golf ball and is black which makes it very easy to hide and it puts out excellent sound and it has great battery life. It plays for more than ten hours on a full charge, so no interruption in the mood. Additionally, it works great with the Kindle Fire too. Second, I purchased some pinon pine incense from Amazon and also hid it in the fireplace. Now with the look, feel (heat), smell, and sound of a real fire, all that's left is to enjoy!

I was surprised how realistic the fire looked when I first turned this on.

This is a solution to a thorny problem I faced. I have a rental property with what is either a faux or unfinished fireplace: depneds on your viewpoint. I didn't want to remove it,and i sure didn't want someone lighting a fire in it!

I had available electricity and available gas, but unvented logs, though heat-efficient, can oxygen deficit a room if one is not careful. (And who wants to be careful when sleeping!)

So, I took a chance on this baby at net $175 after using my prime and offered Amazon discounts.

The two speed heater and blower is just about right for a small room.

This loses its fifth star because the designers placed the remote receiver on the wall plg instead of the unit. It belongs n the unit, so you can simply point the remote at your fireplace, and it works.

In my case, the wall outlet is not reachable by line of sight, and so the circumstances rendered the remote control an otherwise nice feature unusable, and turn thisinto a manually switched fireplace.

OK, so I was a little skeptical about buying the electric fireplace thingy. The doubts? It might look fakey, I wouldn't like the flames, it wouldn't put out any heat.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. I am in LOVE with this product. I use it almost every day, and people who come over just cannot believe it's not real. One friend is replacing her gas logs after seeing my fireplace. One click of the remote, and you have a fire going. To be honest, I still don't understand how this works on a light bulb. The logs seem to glow, there are little embers that appear to be burning, and the flames dance around just like a real fire.

Oh Dimplex designers and engineers....I don't know how you did it, but you did. For $170 and free shipping (thank you Amazon!) I now have a cozy living room that I enjoy reading or watching TV in. This is truly an amazing product.

I guess you can tell I give it my highest recommendation!

This unit looks nice but is way over priced for what it is. If you are planning on getting good heat from the unit, forget it. It produces a small amount of heat only about one foot in front of your fireplace. I get better heat from a $12.00 heater with the same wattage and btu output. At the high setting the fan is to low, probably for sound reduction, and it may as well not even have the low speed setting. If you want something to look pretty in your empty fireplace then this will work. Sitting in there by itself looks bad unless you purchase (separately) the fireplace trim and screen kit that all looks good when completed. The problem? Thats right, the cost. Another $200.00 plus. And when it comes time to change the 2 bulbs that create the simulated look of fire, you have to take it all apart. Half the price for the combined package would be a fair value.

The flame does look very real. This fireplace insert is a great product in general. I took out 1 star for 2 minor reasons though:

1. The remote only switches on and off. It can not control the heat setting. So you still have to approach the unit for heat setting changes. One good thing is that the remote is wireless (433MHz). So you don't need line-of-sight between remote and the power switch for it to work. Hiding the power cord is much easier with the wireless remote.

2. Although the fire looks real, it may not be as bright as real fire. I guess fake fire may just have its limitation.

Despite of these minor concerns, the unit is pretty well designed. One great advantage is that you get to use the fireplace all year long even

in the hottest day.

So after spending a little over a week searching for a suitable kettle I have definitely found the perfect match. I recently received a 6 cup teapot and wanted to keep it in my room along with an electric kettle to replace going into the kitchen and brewing cup after cup of tea.

My criteria

Stainless steel with as little plastic contact as possible.

Hidden heating element.

Simple functions, the less bells and whistles the less to break

Good spout

Inexpensively priced.

What I like about this kettle:

It met all my criteria.

After brewing and discarding 4 kettle fulls there is no discernible aftertaste.

No plastic contact inside, there is a plastic water level but it isn't in direct contact with the largest body of water in the kettle. Also, the tube for the boiling shut off is made from stainless as well, not plastic which is really nice.

Is real metal not just plasticy coated metal imitator I saw on a few of the models.

The inside bottom is a stainless plate with the heating element underneath making clean up easy.

The outside bottom is plastic and gets warm not burning hot so it can be placed onto a surface.

Slides onto the base easily.

Auto shutoff works well.

What worries me: I say worries because it isn't a problem right now but may be a few months down the line.

The lid opens with a button which if it breaks could potentially be a problem, not to fill the kettle as the spout provides adequate room to fill it with, but to clean it.

After two brews i took the little filter out. I am using it only to heat water and only with filtered water so to me it seems unnecessary.

The switch at the bottom, it doesn't seem flimsy per say but it does seem to be a little loose, its not a push button so I worry it may give out.

Duh, or common sense things that people seem to have an issue with:

It gets hot. Yes. It's supposed to. Since the body is stainless steel, which is a good conductor of heat, it will be hot. The handle provides ample room to grab though.

It will be heavy if completely full. Yes, water in larger amounts does get heavy. The kettle itself isn't much heaver than a standard coffee carafe so it should not add much to the overall weight.

It can be a bit loud. Its boiling water, the kettle doesn't have any sound or heat insulation so yes you will be able to hear it. Honestly for me its not really a bother. The kettle sits on its own table next to my desk and I find it kind of soothing. Plus if I am heating water for green tea or white tea I can listen in and shut it off before it comes full boil.

Along those lines, if you leave water in it for some time yes the water will cool. It is not a warmer nor is it a thermos that will keep it to the same temperature all day.

Overall:

I am very satisfied with this product. I have already recommended it to several people and it has been serving me well. Its not a fancy appliance so it does its job and doesn't require a tremendous effort on my part which was exactly what I was looking for.

Researched electric kettles no end without finding a good buy with good performance. Picked this one up at Costco, trusting in the return policy.

I've had no thought of returning it: Heats fast, and the hot water has no taste or smell. Base is light but stays put--it's no effort at all to set it on the base or lift it off.

Cons:

* The metal outside gets hot. Fortunately, you have no reason to touch it. The handle is large and comfortable and your knuckles are protected from accidental brushes, so the heat of the metal is not likely to matter.

* The trigger on the top of the handle opens the lid. A minor annoyance: this usually flings a few droplets of water about. If you use the trigger to open the lid just after boiling, though, those droplets will be very hot. Fortunately, there's no reason to do this unless you're starting another kettle-full just after finishing one. When you're pouring normally, you'll be pouring through the spout and the top needn't be open.

After lots of research, I opted for this one. I drink hot tea every day and wanted an easy and safe way to make hot water, without using the microwave or turning on the stove. This electric kettle did the trick!

PROS:

Kettle can be removed from heating base and carried around.

Wide, sturdy handle for easy carrying and pouring.

Very minimal if any dripping while pouring, really great pouring design.

Heats water very fast.

Automatic shut-off once water reaches a boil, very nice feature.

Very simple switch for on/off and red indicator light tells you it is in the process of heating.

Minimal plastic, mostly stainless steel parts that touch the water.

Metal mesh filter inside pouring spout to catch mineral deposits. I don't really have a need for it, but some might. Can be removed.

Kettle can be placed at any spot on heating base, no need to line anything up.

Heating portions are internal to reduce corrosion and damage.

Boil-dry prevention; it won't allow the unit to turn on the heating element if it detects kettle is empty.

CONS:

Measuring indicator is behind handle, so not the easiest to read while holding.

Product guide states minimum water to boil should be no less than one liter. This is excessive for some of my uses, but not a big deal.

Uses a lot of power fast to quickly heat up that amount of water, actually tripped the breaker!

Lid is spring-loaded so when you push the button, it flings open and if the water is hot, it will fly back on your hand or arm. Though there is no real reason to open the kettle up when it has boiling hot water in it, it could be dangerous especially for kids.

Small opening makes it more difficult to clean, though you aren't to put anything other than water in it so only minimal cleaning is required.

OTHER

Noise: You can hear the kettle heating the water, and it sounds much like a kettle on a stove. There isn't a whistle, but you can hear the water boiling. When it shuts off, there is a 'click' as the switch flips off. I like that, lets me know it is done.

Heavy: Remember, the more water is in it, the heavier it will be. You can't touch anywhere but the handle because it is too hot (and stays hot for awhile). The handle is sturdy and thick enough to pick up the kettle, but if you have weak hand/wrists and it is full, BE CAREFUL. Use a potholder if you need to touch the other side for balance.

Overall: I'm happy with my purchase. You can easily spend a lot of money on an electric tea kettle, but I don't see the need to, this one from Hamilton Beach does a fine job.

I bought one from Costco. It works perfect. There is no rubber smell. I have a very sensitive nose when drinking my earl grey tea. Performance so far is just as good as the Cuisine Art that we keep upstairs which tends to break down after a year of use. We will see which one will lasts longer without breaking down.

I have had this product for a few months and find it gives out adequate heat for my use. I am a diabetic and my feet are always cold. I keep this directed at my feet when I sit at my computer desk. It warms my feet quickly and I then keep them comfortably warm by periodically turning the heat on as needed. I also sometimes place it on my desk for cooling off when I am too warm. I use the cool fan level for this and it is really great to keep me comfortable when I don't want to use my air conditioner. I really like this versatile product.

I purchased this when it was on sale through a friend that had PRIME. It was selling for only $12.97 and I thought for that price, how can I go wrong? Let me tell you, so far...so good. This thing is small and even on the lowest setting it has some pretty good heat coming out of it. It's also pretty quiet.

Of course, I've got it in my PC room which faces the North. No telling how it will work once it gets even colder, but like I said, for now it outputs plenty of heat.

I recommend this one highly, especially for the price.

I've had this in for 7 months now and it works fine, I leave it on all winter and hang the towels on it after a shower and it keeps the towels dry. If your looking to have a warm towel after a shower this WILL NOT do it! If you want towels to dry faster and not get a mildew smell and be just a little warm this will do it. the bar gets hot and stays hot as long as it's plugged in, I would guess 140 degrees but not sure, and if I remember right it's about 80 watts so not a lot of electricity. Construction and manufacturing seems good, bar is strong and well chrome plated, cord is heavy and seems like it will last, the plastic clips on the top that hold it to your towel bar I'm not so happy with, they haven't broken and work fine but seem a little light duty or chincy compared to the rest of it.

Unit looks nice. I liked the attachment hangers. But if fails on so many other levels. It doesn't really warm the towels.Also the product card states that you plug it in and turn it on, and the indicitator light will be lit.

No switch or indicator light. Just plugs in and it is on, but that is known only because you can feel the bar getting hot at the top.

Not recommended by me.

Ordered this last Wednesday, got it yesterday (Tuesday) and could not wait to use it. Ripped that puppy out of the box, wiped it down, added some batteries and even though I usually don't drink coffee in the evenings, I didn't care. I was a little concerned about the milk type to use. I've seen so many people say it works in skim or 1% milk, rice or soy milk. Well, no one said ANYTHING about Almond Milk and I can't switch to any others (cow milk...I prefer not to breastfeed off a cow since I was weaned many moons ago off a human, lol. Soy milk isn't good for boys/my son due to female hormones and I have really tried to like rice milk...). So, with that said, I was a little nervous this wasn't going to work, but was willing to purchase anyway.

Well, after nuking my almond milk for 30 seconds, I turned this on (I had poured my milk into a stainless steel frothing pitcher after heating it up). WHOA! Whoever left the review about blowing in a straw to get the same effect, I am rather impressed you can blow in a straw like that! I then let the milk set for a bit while I ran my coffee through my Cuisinart K-Cup maker. I then spooned this out onto my coffee and the froth was pretty darn cool. I totally felt like I could work at Starbucks (heehee).

This morning, I did it a little bit backwards to see if it would still work the same. I still heated up my milk in my coffee cup, frothed it in my coffee cup and then stuck it under the Cuisinart to see what would happen as the coffee was made. It didn't change the foam consistency at all. So it was pretty awesome that it would work both ways!

And, the seller themselves just really great! Communication was awesome from the time I ordered to now. Constantly making sure I was in the know about shipping, using it and anything else.

I like this a lot and it's super easy to use!
