This is a great heater! We use it to heat the living area of our RV. The living area is approximately 26' x 10' with normal height ceilings. We've tried a few different compact room heaters, but they were too small to heat the area and also way too noisy. We've had the heater about 4 months now. Since we are staying in cooler climates, we've used it almost every night (overnight).

The best features about this heater are:

It's QUIET!!!

Really!! We have tried many heaters in our RV and house over the years and they tend to be so noisy. The model we tried before purchasing the Lasko was so noisy we had to crank the tv volume up to hear over it. This Lasko seems to be about as quiet as a fan could be.

It has an automatic thermostat you can set.

This model has a high/low and auto setting. The high/low settings are not thermostat controlled. You simply choose hotter or less hot air. :) The auto setting allows you to set the thermostat to the temperature you desire. It seems reasonably "accurate". That is, the temperature it displays is within 3-4 degrees of the other thermometers I have around the room. Once you set the thermostat, the heater cycles on/off, just like you would expect. This is a great way to keep the room at your target temperature. We use this mode every night.

It oscillates.

This sounds like a silly feature to list, but it makes a big difference in heating up a room. The previous heaters we've had did not oscillate. Therefore, the area directly in front of the heater was warmed, but the rest of the room was not. The oscillation really helps get the heat moved around the room so that you are not creating hot and cold spots. We always turn on the oscillation to heat the room. I am sold on that feature and would not buy another heater in the future unless it oscillated.

It has a remote control.

The only thing that would make it better is if you could see the settings on the remote instead of having to look at the top of the heater. But, if they did that, the cost would go up. So, I'm happy with this remote given the price of the unit.

There are a couple of negatives about this heater:

To me, it is annoying that it beeps for every setting you change. This may be a problem if you plan to use it in your bedroom and change settings while someone is asleep. The beeping is really apparent when you want to change the thermostat. When you unplug the heater, it resets itself to 75 degrees. So, if you then want to set it to 60 degrees, you are going to hear 15 LOUD beeps. Turn it on beep. Choose oscillate beep. Change to auto setting beep. Decide to up the temperature by 3 degrees during the night beep, beep, beep... and your partner is now awake! You get the idea. :) I assume Lasko designed the beep so that you would know you changed something while clicking the remote control. But, it's so loud they should either make it softer or give you an option to turn it off.

There is no "fan only" setting.

It seems like most heaters I've purchased in the past have a fan only setting. I'm not sure why this one does not. Since you have the big unit sitting there in your room, it would be nice if it could be used to circulate air during the day when it's warmer, and then heat at night once the temps have dropped. Since we are using this heater in our RV, it's more noticeable to me since we need to have space for the both the heater and a fan. Oh well.

Overall, we love this heater and would buy it again.

I rate it at 4.5 stars.

(PS we bought it at a local store, not via Amazon, so I can't comment on shipping).

UPDATE 1/18/2010: We've had this heater about 1 year now and it's still going strong. One thing I've noticed is that it will build up lint (Ummm... ok, cat & dog fur...). I wish there was a filter we could access and clean more directly. Oh well, other than that this heater is still doing great.

I own two of these Lasko tower heaters--this review is for the newest one which has a remote control. In the accompanying video, you will see a detailed explanation of the buttons on the control panel and the indicator lights on the screen. In the video, I note that the only thing I really DISlike about this heater is that what passes for a carry handle on the back of this model is pathetic...I can't see how anyone could pick up the heater and carry it that way. In fact, when I tried, I dropped it. My other heater has an obvious carry handle on the top.

The remote control is fantastic for turning the unit on and off or changing the thermostat from bed, from across the room, etc. The remote contains all the controls that the actual heater has on its control panel. When the heater is oscillating, it can be a little tricky to get the remote to "talk" to the heater at first...you just have to wait for it to oscillate toward you to click the remote.

UPDATE: This heater died yesterday (Jan. 18, 2012). I have no clue what happened. I went to turn it earlier and nothing. Used the reset instructions which say to unplug and wait 5 minutes and turn it back on. Nothing. Tried it in 3 different outlets. Nothing. Bummer.

this heater is a life saver! my room mate and i are too cheap to have the heater on all the time. when we are home we have it on at a tolerable 65 degrees and turn it off when we leave the apartment. the heater is a great way to save on the bills and is eco-friendly. it heats up my room very well and pretty fast.

i decided to get lasko just because my boss has one in his office and i do like it. i also saw it at wal-mart and for only 45 dollars (w00t) and it's up for 75 bucks on the lasko website (double w00t) so it was a good deal!

the bad:

-the digital display is on top of the heater. it's inconvenient when i want to see the digital display screen from my bed

-no fan only option

the good!:

-quiet enough for me to fall asleep to (and i'm a light sleeper!)

-comes with a cute little remote controller with the same buttons as the heater and is very convenient if you don't want to get out of bed

-the heater beeps when you use the remote on it to show that it gets the command

-very cool feature: the auto option is great! let's say i have it set to 75 degrees. the heater will heat up to 77 degrees and temporarily shut off till the room cools down to 74 degrees. then the heater starts up again and the cycle keeps continuing till you or the timer shuts it off. i usually have this on when i'm sleeping and have no worries about being too hot.

-a timer that goes up to 8 hours

-high, low, or automatic setting

-can turn from side to side only on the high and auto setting

-compact

-has a handle in the back for easy carrying

i've had this heater only for a month, but i can tell it's going to last for a long while! because of it, i'm going to trust lasko!! i highly recommend this heater. as you can see, the good outweighs the bad!

Honest reviews on Lasko 755320 Ceramic Tower Heater with Digital Display and Remote

I bought one of these last year to put in my bedroom because I live on a three-floor townhome and the termostat is on the second floor. My bedroom is very large and the little heater did a great job warming it up. So I decided to get a couple more heaters, one for the guest bedroom and one for my basement office. They did such a great job and made my energy bill so much lower that I brought the guest room heater to the living room and turned off the central heat.

This year, I went to a store and saw them at a lower price, so I went ahead and bought another one to put back in the guest bedroom. They are really great because not only do they have remote controls, but they also have an auto setting, so you can program the temperature you want and just leave it on. Programming is as easy as pushing a button to set it higher or another one to set it lower, and the heater thermostat makes sure the room stays at about the temperature you set. This product is so good that two of my friends went ahead and bought some for their houses after they came over and I told them about how happy I am with them!

Here are my thoughts on this product:

PROS

light and easy to carry around if you want to move it from one room to another

durable, the ones I bought a year ago work as great as they did when I bought them

convenient and easy to use remote control

easy to use digital control on the unit

automatic temperature setting

heats up the space quickly, even larger rooms

does not use much electricity

nice design, easy on the eyes

cheap and small enough that you can get one for each room of your place

for multi-floored homes, if working with central heaters it will help level the heat throughout the place

CONS

after thinking a lot, I realized that the only con is that you have to be careful where you store the remote control during the summer. I had put the ones that are in rooms where there are drawers in the drawers, but can't remember where I put the remote for the unit in my living room. So, if you purchase this during the cold months, come up with a system for storing the remotes at a place you will remember by the time it gets cold again next year.

UPDATE: When the temperature gets really low outside (teens through low 20th's) I do turn on my central heater to help with the larger area of my place (living and dining rooms that are open together). So, if you live in a colder region and have larger areas with big windows or sliding doors, one of these heaters may not be enough to keep such areas toasty. Although, if it is a larger area that has heavy curtains helping insulate it, etc, then it may be all you need (ie: my bedroom is 15 x 12 and this little heater handles all that is needed to keep the room warm, and the finished part of my basement that has only a window--not a large glass sliding door like the living room-can also be kept really nice and warm with just one of these heaters running in it).

Enjoy your warm home!

I bought this heater for $40 and am pleased with its performance. We use it in our basement gameroom and live in Western PA cooler climate.

The heating element is the same for all of their heaters meaning they all provide the same amount of heat. The differences are in the features. This model has a couple features worth noting.

oscillating the heater slowly turns back and forth to disperse the heat around the room. Control this on the remote or the unit.

thermostat the heater kicks on when the ambient temp around the heater is 2 degrees under the set temp. It stays on until it reaches the desired temp. Control this on the remote or the unit.

CONS: the only negative to this model is that the temperature is digitally displayed but faces UP. When seated on a couch level with the unit, you can not see the temperature. Obviously this is not a reason to not buy this model but it is worth noting. This is why the unit received 4/5 stars. It is otherwise perfect!

Regarding the hot cord, I did not experience this. But I also did not have it running for 5+ continuous hours. Ours kicks on until the room is up to the set temp and turns off. If it was running on high for hours on end, the cord will probably heat up. Any heater will do this.

I only noticed the smell of heated plastic for the first 5 minutes the unit was on (first time it was started). This smell went away and I have not noticed it sense (few weeks of owning it and use it every night).
