Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program UPDATE: Days are now colder and I am demanding more of my foot heater. The Fellowes Heat & Slide Footrest doesn't do an adequate job of keeping my feet warm (I have to slide my foot around the footrest to find the heat). On the flip side, my favorite foot heater (Vornado, see below), does an excellent job of keeping my feet warm (& I love the fan). I've down-rated the Fellowes from 3 stars to 1 star. Spend your money on the Vornado & you won't be disappointed.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

I LOVE a good Foot Heater & have been using the Vornado EH1-0039-06 225-Watt SoleAire Foot Rest and Personal Space Heater for the past 3 years in my office. The Vornado has a fan & does a great job of distributing heat. The only drawback of the Vornado is that it has a fixed foot position & if you try to move the footrest, sometimes the rubber feet with come off & you have to bend down to put them back in.

This Fellowes Foot Heater does not have a built in fan & warms your feet with a gentle warmth that takes a little time to get warm once you turn it on. The heat seems to come from the middle (around your foot arch) & mine seems to be warmer on my left foot side. The foot heater does an OK job but you have to be shoe-free to enjoy the gentle warmth that this machine provides.

The Fellowes heater gives the user the ability to adjust their foot position, which is a nice feature. However, the heater moves fairly easily, so it seems that I am constantly adjusting my foot position & sometimes have to bend down under my desk to adjust it by hand.

I have let the "time" expire on the foot heater a couple of times. When that happens, the red button flashes. The first time this happened, I simply pushed the flashing button & it stopped. The second time, I had to unplug the unit a couple of times before I could get the button to stop flashing.

I will use this Fellowes heater in my home office because it is here. If I had to choose the Vornado over the Fellowes (price not a factor), I would choose the Vornado without hesitation.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Fellowes Heat and Slide Footrest is no beauty to look at, so if you can hide this black and gray plastic footrest, that's for the best. It snaps into place very quickly and includes four floor protectors to keep from marring the floor or denting the carpet too badly. The knobby textured surface for one's feet looks like a blown up toad's back but the bumpy protrusions do feel pretty good on one's soles.

The heat is pretty subtle, as you can feel some warmth but not so much as to make you dance about. In fact, the best aspect is that you turn it on and just forget about it. I tend to slide it back and forth a bit, so I hope the plastic channels are durable. The automatic off setting for the heater is a thoughtful default.

I expect as the days cools down, there may be some degree of competition between the cats and me for using this footrest, and if it holds up, this footrest is a nice creature comfort. Be careful not to use it to peer into the upper reaches of a closet or top of a bookcase---this footrest will buckle and bend under any real weight.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My office is located in the corner part of a building and three sides are brick walls. Fall and Winters are terribly cold. It is so cold that I have a portable heater always blowing on me. Since I got the Fellowes Heat and Slide Footrest, the days for double socks are long gone. The Fellowes Heated Footrest Provides heat on top and below the footrest. That means you can be working away at your desk and and rubbing your feet on the the massing bumps on the top of the footrest and reviving the circulation in your legs and feet. If the massage is not your thing, you can just place your feet below the footrest and let the heat hit the top of your feet.

It is amazing how just warming your feet can have a warming effect on the rest of your body. Besides giving warmth, improves leg circulation, offers support and overall posture while reducing the chances of lower back problems.

There is an auto-off feature turns off the unit after 8 hours of use, so no need to worry after you got home if you forgot to turn it off. Hands-free operation. It loses 1-star because I wish it had some kind of controlling the heat settings.

I just love how all the girls at work are jealous of my heated footrest. :-)

Honest reviews on Fellowes Heat and Slide Footrest, Black/Grey (8080901)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program In their eagerness to avoid lawsuits and setting customers on fire, the people at Fellowes have created a heated footrest that doesn't particularly work. Bulky, unattractive, exuding the heat of a used oven mitt, this Heat and Slide Footrest is an almost total misfire. Read on for the details:

APPEARANCE/ADJUSTABILITY: Cumbersome and ugly. The footrest is relatively lightweight, which is nice. The adjustable top is jerky but does stay in place fairly well.

HEAT: On top of the unit is best, with a distinct heat emitting from most of the surface. The only problem is, you are supposed to wear your shoes (see photo at top of product page), according to their instructions. Through shoes you are not going to feel this level of heat, and the "massage" bumps are meaningless. Underneath the unit there is almost no heat whatsoever, despite the promises of the product page. Pretty much nothing is happening (sparking my sister to wonder if our unit came broken. I don't think so, as other reviewers noted the same problem.)

So there you have it. Use it as they tell you to, and it won't work. There are better heated footrests on the market and so there is no point to wasting money on this one. More or less useless, and rating:

GRADE: D

It also makes a weird snapping noise from time to time.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program While this footrest does a fair job of warming your feet, I wouldn't call it a necessary item for your daily use in a drafty office or home. It takes quite a while to actually get your feet warm using this device; though when they do get toasty, they stay that way. If you are strictly looking for a footrest, I would say there are better devices for that application. I guess I was hoping it would be more practical than it actually seems to be. Nonetheless, it does work for the purpose in which it was designed.
