There are currently two seemingly identical models listed on Amazon, the F232025 and the F273400. I contacted the manufacturer and verifed that the F232025 is the newest version. The F273400 was manufactured through 2008. For this reason, I'd recommend purchasing the F232025. It's also cheaper.

Bought a heater to keep us warm while buddies and I ice fish while the lakes are frozen here in Colorado. I was torn between this Buddy heater and the bigger model, the Big Buddy heater, but decided this smaller one would work fine. It does the job nicely, when we are in our ice fishing tent we turn it on and it heats it up nicely. The only thing I wish this model had was a fan blower like the bigger model has, because most of the heat it produces goes straight up. It might be worth it just to buy the bigger model so you can have the fan blow the hot air on you. This thing does produce some serious heat though, if you put your hands too close to it they will start to burn after a few seconds.

I also bought a Mac Coupler to go along with this heater, this lets you refill the 1LB propane bottles from your 20LB gas grill propane bottle so you won't have to throw the 1LB propane bottles away. I would suggest for anybody that uses the 1LB propane bottles to buy a Mac Coupler, just search for it on amazon and read the reviews for it. It will save you alot of money!

Some other reviewer from Colorado on here said this does not work that great at high altitudes, but I live in Colorado as well, and I have used this heater at several lakes ice fishing including Antero Reservoir (8900 ft. altitude) and 11 Mile Reservoir (8600 ft. altitude) and the heater has worked fine. I guess it just doesn't work at the really super high altitudes like 10,000 ft. and above.

We used it camping in a tent and it kept the tent in the 60's while it was in the 30's outside! My wife will never complain about camping again.

This is for the MH9BX newer version of Mr. Heater Portable Buddy. It would appear that Mr. Heater has made some improvements in the Portable Buddy line and perhaps they have, but as is often the case these days "improved" versions are often lacking.

First I should say that I have been using an older version of this product for a couple of years now and have only good things to say about it. So when the need arose to buy two more Portable Buddy heaters I went right to Amazon and did so. The new Buddy differs from the old in several seemingly unimportant ways, but these differences are important.

1. The propane connection is now built with a swivel mechanism which makes attaching a propane bottle much easier. Remains to be seen if this feature works well over time.

2. The control valve has been redesigned. The old model had a separate valve control and ignitor control. Now these two functions have been combined in a single control. The best I can say about this is that it is "funky", meaning that it doesn't work smoothly and requires a bit of fussing with it to change the control from one setting to the next. This is consistent with both units I purchased.

Just one week after the 30 day Amazon return period expired, one of these units stuck in the HIGH position and would not turn off. After messing with the control for about 30 minutes, I was finally able to get it to the off position. The internal push-to-turn safety mechanism just barely works correctly on a good day. I think it's only a matter of time before both fail completely.

Warranty service requires you to return the unit at your expense. Meanwhile my old Buddy continues to work flawlessly. Let me also state that I'm very mechanically minded so the problem here is not with my skill level.

Fantastic product highly recommended for snappy localized heating. I bought this unit for a fall camping trip to Vail, CO -Bryce Canyon, UT -and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, AZ.

While in Vail, the temps made it down to 25 the first night we were tent camping and the Mr. Buddy heater kept our 100 sq. foot tent toasty warm throughout the night.

Over the 9 day trip we successfully used the unit at various altitudes up to 8500' and temps down to 25 with no problems whatsoever. I used the 16 oz propane canisters (green coleman fuel) with ease. (Count on about 1 can per night)

Excellent product and designed with safety in mind...even though the unit is kicking out the heat, the surround and body stay cool enough to touch. No concerns for my tent floor.

Shop around and get it on sale. (Minor note mine has the newer yellow body vs. the pictured red)
