Let me explain what I think about this unit. I have 3500 square feet house in Central Florida and top of the line heat pump Central Air just installed a few years ago. All works perfect except one thing: I have to cool the entire house with it and at 4500 Watts in case of power down my diesel generator at 6500 Watts is just about running it when 1100 Watts refrigerator and lights are on at the same time. Another thing is Central Air conditioner will get you over 250 bucks electric bill during summer and this is when thermostat is set to only 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, I ordered this unit thinking it is going to be so-so portable that can subsidize cooling now and then. The unit came in UPS, it is about 84 lbs, has wheels, is very quiet, does wonders drying the air, very nice quality built and components, remote, digital thermostat, can be converted to auto drain with just additional hose if you really must, runs on 1100 Watts, and is pleasant to look at. At 9000 BTU it is very nice gizmo indeed no vibrations, smooth working and very well made. That very same day I received it and run it for entire day, I ordered another one just like it. I hope that explains how good and useful this thing is. Get one if you need one and you will be happy you did. BTW, packaging for shipping was absolutely exemplary this thing would have to be dropped from 2nd floor on concrete to get damaged in all that styrofoam and cartons. I am very happy with this purchase. Remote is also quite handy when you use it in the bedroom at night. Water tank that had to be emptied is actually good thing, because no worries about over flooding the unit, and you can distilled water for ironing or car battery if you ever need that. The conversion adapter for continues water drain is included if you need that. I am somehow puzzled with negative review posted under Alesia, because I went to this individual's "see my other reviews" and there were like a HUNDRED of portable units, all with the SAME REVIEW and all purchased on the SAME DAY. That is very strange indeed. It is either mistake or overdose. Anyway, I think this unit is working well and it is worth the money. I use it already for over a month and it is better then ever.

We received a SPT WA-9000E 9,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner on 6/11/10. There was an odd odor the first couple of times that we turned it on a plastic smell would be the best way to describe it. After about a week, my husband called (909) 468-5288 and left a message (no one returned the call). Later that day he called (800)330-0388 and spoke with a women who told him that as long as it was blowing cold air there was not a freon leak. She mentioned that the smell may be attributed to the styrofoam packing inside the machine. We just assumed that it smelled odd because it was new. We used it four or five times for maybe 3 hours each time. Well today is 7/6/10 and it hit 100 degrees outside; there is no longer any smell BUT THERE IS NO LONGER ANY COLD AIR BLOWING OUT OF THE MACHINE. I have sent an email to Sunpentown through the Amazon site. I want everything in writing with regard to how to get this 80lb piece of crap back to them. The financial burden should not be mine after having this item for only 25 days. I will update with their response.Update: July 7, 2010 Customer Service has been very nice. An exchange is in the process . . .
Update: July 13, 2010 Semi-disaster. We received the replacement today but the coolant leaked all over it. I called customer service and was told UPS must have dropped the box. He told me to put it back in the box and UPS would pick it up tomorrow since it was damaged, and ANOTHER replacement would be sent out today. A return label was sent with the replacement in order to exchange the first air conditioner. I was supposed to take that one to UPS myself and use the box from today's delivery, but today's delivery is going back. We just want to be done with it. I called back to request a refund rather than take a chance with AC #3. Fortunately, UPS will pick up AC #1 the same time that they pick up AC #2. I was on the phone with sunpentown several times today and they were nice and patient, but this is such a hassle. At least I found another box big enough to send back AC #1. Free Super Saver shipping was not offered when I purchased this item, so I hope my shipping charges are refunded as well. (I don't have the heart to call back to ask since I have tormented the poor representative enough today.) To be continued . . .
Update: July 14, 2010 UPS did not show up. The short version of the saga: Stayed home to wait for UPS man but found out late in the day (after numerous cranky calls to both Sunpentown and UPS) a "damage inspection" needed to be scheduled, before a pick-up could be scheduled. Sunpentown rectified situation by scheduling a pick-up for Friday (7/16/10) and UPS will inspect the damaged item (AC#2) on their own site. Unfortunately, they cannot pick up AC#1 with AC#2 (different circumstances, hence different trucks and drivers). So I am lugging AC #1 to a UPS site tomorrow. I want these God forsaken machines out of my house!
Update: July 28, 2010 Both machines were returned and received by Sunpentown on July 21, 2010 (verified by UPS tracking #s). I just sent them an email inquiry through this Amazon site about my reimbursement.
Update: July 30, 2010 No response to email; I just sent another.
Update: August 1, 2010 Full refund received.

We purchased this unit to help cool the 3rd floor of our townhouse which has been over 82 when the house AC is set to 77. (Temps have been in the high 90s here in Northern Virginia). The unit is fairly quiet given the size. It has carrying handles on the side that made it easy to lug up our 3 flights of stairs. The unit must be vented to the outside to release the heat. The hose was of moderate length and the adapter piece for the window was adequate. We had to cut it to fit our window. We also had to make a trip to Home Depot to purchase insulating foam and tape to help hold it in place and plug the air leaks. We have the unit in a small bedroom and it blows cool air into the hallway, a distance of about 7 feet. As far as water accumulating in the unit, we haven't had much. In our house it's about half full after running it for an entire day. This may change when the humidity comes back. I am very happy we purchased this unit. We have been running it for 5 days and so far I would recommend it.Honest reviews on SPT Portable Air Conditioner, 9000 BTUs, WA-9000E
I received this product via UPS heavy load. I set this thing up, in hopes, of a portable A/C for our kitchen...not good. One, it is way to big and bulky for any room. Two, the exhaust hose, that you are required to use, cannot be flexed in any way. In other words, the unit has to be at least 4-5 ft away from a window and sit in the middle of a room. The window attachment could not be set up in our wndow, if used, I had to hacksaw it to make it fit. I decided that it would not work for me. I then had to pay UPS to send it back, to the tune of 150.00! So, this is a product that cost more than 1/2 its price to return...so you better be sure its right for you..Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for SPT Portable Air Conditioner, 9000 BTUs, WA-9000E
The unit does not cool as much as I expected. A 5,000 BTU window unit did much better and much quicker. It is the ducting kit that keeps it from cooling very well. That hose puts off a tremendous amount of heat. I saw one persons review and they had to actaully try and keep the duct hose cool?! I know it should get warm, but this one gets hot!The ducting kit for this is flimsy and does not install very well. Mine actually has a problem with one end of the ducting kit. So I contacted them via e mail on their website, three times, not once did I hear back from them, not once. How does a company literally just ignore customer requests?! I was not asking for a new unit, i was asking for help with the ducting kit or at the very least a new ducting kit. Nothing, no response from them.
I would not buy anything from that company again, ever.
