My husband and I live in the Midwest, in a summer home built from cinderblock that does not have any insulation. We bought this to avoid massive heating bills. The cinderblock's great in the summer, but not so much in the winter.

We were considering a $200 box-shaped model at a local hardware store, but it was clunky, ugly and only had a two-year warranty. Staff there claimed it would heat the whole house but I wasn't convinced.

I looked at some cheaper towel models but was concerned what other buyers reported: no tip-over switch, burnt plastic smells, housing becoming too hot to the touch and poor workmanship, leading models to only work for a year.

The ATH1 is small (only about 2 feet tall), sleek and stealthy-quiet. No funny plastic smells, and the unit was cool to the touch after it ran for about an hour.

We had our central heat set on 60 degrees, but this warmed up our living room to a cozy 75 degrees in about 15-20 minutes.

The only thing I noticed is the cord was warm after use, but I assume that's expected as it draws a lot of electricity.

My previous space heater (ceramic) is years old and still gives off a plastic-y smell whenever it heats. This new one heats faster, has a greater output, sends the heat out across the floor so that it heats more efficiently (since the hot air then rises), and it doesn't smell! It also has knockover safety protection. Very pleased with this purchase.

I bought this to use in my bedroom to replace the floor-board heaters, which I turned on every night to about 70 degrees. Using this over the floor-board heaters dropped by energy bill $35 from Dec/Jan to Jan/Feb. Both months were equally cold, the only change was really the heater. It takes some time to heat up the room, but it makes the room a very comfortable temperature. I am incredibly happy with my purchase, it will easily pay for itself.
