I splurged on this item for the holidays for myself. I like to spend cold winter nights under a cozy throw with fuzzy slippers by the fireplace. Once I went upstairs to go to bed, though...I lost the cozy feel and I always wished I could have a fireplace in my bedroom. Not really having the money to install a "real" fireplace...I looked into the "fake" options. This unit hangs on the wall like a painting. It really is easy to do (I did it myself in about half an hour) and takes up no room at all. Now I can continue the cozy feeling when I climb into bed. I love the automatic timer shut off option so I can fall asleep and know that it won't stay on all night. The only thing that is not perfect about it is that the sound that it makes is a fan blowing sound (necessary I know) and there is no fire crackling sound. I have attempted to resolve this issue by playing nature sounds of fireplace noise. All I need now is the fireside candle from yankee candle and I will have the entire effect! It is a great way to spend the money if you love to sit fireside!

This electric fireplace is ideal for a small room where you wouldn't otherwise have the space for a fireplace. The logs are fairly realistic looking and the flames are as realistic as you'd get in more expensive electric fireplaces. The remote is great, but has a fairly short range (not a problem if you've got this in a small room.) I'm pleased that the heater fan is fairly quiet. The only real problem is that the heat only shoots straight up and there's no built-in diverter to redirect the air. That is easily solved by buying a deflector and attaching it to the top (though it loses some of it's charm with a deflector attached...)

I bought this to hang on my bedroom wall. It's one of the most realistic looking fires I've ever seen. The only thing that gives it away is the flames repeat if you keep staring at it too long.. I've seen other fireplaces that I thought looked pretty realistic until I bought this and now they look like toys.

I did want to use it for supplemental heat in my room during winter, but it does not have a thermostat so you have to turn it on and off with the remote for the heat.. doesn't work real well at night if you want it to keep your room warm while you sleep as it would get too warm running nonstop and it's a little loud. But the realistic fire to me is still worth 5 stars and putting a little space heater with a thermostat in the corner of the room takes care of the heat.

One nice feature is it has a timer so you can set it before you go to bed in half hour intervals up to 8 hours, and fall asleep to a fire but not have it run all night. Great ambiance lighting for watching TV, falling asleep, etcetera etcetera (wink wink).

PSif you want a candle that makes your room smell like a real wood fireplace, the Firewood wood wick by Candlewood Candle Co is the best and smells exactly like a hardwood fire is blazing away in a real brick fireplace. And it crackles.
