We use this device to control a furnace rated gas fireplace. It operates on battery as opposed to 110 volt wall current and that is a real plus when there is a power outage. Recently we purchased a second one of these devices based on two years of success with the first device. The second device operates a fireplace at a vacation home that is subject to power outages. Because it can be set to monitor the temperature and operate the fireplace without 110 volt current, it provides a backup heat source when the power is out and the temperatures are below freezing. This is important for a vacant home and it is helpful when the home is occupied. Be aware though that the fan on the fireplace will not run during a power outage so this device does not overcome that issue. FYI, batteries seem to last over a year so battery consumption is not an issue.

I bought the Skytech 3301 remote transmitter and receiver box to replace my Avanti (model AHP304R2T) which had stopped working. The Skytech has pretty much the same features, which I was happy about, but I've been disappointed in the transmitter. The transmitter works fine, but the batteries keep falling out. They are held in by a small plastic plate. The plate has two tabs at one end and another at the other end. The top tab just isn't strong enough to keep the plate in place. The other thing I don't like about the Skytech is the display. My Avanti was easy to read. It had bold block letters on an almost white screen. The Skytech letters are as big, but not as bold and they are displayed against a dark gray screen.

The Skytech line of products is high quality at a reasonable price. I purchased the Skytech 3301 to replace the manual Skytech Control I have used for about 7 years and is still working like new. I wanted a Thermostatic Control so we would not have to cycle the logs On/Off and adjust the flame manually each time the desired temperature was reached. I contacted my local dealer, from which the logs were purchased, to see what would would work with our logs and was given the product number. I wanted to price shop before buying, local price turned out to be much higher. I ordered and it was received in a couple of days, it was as advertised however, when I removed the old remote control I noticed the two contacts were different sizes, neither of which was the size of the new one. I called Skytech, after a little discussion I learned I have a "Servo Gas Valve", i.e. read "ADJUSTABLE FLAME" and not compatable with the Thermostatic Remote Control "Either On or Off"! Unfortunately I had to return the Skytech 3301, none of the Thermostatic controllers will work with a Servo Valve. Sometime later I was in my local store and asked about the Remote Thermostat this time he told me "it would not work with our logs"! Bottom line be sure you have all the right information and ask questions before buying. Save everyone some time and money!

I have a gas fireplace that had a wall thermostat located more than 25 ft. from the fireplace. Problem was sometimes the thermostat would lite the fireplace sometimes it wouldn't, very hit or miss.

After I installed the Skytech 3301, no more trouble, works perfect everytime, and so handy, you don't have to get out of your chair to turn up the heat.

I purchased this heater to warm my office at school...the nuns won't turn on the radiators until you can see your breath...inside the building! I have 13 foot ceilings in this office and it keeps it toasty. I've been very pleased with it's performance, especially since I paid only $9.95 for it! These portable electric heaters are small in size but have given off ample heat when needed in a pinch in those early morning hours when trying to get kids out the door for school.

Since I was already familiar with the model HFH 104, that I sold over the summer on eBay, I figured the model HFH 105 would be similar. They both have the two heat settings of 1000 and 1500 watts and the power light plus a fan only setting. Also included in both models are the auto safety shut-off and the cord wrap.

The carry handle and cord wrap are easier to utilize in this model of the Holmes Portable Electric Heater, HFH 105. It is advised not to use an extension cord unless you absolutely have to, and with limited electrical outlets in the duplex we reside in I have to use extension cords through out the house. I have only utilized these heaters in the living room and for limited time in the morning and evening hours.

This is a compact design, but it resembles a flimsy version in a dark drab gray shade. The switch is located on the right side and turns from fan to low and high heat setting. This unit has been tested beyond the UL standards and comes with a booklet showing ten safety tips for use and care of the heater. This is similar to the other version. Basically the heaters should not be used in bathrooms or outdoors and nothing flammable should be near it or bedding or curtains. The cord should not be placed under a rug and do not insert any foreign objects into the unit.

The fan setting worked very well giving off some cool air and tricked my son into thinking heat was coming out. I was not as satisfied when making the purchase the first few days with the heat output compared to the HFH 104 unit. That model seemed to heat the room quicker and more efficiently. The pedestal base is flimsy on this unit and appears cheaply made. This unit was always placed flat on a surface intended for such items. There would never be any other items on the same table as the heater when it was turned on.

This is cheap, easy to carry, but smells like smoke when you first turn it on.

SAMS has a couple of these towers available, one being the Lasko, the other a Delonghi (which I never heard of). The reviews of the Delonghi are pretty bad, especially the electronics. In my opinion, the simpler the device the better. Howwever, this Lasko has very good reviews, and I also have their tower fans that have lasted for 5 years plus. Also, in these energy sensitive days, where you pay 11 to 12 cents per KWH, these towers consume electric heating at 1.5 KW. That means 18 cents an hour. So, to save energy in the winter, there is absolutely no need to heat the whole house throughout the night, especially if there are only two occupied bedrooms (or less). So, if you set the room thermostat at, say 55 or 60 degrees,and set the house thermostat at, say 50 (or less for you of envigorating character), you can have a comfortable existance. You can thermostatically turn on the main house unit at say, an hour before you get up to unchill the house. Anyhow, this heater will more than pay for itself.

i have gas heat and was paying $350 month for a small house in florida during the winter. i intalled a programmable timer and the heat kicks on for an hour every morning while we shower and dress. the rest of the day i use this lasko in the living area. i stay very warm and my heating bill dropped to $100. the price of this heater is $49 and i save $250 month. def worth it! btw... i love the auto shutoff feature. i set the temp at 76 or 78 and it kicks off auto when the room reaches that temp.

My elderly relatives have owned various space heaters over the years and I was not happy with those so avoided them for my own use in the past. One blasted air like a fan which made it seem cold actually, the other went from raging hot heat, then shut off and it felt colder than it probably really was, then cycled on again, giving an uneven heat. Some are noisy. All had a foul smell and I wasn't sure if they were actually fumes of fuel or what caused those smells.

In the news, I'd heard of fires from some units and didn't want any part of that, especially with kids in the house. I also worried of a very hot unit (to the touch) with kids around the unit.

We are renting at present and do not have control of the poor heating system here (and now my youngest is 11 years old and knows enough to not touch it) so I bought this space heater a month ago. Also it's important to know that often I am usually the only cold one in the family.

When I saw this I thought "space heater" it actually is a PARABOLIC electric type space heater.

PRESTO HEAT DISH PLUS throws heat only where it is directed, that's what a PARABOLIC heater does. This works best for heating one person, in my opinion. Right not it is aimed at our desk where two people are sitting about four feet apart from each other and we feel the heat more in between us (it is not reaching our left and right outside edges. Another example is it can be pointed at one person and sitting two feet away but out of the disc's direction, you can't feel the heat. It does heat objects, like the back of my desk chair and the desk.

The cons of this unit is that it sits low, it is not raised up, so it keeps your feet warmer than your hands (for example, I have a hard time getting my hands warm while using the computer keyboard but my feet and legs are very warm).

It is hard to move around, there is no handle or anything to hold onto, you have to push it by the base. It is lightweight and very tippy when you try to move it.

If you tip it while moving it, there is a loud buzz, that's a good thing.

My model does not have a night light on it, I don't need it. I don't use it while I'm sleeping.

The orange you see on the photo can only be seen when viewing from one specific angle, all the other angles will show silver when you look at it. The entire orange part in the photo is not the heated up part. It has coils inside that are hot and the dish parabolic thing helps the heat reflect out into the room. The back of the unit is very warm or a little hot but not hot enough to burn you when touching it.

Also although the general shape looks like a typical fan, this has no fan. There are no moving parts that BLOW air around. It just heats evenly and the dish reflects the heat outward into the room where the disc is pointed.

A pro is due to the design of this, it throws a lot of heat with little electricity compared to other heaters.

There is zero smell or odor of any kind (and no fumes) which is fantastic.

It is also completely silent which I love!

Again I love the even slow heat of this compared to the type that turn on and blast heat then shut off for a while and it feels cold then turn on to be too hot again.

Often I am the only cold person in the house, and I can use it to warm up while those in the same room with me are "just fine". The alternative is me over-heating the entire house just for my comfort and then having everyone else complain of being too hot. Using this is saving us money on our overall heating bill and it makes all of us happy.

I am happy with the price of this product as well.

Wow_ I love this heater! I have never seen a heater warm so well or so fast. Please keep in mind this is designed to heat a person not a space. So, to heat you up and not your room! For me this is perfect! If you are the person that is usually cold and everyone else is not but this thing! Ahhh-mazing! You can heat you and not them. My hands can be so cold I can hardly type. I get up and go get this heater out of what ever room I was last in. (It is very light weight and easy to move)I plug it in and with in one minute I am so warm I have to turn it down! I love this heater! You feel warm almost immediately, and not just if you sit right in front of it, like some reviews claimed. Actually, the parabolic dish helps spread the heat in a wide beam that heats better at a distance of, say, 10 feet than right in front of it. If you aim it towards something solid, it will also heat up the whole room fairly quickly if the room is not terribly big. I first became aware of it when my local bank had trouble with their heating system and set up 3 parabolic heaters that kept the whole cavernous room toasty.

It's also economical: It only goes up to 1,000 watts, and I find out I have to turn it down to the lowest setting after a while. The only minus, not enough to warrant loss of a ratings star, is that on the low setting it has an intermittent electronic buzz that is not very loud but can be annoying. At the high and medium settings, it's perfectly quiet, but it is so effective that I always end up turning it down.

I have one small room with a parabolic heater and another with an oil-filled heater. If I need quick heat, I use the parabolic heater. The oil-filled heater takes forever to heat up the room, going full tilt at 1,500 watts.

I've had this heater for several years now.My wife gave it to me as a present.She likes to keep our home like a meat locker at night for sleeping but i work 3 to midnight and when i get home it's sweats and this heater to keep me warm.As other reviewers stated it sends a wave of heat in the direction that you point it at, which is ok by me.I direct it towards me and i stay toasty warm.It's silent and also has a light in the base which i guess is to let you know it's plugged in.Overall i am happy with it and i'm not cold anymore after work.

I had a similar problem. I was awakened in the middle of the night by this extremely loud alarm coming from the heat dish. After reading the instructions, I discovered that it was a safety alarm which went off because too much dust had accumulated on the dish. With the unit unplugged, I stuck a damp paper towel through the screen and used a utensil to move it around and wipe up the dust. That was months ago, and I have been using it fine ever since! I love the heat dish! It produces a lot of heat with no noise and no fan and only uses a 1000 watts. What a great savings compared to other space heaters!

I have used my insulated food carrier for over 15 years, so I guess last night's explosion in my microwave can't really be considered a serious problem. In fact, I love this system and use it very often. The heated core really keeps a hot casserole hot for quite a long time. However, beware when it overheats, first the cover puffs up alarmingly. I've observed this several times in the past. Last night, however, multitasking (like getting dressed to go to the party I'd made the lasagne for) caused disaster in the form of an exploded cover. I have heated it that length of time dozens of times, but maybe the cover eventually gets weaker? At any rate, try to keep your eye on it when you are heating the core if it puffs, turn the microwave off immediately and remove the core. On the really plus side there was absolutely no mess in my oven, and I went ahead and used the heated element to keep my lasagne warm last night!

Don't mistake this 5000BTU unit for those commercial heaters mounted waaay up high throwing heat like the sun.. 1500W is 1500W. But its safer than my propane radiant heater.

I hung this up over a work bench in my unheated garage. It was 40F and I was expecting a nice warm glow.. the glow was there but the heat was barely noticeable. Initially 7 feet from the floor and angled towards me, I wound up lowering it to 6 feet. My hands got cold so I held them inches away from the element to warm them up.. it took a few moments.

Also, this unit does not include any cord or plug as described. You'll have to mount a box on the side and provide your own wiring.. I used 12 gauge to be cautious but now I see 14 gauge would have been plenty.

EDIT: After having this for a few months I like it better.. but in colder weather use it along with my propane heater. for a freezing cold garage its not adequate even when standing right underneath. But in moderate temps (45F+) it takes the bite off the cold, at least on my head and shoulders.

Not rated for indoor residential use! It is clearly marked as such once you get it, but this information needs to be shown in the listing. Also as others pointed out, it needs to be hardwired to a wall switch, or you could attached a plug, but I think a switch installed by an electrician is a good idea, perhaps with a timer. This draws significant current, and has clearance requirements because of how hot it gets so a professional installation is required unless you are confident with electricity and heat.

As a radiant heater, it is nice. It casts warmth over a wide angle and fairly long length. People need to understand these type of heaters need to get red hot to work, so they will be bright, and that they only warm things in their line of sight, like the sun or a fire. If someone walks in between you and a camp fire, you immediately lose the warmth of the fire. Likewise, these only slightly raise the air temperature in a room, but they greatly warm whatever they shine one.

As with everything, I went on a search of all mug warmers in the universe before buying this one. I found a universal complaint of ALL mug warmer reviewers (of any brand) was "doesn't get hot enough" (especially the USB models). I think the manufacturers walk a thin line between "doesn't get hot enough" and setting the house on fire.

Initially, I tried putting a cold cup of coffee upon my new Mr. Coffee and was disappointed in the warmer's ability to heat up an already cold cup of coffee. (tried both metal and ceramic mug)

The good news is that if you put a fresh hot cup of coffee right from the coffee maker onto the "burner" that it does a pretty good job in keeping it hot from that point. I review this as satisfactory performance and give extra credit for its slim and sleek design.

I bought my Mr. Coffee mug warmer locally at a store. I wasn't expecting much out of it because of the reviews about it here on Amazon, but hey it was really cheap, under ten bucks. I was pleasantly surprised at how it kept my cup of tea consistently very warm throughout the day while I'm at work. This is how hot the heating plate can get: put a drop or two of water on it, and the drops will sizzle and evaporate quickly. The key to getting the best experience out of using the Mr. Coffee mug warmer is to use with a cup of HOT tea/coffee/soup/whatever. It won't make your cold beverage hot again (use a microwave for that).

I've had it for several months now, using it daily, and it's performed very well! Here is the deal with temperatures. If you place a hot cup of tea/coffee on it, it keeps it hot! Not the burn your tongue hot. As you drink, the cup becomes less full, and actually heats the contents more. Also, I've placed a half full cup of cold coffee on it, and it heated it up to a nice warm temperature within a few minutes. The heating plate will accommodate larger coffee mugs. The only disadvantage I've noticed with it is the counter gets rather warm were it is placed, so keep flammables and paper away to be safe. Also it does not have a auto shutoff that I'm aware of, however I have it plugged into a power box with motion control, so if I leave my desk for a long period it will shut off. So if your like me and like sipping on tea or coffee at the office, with out going to refill for a hot cup every time your liquids get cold, then you'll be happy with this warmer.

A lot of reviewers have stated that this hot plate does not get warm enough to keep your coffee hot. I disagree, but also think I know why they are having that experience. How well this warmer works is extremely sensitive to the shape of your coffee mug, in particular the way that the bottom is. I did some controlled experiments to determine how much heat this warmer puts into a liquid in a cup and found as much as 30 degrees of variation between different mugs of the same or similar material.

The bottom line, is that any hotplate style coffee warmer depends on maximum surface area contact with the bottom of your mug. If you have a mug that is broad and flat at the bottom, filling the heating surface of the warmer, it will work great. If you mug is very narrow at the bottom or arches up so that only the edge is touching, the heater cannot be as effective.

You should either buy a different mug, or forego this energy wasting method altogether, in favor of a well insulated stainless steel vacuum mug like the ones from Contigo. Personally, I like the taste of coffee best out of a real mug, so I continue to use this warmer, just with a broad based mug.

I don't know why so many people have trouble with this item. My mother-in-law gave this to me well over a month ago and I think it's the greatest thing since TIVO. The key is to use a regular size cup with a flat bottom (not the ginormous ceramic cups that are more like SOUP bowls and only have a tiny bottom), and to put it on the warmer as soon as you pour the coffee into the cup. It WILL keep it not just warm, but HOT. It is 3:30 in the afternoon right now and I am still sipping on a HOT cup of coffee that I poured at 8:00 this morning. The lower the liquid gets, the hotter it gets, so be careful. I've also found that putting a piece of paper over the cup (like a piece of junk mail or an old CD case--without the CD inside, of course) will infinitely increase the heat factor, though it's not too safe and really isn't necessary (I've done it a few times when the dogs were shedding and my husband wanted the ceiling fans on didn't want dog hair in my cup, so I covered it...and it was so hot I burned my tongue.) Regardless, this item (the Mr. Coffee Mug *WARMER*) is not meant to heat up cold liquids; that's what microwaves were invented for. This is a great product when used properly and at the very least, it does what it was intended to do: keep beverages warm.

This inexpensive little personal heater has a lot of great features that you don't find with other models in the same price range. First of all, in addition to the high-low setting that most heaters have, there is also a specific thermostat setting that lets you choose amongst five different temperatures (I believe the degree choices are 60-65-70-75-80). Secondly, the heater is self-adjusting, so once the room reaches the desired temperature, the heater turns off, only to come back on if the temperature dips back down. This heater has a nice swivel feature which allows you to angle it in different directions without having to move the entire unit. Finally, it is one of the smallest, quietest, most lightweight space heaters you will find! I use it in my basement exercise room, where it works perfectly, but it would also be great for bedrooms, offices, and other small rooms. Highly recommended!!!

Best space heater ever! We bought ours in 2000 and it still going strong. Best hot air penetration into the space of any space heater we've owned. We later bought a model# HFH2986, but it's heat was not as robust as the 416.

Best Deals for Holmes HFH416-UM Swirl Grill Power Heater

On the night that the temperature dipped to 19 degrees, my furnace cut out. We were in a bind on a very cold night, so I quickly checked Lowes and compared the heaters they had to the reviews on Amazon. I needed a heater immediately so could not wait to have one sent to me. I decided to take a chance on this little heater even though, at the time, there were only two reviews on it (but each giving it five stars).

We made a trip to Lowes and came home with three of these little nuggets and I have to tell you, I was shocked at the performance. I have had much more expensive heaters that did not do the job this does. One heater will heat a small room (approximately 10X12) with no problem. I purchased three and they heated One large room and two smaller ones; all with open spaces.

The thermostats don't seem to be accurate as someone mentioned, but I didn't care, it helped me out of a bad spot, and at a bargain price. I would highly recommend this product.

I have used small heaters in my trailer for years. This is the first one that heated the entire room, quickly and quietly. Looking at the price and size of this unit, you won't expect it to work as great as it does. I am buying a second one for another room.

I just got this to replace my heater that just died. This morning a number of things struck me:

1) This model diffuses heat in a more upward direction, rather than just straight across the floor

2) I found myself switching from high to low in a relatively short period of time

3) I ended up turning this off quite a bit sooner than I would have my previous heater

4) this model is feather-light

5) on low the noise is practically neglible

To be fair to economically priced heaters, I don't think the thermostats are generally all that accurate. It is all relative; the highest settings will be the hottest, which is the important thing anyway. Also, it is key to me that the thermostat ensures that the heater will turn on and off as I am sleeping through the night. The exact temperature is hardly the point for me.

This heater has a lot of advantages. From what I saw this morning I do not expect that I will need to run it as long as I did my previous heater to take off the morning chill and to provide me with a comfortable bathroom. Therefore I have paid a bargain price and I expect that my electric bill will actually drop in comparison to when I used my previous model. By the way, my previous model cost about twice this amount.

I had wanted to get an outdoor fireplace but the pit were too bid and the table tops made me a little worried if some one woud eith knock it over or get burned so I choice this one. I looks like wood but it metal and the glass protects against people that would bump

into it by accident yet it still put out a lot of heat. the only thing is that I would have like the gel containers included with it.
