It's a bit loud and I wish there was a setting to control the amount of heat (it's either full on or off) but for the money it can't be beat. I have a 2 car garage shop and it will make the room warm within about 20 minutes.

The heater arrived in picture-perfect condition two days after I ordered it. Within five minutes, after UPS left, I had it set up and making heat. It has worked flawlessly for several days now. Starts right up every time and heats up my two-car garage in about twenty minutes. Yes, it is a little noisy, but that is characteristic of these types of heaters.

I highly recommend this heater. For the price, you can't beat it...

Bought this to heat up my garage when I need to do a project in the winter (I'm in the Northeast). Amazon had the best price prompt delivery. It does a good job(my garage is about 400 sq-ft), uses a standard 20# propane tank . Nice and compact for storage when you're not using it.

Amazing product for the price. I put this out in my garage in 30 degree weather, and I was working on my car in my t-shirt. The propane even lasts a long time, and I never even had to crack a door for air, the propane stays at the ground, and seaps out through cracks in the floor and under the garage door

Review of Swan SNCHW34050 Premium Hot Water Heavy Duty 3/4-Inch by 50-Feet

Swan SNCHW34050 Premium Hot Water Heavy Duty 3/4-Inch by 50-Feet Water Hose

I was looking for a hose mainly to hook up to a auxiliary sump pump. I saw this on the Amazon warehouse for about $20 and figured it was a better option than the cheap 5/8 inch hose I was considering. Plus, I could use this for draining my hot water heater.

There's a couple of good features to this hose. The ends are very solid brass couplers. Well-made with zero leaks. They are hefty enough that I don't anticipate any problems with them for the life of the hose. Plus, the 3/4 inch size has a noticeably greater flow than a 5/8 inch hose (especially when using it with a pump), and it comes with a life-time warranty (according to the packaging, if it breaks you need to send back the ends and they will send you a new hose).

But the hose itself is problematic with regard to kinks. It's more manageable when used with hot water, but cold water (or any outside temperature below 80 degrees) makes it very cumbersome to wind/unwind. It kinks VERY easily and the kinks are difficult to work out. The hose came with two kinks that have set themselves permanently into the hose restricting the flow, and the outer casing at the kink points is cracked. No leaks, but just a matter of time before the cracks extend further.

Even though it was so inexpensive I returned it and replaced it with a 3/4 inch Flexogen by Gilmore (got two 25 foot hoses on the Amazon Warehouse for about the same price I paid for this -$20). As usual, Amazon was a breeze to deal with regarding the return.

I'll give it two stars due to the connections and the fact that, in specialized applications, it's workable. But unless you're willing to put up with some major drawbacks, it's not worth getting even at $20, and absolutly not worth the full price.

Also, although the product info says it will handle water up to 200 degrees, the label on the hose I received says the limit is 190 degrees.

We use these hoses daily for cleanup in a food processing facility. I've found them to be very durable. They last much longer than the standard hoses found at hardware stores.

Hunter 44760 Multi-Stage Heat Pump Thermostat

I purchased this thermostat because I like the programmable setback features as well as the ability to see how long the system has ran in a given day. However, during the heating season my heat bill almost doubled. I had HVAC techs out 4 times, under warranty thankfully, to check the heat pump and they kept saying it was ok. Finally the last guy who came out determined it was the thermostat. The thermostat will run the heat pump for 15mins (this is preprogrammed and NOT changeable). If it hasn't reached its set point within that time it brings in Aux heat until it reaches its set point. When it's cold you're almost always running on Aux heat. For me that was electric and you can imagine the bills. I have since went with a thermostat that has Adaptive Intelligence (Honeywell) that will only bring in Aux heat when needed based on an internal calculation. The Adapative Intelligence thermostats will also shut off the Aux heat when it gets close enough to the set point that the thermostat knows the heat pump can do the rest. This Hunter thermostat works great for A/C, just not for heat with electric backup (Aux).

I bought this thermostat a couple of weeks ago; it has been working well so far and has plenty of bells and whistles. Installation was fairly straight-forward; the instructions were a bit unclear, but one call to their support staff took care of that problem. This unit seems pricy when compared to other thermostats, but it was the only one that I could find for a multi-state heat pump system. But since I was able to install it myself, and it has been working well since then, I'm not particularly unhappy about the price.

Bought this thermostat yesterday to replace the mundane mechanical manual one on my Ruud heat pump system. Included instructions for wiring could not have been any clearer. Programmed weekly schedule in 10 mins. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Honest reviews on Hunter 44760 Multi-Stage Heat Pump Thermostat

We got the thermostat for its programmability and the way it switches between heat and air. All those are great. BUT when the heat does run, the auxillary heat kicks on EVERY TIME. I have spent more time than I care to admit on the phone with tech support, then I found the review that explains that it is what this one does... in an electric heat pump, auxillary heat is VERY EXPENSIVE. So much for the energy star! We have purchased another...Our heat system had NEVER had its auxillary heat on in its four year life. We've replaced it and returned it. I'm watching for my electricity bill and worried...

We had previously installed a regular programmable thermostat for a standard system. Unfortunately we found out two years (too late) later that if you use a regular programmable thermostat with a heat pump system then you never actually use the heat pump in the winter you always run off of emergency heat which uses a ton of electricity and runs up the electric bill big time! We've since installed this unit and it works excellent. There are so many programmable features I don't even know where to start! This is an exceptional unit for the price you won't be dissatisfied!

I had a particular heating problem. I have a spa room built outside the house over an old cement patio about 6 feet from my back door, so it does not have access to the central heat. The room is not insulated, and has about 1/3 glass windows so I can look out into the yard while in the tub. I'm telling you all this so you will understand that the area is not easily heated. It is used for only short periods of time, so I didn't want to heat it 24/7. Without heating, the room is probably only 4 degrees warmer than the outdoor temperature.

In very cold weather, without a supplemental source of heat, I simply cannot abide undressing in 40° or less, even if the spa itself is nice and warm. So I bought a series of inexpensive heaters, none of which would do anything except heat the few feet around the heater. Then I saw the Laslo which said it had a "push" system to get the heat into the room. Having no idea what the "push" entailed, I bought it, knowing I could return this heater, as I'd done with the previous two, if it did not fill my needs. But I did not need to return it. It works for my purpose.

The unit is attractive, is tall and narrow so can fit into a small area, yet throw out heat sufficient to allow me to undress, use the spa, and re-dress in comfort. Then I turn it off. (I preheat the room easily using the digital brightly lit, large LCD thermostat which shows the ambient temperature, and moves up as the room heats. This a.m. the room started at 43° and now, after 15 minutes, it is up to 50° already. If I open the lid of the spa it will heat even more rapidly, of course). The room contains 3 exercise machines, also, so we can now exercise in comfort, as well. I have no need for the remote control which comes with the unit since I'm either in water or on a machine while using it.

I highly recommend this heater.

The heater work well in that it heats the room by several degrees (starting at 69) in just a few minutes. We used it last night for the first time in our 14'x15'x8' bedroom and after some experimentation put the thermostat at 75 degrees. The instructions say that in the automatic mode the unit will radiate heat until 77 degrees is reached and shut off at 74 degrees. It does shut off when the LED indicates the room temp. at 74 and stays on until 76 degrees (not 77). However, there is a disconnect between the digital thermometer in my room and the one on the heater. My digital thermometer indicates a low of 71.4 F. and a high of 75.4 F. I'm willing to live with that and the trick is to not be concerned about what's on the LED of the heater but what is the actual temperature of your room. I've never seen any heater's temp readout be accurate. Will exchanging it matter? I don't know, but if the room were to become too cold or hot during a given cycle I would exchange it. There seems to be no such thing as a perfect heater, so compromises need to be made. I find it confusing that there are about seven Lasko heaters within the same price range but numbered differently so I was not able to determine which one would best for my needs. I got this one because it was the only Lasko they had at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I think the heater is worth a try. The fan on high is not very loud, although you can readily hear it. I'm a light sleeper and I had no problem going to sleep with it on. It's a lot less noisy that the top-rated Vornado I own. Heaters with no fans don't distribute the heat very well so that was not an option for me; I knew there would be some noise with any fan. Would I buy this heater again? Yes, knowing what I know now, and I will follow up if my experience changes over the next several days.

This will be my 3rd winter with this heater. I live in a cabin, (yes literally a cabin), but it is insulated and is small enough that it doesn't have a furnace. I use this heater in my main living space. It stays on all winter once the temperature begins to drop below freezing and has worked really well.

Efficiency

This heater does a good job of maintaining a comfortable living temperature. I set the temperature as I would a thermostat adjusting it to around 60 when I am going to be gone a long time, and raising it when I am home. I did find that if let the ambient temperature get two low while I am away, it will take the heater a long time to warm up the entire place, so I have a second smaller space heater that I use intermittently just to offset any excessive winter chill.

Thermostat Accuracy:

The digital thermostat is fairly accurate once the heat is circulated throughout the room , however, when it first turns on there may be up to a five degree difference in temperature based on how far away you are from the heater. When I return home I usually se the thermostat a few degrees higher than my target temperature and turn it down after I have been home awhile. I have another thermostat on the opposite side of the room, as well as a ceiling fan and have found that after about 20 minutes or so the ambient temperature evens out.

Cost vs other heat sources

This heater produces a LOT of heat and so will use a lot of electricity if run continuously as I do. For comparison I had been paying hundreds of dollars to heat my apartment when I had gas but running this heater as my sole heat source (on high) will cost me between 40 and $100 per month depending on how cold it is. We had a month last year where it was regularly 14 to 30 degrees below zero for more than two weeks and this heater kept me warm, but it added about $100 to my electric bill. So if you have a primary heat source other than this one, remember to turn it down as low as possible, and to block off unused areas or you will counteract any savings this powerful little heater might provide.

Honest reviews on Lasko 5521 Ceramic Tower Heater

This ceramic space heater has two fan speeds. Both speeds are quiet considering their blowing strength. The heater can oscillate, moving about 45 angle degrees back and forth on its little lower section; this is very smooth, not jumpy like some cheap oscillating fans. The room temperature is displayed normally on a very bright LED readout that shows the set temperature once you go to set the built-in thermostat. All the buttons are easy to access and give a light beep for confirmation. You can turn oscillation on or off, set high or low fan speed, set temperature, or use an automatic shutoff timer up to 8 hours. Looks great, with a great fit and finish.

This unit is used in an uninsulated hallway to take the chill off, thaw out boots and clothes, and keep the cold draft out of the house. The heater has a small remote (line of sight only) and is programble for both high/low, rotation, temp, and timer operation or any combination there of. (yup you can run it on low setting in auto mode with the temp set)

The unit cycles to maintain a temp in auto mode by going 2 degrees over and under your set temp. So if you have it set to say 60 it will turn on at 58 and off at 62. I like this feature as it runs less overall. The rotation feature is smooth and quite, like the fan. The only loud thing on it is the thermostat, it makes an audible click like a bottle cap pop when the unit cycles on and off. Did not bother me but thought I would mention it. This thing puts out a lot of heat for its size and I was really amazed at how small it was, tucks in a corner nicely. Its perfect for an office, small bedroom (10x10), hallway or porch...

I monitored this unit with a Kill-a-watt power meter and @ .22cents per kw this unit is running about $24 per month to heat an uninsulated hallway in in old victorian home. We have it set @ 62 deg and the unit cycles on as needed. TO give you an idea its been about 25-30deg outside and the hallway befor the heater was 44 deg on average, colder overnight. So its raising the temp about 18deg for us ...huge diffrence...and worth it.

I love the heater. I have different heaters propane torpedo heaters (garage), oil and ceramic heaters with thermostat, w/o thermostat and digital. We have them all!

This heater does an excellent job! I have one for one of my clients because it can be very cold in the summer months. I can direct the heat. (I hocked this from the great room. I am buying another one.) The passive, space heater takes too long. The heat rises and the ceiling fans have to redirect the heat downward. Otherwise the air at the ceiling needs to get warm first and work its way down. (I have 12 foot ceilings in that room.) With this heater, the heat is directed at the couches while we watch TV.

One problem: the circuit breaker will trip with 2 heaters. If we want 2 heaters, we have to run only run or run an extension cord from another outlet on a different circuit.

One benefit: The settings knob goes from off, fan, low and high. The fan setting is to cool the heating element before turning unit off.

NOTE: The bedrooms have oil heaters with a thermostat. The temperature is different in each room depending on the child. The hallway bath has one also with an "agreed upon" temperature. In the master bedroom, the oil heater is on a timer since my wife and I work. It comes on between 5:30 and 6:30 and also between 7:30 and 8:30. We may get this heater in the master bedroom to this heater and direct it at the shower stall.

The unit sat in my garage for over a year (warranty period exceeded). First use was great. Went to use about a week later and there was no fan or heater. Called Nesco. No warranty coverage, which technically and legally is certainly their right. I was given phone number of repair center.

Called repair center, they immediately (immediately) stated the problem was a blown fuse which they would send me for $8. With the warning the fuse was soldered onto the board.

I cut the fuse off, used some clips to attach the new fuse, and the unit works. The design looks flakey; the fuse is directly above the heating elements so it is not only dealing with the current, but also the heat of the unit. Given how quickly they 'diagnosed' the problem and what appears to be a marginal design I am very surprised there are not more failures documented in the reviews.

I bought this to replace my original American Harvest FD-1000. It lasted 15 years and dried at least 2 tons of fruits and vegetables. This newer model FD-1010 has a more powerful fan and dries faster than the original. The review that complains about dripping into the base is not using the dehydrator properly. This unit comes with a solid fruit roll sheet. Put it on an empty tray in the bottom of the stack and it will catch the drips. Also the clean a screens are essential for sticky stuff like tomatoes and grapes. You lift the screen from the tray, give it a twist and the fruit comes off easily. I have the trays and extra screens from the old unit so I can stack them 15 high. Not sure about claims with 30 trays as that seems quite unwieldy. Did a full load of pears last night, tomatoes the previous night and a lot more harvest to go this year.

I've had this Holmes heater for over 5 years. I rely on it during winter months for heating my master bedroom, which measures about 13' x 15'.

As with a lot of heaters, this unit may give off an offensive smell initially If you run it for a few hours in a well ventilated area, the smell should gradually diminish and eventually cease.

The heater has 2 heat settings. Amazingly, it's able to heat up my entire bedroom at the high setting. I don't have the manual anymore, but if my memory serves me, the lower setting is 750 W and the higher setting is 1500 W. The lower setting is ideal for for providing you with localized warmth where you need it most. Although the fan isn't very strong, it does an adequate job of dispersing the heat. In freezing temperatures, it takes the unit anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to warm up an average-sized room.

The thermostat is somewhat fickle and doesn't regulate the temperature very consistently -that's to be expected from analog thermostats on portable units like this one. I usually leave it on for extended periods anyway, and if it gets too warm, I simply turn it off.

The heater is lightweight and portable, so you can easily take it with you from room to room.

---

The Holmes Compact Ceramic Heater is very well-constructed and durable. It may compact but it's powerful enough to warm up a good-sized room. If you need a portable heater, I'd definitely recommended this one.

[Update 2013-04-28]

The heater finally conked out a couple of months ago. There was a loud pop and a puff of smoke when I turned it on -the unit had shorted out. I've had a good run with it (almost 8 years), so I have no complaints! My next heater will undoubtedly be a Holmes!

I bought this heater from a local hardware store and have been very happy with it even as I unpacked it and found that it was packed with recyclable pressed paper inserts instead of nasty ol' Styrofoam. The heater works wonderfully and even on the lowest setting in my old, drafty house keeps me quite toasty as I work at my desk. I like that it is very small and easily portable and will pack up and store quite nicely in the warmer months. It puts out as much heat as my big ol' "Milk barn" heater and seems to be more stable... tho the milk barn heater will shut off if it tips and this Holmes model will not... which is the only thing I don't particularly like about the unit... but it sits low and quite stable so hopefully that will never be a problem.

Best Deals for Holmes HCH4051 Compact Ceramic 1500 Watts Heater with Thermostat

I bought this heater for use at my office (under my desk) because it is usually freezing there. This little heater has saved my life. I no longer have to wear a coat while at work. My coworkers have even asked where I got it because they're freezing too and want to get one.

It has 2 dials: one for selecting fan (with no heat), fan (with heat), and stronger fan (with heat); the other dial is for controlling the temperature. I usually set the first dial on fan with heat, and the temperature dial between the first and second mark (it has 5), and that is more than enough for heating my whole cubicle.

Honest reviews on Holmes HCH4051 Compact Ceramic 1500 Watts Heater with Thermostat

Although this heater may be small (about 6 in. wide, 6 in. long, and 7 in. tall), it does the job well. The strongest fan/heat setting gets really hot within seconds, and is great for a small to medium sized room. Sometimes, I even feel that it gets too warm and have to turn it down to the lowest fan setting. For the price, I think it's an excellent heater.

Been using this space heater in my home for about three years, now, and it's a great little product. We use this, primarily, in my family room, which is set lower than the rest of the house and rests on a concrete slab. The room is about 20x14 ft in area, and is on a corner of the house that gets a lot of wind and weather. Consequently, it's always the coldest room in the house. Sure, it has a wood-burning fireplace, but the thing is so old and dirty that we just really don't want to use it. This little space heater is a great substitute, and far less work! Plug this thing in, turn it on, and in about 30 minutes the room is very comfortable. Occasionally I'll sleep down in that room on a couch or in the lazy boy (if my back is hurting), and when I have this heater running, I'm pretty comfortable with just a single fleece blanket over me.

If you're like me and try to save on home heating costs by keeping your thermostat turned down low, this little space heater is a good investment. Sometimes you just would like the bathroom warmed up before a shower or want a single room warmer while you're eating a meal or watching a TV show. A little space heater like this is perfect for heating your small space of occupancy, rather than the whole home.
