Cheap Ace Hardware- Pro Com Ml100hpa Two Plaque Lp Gas Wall Heater
I think I would have been happy, if they had said this does not work over 4500 feet, but they didn't.... I purchased it, then found out that you need a "dual regulator", "100 pound propane bottle", etc. then after all that expense and it still wouldn't work, they asked my husband, "What is your altitude?" and found out that if you are over 4500 feet it doesn't work at all!!!! So now I am having to send it back, but they are paying for the shipping, but it took almost two weeks to get it in the first place, so how long before I get my money back?????

Presto HeatDish Parabolic Electric Space Heater Plus Footlight Review
I purchased the Costco version of this Presto heater and LOVE IT, but it's critically important to know what you're getting into:
Infrared radiant heat from these parabolic dish heaters does NOT heat ROOM AIR much at all! It heats primarily water, things saturated with water (like we Humans), and coincidentally many Plastics---all assuming a narrow infrared focus range peaking at 3 microns (3000nm wavelength). Even longer wavelengths (3-10 microns) are possible but less specifically-aimed at human bodies and thus put heat into nearby concrete, wood floors, people, and most other materials, including many metals.
*Directional Infrared Heat* (i.e., focused Radiant Heat from these dish heaters) is VERY EFFICIENT if your goal is to put all/most of the heater's energy into YOU and not into a large room's air (or outdoor air).
BUT, this means you have to stand IN FRONT of the heater :) Otherwise, you'll barely notice much heat at all (just the small fraction of heat that escapes via convection into the air, or the wavelength falloff range that extends sufficiently to radiantly heat concrete, wood, rocks, plastics, metals, etc.
IF you use regular forced-air heaters (often the same tungsten filaments found in cheaper radiant dish heaters, nearly all quartz heaters, and heat lamps) you'll be heating most everything via convection through the air which means the larger the room and more objects to heat the more the heater's energy must be divided. That is, 500 watts of directional radiant heat will feel MUCH hotter to someone standing in front of the parabolic dish heater than would standing in front of a forced-air 500 watt heater due to air turbulence and molecules that don't have the opportunity to conduct by colliding into you (think of convection as touch-conduction in a fluid medium where each molecule of air/water/fluid is an individual messenger or heat carrier that drops off/transfers some heat to each thing it bumps into). However, you needn't stand in front of a forced-air heater vs a dish radiant one, but if you don't then the same watt forced-air heater will take a loooong time before you start feeling warm.
Most Metals Reflect Infrared wavelengths similar to a household mirror, which is why a parabolic dish heater's thin metal dish won't feel hot on its backside unless ran for extended lengths of time where convection and the non-100% infrared reflectivity efficiency losses have time to heat it (pure elemental gold metal reflects infrared best at around 95% and is why applied to backside of expensive quartz filament bulbs :)
The BEST filaments for radiant heating of water/humans are the pricier carbon filaments. They have near instant-on heat and generally peak closest to our target 3000nm wavelength we humans like to feel when we stand out in the sunlight warmth. I've not checked whether or not these dishes use carbon vs tungsten, but looks like decent tungsten upon casual inspection.
FYI: Old "radiant" steam heaters are a misnomer since they primarily heat the air by creating a natural heat-rise current in the air (aka: convection heating). Incidentally, this is the same reason why the gap size between double-glass insulating windows is so important since otherwise those windows become mini-convection heat-loss/heat-transfer panels in your wall :)
Try this at home: hold a piece of UNCOATED/UNPAINTED metal in front of a true parabolic dish heater with tongs/whatever such your hand doesnt heat the metal, and at same time place your bare hand at the same safe distance beside it and observe which heats up. Result: metal has barely warmed at all whereas your hand gets toasty fast and if too close even starts to get too hot feeling. If the metal is flat think of it as a mirror---you can make some of the heater's heat "turn a 90-degree corner" like using a mirror but to heat.
Plastics & Radiant Heater CAUTION: Some plastics like common polyethylenes coincidentally absorb infrared radiation optimally at 3500nm (3.5 micron wavelengths) which is near that of water's 3000nm. This means many plastics will absorb and heat as fast as you will in front of heaters like these, which weakens/ages them by fracturing polymer chains.
Finally, for those curious about what differentiates this type of 'radiation' from 'nuclear radiation', remember that any lightbulb (LED, CFL, FL, Incandescent), radiant heater, all radio and TV signals, lasers, x-rays, and of course sunshine is ALL electromagnetic radiation (EM) delivered by way of photons and it is the EM wavelength (energy per photon rather than number of photons) that determines whether the radiation is 'scary'. Scary or bad EM usually means ionizing radiation like UV, x-ray, or worse) whereas non-ionizing EM includes all visible light, infrared, TV/radio, microwaves, etc. Note, however, that right at the border of deep violet visible light and UVB/UVC ultraviolet is non-ioninizing UVA/violets now thought the principle cause of the deadliest melanoma skin cancers fueled by indirect DNA damage of free radicals generated by UVA/violets EM energy and catalysts (such as, ironically, non-metals-based suntan lotion as well as other naturally-occurring compounds in our tissues). Once you get into regular visible light and longer wavelengths (radio, microwaves, etc.) most people believe to be safe as the energy per photon falls to such low levels. Nuclear radiation, on the other hand, is entirely different yet and deals with non-EM particle radiation (e.g., stray neutron bombardment) which is extra 'scary' of course and not found in our heaters or lights LOL (unless you bought a second-hand looted chernobyl-irradiated heater I suppose).
Hope that helps. :-)
Like one of the other reviewers, I bought this at CostCo but for some friends who smoked on their patio and froze during the winter. They've both passed on now and their relatives gave it back to me. (I also have one in my shop.)
Our furnace is out at the moment and it is doubtful we can afford to fix it before winter is over. Here in Las Vegas it is currently 41 outside with an expected low tonight of 29. Last night it was 21.
I'm sitting here writing this with this heater about six feet from me and on medium. I'm comfortable (and shirtless) even though it is only in the low 60s in the house. (We have a couple of oil filled heaters.) My right side (heater side) is hot to the touch, my left side is cool. Over all though, I'm comfortable.
Where this unit excels is in my shop which is basically a walled in carport, but walled in by louvers. I.E. it's 41 in my shop. But I just aim this at my workbench from about six feet away and stay toasty while there at the bench.
My wife is a lizard. Very cold blooded and is always cold if the room temp is below 80. All I have to do is aim this at her on the couch and she's warm and toasty without driving me out of the room.
If you use these types of heaters as intended, they are more than enough to cook you.
The one thing I really like about these is that at full power, they only consume 1,000 watts. Our oil filled and ceramic/quartz heaters start at 900 watts on low and go up to 1,500 watts. That will run up the electric bill (about $100 a month per heater) and two of them on the same circuit will blow our circuit breakers. So using these radiant dish heaters as spot heaters do a better job for less money.
The footlight is pointless and stop working after a year. One of the Costco reviewers had this to say: "Owned a few of these and the experience is the same and matching quite a few others here. This is an effective, LIMITED LIFE, product. It does what it says sends a very nice stream of heat in a very limited direction. BUT it has a limited life span of 1-3 years, depending on use and luck.
The problem always seems to come down to a faulty "tip" sensor, so that the "alarm feature" meant to warn you that the device has fallen off its perch goes off continuously, rendering the device useless. Clearly Presto has skimped on parts there and has little interest in correcting this as evidenced by user reports of this problem going back years... .
Note to Presto spend a few more pennies on parts and design improvement, and a few less on the marketing required to re-package the exact same thing every year and you have a winner here. As is however, strcitly, buyer beware."
I couldn't agree more.
So ignoring it's lifespan issues, I have exactly two complaints:
1) Very limited ability to direct the heat the heat dish has a fixed angle and elevation, so if you want to prop this up and have it warm you while you're sleeping, you can't. So it pretty much only works if you're directly in the beams path.
2) No incremental heat the dial on top of the heat dish appears to have gradual levels of heat. This is an illusion. The dish actually has 4 modes: off, low, medium, and hot. Low is unusable because you have to be hugging the dish to get any heat. Medium is the only usable one, although you have to move the dish around every few minutes to avoid burning any one part of your body. Finally Hot is only useful if you're interested in setting your house on fire. Realistically, it's only useful at great distances and very short periods of time, otherwise you will actually burn your legs and face.
Some positive aspects include the really good range, and its ability to get hot fairly quickly. Overall, I felt the heat dish was very useful and worth the money, but my two complaints prevent it from being a great product.
As a side note, this heat dish (even in Medium mode) will probably literally set fire to leather, so keep that in mind if you planned to use the heat dish near a leather office chair.

This is a radiant heater, designed to throw a "beam of heat". As a science teacher explained in junior high some 40 years ago, they do not heat the air or a room, but the objects in the path. If you are looking to warm a room, especially quickly, you want a forced air ceramic/quartz heater. If you want to warm yourself in an otherwise cold room, this is your baby. Sadly, almost every time I go to CostCo, I see someone returning one of these. Reading reviews of similar products on the web, it is clear that many folks have no clue about radiant heaters.Like one of the other reviewers, I bought this at CostCo but for some friends who smoked on their patio and froze during the winter. They've both passed on now and their relatives gave it back to me. (I also have one in my shop.)

I owned this for about 3 years before it died. Purchased from Costco (there are more reviews on there). It gives off a tremendous amount of heat in a limited space of 3 feet but that's it.The footlight is pointless and stop working after a year. Honest reviews on Presto HeatDish Parabolic Electric Space Heater Plus Footlight
We purchased this two years ago for use primarily in the office, which happens to be one of our cooler rooms. It works very well for this. It is plugged in on the opposite wall and directed towards the desk which is approximately 8/10 feet away. You must remember it heats objects in the room not necessarily the room. If you are sitting/working at the same place it will keep you very comfortable. It makes a small hum when it comes on but not annoying. We have two other older coil type space heaters and an infra ray one. They all use more electricity than this one--1000w vs 1500w or 2000w. However, they do heat an area and not an object. So it depends on what your needs are: moving around more, space heaters might be better. In the same area most of the time, then the Parabolic would be my choice. It has three heat levels and off which gives a very good temperature range. It has a night light that I feel is not needed but it is only a 1.5 v bulb. I guess the only thing I sometimes think would be nice is if it was oscillating. This is the second winter and so far so good.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Presto HeatDish Parabolic Electric Space Heater Plus Footlight
Like many of the other users on here, I purchased this from Costco. I bought it about 2 years ago and just recently caught the first sign of its imminent demise, the footlight has stopped working and the buzzer started malfunctioning. Based on other comments I've read, it appears this is fairly common, so you should know that this product seems to have a ~2 year lifespan. Not bad, not great. So ignoring it's lifespan issues, I have exactly two complaints:

This heater is just awesome. We are total electric and this infrared heater makes the rooms so much warmer without taking the humidity out of the air. This is our second purchase of a LifeSmart heater, and I would honestly not buy another brand. We don't use our baseboard electric at all now. We have had our first one for 2 years, which we now put upstairs, and just purchased this one last month. It's stylish, looks excellent in our living room, and the flames seem so real.
I would highly recommend to anyone that wants even, cozy heating from floor to ceiling.

This is a great heater and very realistic. Here's why I gave it 4 stars: If you have high ceilings you have to be fairly close to it to feel the heat and its kind of short (might me a good thing so it won't tip over), cord is short. You cannot plug this in to anything but the wall and I wish the cord was longer. The pluses are this heater is cool to the touch, very pretty and moves around easily over burber carpet and floor. The flame is very realistic.Best Deals for Lifesmart 1000 Square Foot Infrared Quartz Fireplace in Quakerstown
With so many choices out there for indoor fireplaces, I researched thoroughly for one that would meet my needs and the Lifesmart 1000 Infrared is it. It was exactly the size I needed and provides just the right amount of heat with the blower and adjustable thermostat. Despite the heat that it supplies, the sides of the fireplace do NOT feel hot to the touch even after running for hours. I love the way it looks, too. To make the illusion more realistic for me, I purchased two wood-scented candles that "crackle" a bit. For me, it is the perfect accent in my living room.Honest reviews on Lifesmart 1000 Square Foot Infrared Quartz Fireplace in Quakerstown
This is same item we bought at one of the large discount clubs. At he same time, we bought another larger (1500 watts) from Amazon. (Duraflame) I wish we'd seen this on Amazon. This is the better unit, by far. Better price, too. The fire is more realistic and larger, though cabinet size is similar. Now, no artificial fireplace is going to look like our real fireplace, but this brings heat and charm to cold areas. Though I have searched, I don't understand the infrared exactly. But I do know it works. It gently and quickly warms up the room. You don't roast if you are standing near it but you can feel the warmth. The thermostat is accurate. The remote is a nice touch. It is sturdy. No wheels have fallen off this unit as it did with Duraflame. Product info book is all English. Somebody mentioned it has to be plugged into wall, not extension cord. ??? Ours is plugged into surge protector power strip. No problems. We liked this better than the Duraflame. And when we bought, (Nov 2012) this one was $100 less.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Lifesmart 1000 Square Foot Infrared Quartz Fireplace in Quakerstown
Love this electric fireplace! I was skeptical at 1st, thinking no way will this heat up our huge family room, which is well over 700sqft, but it did and more. Seems to even leak into the kitchen, which is fine by us. Without this heater our room is beyond cold, almost freezing! With this, plug in and give about a good 30 minutes according to size of room and enjoy the heat! Also love the display, which IMO looks incredibly life like. Also we lose power a lot and has yet to blow an internal fuse, which is welcomed as the other one this one replaced, did it once and was worthless. Amazon took it back, no issues and we now reap the benefits of this powerhouse. If any downside.... It's a good size. Then again if claiming these #'s, needs to be. If looking into this particular heater and not sure, trust me, it's been a life saver for our family of 6!Wednesday, July 23, 2014

this little thing works great for my room and the best part is the auto shut off when it gets to hot, plus theres a safety button on the bottom so if you pick it up or it falls over it will shut off automatically.
It is a light unit made of all cheap looking plastic. It has a anti-tilt feature which is nice. As a heat unit, this is probably good for supplement heat for a room at is already warm but wouldn't help much if it was a cold room.

This little thing hold the temperature well. We are picky about the way we make our coffee and teas and temperature control on this baby is one thing we don't have to fuss over, especially early in the morning. In our opinion, this little gem has water ready to go at any moment whenever a caffeine fix is in order is priceless. We had larger models in the past and they all worked flawlessly. We like this smaller version so much we will get a second one for office.
Pair this up with a nice french/tea press and you are set!
*Took away one star for pricing, comparing it to larger siblings, this thing should be priced around $100 in our opinion.
I own several Zojirushi products and am please with all.
Have a happy tea day

For a long time I tried to find a way to get hot water without scum taste. I tried various kettles and water boiling devices all produced a water with bad scum taste aftera while. Zojirushi devices (I own two of them, different models, one is used at home, another at work) are excellent. Although there is an instruction of how to clean them using citric acid, there was no need to do it for last 6 months or so I use them every day. It also unbelievable convenient to have a hot water ready for tea at any moment. Or am I just getting lazy?Best Deals for Zojirushi CD-JUC22FS Micom 2.2-Liter Water Boiler and Warmer

Discount Bionaire Pure Indoor Living Low Profile Room Heater
Bought this heater at Costco last weekend. It's a great design, nicely made, and the remote is a very nice feature. It's about 28" long, and made of good quality matte-finish black plastic, with a black metal grill (the casing stays cool, but the grill gets pretty hot). It's lightweight and easy to move around. The fan is so quiet you can't hear it at all, even at the highest heat setting. There is a red light on the front that is on whenever the heater is connected to power; the control panel on the top has a main power button, a five-level thermostat setting (65-70-75-80-85) with red indicator light for each choice, and a 3-setting automatic-off timer (4, 8 and 12 hours). There is a separate button to activate the 'Eco-Smart' feature, which supposedly cycles the heater somehow to make it more efficient (I have no idea how to tell if it is more economical or not, but it does put out less heat with this setting turned on.)
I bought this heater to use in the office corner of a larger room, so I don't need a blast furnace, but it's not the kind of heater you can put in a cold room and expect it to warm up immediately. Even on the 'Eco-Smart' setting, it does a fair job of heating the immediate area, but it doesn't broadcast the heat very far from the source on ANY of the settings. I'd recommend this heater for a small room (bathroom, den or small bedroom). I wouldn't consider using it in a larger area, such as a family room or living room, and I'd also avoid it in rooms with especially high ceilings, because with this heater, the warmed air tends to rise straight up rather than spread out horizontally.
All in all, not a bad heater, just not a very quick one.
Note added November 19: This original post included review of the remote control which came with my unit from Costco ($45) but another reviewer noted this Amazon unit does not come with a remote. I've revised my review, but I apologize if I misled earlier readers with my error.

I read the previous reviews and was hesitant to buy this but my wife decided to try it. Agree w the ?transformer noice which is very quiet though. Disagree that it's slow. We heat up our master bedroom which is 15x15 and takes very short time to make it comfortable. Typically all we need is to go from 69 deg to say 74 which takes no time and makes the room quite pleasant.Best Deals for Bionaire Pure Indoor Living Low Profile Room Heater
This heater was in use for only 1 month but then broke. It stopped making any heat although all buttons and lights work normally. Even though it has warranty I did not want to ship it back and pay shipping and wait weeks till they fix it. So I opened it up myself and fixed it. As it turned out the problem was a faulty over temperature protection switch. The switch is supposed to be normally closed providing current to the heat element but in my case it was always open so the element never gets hot. Took me a few hours to fix it but now it works again. In addition to over temperature protection this heater also has tip over protection which works without any trouble on my unit. It turns OFF immediately after you accidentally tip it over. Other reviewer is wrong about saying that the fan is quiet. This heater does not have any fan at all. Also, another reviewer mentioned how noisy it is because of transformer. There is no transformer inside. The buzz comes from the heat element. When it gets hot it vibrates slightly. The element is attached to the side walls by only two screws, one on each side. As I had to open it, I know how cheaply it is made inside.Honest reviews on Bionaire Pure Indoor Living Low Profile Room Heater
I bought this at Costco for 45 bucks and did not expect a lot. It keeps my living room and open kitchen and dining area comfortable (about 700 square feet). Outside the temperature was 32 Fahrenheit. Our house is well insulated and I use insulated curtains (except for the kitchen window ) and It got the temperature up to 68 and for faster heating I turned my infrared heater on at the beginning for about 20 minutes, and the temperature increased to 72. Obviously gas is cheaper, but we are on propane, haven't received my electric bill yet, but I am very comfortable. All with all I like this heater. Its not a fast heater, so during the night I get up at 3:00 am to turn it on and it is ready by about 6:00 a.m.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Bionaire Pure Indoor Living Low Profile Room Heater
I found that it heats up more quickly than my other electric oil filled convection heater, but I can definitely hear a very audible transformer noise that isn't present with my other heater. I got mine at Costco... disappointed, but it's probably going back.Thursday, April 10, 2014

What a great option for people who can't afford to tear their house apart to install a real fireplace. It looks extremely nice and gives off a wonderful amount of heat. It also crackles to add to the realism of the fireplace. I'm very happy with it!

We just had a newborn and in need a water heater so we can have access to boiled water 24/7. Those 1.5 Liter water kettles can not keep up with the workload, 4 Liter is the perfect capacity. We can not use our Zojirushi because of the chemical coatings on the interior. We do not want to take any risk, the interior has to be stainless steel, absolutely no plastic.
We are glad we purchased this water heater. The interior pot is made of stainless steel. There is a night light under the sprout turns on when the water dispense is unlocked. The light illuminates the area right under the sprout, it is so convenient for us to prepare formula in the night without turning on all the lights. The night light also tells you approximately where the water will be dispensed at.
The other feature I really like is the 3D dispense button. The dispense button is big with chrome finish. My old zojirushi dispense button is one layer of PVC plastic that close to wearing out after a few years. The 3D dispense button on this secura water heater is easy to access and hard to miss.
The water dispense starts slow and after a few seconds the flow volume increases, so the water does not splash out. Another very nice feature that we really love.
First, this has a lot more features than my previous model the Sunpentown 3 Litre Hot Pot. This model has a choice of temperatures (from 208 to 194 to 175F.) There is a dispensing lock. When unlocked, an orange light is lit and not only is the light indicating you can dispense water, but it lights up underneath as well. I noticed when I was filling my teapot, it made it easier to see the water level in the pot.
There is a gauge to show water level and a beep tells you that water has reached temperature. The dispensing button itself is a hefty wide lever on the top, not a button under a membrane. Already, I'm liking this model a whole lot more than my previous one, and the price is about the same. The inside is stainless steel and the capacity is 4 liters or about a gallon. So it does take longer to heat up than the 3 liter model I had before.
There are two speeds for dispensing, which you can choose underneath. The unit will automatically shut off if there is insufficient water inside. And there is a descaling cycle. The outside is warm, insulated from the inside. It is not cold, but is pleasantly warm and you can touch it while the pot is on.
That's a lot of features and so far, I'm very pleased. It is superior to my old one and it's nice to have a supply of hot water for tea all evening and weekend long.
The interior is all stainless steel which is the reason I bought this one. However, after a week of boiling and cleaning, I could still taste plastic in the water. So I dissembler it to investigate. It turned out the problem is with the lid. The hot steam gets into the lid and then condenses inside the lid. The inside of the lid is made of plastic parts; only the part you can see is made of stainless steel. The steam condenses on the plastic and then back-flows into the pot and therefore contaminating the water.
You see, I live in Denver, the "Mile High" city. I realize many things I purchase; cake mixes mostly, have directions for high altitude cooking that I usually ignore. They turn out fine anyway. But an air pot is different than a cake. It does only one thing. It boils water then keeps it warm. Here water boils at about 202*, 10* less than sea level.
Most air pots come from Japan which is most definitely sea level.
The first air pot NEVER stopped boiling. It was desperately attempting to reach 212*F and all it was succeeding at was adding moisture to our air, which admittedly we need but not what I bought it for. I returned it with disappointment and spent the time awaiting my refund looking at other air pots.
I believed, during that time, I was going to be stuck ordering the Zojirushi at twice the price because it was the same one as my mother in law's, the person who showed me how wonderful air pots are. Then I came across this. It was much less expensive so, with Amazon's return policy having worked out well once, I thought I would give it a try. It arrived, I filled it up, set it to 194* though the box proclaimed it boiled water to 212*, and then waited for all the water to boil away once again. The water came to a boil and I walked away. It was going to take a long time to boil away 4L of water, but to my surprise it beeped a short time later! My water was boiled and not being held at 194*. I emptied it, filled it again and got the same result, plus it had gone through the recommended couple of boils to clean it out.
It has been only five days but the family is in love. There are three ways to dispense; a button on top, a manual pump, and the convenient little cup button underneath. And the light is a nice touch and a big, orange light lets you know when it is unlock for dispensing and it doesn't stay unlocked for too long; excellent when there are little button pushers running around the house. It also seems to be keeping the water at a consistent temperature, but I will have to simply trust it on that as my candy thermometer claims it being kept at 238*F. I think I can safely assume that that needs replaced (and would explain why my last batch of fudge turned out so horribly).
Condensed version of this; great air pot, highly recommended!

My previous hot water pot suddenly gave up the ghost; its pump simply died. That was annoying, it would heat up just fine, but no way to dispense the water save ladling it out with a soup ladle. We did get about five years of constant use but I was not going to buy the same brand. After a lot of research, I could find complaints on any brand but this one seemed to have a lot of features and no bad reviews (so far.) I got the stainless and white model; it also has a black version.First, this has a lot more features than my previous model the Sunpentown 3 Litre Hot Pot. This is an amazing water boiler, my old boiler is still working but the Teflon coating on the inner pot starts to come off. May be I did not clean the pot as often as should. I got this boiler with stainless steel, hopefully I do not have to worry about the issues with coatings. So far it has been great, I like the thermostat settings. It boils water to 212 degree and keeps boiling for a few minutes to kills all the germs and softens water. And you can choose to keep warm at 208, 194, 175 degree, and you can set it to auto cool which does not use electric to keep warm. If you do not care about the water temperature like us, choose auto cool. It saves energy and water still keeps warm all day.Honest reviews on Secura 4-Quart Electric Water Boiler and Warmer AirPot, 18/10

Best Duraflame Stove Heater, Black, DFS-550-0 Deals
The reason I got this fireplace was because it looks pretty good. We just had a spa set up in the basement. So we thought it may be a good display. Plus, the price is very good. So we decided to get one. The heater looks GREAT and fits right in our spa. And it is very warm. It does heat up the whole room. Our basement is approximately 400 square feet. And this little thing does its job. I ended up buying another two more. Now, I have two in the spa and one in our entertainment room. I highly highly recommend it. I am very very happy with this product. It looks elegant. And it is very sturdy. You can put miscellaneous items on it because the top is not hot. I only put a plant on it to keep the simple look. The top is not hot at all because heat comes out from the bottom. Trust me, I don't usually write reviews, but this is one of the best products I have ever purchased. One thing is I see this product in BJs at a lower price. The model # at BJs is a little different. The one from Amazon is DFS-550-0. The one from BJs is DFS-550-22. They sell it for $85. I tried to find this DFS-550-22 on-line, but not able to find it. So I THINK it may be discontinued already. So, whoever is interested in a fireplace, you may want to also check out the one in BJs. Not sure whether they are the same or not.
Appearance: It is an attractive design, mostly metal, with some plastic. There are 5 flame brightness options. At the highest setting the flames look very cheesy, but we enjoy the warm glow at a 2 or 3 level. The digital function display only lights up when you are powering the unit on, or adjusting a setting.
Cons: The metal frame is thin. The 'stove lid' above the heater causes a rattling sound. We added a little weight with a faux candle holder and river rock display, and that helps the noise. The rattling isn't bothersome with the tv on, but is a little distracting while reading.

Performance: Heats a 350 sq/ft, 3 room travel trailer in about an hour. The thermostat is excellent and functions like a furnace. The fan is a very quiet hum. We left it running for 8 hours straight; the top was warm, but the rest of the unit stays cool. Only the grate in front of the heating element gets hot. When it reaches the desired temperature, it makes a series of clicking noises, and then the heating element (red light) shuts off followed by the fan. The remote control works great.Appearance: It is an attractive design, mostly metal, with some plastic. There are 5 flame brightness options. Ok, yes I live in Texas and sometimes it DOES get cold here. I bought this so I wouldn't have to keep the fireplace going all the time. It's really cute and it keeps our 14x20 room very comfortable.Saturday, February 1, 2014

Purchased several months ago, plastic smell as described, didn't last long.
Has been great so far. I would purchase again if needed.
Update... the smell did not last long.. is meant for the mattress I purchased, not this item. My apologies! This liner is a quality liner! When I need another I WILL purchase the same brand. :-)This was a good liner, however it was not as thick as I thought it weould be. I had ordered the King Size and it seemed to be a Higher Quality. However this liner was 8" tall and good I was satisifed with it.

Used for 2 years in garage during winter months and it burnt out the motor in the beginning of the third year. Besides being very noisy it didn't heat all that well without being turned on all the time so the electric bill went way up.Love this product. It does the job. It really heats a room. The only drawback is you need a lot of power to make certain it doesn't flow a fuse.
