I installed this in the living room of my 5th wheel trailer. We rarely see temps below freezing, so this does a nice job of keeping my trailer toasty. The all steel construction is much better than the plastic De Longhi that it replaced. I have it wall mounted, so I can't comment on the wheels.
RV's do not have unlimited current available, so the ability to run this on 5, 10 or 15 amps is very useful.
Expensive, but worth it. The steel case can be opened, it therefore can be repaired.

Buy Frigidaire FRA103CW1 10,000 BTU 115-Volt Window-Mounted Compact Air
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program First, I should mention that I own two other very similar units; this is a slight step down from one and a step up from another. Living in Florida, we are prone to hurricanes and extended power outages. A few years ago, we had 3 storms blow through in 4 weeks and went 10 days without power. It was hot, humid and oh so very uncomfortable. I decided to purchase a small Frigidaire window AC that could easily run on a generator to at least help get some sleep at night. It worked so well we purchased a second unit (larger) to place in the bedroom at night in order to keep the room at my comfortable 64 without having to use the central AC for the entire house. We live in an area of extremely high electric bills...some of the highest in the nation...so cooling only one room versus the entire house paid for itself almost immediately. I was hooked! Our current one, very similar to this model, has now been in use daily for at least 6 hours each evening for several years and performs admirably.
This model is almost exactly the same as the one we currently own except it is not energy star rated and actually seems a bit more powerful despite the fact it's rated at 10,000 BTU. Installation is very easy; you will want to add something to the typical side panels which are as flimsy as ever. The remote is a very nice addition and item we use constantly. The ability to set the temperature, time etc is great. The new sleep feature is a GREAT addition as it continues to lower the temperature allowing for comfort while waking and sleeping. For those of you who tend to wake up at 3 am...try reducing the temperature at 2 am...researchers have found this to be a natural way of combating many sleep problems associated with hormones and sleep cycles.
This unit does a great job cooling down a single room (advertises 500 square ft) even in the hot humidity of Florida. It's a bit loud you will want to place it outside of the talking zone and away from the television etc..having said that, although a bit on the loud side, it's a constant sound and not annoying. No rattles or hissing...just a steady but loud hum.
One problem with this current model is the packaging; everything is boxed and protected EXCEPT the front panel! Ours arrived damaged; since this was a Vine product we did not return it but it should be noted, packaging makes no sense whatsoever. The front panel is flimsy and prone to damage especially without adequate protection which this lacks. Since the front panel is so visible, this is a major flaw and one likely to result in substantial returns despite the fact that the unit works great...it will just look awful. Why this oversight is beyond me; everything else in the box including the power cord was protected, wrapped and looked able to withstand nearly anything. Very odd.
Aside from the packing problem, these are little work horse units that can save a substantial sum of money over cooling an entire house especially in high heat areas like Florida. This has a cool or fan feature and will definitely keep a set temperature. I like to set it at 64 and it tends to fluctuate a couple degrees as the condenser kicks in and goes up/down but otherwise, does the job. Has an easy to clean filter, nice little remote control, easy installation which you will want to enhance for both safety and security but otherwise, plan on an hour to take out of the box and have running.
So, positives: great price, cools well, nice remote, easy installation, digital read-out, thermostat, presets, versatile and saves money on the electric bill. Also fantastic solution for back-up to whole house AC during storms, outages, other events.

The full function remote is a sweet, sweet addition and honestly if you think you'd never use it then I politely beg to differ. Being able to fine-tune the temperature at the press of a button from 20 feet away, as opposed to just letting it 'do its thing' might be the difference in a fair amount of savings in the long run. I use the remote a lot usually when things are getting just a little too cold and I think you will too. Aesthetically its a box no trimmings here to potentially disguise what it is but that's okay. The read out is bright and fan adjustments with variable speed is a nice addition. The built in dehumidifier is also welcome.
The BTU as you can see, is 10K and that's a chunk of change and will very quickly cool a small room and even an entire open-plan floor of a house or apartment. This unit is super cooling albeit a tad noisy (although no where near the noisiest window unit I've owned). So there's no issues with the BTU figure and for the price I'm impressed.
So that leaves energy saving and ultimately how much you'll pay to run it. Well this unit runs at 9.4 amps and that's on the high side. If you have anything else on the same circuit, especially a fridge, toaster or microwave then you may see some brown outs. Make sure you run it on a fairly unused line if possibly. The amperage draw will cost you more, the price of which is dictated by your Kh/W per hour costs currently around 12-20 cents although your number may be wildly different. I advise you to check into the costs to run this unit versus say the FRA106CV1 and see if paying the extra cash for a more energy efficient unit is worth it in the long run. Don't get me wrong, this is still well within normal amounts but this is just a reminder that there are alternates out there, even from Figidaire itself.
As a final note, this item is usually delivered in its retail packaging. Something to keep in mind if it's going to sit on your doorstep or porch all day. It's not incredibly heavy though so if you're out of town perhaps a neighbor can bring it in.
So, easy to install, looks okay, priced right and super cooling. Can't ask for too much more. Recommended.

A unit of this cooling BTU's can cost anywhere from $150.0 to a little over 300.00. What males the difference are features. remote controls, mountings etc. Some units can be mounted with in slide in cases etc. This unit is somewhere in the middle. A very nice set features, consistent temperature regulation and most important to me low interior noise. It is not the most quiet but nicely quiet. This unit is doing a great job! I've never used an air conditioner with a sleep function before, meaning I've often awakened in the night bathed in sweat or shivering under the covers, depending on whether I guessed too high or too low when I set the A/C for the night. In addition to the sleep function, this one operates with a thermostat, which makes it much easier than trying to guess what combination of fan speed and cooling effort will do the best job. While this blanket certainly heats well, the location of the controls right in the middle of the blanket means that you're always fighting the wires and trying to get them out of the way. Also, the slightest bump changes the setting on the controls, so you frequently turn them higher or lower or even on and off without wanting to. I'm surprised that the manufacturer let this very poor design off the factory floor.

This is a nice blanket. It warms up reasonably fast and provides an even heat over the entire blanket area. The only thing I would change is where the power cord attaches to the blanket. The cord comes out in the middle of the blanket on one of the narrower sides. So, if you have the blanket over you in the long direction, from your shoulders to your feet, the cord comes out by either your neck or feet. Because of my wall outlet location, the cord has to be by my neck, which can be a nuisance. We got this blanket for Christmas and it actually works really, really well. There are three heat settings, plus it turns off after 3 hours so you don't have to worry about burning yourself or getting overly sweaty throughout the night. We actually DID save money on our power bill last winter (January was almost $40 lower than December!). It was pretty amazing. We're actually excited for winter again so we can use it. Very pleased with my Sunbeam microplush electric throw. It warms up very quickly and then somehow adjusts to the temperature of your body. The warmth is even and consistent. DOES NOT feel like a thermostat is going on and off to adjust. All over warmth. I can equate the comfort to taking out a towel from a warm clothes dryer on a very cold day. The throw is not as soft as a microplush blanket because let's face it, it's an electric blanket and it has very supple wires inside...but you really can't feel them. The thermostat control doesn't look like the one pictured. It is long and is very easy to operate. One button changes the temperature from low to medium to high. Has a 3 hour shut off which is really convenient for kids who forget to shut it off or when sleeping. A couple of reviewers said that the plug was in the middle of the blanket, which is not so. The plug is positioned at the BOTTOM of the blanket in the middle. I don't find it to be in the way at all...also the electrical cord is sufficiently long enough to accommodate outlets behind a couch. I got this for my girlfriend for Christmas since she is always cold in the winter time.Long story short, she ended up spending the majority of the winter curled up underneath it.
It warms up quickly, and kept her nice and toasty even when we turned down the heat to save on utilities.
Also, those who complain about the cord coming apart have not connected it properly. There is a plastic latch which when clipped in keeps the cord securely in place.

Its got a good finish, some of the wood is just painted to look like solid wood but for what you pay for its a good deal. Looks nice..went together fairly easily but the fireplace insert had a built in gap of about a half inch (you had to choose top or bottom so i chose top so the fireplace would sit on the supports). It wasnt a build issue it was designed that way. Also...despite having a box that was in perfect shape and looked clean...the base piece of wood wrapped in clean wrapping was filled with dirt and was rotten. Real Flame just said to send it back to who I bought it from and didnt offer to send me the piece, I ended up just taking an orbital sander to it and repainting it to avoid the hassle of getting it back in the box since it would have been a pain to get it back in there. Seller ended up sending us the gel fireplace instead of the electric (same mantel etc) so I cant comment on the electric part of it.Tuesday, September 2, 2014
Review of Cuisinart TEA-100 PerfecTemp Programmable Tea Steeper and Kettle

I bought this after my Adagio Teas triniTea Electric 32-Ounce Tea Maker began deteriorating after about a year. I've been using the Cuisinart for about two weeks now, and I really like it compared to the Adagio maker. Below are my list of pros and cons (when comparing this to the Adagio.)
THE GOOD:
The Cuisinart tea maker is a very sturdy device (the kind Cuisinart is known for.) The carafe is very good, the spout does not dribble when it pours, and all of the parts seem to be made quite well. It is also quite easy to use; reading the directions are probably a minor necessity, but once you get the quick hang of it, it is very easy to use. Fill your carafe and steeper. (b) Turn on and program the desired water temperature. (c) When that is reached and the machine beeps, lower the stepper (with a twist of the dial) and program the steeping time. (d) Once that time is reached and the machine beeps, bring the steeper back up and pour your cup. Lastly, I like that the "keep warm" feature not only keeps the tea at your selected temperature, but stops after 30 minutes (keeping in mind that the carafe still holds the heat for another 45 or so minutes, even when the burner is off).
THE BAD:
For all that, there are a few minor annoyances. First, unlike the Trinitea, which does everything for you (like a coffee maker), this machine requires a fair amount of manual attention when your tea is brewing. That is, the steeper doesn't extend and retract by itself, but relies on you to manually adjust it. This is only a minor annoyance, but it does mean that you can basically get the same results with buying an electronic kettle and an Adagio Teas 16-Ounce Ingenuitea Teapot, keeping the time yourself. (It also means that I can't just turn the machine on and do other things while it is brewing.) Secondly, while I love the fact that the "keep warm" feature shuts off automatically after a certain time, I'd love it if we had the option to choose how much time we wanted it to stay on for. I take my time with my tea, and 30 minutes is JUST too short for me to enjoy my customary 3 cups without having to microwave the last of them. Again, not a big deal, but something to consider. (Of course, the Trinitea nokt only doesn't have an automatic shut off feature, but the "keep warm" setting should read "keep luke warm" because that's what it does. So I can't complain too much about the Cuisinart.)
So, if you are considering a tea maker, I would strongly recommend this over the Trinitea (which several people have noted breaks down after a fairly short time.) This machine is sturdier, makes tea that is every bit as good, and does a good job of keeping it warm (for at least 30 minutes) after it is steeped. But just be advised that this is not an "automatic" machine that you can turn on and let do its thing; it does require manual adjustments of the steeper when it is making your tea. If money is an issue, you might just consider getting an electric kettle and a cheaper Adagio Teas 16-Ounce Ingenuitea Teapot and controlling the time and temperature yourself. But if you can spend very-low-triple-digits on a machine, this is a really good buy.

FINAL UPDATE 6/20/2013: The replacement I was sent by Cuisinart died after eight months, just like its predecessor. The unit was kept clean, the base dry and it handled with care. I used it once about 5-6 times a week, so it's not as though it was being used all day every day. I love the looks the unit and the ability to heat water to different temperatures, but I am now in the market for another electric kettle. A kettle that costs over $100 should last longer than eight months...UPDATE 10/24/2012: After approximately eight months of consistent usage, the kettle shorted out. When plugged in, all the lights flashed and I was unable to select any of the options. I'd say that it was used about 1-2 times a day for about eight months. While used frequently, it wasn't abused in any way. I kept it reasonably dry on the outside and no dropping/rough handling.
This product has a three year warranty. So, I called Cuisinart and paid ten bucks for them to send me a new one. And, of course, I had to ship the old one back. I will use the brand new one and update this review periodically. Hopefully I just got a bit of a bum unit the first time...Nevertheless, doesn't inspire much confidence as this was a new model on the market when I purchased it.
And to the person who asked: Yes, it is BPA free. :)
ORIGINAL REVIEW: It's a little embarrassing, but as an avid tea drinker (around 4 cups a day), this is my first electric kettle. After my trusty stove-top kettle stopped whistling and found fit to spit scolding water, I was in the market for a new one. I wanted an electric kettle for the safety features and convenience. I searched online for a kettle made of quality materials (glass, stainless steel, and BPA-free). And since I mainly drink green, yerba mate and white teas, I became increasingly sold on the new variable temperature options. Not necessary to make a good cup of tea, but it sure does make the process fool-proof.
Armed with research, I went to my local Bed, Bath and Beyond with a 20% off coupon (which I would recommend if you have one in your area since my kettle came to One-hundred and three dollars, about twenty-six dollars cheaper than the current advertised price on Amazon). In the end, it came down to this kettle and the Breville One-Touch Tea Maker. At first glance, you would think this to be a poor substitute for the Breville, but side-by-side, the quality of the construction seems equal. Also, since this kettle has a manual steeping basket, it has fewer automated parts and is less likely to break down. Plus, it comes with a separate lid that removes the steeping mechanism, should you wish.
At first, it took me a couple of minutes to figure out the steeping mechanism and lid. Depositing the loose leaf tea was awkward the first couple of times. It is dishwasher safe and I found cleaning it by hand to be a snap. That said, I do have small hands and I know one of the reviewers indicated it was hard with arthritis, which I can imagine, but not speak to personally.
I got this a week ago and I'm loving it. However, I can't speak to the longevity of it, but I will periodically update this review.
One star off for the slightly awkward steeping mechanism. Otherwise, close to perfect.

I use to drink coffee where brewing is pretty standard. I always loved teas but could not make it taste good every time because teas are far more difficult to brew properly. And I researched buying an iced tea maker but couldn't find one without problems. This tea maker makes both hot and iced teas to perfection.At first, I thought this was a cheaper version of the other steeper that sells for around $240. But, I was glad to see that this has fewer moving parts and, therefore, less likely to break down. The water heats rapidly and it keeps the correct temperature for the entire steeping time.
Read directions carefully-they are a little confusing. And it's difficult to spoon loose tea in, get used tea out, and to clean strainer because of poor design. There is some plastic on the tea steeping mechanism which comes in contact with the hot water, but, there is no aftertaste. The metal at the bottom of pot does become permanently discolored but does not seem to interfere with taste. The product just came out at the end of 2011 so there has not been enough time to determine durability.
But, it does what it says. I am drinking much more tea and enjoying it.

I do like the Kettle but there are a few problems with it. As someone else has mentioned already, it is difficult to clean out the tea infuser. The shaft that runs through the middle of it makes it very hard to reach down to the bottom of the infuser to clean out the remains of the tea leaves. The holes in the infuser are very small, so trying to run water in reverse does not work. The lid for the infuser gets in the way when you put the tea leaves in. It would be better if the infuser detached from the shaft and lid so that you would have clear access to the interior of the infuser. The water temperature runs 10 degrees cooler than it is suppose to be. I set the kettle for the oolong temp (190) and the water measured with two different thermometers read 180. Using the herbal tea setting(200), the water was 190, again 10 degrees cooler than it is suppose to be. Overall, I like the kettle. First impression: Compact, stylish, looks more expensive than it really is. Used one time, did have some confusing moments at first on how to turn, lower, raise steeping apparatus. I ordered this unit thinking it was what I wanted for my upstairs bedroom because I wouldn't have to give up one of the two windows and then could move it to the extra room while sewing. I live in MA and it worked fine the end of June, beginning of July. It cooled the room in no time at all. We then had a cold spell and didn't use it til August when it became brutally humid. I woke up after 2 hours of use and it shut itself down. Found out that the reservoir filled up. I drained it (which isn't easy since the drainage hole is very close to the floor) it turned on by itself and then in 2 more hours did the same thing. I contacted the company.
This is what they said: "Thank you for your purchase of the Whynter SNO ARC-13W portable air conditioner. Can you please put a pan under the drain plug of the air conditioner and remove the drain plug at the back of the unit? Once all water is drained out, the air conditioner should come on automatically.
Please make sure that the exhaust hose is not blocked or bent and able to vent the hot air with moisture to the outside. It is common that the unit is not able to exhaust the moisture collected if your room temperature is low or if the outside is raining or extremely humid. Also, sometimes when you first start running an air conditioner, the self evaporating system may not function in full capacity.
Also, you may want to set up the air conditioner to have continuous drainage by inserting a drain hose to the drain spout if you live in a humid location."
In order to put a pan under it, I had to elevate it on blocks. The pan filled up every three hours so I had to set my alarm to empty the pan.
The company offered a drainage hose but because it doesn't have the capability of pushing out the water, I would have to elevate the unit above the bottom of my window as to put the hose out the window. I contacted them again.
This is what they said: "Thank you for your reply. In order to set up continuous drainage, we recommend to elevate the air conditioner. We can send you a continuous drainage hose which you can connect to the drain plug of the air conditioner. to drain out the moisture continuously."
That defeats the purpose of "portable" so I guess if you live somewhere where it is very humid, this may not be the unit for you.

I've owned and used several portable air conditioners over the years and I'm truly surprised at the speed of innovation over the last several years. Now it has come to a point where portable units have moved beyond your functional clunky beige contraption to something that has been designed to subtly blend into the surroundings. After deciding between this and a Delonghi (yes, I've finally arrived now that I can afford high-end appliances!) I decided to go with the more compact unit that was at a more affordable price point. I've been using this for about a month now and have been completely satisfied with nearly all aspects. One little gripe that I have, is the absence of handles on the side, it definitely is heavy too. It does however churn out very very cold air, look extremely slick and is a snap to use. Great unit, I bought it to cool off the upstairs hallway and bathroom. It actually cools off the whole second floor of my home which keeps the downstairs cooler. Most portables have to be emptied everyday but this unit doesnt need to be emptied for at least a week (I know hard to believe). This is a great little air conditioner. I was skeptical about buying a portable A/C due to the many complaints I've read about them, but due to the restrictions in my NYC co-op prohibiting window air conditioners, a portable was my only choice. I bought this to supplement the mediocre central air in my apartment, which is both too weak for the space it's supposed to cool, and not activated in time for the season's first heat wave. This usually happens in late April or early May and forces me out of my un-air-conditioned apartment for a few days.I was able to hook this unit up quickly. I had to cut the plastic window assembly, which was too long for the width of my window, which was easy to do with a metal ruler and a utility knife. I also had to seal up the edges where the assembly meets the window frame, which I did by cutting some foamcore strips to the right width, covering them in black duct tape, taping them to the top and bottom of the plastic window assembly, placing the assembly in the window, and sealing the joins with more black duct tape. Using duct tape that matched the black window frame made it look neat and seamless. Aside from buying the materials, it took around 30 minutes total to get this out of the box, hooked up and working.
This unit emits a steady stream of freezing cold air, taking my apartment down from the 73-76 degrees provided by the building's unit to around 65-68, which I find much more comfortable. So far I've left it on most of the last 3 weeks and haven't had to empty it yet. The cooling is most effective near the unit, which I keep near my desk and bed, and less effective across the apartment in the kitchen, which is closed off allowing less circulation, and has a refrigerator emitting heat into the room.
The unit emits about the same amount of noise as a large fan. I find this easy to sleep to. Whether or not the compressor is on or off, the noise level is about the same. This unit is one of the smaller portable air conditioners I've encountered, which should make it easy to store in the winter.

Much can be said about this unit but I will keep it short.It does what it's supposed to. There are plenty of features on it.
The weight is impressive. I read that it was heavy but for it's size, it's...heavy.
I was lucky that the unit arrived in good condition. Due to the weight, I believe it could be shipped with more protection and I can see how others received broken units.
This thing runs constantly. I live in a dry climate so I don't have to empty any reservoirs. It's still keeping things cool. The filters are easy to get to and clean.

Ovente Samovar Tea Maker , 1L Teapot and 3L Body Reviews
Samovar received promptly, but there is no included instructions or warranty. The spigot on the samovar was defective, and could not be turned off, but was fixable. It was assembled incorrectly and required disassembly of the spigot itself to straighten the folded silicon seal inside the spigot. The spigot was properly attached to the samovar itself. This version of the Ovente Samovar does not have an electric heater for the teapot on top, which is kept warm by the steam from the large pot below. If you want (not necessary) the second adjustable teapot heater, you will have to buy a more expensive version. Once fixed, this samovar works very well. Quality control of assembly at the manufacturer could be better.
What you want to know is how durable it is, etc. It is not as well made as I'd expected for the price. It doesn't have the electrical certification stuff on the cord so I can't take it to work. But it is very pretty and we're enjoying it a lot. It is working just fine now and I'll check in if/when it breaks.

We got this last week and already it is sort of the center of the household. We are using loose leaf Earl Gray 3 tablespoons to the little pot, and it lasts all day. We have to fill the urn 2-3 times a day (for a family of 5, 2 homeschooled nearly adults.) It's cold in Montana so we like to have something warm in our hands most of the time. Before this two of us drank tea most days and the others only occasionally. Our coffee consumption has dropped from 2 + pots a day to one pot and sometimes a little left over.What you want to know is how durable it is, etc. It is not as well made as I'd expected for the price. It doesn't have the electrical certification stuff on the cord so I can't take it to work. But it is very pretty and we're enjoying it a lot. Reviews of DeLonghi Solaris Oil-Filled Radiator with Timer
I received this heater as a replacement of another Delonghi heater which was higher-performing with more heat output in watts. This is how Delonghi treats you with its cocky 1-year limited warranty. You might as well get an inferior, cheaper product as Delonghi mistreats its customers to do itself a favor. The service location to deliver the broken heater was far, and Delonghi took more than a month to provide me with this cheaper heater.
Besides, both my original heater and the replacement (this heater that the review is about) broke in less than a year. I had to change through 3 heaters in less than a year due to Delonghi's rock bottom product quality. Additionally, the heater makes a noise when in operation that sounds like beating its metal with a hard object. It can be disturbing depending on the person.
Do NOT buy from Delonghi to bear this poor product quality and customer service.
I've used cheap oil filled heaters in the past and they did not have this problem. When I pay a premium for a brand name and supposedly quality design, I expect better than what DeLonghi has provided here. It should not take an engineering genius to realize that heat causes metal to expand and take it into account when designing the product.
Disappointing. Very disappointing.
UPDATE:
And then it broke. Slightly more than one year after purchase this model failed when the GFCI plug melted. So down from a 2 star rating to a 1 star.
One more thing. When I turn on both heat setting (Highest), I hear bubbling(boiling) sound so I keep it in Medium and it's working fine.
This is a shame since the low-profile, relatively small size, selectable wattage, steady heat and timer functions are virtually unique. I held on to the unit and run in areas of the house or garage where noise isn't a distraction and hoped that DeLonghi (or some other manufacture) would market an updated version of this heater without the noise problem. I've not seen one in the three years since this unit began making noise.
In closing this is a wonderful heater until or unless it begins to make the clicking sound seen in numerous other online reviews. I would not buy another of these units or similar DeLohghi heaters with the multi-pin timer.
As a side note I have owned a DeLonghi coffee maker and espresso machine and had quality problems with these units as well. It appears to me that this company has good product design and marketing but poor assembly, quality control and customer service. As attractive as several of their products are I have chosen to avoid items marketed by this company.

This unit clicks constantly. I bought this for a baby's room where I need quiet, even, safe heat. You turn it on and the noise starts as the element heats up... click... click... click... click... I'd give this zero stars if I could. We had this for a little over a month. It worked great at first. It heated our cold kitchen quickly and kept the tempature steady. Then one day, it stopped working. The light would not come on and there's no reason why it wouldn't work. The red button on the plug was pushed in many times and it still would not work. The manual does not give any instruction as to how to fix it except deal with their technicans. There's no sense in dealing with the company based on the other reviews. Purchased about 2 months ago. It still working pretty good, but since yesterday, I hear grinding noise coming from Timer. I am sensitive sleeper and I can't get descent sleep because of it. Constant "Grrrr" like bad motor sound. I will have to return this and maybe get one with Electronic timer instead.One more thing. Best "Honeywell/kaz Home Environme" HZ-2200 Mini Tower Surround Heater Deals
This is a great little heater. I got it for my daughter's room a little over a month ago because Consumer Reports rated it highly. For $25 bucks, it does all I ask. What I like is that you can set it you heat 360 degrees or only push the heat to the front. I set it to the latter, because it's so compact a good place for it is on top of a dresser.
Only thing I wish it had was a digital thermostatic control, but after a couple days of fiddling, you get just the right temperature and can leave it there, tweaking it if necessary.
This year i brought it out to use, plugged it in for day use and on the second day it started turning off on me after about 3 min of use. I unplugged it and let it cool off since it got amazingly hot after that 3 min and i discovered the black, round casing with the holes in it that goes around the top, had melted itself open in the back.
I loved this heater last year but can only give it 2 stars due to longevity.
Only thing I wish it had was a digital thermostatic control, but after a couple days of fiddling, you get just the right temperature and can leave it there, tweaking it if necessary.

Worked well the first year. Second year it overheated to the point that the plastic was soft and the knobs would burn you if you touched them. It annoys me that so much junk gets sold today. Granted, I've had the heater for a couple of years now... But for this price, the thing should last for years, walk the dogs, and babysit my kids if it's not actually going to heat my home office (10'x12'). Implication being that it doesn't heat my office. Exactly. The heater never worked well, and now it doesn't work at all. It turns on. And it blows warm air ineffectively for anywhere from 2.5 seconds to a minute, then it shuts itself off and doesn't come back on until you've completely forgotten about its existence and your hands are small blocks of ice. It absolutely will not stay on but even when it was new and stayed on a little longer, it was pathetic. Complete junk. No idea where the receipt is. Purchased portable A/C to replace window unit (eyesore). Easy to move romm to room and put away when not in use. We use it to assist our central A/C in the summer, when wife cooks (a lot) and as backup incase power goes out, we can hook it to portable generator. So far works great. Cools room quickly and is quiet. We have it in the room with TV and we do not have to turn volume up real loud. Does have the normal hum of any A/C. I will write back in a few months to update on performance and quality. We live in the south, so we run our A/C's in December.
almost year later. Still working great. use it constantly. we live in N.O. so we do not have long winters looking at possible purchasing a second one.

I have owned two similar units for 9 years with no issues. I wanted to get new models to replace the old ones. The first night, I tried to use the heating option, and the unit just blew frigid air from the back opening. I called Haier the next morning, and was told that, unlike the older models, the new units must be vented to the outside throughout the winter months in order for the heating option to work efficiently. The provided plastic window covering does not close off my entire opening. This would mean having to have an open window throughout winter months just to attempt to efficiently heat the room. This was never explained in the online product specs or in the user manual. SInce I returned the item because it was not what I needed (or "no longer wanted" I did not note any clearer reason option), and it was determined to not be the fault of Amazon, I must pay the $63.00+ (and the $6.00 pick-up fee) for having the unit in my home for just one night. I have learned that it is not advisable to purchase appliances online. If the item is not clearly described (so that you don't realize that you cannot use the item until after it arrives), you are penalized. April 10, 2013 FOLLOW-UP: Amazon agreed that the item was not accurately described by the manufacturer, and that the online and user manual specifications were misleading. AC works great and just as advertised. I was really impressed with it and I made my decision based on the reviews that were posted. I just wanted to add that the window assembly was a bit troublesome but was not flimsey as I thought it would be from the other reviews. However when I attached the hose connector to the window panel and attached the four screws I was surprised that it fell apart. Then I realised that the instructions says to tighten the screws from the front. Once I took the assembly off the window and threaded the screws from the other side it worked like a charm, no duct tape needed or extra parts.Your reviews helped me, I hope this helps you. It works well, cools the air quickly, even cools the air in the dehumidifier mode. It also self evaporates so you don't have to deal with draining it. However, be ware that unless you fall asleep easily in a noisy environment, this machine's compressor is as loud and noisy as you can imagine. When it is on you will feel like you are sleeping at a train or metro station when the train is coming in or out! That loud! The fireplace works fine in it's most important aspect: generating heat. It has a stylish, very contemporary design. The glass front is thick and smooth and you don't need to worry about cracking it. The blue backlit display turns off after a few seconds which is nice. Great remote that supports all functions. There are a few annoyances that were weighing too heavily for us and made me return it, though: First, since the unit is only a few inches deep and it is either wall-mounted or on the stand there is no easy way to hide the cord, which really spoils the appearance. The fan is a little noisy and keeps on running even when the heat is turned off, probably to cool the two lamps and to generate the light effect. The "crackling wood" sound effect sounds hollow and thin but can thankfully be turned off. Finally, the light effect is not realistic at all, just a waving background.
If you don't mind these annoyances, it is a good product.

Even though it doesn't look like a tradtional fireplace, I still like it. It fits just about anywhere without taking up a lot of space. I don't like that it doesn't have life like flames; it's just a glowing, moving background. I bought it mainly because it has a REMOTE CONTROL!!! That is a wonderful feature! It has three stages of glowing brightness, which is great. I don't like the sound that is supposed to be crackling wood, but when I lower the sound, it sounds better and more like a crackling fireplace. It's easy enough to carry up to the bedroom, den, basement, wherever you want to put it. Just plug it into any outlet; but because it's 1500 wats,you mustn't have anything else plugged into the same socket outlet. I bought 2 of these around christmas time. One for me and one for a gift. The shipping was free and came in a timely manner. when I recieved them they both had specks inside the glass. I assume it was fragments from the fake log. That rattled loose during shipping. Never the less you can't get them out. Now there is slight discoloration under the glass on the red back ground. Also make sure you use the short screws to attach the base. The directions make it look like you use the long ones. If you hang it on the wall. It's a pain to take it down, and then attach it to the base. So i'ts really one or the other. As far as being a good heater it is. When i'ts in the teens it helps the furnace from coming on every 10 minutes! I've used it every day for a month now and my electric bill has went up 50.00. So if I would have turned up my furnace to stay that warm. My gas bill would have been alot more than that! So for sure buy one! They give off good heat, and the ambiance is cool too! Also turn off the fake log crackle.It annoys everyone.You will enjoy the ambiance alot more!
