Basically i gave this filter 5 stars since it works, and that's what i had in my cartridge before, i have not had a chance to compare this to a different ones. But from my previous filter change i could see how much of gunk was there, that told me it was stopping the dirt of the oil. And its also very cheap compare to some other ones for $30, i wish i saw some comparison results and justified the price.

I got the product because I needed and extra warming system in my basement. Being that we made the basement area for the kids I didn't want a lot of stuff on the floor. I have a daughter that's into gymnastic and a son that loves to move around and play video games. So the option that this unit could be wall mount was great. The unit heat comes out from the top and you can't have anything above it because it will get damage. Also the unit started to smoke every time I put it on and the fire alarm has gone off. I read somewhere that you should take the unit outside and let it run for about 20 minutes to get rid of smoke and it could run properly. I haven't had a chance. Also you can't recess this into the wall, because the vents are on the top. So I might send it back after the holidays because I was really expecting the unit vents to be in the front. I would say don't get it or maybe go to your local fireplace store to get information before purchasing a unit like this.

This item looks nice, is easy to use, and seems to do what it claims. Can select any combo of ozone (purify-5 levels), ion, UV, and fan speeds, plus it is fairly quiet. Have had for 1 month and the ozone generator seems to be fading, so I am not sure about the product longevity...

My office was looking at this air purifier and luckily read a popular consumer magazine first. This is one of two brands they labeled as totally unacceptable. According to their tests, this ozone creating purifier (this is how some filters work) produced unacceptable levels of ozone in the room based on EPA and FDA guidelines and recommendations.

But feel free to research and decide for yourself if this is the air purifier for you. Although you will find for all air "purifiers" that the claims are not true and air "somewhat better" is a more accurate product description.

This air cleaner for the price does not do a good job. There is also a big problem with white powder building up on the fan in front and no way to clean it off. Eventually all the blades get coated and the fan squeaks.

Honest reviews on EdenPURE G-7 Whole Home Air Purifier With UVC Bacteria, Virus

I have been using this unit for a long time and have no problems with this unit, I like the way it cleans the air, when you cook items like Fish, or Bacon, the odors can linger a long time, with this air filter we just turn it on for 20 min or so and its fresh air all around, I know some say that it produces ozone, and ozone is bad, but so is everything to someone, they said the ozone layer was too thin, then they said that the earth was heating up because of ozone, but really there is no scientifically credible evidence to suggest either of those things is true. As a bonus my plants really love the air that Eden Pure puts out, EdenPURE G-7 Whole Home Air Purifier With UVC Bacteria, Virus Killing Technology

This seller needs to be banned from Amazon...I've already reported him.

He told me that although this was used it worked PEREFECTLY! Ya sure...The unit works allright, ONLY with the remote. That means you can't set the clock...it is not a function of the remote. Also, there were loose screws inside.

When I E-Mailed this jerk, his response was, & I quote, "Thats the chance you take when you buy something used."

BUYER BE-WARE...DO NOT BUY FROM THIS IDIOT...HE LIES!!!

This urn is supremely functional, with no bells and whistles. It advertises brewing times of 45 seconds per cup, but I've found that it's closer to the minute per cup advertised by other models: you'll buy back very little setup time with this model (heating 2 gallons of water took 35 minutes for example). Plus, like all other coffee urns, this one sings its moany little song while brewing, so if there's a chance it might be a distraction, you'll need to plug it in ahead of time so it's done brewing by the time the main event occurs, or you'll need to brew in another room and move it to the buffet table once it's hot. The one-handed dispensing works fine if the cup being dispensed into is solid, like a coffee mug, but common sense is confirmed that paper cups are not sturdy enough to depress the button without collapsing. In order to dispense one-handed with a paper cup, you have to push the button with your knuckles, which puts your fingers in the path of potentially hot liquids. Finally, and this is something that there's no way to know before reading the owner's manual, there's a little strainer right above where the liquid comes out. The owner's manual warns not to tip the urn while dispensing in order to prevent clogging of this strainer with coffee grounds. That's all well and good, except that due to the placement of the dispensing nozzle, the coffee becomes inaccessible when the level goes below about 10 cups--that's 1/4 of the total brew for a full pot!! It's this waste factor that resulted in the 4 stars instead of 5. For its price, it's a tidy little machine--the nozzle is particularly good at preventing drips. However, I'd rather clean up dribble from a lower-placed nozzle than have to find a way to decant 10 cups of coffee.

I just made delicious coffee for a crowd with this. I have never made percolator coffee. I think I put in too much coffee but it came out very well. I got a 13 oz can of some sort of smooth & mellow decaf coffee from Trader Joe's and I got it very coarse ground. I used the whole can for a full urn of water (up to the 40 mark). I read that you use 1 pound for 2 gallons of water as a catering standard. The urn is about 80% of 2 gallons, so 13 oz seemed right. It was more than the directions for the urn, but I decided to wing it. I'm really glad that I did! It was excellent, even a couple of hours later. The keep warm setting is great and the coffee is nice and hot and NOT overdone. I would recommend that you get a light-medium roasted coffee and grind it coarsely in the store.

My husband asked me to save the rest, which he never does when I get the Peet's catered coffee, so it is sitting in the fridge ready to make iced coffee!

Best Deals for Hamilton Beach 40540 Brew Station 40-Cup Coffee Urn, Silver

We purchased this unit from Bed Bath & Beyond as a replacement to the Hamilton Beach 40515 (HB) coffee urn (which was better in our opinion).

This unit looks pretty, and it holds >40 cups of water just as the HB did, but instead of being tall and slim, it is a short and fat unit.

The cup dispenser uses a pressure-release mechanism rather than a lift valve which at first glance seemed better because we can just put pressure on it with the coffee cup in hand rather than lifting a latch, but we were mistaken. The unit's pressure dispenser is placed at an angle, so it only dispenses full force when the bottom of the dispenser is pressed; when placing the coffee against the top of the unit, nothing comes out.

The problem with this is that the unit is so short, nothing larger than the small coffee cups will fit under the unit to allow it to dispense. This is a problem since most of our coffee cups are not the small ones. If you can fit the coffee cup under the dispenser to get it to dispense, you also have to be careful because unlike the spout-type dispensers, if you're not careful and there is not a sufficient amount of water in the unit, you'll knock it over and burn everyone around you including yourself when you reach to touch the burning hot unit with your bare hands to prevent it from falling and spilling.

Other than that, there is no way to see how much water is left in the unit, and the first day after using it with guests, it ran out of water and burned the bottom. Were there an indicator, we would have seen that we were running low on water and the bottom wouldn't have burned, possibly damaging the unit. Other units have either an indicator where you can see the water level, and others even have an automatic shut-off when the water level gets low and this unit has none of these features.

Honest reviews on Hamilton Beach 40540 Brew Station 40-Cup Coffee Urn, Silver

We sell organic coffee at the local farmer's market on Saturday morning, so I bought two of these so I would not have to brew continuously with my small coffee makers. They started out great, I agree with the other reviewers that the finish on this could be better and it does get scratched up and discolored. I also agree that the dispenser is not that great and causes many people to struggle to get their cup of coffee. The pots do heat up quickly, and it does take about a minute per cup for the pot to brew which is not as quick as Hamilton Beach boasts, but it makes a decent cup of coffee.

My main complaint is that after about 8 uses, one of my pots suddenly stopped perking. It would keep the coffee warm, but it would not perk (make) the coffee. I called Hamilton Beach and they replaced the pot (and charged me $7.95 to ship it back to me!) and I thought GREAT! Back to two pots we're in business again! Not for long because I swear (NO JOKE!) the Saturday after my new pot arrived back from Hamilton Beach, the OTHER coffee urn went out! I am back down to working with one coffee pot and quite frankly due to my past experiences I have NO idea when this new pot will decide to give out! I have decided that I am going to replace the pots with a different brand because I depend on those pots working, and these are anything but dependable.

Functions well, heats quickly, but I don't care for the aluminum, the inside discolors. Stainless steel would be better but would jack up the price substantially. I only bought it for holidays so its fine, but if I were going to use it more frequently, I'd opt for a better quality stainless.

It came regular shipping in just a few days -just as promised. The instructions were clear except it didn't specify the wire required or breaker size. 240 volts (16.67 amps) You could probably use 12 gauge20 amp, but I used 10 gauge 30 ampto exceed the 80% limit factor on the breaker. It is about as quiet as a regular fan forced plug in portable heaterbut puts out alot more heat. (It wouldn't burn anything around it though.) It was easy to install I surface mounted it to a block walland made a frame to cover the unpainted housingout of white plastic lumber. (cheaper than going to another site to buy the $60 surface mount-frame kit). Appears to have quality parts. The grill is white and neat looking. I almost bought the 3000 watt unit but I am happy with this 4000 watt one.

I got a one-month propane bill for $300 this winter and I hadn't even had the house comfortably warm. Overwhelmed at the cost of the bill, I sought an alternative. Since it was an exceptionally cold winter, it seemed there were no heaters to be found anywhere. Locating one at a Target, I purchased it as the only option available to me.

It was such a toasty, seep-into-your-bones kind of warm I decided to buy a second one. This has kept me very comfortable. It's such a welcome heating choice. Even my cat loves it. I can find her snuggled RIGHT next to one or the other of the heaters. It's a safe kind of heater too. Sometimes the cat will actually curl into contact with the heater. She'll sleep quite happily there until at last she gets too hot. When that happens she leaps away from the heater, giving me a very dirty look like it was all my fault. Silly cat.

The BIG advantage though is the cost savings. My $300 propane refill bill went to $0 (my tank hasn't needed refilling yet!) My electric bill did go up though (as one would naturally expect). The electric bill? $30 higher than the previous month!

So in effect, I purchased two of these heaters and paid $30 more in electricity and still came out ahead of that horrendous propane bill of the month before. From $300 for heating to $30.

YEAH!

With the cost of natural gas way up last winter, I wanted to see if I could save money by using supplemental heating in some parts of the house. I bought this one to use in my daughter's bedroom at night because I figured it was safer than a coil heater.

The Honeywell 690 has more than met my expectations. It is odorless and silent (except a very quiet click when the thermostat goes on and off), easy to adjust and move around, and on its lowest setting (which I use exclusively), it is hot, but not too hot to touch. I'm able to turn the house furnace down as low as I dare (to about 50...don't want to freeze my pipes) while my daughter stays nice and cozy in her bedroom. And I really didn't notice any increase in my electric bill. But while everyone I know was passing out over their gas bills, mine was quite reasonable all winter.

The nature of an oil-filled heater is that it takes time to heat a room, but then it does a fantastic job of keeping the temperature steady. You don't have a super hot zone right next to the heater with it cold everywhere else. In areas where we want quick, brief periods of heat (bathroom, kitchen table), I'm using fan-assisted coil heaters. But in rooms where the occupants will be spending hours (bedrooms, family room, home office), the slow, steady heat of the Honeywell 690 is perfect.

I was so pleased with how well this performed last winter, I'm going to get one for my bedroom this winter.

Note: If you buy one and it has anything beyond maybe a slight smell the first hour of usage, take it back for an exchange. I'm very sensitive to odors, and I never smelled anything with this heater.

After going through 3 other a/c's this summer (a frigidaire that arrived broken, another that was the wrong voltage and an LG from a few years ago that finally bit it) I spent the extra $ and went with a fredrich. Couldn't be happier, or for that matter, cooler. The unit takes about an hour to install, you have to slide the chassis off and mount the unit to the window (be sure to follow the instructions!) what you see when you slide the unit out from its housing is what makes this ac different. Solid commercial grade fan and compressor, a vent to take in outside air, totally solid construction.

After installing and turning it on the unit cooled off my place in about 15 min (about 550 sq. ft.) and it keeps the temp consistent. It's not the quietest unit I've heard but it's acceptable and I can easily watch a movie w the unit running in the same room.

Finally, this ac looks really nice. Love that the controls are hidden under a flip up panel. Totally modern and clean looking.

Worth the extra money and time for installiation. Highly recommended.

Back in 1999 I bought a Goldstar 10K BTU window unit and it worked perfectly for the last 13 years but it started to make some new noises that were telling me it's days were numbered.

Goldstar was bought by LG and I bought a refurbished 12K BTU LG unit on line two months ago and it turned out to be defective.

The thing I noticed was all three units were identical in their internal layout, external dimensions, and even the metal stampings in the frame and louver placement.

The only difference was the design of the plastic face attachment... like a '61 Pontiac and a '61 Chevy are pretty much the same car with cosmetic differences.

So, the moral of the story is, spend the money, get a good unit like this Friedrich and save yourself the frustration and aggravation of going round and round with having to ship back a defective unit after you've cut up the shipping box.

Always plug it in before you cut up the box!

When I could not find a room air conditioner that was manufactured in the USA, I chose the Friedrich, which was rated best by Consumer Reports. I installed the unit through the wall and the owners manual and installation instructions on line do not recommend framing the inside of the opening but I think that framing is essential and I framed it. The instructions also do not call for the removal of a flange on the top of the case but I believe it is necessary for through the wall installation. We have only used the unit sparingly since it was installed due to weather conditions but when we did, the performance and cooling capacity was excellent. There are several fan speed settings on the unit that are extremely hard to read on the remote due to the small size.

I had installed these in each bathroom in old house. Wired in to replace single pole switch & it worked right out of the box. Also could turn backwards to turn off. But I can not find at Lowes or Home Depot. They only have the ones that are a single light switch replacement. I want this because each bathroom has 2 light switches (one for light and one for fan) in each wall plate.

Thanks Amazon for having them available I just ordered 3 for my new house.

This is an excellent spring-wound timer switch whose mechanism has a very solid feel to it. I first saw this timer in my office building where it gets used many times a day to turn on the bathroom fan. It's been there for years and is still holding up fine. So when the Woods timer I initially used for my bathroom fan wouldn't shut off I figured I'd give this one a try and I've been very pleased.

Like all timers, it's a bit bulky, but it helps that this timer doesn't have pig-tail wires that you need to wire-nut to the wires in the switch box. By using teeter terminal clamps built into the unit to secure the wiring it does cut down on the wiring bulk in the box. Just the two connections (line and load) and no neutral required. Highly recommended.

This is the ultimate bathroom fan switch. Without this switch, I'm guilty of leaving my bathroom fan on for hours because I forget about it. With this auto-shutoff switch you dont have to worry about that anymore. You can use this switch for other stuff like lights too if you want. Highly recommended for bathroom fan!

Honest reviews on Intermatic FD60MWC 60-Minute Spring Loaded Wall Timer, White

I purchased this timer to replace an earlier version of the same timer that stopped working. I started out looking for a different brand, but this one was the lowest cost option.

The pros:

+ Low cost + free Amazon shipping!

+ Easy installation & the dial plate fits over the existing switch opening.

+ Easy to operate, with the exception noted below.

+ Quiet operation... the fan noise is louder.

The cons:

No manual off. It's odd they removed the manual off feature that we got used to on the earlier version of this timer?

The knob is a bear to push on & just as difficult to remove! I suggest installing & removing the knob a few times to loosen it up, before installing the timer.

I have been using this timer for about 5 years and just purchased 3 more at the request of neighbors who wanted one for their apartments. Mine is used to time the hot water heater for my daily shower and has more than paid for itself in savings on the electricity bill. Previously it was necessary to manually turn on and off the heater and invariably it remained on longer than necessary, to the detriment of my electricity bill. The fact that I have used this timer daily for 5 years without a hitch is confirmation of its durability. I realize that nothing last forever, but after 5 years of daily use mine shows no sign of advancing age.

Timers are also available for shorter periods, but I see no benefit in buying one of them. This timer gives me the option of a full hour, but also permits running the timer for any period less than that.

If you need a timer, this is a very good choice.

Summary: A real time saver for cleaning the numerous spills stains and messes from kids and pets. Semi-Automatically (see details) cleans vomit and other unpleasant messes.

We have 3 kids (ages 2, 4 and 7) and 2 cats. One of our cats (Pukey cat, AKA Natasha) is a Siamese and vomits regularly. Our youngest is potty trained but still doesn't fully comprehend the concept of wiping one's behind on toilet paper. Need I say more? We're using this thing perhaps three times a week.

This device is a bit larger than you'd expect. At approx 8"x16"x16 it's about as big as a small canister vacuum.

It cleans an 8" circle with each cycle. This is typically good enough, when a mess is just larger, I find that it's easier to use the hand attachment (which also has a sprayer) to clean the "outlier" than to run another cycle. With a fresh pot of cleaning solution and an empty collector, it will run 4 cycles. Although it has a "Surface stain" and a "Set-in Stain" cycles, I have yet to find an organic stain (Vomit and stuff from the other end) that needed the "Set-in stain" cycle (which scrubs for six minutes instead of three.) We're pretty good at keeping food on the tile and hardwood floors so far.

The carpet we've used it on are the very short berber (Basement) ~3/8" and 1/" nylon carpet, all light colored / off white. One is a "twist" carpet, the other a pretty standard style

Here are some tips for using it:

1) Use warm water to help soften dried on stains. This one doesn't have an automatic heater (there is a model that does)

2) Don't feel like you need a lot of cleaning solution. The warm water gets out most organic stains on the first try.

3) After each cycle the circle is pretty wet. Use the hand hose to suck out the excess water.

4) Rotate the upper cord stowage hook to quickly remove the cord all at once.

5) Be careful where you put it when you're done you're supposed to be able to leave water in the (clean) water tank and it's not supposed to leak but we have found that occasionally it will drip or leave a few tablespoons of water on the floor. Some of this is probably residual water in the hoses. We wouldn't want to leave it on a hardwood floor where this might be an issue.

A couple of minor complaints:

1) The hand attachment isn't the easiest to remove and re-attach. It would be nicer if the button was larger.

2) The cleaning solution tank is no terribly stable. Be careful not to tip it over before putting the cap on Don't ask me how I know this.

3) The unit is pretty big and storage is always tight

4) Despite the "Microban" the hose still gets a moldy/mildewy layer of crud super nasty. We run a pint of hot water with a little bleach through once a month. Run it through 3-4 times while vigourously shaking the hose and it breaks all that crud off. Then rinse.

As a dog breeder, I needed something to pickup the occasional "oops" on the floor. I had originally had a Little Green Spot Machine. I didn't like that you had to use the hand brush, but I REALLY objected to the fact that when you cleaned organic messes, it stunk so bad you couldn't have it in the house with you, no matter what you did (baking soda) etc.

Bissell finally got it right! The dirty water tank is treated with microbicide--stops that awful smell--and I believe the formulas have some special fresheners in them, because there is not any kind of a smell anymore. Hooray!

I also had a couple of spots of "carpet of horror" near my desk--red wine, chocolate and coffee, cigarette ashes and probably a dog mark too, all together--since the dogs would go up into my desk chair and try to have a "drink" of whatever I had. Clean on the first try! My goodness.

I purchased a Bissell Spot Bot last month and I have two cats and a puppy and we are using the spot bot 2-3 times a week. I love it and it really works, on set-in stains and surface stains. Yes, it leaves "crop circles" in your carpet, but if you use the hose after you clean the spot you can pick up more water and you can also brush the carpet so you can't see the circles anymore. If you are doing large areas or more than 4 spots you may get tired or adding and empty the water. For the 3 minute cycles you can do about 4-5 before you have to empty and add new water.

Honest reviews on BISSELL Spotbot Pet Handsfree Spot and Stain Cleaner with Deep

We have had a SpotBot for years and just replaced it with this newer model. Apparently this is the new, redesigned model of the previous model, which Amazon now says is not available. In some ways, we like the older model better The new "C" shaped formula container is harder to handle and holds less liquid. But this device is a real time and money saver. We have two Boxers and they are pretty well housetrained, but occasionally we have problems unexpected vomiting here, an overnight diarrhea there and you are looking at significant carpet cleaning bills, even if you go through the inconvenience of renting a machine at the grocery store. With SpotBot, the problem is solved in less than 5 minutes (10 if you have to mix up the formula). For "just happened" surface stains, the Bissell Pet Formula seems to work OK, but the 2-formula, OxyGen2-based mixture seems to work better for set in stains that somehow missed your detection for a day or two (on the back side of the dining room table, for example). Pick up any solids with paper towels (which we put in a Ziplock bag before we throw in the trash, to avoid odors) and put the SpotBot to use and like magic, your carpet generally looks like new. A stubborn stain might take a back-to-back second application. My wife loves this machine and would not be without it as long as we have dogs. When you need it, you really NEED it! One last tip: Shop around locally for the SpotBot. We found it on sale in a local big box store for half of the price being asked here!! Sorry, Amazon!

I'd give this 4 or 5 stars. I was hesitant when I read some of the other reviews, but have been please so far.

I bought this because I have a toddler and a dog and until just recently a sick cat.

Based on some of the negative reviews that I read, I will address how I handled the things I took as warnings:

1It does make a clean spot if your carpet is kind of dirty. I live in a rental, so am not going to super clean their carpets, but I prefer light spots over puke spots.

2Clean up the chunks with a rag or paper towel before using the vacuum and 'spreading' it around. If you do the cleaning you can do by hand, it doesn't spread it around like another reviewer complained.

3After using, I run clean water through the hose and wash out the attachment if I used it. I also empty the dirty reservoir and rinse out several times after each use. It hasn't had any odor like another reviewer complained. I also found that the bottom that the dirty reservoir sits on can use a wipe to dry it and remove any dirty stinky water.

4I did find that the carpet was pretty wet after the automatic cycle, so I use the hose attachment to vacuum up the excess.

The tank does fill up after 5 or so basic cycles. The only thing that annoys me about it is that it keeps beeping after it finishes, forcing you to go push the off button. I guess this is good, because then I don't go to bed leaving the stinky water int he dirty reservoir.
