In response to the 2 main problems other reviewers report with this product, my experience is that they can be resolved with minimal effort.

3/4 inch threads not sealing. I had no problem with this. I used thread tape, wrapped around the male fittings 4-5 complete turns, CLOCKWISE (important). I then threaded my fittings into the housing until they seated against the housing (my fittings have a collar), tight but not ridiculously tight. No leaks under normal household water pressure.

10 inch filters not fitting into housing. I purchased Culligan 20 micron filters and Purenex 5 micron filters. Purchased the Purenex because Amazon was out of the Culligan 5 micron. The Culligan filters are 9 5/8 inch long and have hard plastic caps on each end. The Purenex are 10 inch long and do not have any caps at the ends, they are all "filter". Needing to use the 5 micron, I inserted the 10 inch Purenex into the housing and screwed the base into the top and yesthe filter seems to be too long for the housing. I continued to screw the housing together, a little forceful, until the 2 pieces seated together. I encountered no leaks here either. I then checked the filter to see if it was crushed or distorted and it was not. Thus I think one can use 10 inch filters, they just need to be screwed on more tightly and the filter will conform. Also, as another posted; you could easily cut the filter shorter.

Very happy with the housing, made well, does exactly what I need; which is to pre-filter for a smaller micron filter in our roof-fed cistern water system.

I am using this filter for all of the water coming into our trailer at a seasonal campground, in a "whole house" type configuration. Not sure exactly what was in the water, but it had a distinct taste and smell, and when boiling water for pasta, it would turn orange. After running water through it for only a minute, I removed it and looked at the filter and it had captured a surprising amount of "orange stuff". The filter does not seem to slow our water pressure at all.

The only issue I have with this filter, which I saw mentioned by other reviewers, is that when screwing in a standard 3/4" plumbing fitting into the filter, you need to use A LOT of teflon tape so that it does not leak. I had to put on teflon tape, put together, test, see leak, and repeat a number of times.

Best Deals for Culligan HF-150A 3/4-Inch Whole House Sediment Water Filter

There's one flaw that makes the Culligan HF-150A unusable, at least for me: The NPT threads for the inlet and outlet are cut incorrectly and do not work well with standard fittings.

As everyone knows, NPT threads are cut on a taper, so that the pieces snug into each other as you tighten. Both threads on this filter are cut too large. When you try to screw in standard NPT compression fittings, the fittings bottom out before becoming acceptably snug. (I wasn't even using a wrench; I was tightening them by hand!)

I discovered this while I was dry fitting everything, and without thread tape. However, several professional plumbers at the local plumbers' supply house agreed that all was not right with this unit. They tell me that one would expect that the fittings should get snug well before bottoming out, even without thread tape.

One plumber at the supply house suggested I kludge it with LOTS of thread tape, and maybe a water hose gasket; others suggested trashing this unit and getting a "good" one. Not wanting to kludge or experiment, I went with the latter suggestion ditched this filter.

Note: The instructions talk about using a "BF-34" fitting kit to install this. Perhaps the only fittings that work with this are the BF-34 fittings. I don't know. As I said above, I gave up on this filter.

Whatever filter you end up using, I suggest putting a cut-off valve on *BOTH* sides of it; that will make filter changes much easier. Being able to isolate the filter on both sides, you won't have to turn off the water supply on the inlet, and won't have the rest of the plumbing draining on your face through the outlet.

Caveat emptor.

Works great! I had a hard time finding this in the hardware stores.

The description on this item was just what it said it was and fast delivery.

I would recommend to anyone

This one is solid, does not leak and said to last 10 years. I used PVC fittings w/ teflon tape, don't know about copper or plastic. The clear housings are more likely to crack or leak so I read. You need to shop around for the right filter. This one takes 9 & 3/4" not the 10".

My expectations for this item were not met at all. It does not get hot enough to even keep the liquid warm. Dosent matter what setting you use, it just didnt work for me. I am very disappointed with it.

This unit is quite underpowered for my taste. At best it keeps a cup of coffee above ambient temp. My advice would be to find a higher wattage unit.

I bought this because I liked the hi/low temperature feature. Unfortunately, the high level does not even come close to keeping coffee warm, and the low setting is equally useless. It's unfortunate, but the warmer is now stuck in a drawer.

This beverage warmer does not keep the coffee hot, even on high setting. I will not purchase another one. My husband has to warm his coffee in the microwave.

works ok with cans, extends coolness of beverage but not for long time .. looks cool at my desktop

While the CoolIT Beverage Chiller isn't powerful enough to even keep a drink cool, I found a way to keep my drink cold until I finish it. Get a koozie (foam can holder), cut out the bottom, put it around a soda can and stick the can on the CoolIT chiller. Granted, most of the job is done by the koozie, but near the end of the can, it does make a difference.

Best Deals for Coolit Systems USB Beverage Chiller

You're delusional if you think a USB port can take a drink from room temp and make it nice and cold. If you want to do that for $30, again, you're crazy.

Now, if you want an apparatus that keeps cold drinks from warming up as fast and also keeps the bottom half of your can of soda colder much longer, this is perfect. Assuming you crack open a beverage when it's cold, this thing is great. The top half of the drink is gone before it warms up. It's the bottom half that causes problems and this does the job.

Not even close to as loud as some reviews say it is. Yeah, it hums...but it's the same level of sound as the power supply on the CPU, so it's not like I even notice. Granted, this thing is closer to the user than the power supply, but it makes no difference.

I liked this thing. Got it as a gift and it is useful only for aluminum can drinks.

Honest reviews on Coolit Systems USB Beverage Chiller

The CoolIT USB Beverage Chiller is a great idea with not-so-great execution. It only keeps the bottom part of the beverage cold, and not so much that you would notice a difference. The fan is loud. All-in-all an unimpressive product. I'm sending mine back.

I got this device as an early Christmas gift and was mildly excited (I love gadgets). I tested it out in a well air-conditioned office on cans of Diet Coke.

Can 1: fresh out of the box, never opened, & placed on chiller for 1hr. Results: no noticable change in temp.

Can 2: one hour in fridge, never opened, then onto chiller for 1.75 hrs. Results: soda got slightly warmer.

Can 2: 3 hours in fridge, opened, then onto chiller where I sipped it over the course of an 1.5 hrs. Results: it got warmer at what seemed like the standard rate.

This device does not work as advertised. It did not keep my drinks cool. It did not delay the warming. Not a worthwhile gift and certainly not worth $25. Save your money and use ice.

Other downsides: No on/off switch, can only be powered via USB, and it is heavy enough that laptop users will leave it behind.

This has been a nice space heater to use. It has manual low, manual high, and thermostat temp auto settings,. You can either use oscillating or turn it off with switch. On high, this fan is a bit noisy, but that is my only complaint. I own two different Holmes heaters, and I like both.

I purchased the roll and glow fireplace from HSN. Love it, it really keeps my living room warm and I do not have to run the base board heater, which saved me over $100 heating cost per month. However, I did not purchase the filter for the Roll and Glow and too much dust got into the heating element and caused it to go out. I thought that I was going to have to purchase a whole new unit. But just by chance I thought that I would check Amazon to see if a replacement fan blower and heating element could be purchased. I purchased the replacement part. My brother and I removed the old unit and put in the new one and we are up and going. Works wonderfully. So happy with this product! Also, it was not too difficult to install, I did not see any directions in the package, but everything just plugs in to the electronic panel on the fireplace. We just mapped which wire went where, because the stock element was the exact same as the replacement, unplugged the old (which was not that easy, take your time with it) and plugged in the new element which was a breeze. Thank you!

I figure the labor charge and the gas burned from taking it to a repair center, (nearest one to me is 25 miles), would have at least tripled what it cost me to just do it myself. The connections are very tight, even taking my time I still managed to pull one of the wires out of the connector, giving myself an additional small repair job.

Wife happy to have heater working again = priceless

I love the look of this heater. Everyone comments that it looks like a small piece of furniture, like an end table. The oak cabinet is easily cleaned just like any other wood furniture.

As for comfort, let me say I love being toasty warm and this unit does the job. It will heat up to one thousand square feet. It will not work well if you have cathedral ceilings, nor will any other heater. The castors make it easy to move from room to room if you want.

We bought this heater on the recommendation of several friends who have owned this heater for several years and all are happy with it and have had no problems. At this time we have only one of these heaters, but are considering buying a second one this winter to place in another area of our home.

Another nice feature of this heater is that it contains four 375 Watt infra-red lamps that can be replaced by the consumer. Other heaters have bulbs that are hard-wired making it necessary to have them replaced by the maker.

This unit has a simple thermostat, not the digital display type with many selections. My husband loves this feature because we already have too many appliaces and electronics with confusing digital displays.

Highly recommended!

I bought one of these 4 years ago. I read the description here on Amazon and I chuckled. 700 sq feet of heating? For $1 a day? Right. It's a 1500 watt heater. It doesn't say that anywhere in the description of course. Notice there are no specs provided. No measured "BTU" rating so who knows how much heat is coming out of it? I do. Little to very little. The unit itself looks almost crude at the back where the thermostat and filter are. Almost like a home-made deal. I don't care about that though. I wanted something to keep the chill out of a decent size room upstairs in my house. The room is 15 x 20 ft and has a low ceiling. 300 sq feet. Well insulated. (Former attic space). This unit does heat it up but only if I turn it on 3 days before I plan on going up there. Sadly, it blows a very very gentle warm breeze that you can feel only if you stick your hand directly in the front of it. When they say "soft heat", they mean feather soft. So soft, you can't even feel the heat. It's pretty heavy but the casters do move it around easier. I tried to sell it a couple different times but got no takers. I think I paid $375 for mine but that was around 4 years ago. Maybe 5. I replaced it with 3-425 watt convection wall panels. That's 1275 watts. They too are slow to heat, but they're dead silent and it gets toasty in there far quicker. By the way, don't let ANY company tell you how much something costs to operate other than your power company. You pay for "watts". Volts multiplied by amps. The lower the watts, the cheaper it will be to run though if you get something too small, it's ineffective and could end up costing you more because it never turns off. Which brings us back to this Sun Cloud heater....

Best Deals for Sun Cloud Solar Comfort KD8000 Portable Infrared Heater, Classic Oak

This particular infrared heater is a pretty solidly built unit. Definitely seems higher quality than all the other infrared heaters on the market.

I use it in my small basement and it does ok in keeping it fairly warm. Unfortunately, the thermostat is more like an on off dial as opposed to a real thermostat that cycles the heater on/off. The unit will either be on all the time or off all the time. But I've never had a portable heater from any brand that had a working thermostat.

Now...is the Solar Comfort worth $500? I would say no. It does not heat any better than your avg portable heater from Lowes, Home Depot, Target, etc. And, those units only cost around $100. Although all the previous cheapo units I've bought only lasted 3-4years...for $500...you could buy 5 cheapo units for the price of 1 Solar Comfort.

Honest reviews on Sun Cloud Solar Comfort KD8000 Portable Infrared Heater, Classic Oak

My house is a small one, about 800 square feet of space. I live in upstate New York, just east of Lake Ontario, and when it's not snowing off the lake, it's cold, just the same. Winters are usually not mild ones. My house is set to be heated with electric baseboard heat, and I have a Timberline fireplace insert that will heat the whole house should I want to use wood. About six years ago, I bought a 1500 watt Sun Cloud zone heater, which is rated for up to 800 square feet of space. It is thermostat controlled and uses four 375 watt infrared bulbs to provide the heat. The bulbs heat many flagella like tubes through which the heated air is blown and out into the room. It looks much like every other similar heater being sold these days, but the inner shell is metal and the outer shell is wood (oak, cherry or mahogany). What makes this heater so much better than other designs is that you don't have to send it back to the manufacturer for repairs. Anything that might go wrong can easily be fixed locally if necessary. The bulbs can be found at your local electric store, and so can the thermostat or blower. Parts are simple, not complex, and your local handyman can repair it easily! I have been using this heater for all the cold months that I have owned it, and if the outside temperature stays about 30 degrees, the house never gets chilly. Anything below 30 degrees will drop the temp to say 67 degrees, but I just augment the house temp with my baseboard heat and everything is toasty. Since the unit is thermostatically controlled, it cycles on and off as necessary, but even if it ran all night and day, it would only use 1.5 kilowatt/hours of electricity per hour, times 24 hours which equals 36 kilowatt hours of electricity per day! Multiply that by your local electricity rate (say 10 cents per kilowatt hour of usage), and you can readily see that it cannot cost more to use than $3.60 per day! As I said, the thermostat allows it to cycle on and off, so for most people, it will cost less than $3.60 per day to use. I am so happy with my unit that I bought two more units to augment my mother's home, which has more than double the floor space that my home has. She heats with oil and uses from 3 to 5 gallons per day in the winter months. With oil prices soaring, she should save money using Sun Cloud.

I bought my Solar Comfort Heater after a lot of research.I believe I made the right choice.I have an electric furnace because I like clean air.The price of electricity keeps going up.My budget always increases in January. Not this year, even with the riseing costs of electricity my budget came down 8% and I have only had it for 3 months.Thats not a lot.I think it will even be better next January. With the riseing cost of everything it's nice to see something come down. And as for the cheap heaters, there have been 2 fires so far this winter in my area cause by them.So I glad that my Solar Comfort Heater will not cause a fire and still keep me warm. You don't know me but I have a fear of fire and I feel safe with this heater, enough said.

I tried to buy several units, but the manufacturer Hudson is a pain to work with! The person on the phone said he had experience installing these units, but when I asked about flow rates, resistance, etc (just basic questions), he admitted he didn't "really" have installation experience. You're pretty much on your own if you buy one, and if their pre-sales support is so bad, I bet they're an equal pain to return things to if/when they break. They also have no phone number in North American -just in the UK, so they are conveniently open at 3.30 am EST (half past midnight West Coast time), but you have to have an international calling plan to talk with them. Like I said -what a pain! I'll post a US or even any North American supplier when I can find one ....

UPDATE: 11/30/12 -I found a local alternative here in the USA! Myson, Inc prides themselves on great customer service, and they got me to a very technically smart guy within 1 minute of calling with no hold queues or annoying hold music. And they are 1/3 cheaper than Hudson!! I hope they advertise on Amazon, but meanwhile you can compare for yourself at

Note -I have no affiliation with any of these companies, and I get no payment or kickback or anything for my opinion. :-) I just like honest, quality products and customer service, and being given a line by a self-professed "expert" by Hudson with no US phone support (only UK, and no easy phone calls only reeaally slow chat line -I think they use a dial-up modem ?!?! -really irked me.

Do not purchase from this company or its products. I purchased a vacuum from one of its distributors and stocked up on bags for the model. The bags were purchased directly from Emer. After receiving the bags, but before the vacuum shipped, (it still hadn't by the time the bags arrived, and so, I canceled the order), I found out that the model had been discontinued for quite awhile! I obtained a RAN # from Emer and paid $16.03 to insure it through USPS for return of the bags and a full refund of $109.00. I have not heard anything from them and it has been 2 months. I will now be able to file a claim with USPS, since it was tracked, (although it strangely disappeared in the mail, almost exactly when it should have arrived at Emer's doorstep across the country) and insured. Unfortunately, when you insure with USPS, be prepared to receive much less back and a long wait. We will still be out around $75.00. Emer has not tried to contact us. A vacuum is something which should not be purchased online, imo. None of the vacuum stores and repair shops had even heard of Emer, when we purchased a new machine 2 months ago.

I agree with the first reviewer. We built a new home 2 years ago. The floors are very fragile and are a dark wood. It seemed that everything scratched the surface of the wood and I searched tirelessly for a vac that would not scratch the floor. Ever was the answer! I have the Donatello model and just love it. Light weight and the pivot action allows you to get into all the corners very easily. I would be lost without this. I have a Dyson for heavy duty action, but it would tear up our hardwood floors.

These bags are worth the price. I removed the carpet from my home and installed darkly stained hardwood floors. I quickly learned that my vacuum, which I've loved for years, would not be the best way to clean/maintain my new hardwood floors. So, I started to research. Do you know how hard it is to find a GOOD vacuum cleaner WITHOUT a beater brush and that is designed NOT to scratch floors? Let me tell you, it's hard! These vacuum bags work perfectly for my Rafaello Donatello vacuum cleaner. I can only recommend this style and brand! It's light weight and it works flawlessly.
