I've always wanted to try out a vacuum brewer, and so I bought this one since it had a great price and included a burner. I have used the burner a few times at the table, but I have found I mostly prefer to simply use the gas stove. The butane burner does work well and has plenty of heat to get the job done. Plus the whole package is very handsome.

I didn't think I'd use this much because it's a bit more of a hassle than a french press, but I like the coffee it makes so much that I use it every day. I'm surprised it makes coffee that is better than the french press, but it does make it a lot smoother and the cup has absolutely no grounds or mud in it.

I roast my own coffee now, and this the perfect companion to the roaster for the way I like coffee, which is smooth, consistent, and flavorful. Plus it is fun to watch it work. The included bottom glass makes enough to for two normal sized coffee cups or one large mug for the road. It includes 5 cloth filters, and I have used the same one for many months now. Daily cleanup is with the sink sprayer which gets the filter clean enough for more use. Then once a week, I pull the filter out of the metal holder and clean it up well.

The amazon page states quite a long lead time for shipping, but it came in just over a week--which was great.

If you love a French Press, but want to move into something a bit more elegant and exotic to make coffee the Siphon Based System is just the answer. I opted for this device because it is fueled by Butane Gas the same gas to fill Cigarette Lighters.

If you love hot coffee that is not burnt or over cooked, and you wish to get away from the paper filters, this Siphon Pot of perfect. I loved it.

My parents used a vacuum coffee maker back in the 1950's...that being said the absolutely best cup of coffee I've ever had in my life was in Jakarta (on, of course, the island of Java) from a table-top vacuum coffee maker.

This product makes absolutely perfect coffee. The presentation for guests is amazing.

YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS COFFEE MAKER.

Honest reviews on Yama Glass 5 cup Tabletop Ceramic 20oz Syphon w/Butane Burner

You wouldn't be investigating this product if you didn't love your coffee, so the fact that this is more work than a drip machine is likely irrelevant to you. The payoff for (not really all that much) extra work is a great cup. Once you've gone a few rounds with this method, the end to end time (burner-on to coffee-down) is less than 10 minutes. Actual brewing, which is the only part where you actually need to pay close attention, is 2 minutes. And man, the coffee is good.

I have no fewer than 6 coffeemaking appliances -ancient Bodum Santos Electric (a warhorse that I used constantly for over 10 years, still works like new...sadly, Bodum stopped making these); reasonable mid-line drip machine (only use when I need to produce a volume of coffee for guests); a Bodum french press; an Aeropress (pretty cool, makes a smooth cup); a Coleman percolator we use for camping; and the Yama. They all have something to recommend them, but my runaway favorite is the Yama.

The manufacturer has made an honest attempt to make this unit pretty, with the floral scrolling in the base and its overall design. Even so, the first impression is that it's a bit rickety-looking. The screw-on uprights move a bit, and the whole thing flexes in a mildly unnerving way. But I've brewed well in excess of 100 pots in the Yama and it shows no sign of wear or failure. Nowadays I don't even question its sturdiness...it has help up just fine.

A few weeks into usage, I started getting a nasty flavor note. After some investigation online, I determined that it was buildup on the 3 cloth filters. I tried the various methods that were suggested for cleaning them, but was never able to completely eliminate that off-note, so I tossed them. There are two excellent alternatives to the cloth filters. First, you can use the paper filters for Aeropress. They are very inexpensive and fit well. They do deposit a little more sediment in the cup, but some people like that. Since I don't, I tried another method, which is a Yama stainless steel filter. Make sure you wash the steel filter well before putting it to work, as it does present a slighty metallic taste on first use. But it doesn't leave as much sediment as the paper filters, produces a cup that I think is as good as the cloth filters, and most importantly doesn't get nasty with use. It rinses clean under a faucet, and stands up to repeated use. Mine has had most of those >100 pots pass through it, and it's still in fine shape.

I think the butane burner is the most effective of the available means of producing heat. Stovetop would probably work if you have a gas stove, but electric stovetops are too up-and-down on the temperatures, making for more drama than needed during the brewing process. Alcohol burners work ok, but they take longer than butane burners....a lot longer, in my experience.

YMMV, but for my money, vac pots are the best way to brew coffee. I'm giving the Yama 5 stars because it is a good value for the money, it hits its design goal beautifully, and for me it has stood up to a lot of use. It does everything it is purported to do, and it makes killer brew.

Very happy with this syphon. Have made some very nice coffee with it. Only down side is the plastic service handle around neck of the bowl which broke quickly but is easily fixed.

I have bought 3 machines and have had to send back for compressor breakdown problems. Newairs website they say they they have fixed compressor problems on this model. so its up to you if you want to take a chance on the newly updated"compresser". Also it took me a month to get a new replacement unit kind of a pain when it's 90 degrees outside. The second unit worked for not even a week like 4 hours of continuous operation I had to send that back at my own expense.. So after that I just got a refund

i'm sweating as i write this. basically it doesn't work, too loud, i'm sending it back. does not work!!!!!!!!!!! the reviews were very good online but it just doesn't work.

Have had this about 3 or 4 months. Got it for the upstairs bedroom. Does not cool off the room at all with everything closed up. Room about 400SF with bathroom. Close off bathroom and still not much help. My wive does not like the noise. It is very noisy even on low.

Honest reviews on NewAir AC-14100E Portable Air Conditioner

This product is cheaply made and doesn't really cool off the room. I had previously bought another brand and it wasn't available right now, so I bought this one with the same specs for another room. Big mistake. It will probably last only a couple of months. The plastic is cheap, thin and it bends and will probably break easily. The area with the controls sinks in when you go to turn it on or off. If you are spending this kind of moneyyou want something that will work and hold up more than a month or two. Because of the packaging, we could not figure out how to send this back or we definately would have. BUYER BEWARE.

Before I begin the review, I just want to say usually I do not take the time to review anything unless I really am very, VERY pleased. So, with that information in mind:

I live in a small studio (about 470 sqft) in a major city on the east coast. My building is old, and apparently (according to the Super) the air conditioning does not turn on until the first of June (go figure). Well, that's all fine and dandy until we had a heat wave with one night (yes, NIGHT) in the mid/high 80's this spring. I tried to grin and bear it for a couple of nights, but when I woke in a sweat with a heat rash, I knew I couldn't take any more nights like that. So, needless to say, after calling my Dad for advice and searching through the internet looking for an answer to my dilemma I finally decided that Amazon was the way to go. Living in a city is nice, but most don't realize how hard it really is to get things in and out of an apartment in a large city...especially something like this. I read many, MANY reviews and finally realized that there was no real "perfect" portable air conditioner (I have sliding windows, so no traditional window unit for me). I went with this unit, swallowed the price tag (the cheapest of the 14000 btu with a fairly good rating), and paid the extra $4 in shipping so I wouldn't have to sleep another night in the heat.

So, that was yesterday, and it arrived today. I was able to push the box right to my front door and lift it out of the box with moderate effort (nothing like a good work out). One negative I have about this is the directions are super vague and you really have to figure it out for yourself somewhat. I was determined, though, to get that thing set up ASAP. It took me about an hour from start to finish (unpacking the box to plugging it in). WITHIN 20 TO 30 MINS OF HAVING IT PLUGGED IN, THE TEMP WENT FROM 85 TO 77. I call this a HUGE improvement. It has been running for about an hour and a half now on high and it is feeling SO much better. Yes, the unit is fairly loud, but I am used to sleeping with a HEPA air purifier on high, so the noise to me is no different. Sleep mode is a bit quieter, but honestly I look at the noise as a small price to pay. If it's hot, then you just got to put on your big boy or girl panties and get used to the noise. The cool will be worth it. Now, be advised that I literally JUST installed this unit TODAY. If there are any problems I will edit this to give all of you better information.

Hopefully this helps someone in need who, like me, is desperate. Happy cooling!!!

Best Candle Warmers Etc. Auto Shutoff Candle Warmer Deals

Candle Warmers Etc. Auto Shutoff Candle Warmer, White
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars
Buy Now
I bought this with free shipping with Amazon Prime in black. This electric candle warmer has some very good features for the money. It melts the wax and diffuses the candle scent fairly quickly. The cord is sufficiently long and the warmer has an auto shutoff feature after 8 hours of use. This warmer will work well with both jar candles and candles in metal tins, but you will probably have some wax leakage from metal tins. If you want the scent to diffuse rapidly, you should use a 3.5 oz. or slightly larger jar candle.

The wax will melt entirely, so most likely you will not be able to light the candle again because the wick will drift, and you'll probably want to entirely remove it with tweezers or tongs. What you'll find is that even though the amount of wax will stay fairly constant, the candle scent will weaken over time, so you may want to try adding some essential oil prior to turning on the warmer or blending several candles together. If you want this for daily use around your home, you may want to pick up a few warmers and also look for some good deals on small jar candles. Since the wax will melt entirely, you can get creative and combine candles taking care not to burn yourself because the melted wax will be hot. You cannot burn the candle and use the warmer at the same time. The other nice thing about this warmer is that you can take it with you when you travel because it's lightweight and won't take up much space. It is also suitable for use in a bedroom, dorm room or other place where an open flame would not be a good idea. You can also use candle tarts or scent tarts if you put them in a glass container, but it is generally recommended that you melt 3.5 oz. to 18 oz. of wax at one time. Enjoy!

I still love these and I have them distributed around my house. They work really well, and you will get a lot more hours out of your candles if you use this warmer. They make a great gift for anyone!

I bought 3-oz. candles at CVS (pumpkin, sugar cookie, evergreen, Christmas spice) for $1 (or less when on sale) and they last and last. CVS sells these seasonal scents from Candle-lite and they work perfectly with this warmer.

The other thing that you need to know is that the on/off switch often requires you to turn it on several times until you see the red light. Also sometimes if the power goes off and then comes on, these warmers will turn on as well, so it's good to place them where it will never be a problem for them to come on when you aren't expecting this to happen.

I definitely advise against metal tin candles, but they will work in a pinch.

Highly recommended product.

June 11, 2012 I still highly recommend this product. This is a very good solution for adding fragrance to your home. The CVS candles for 99 cents are a good way to have long-lasting scent. One warmer can scent two to three adjacent rooms. I keep one in the kitchen and it "wafts" into the dining room and living room.

I really dig this candle warmer. I guess it doesn't immediately scent the place as the one writer complained, but I like the "set it and forget it" feature. After awhile, the scent fills the whole floor. I don't mind waiting a little bit for the scent to form. That's good enough for me -plus, you don't have the hassle with sooty air conditioner filters, dirty air, and open flames. I use the very large Yankee candles and I haven't had to wait long for the scent to fill the air. Maybe there might be a problem if you use the small candles. I used to go through candles so fast but using this candle warmer, the candle seems to last forever. What a cost savings!! I bought an extra one to use in my office as a coffee warmer for a big mug of hot coffee. It really keeps it lovely and hot. Plus, I love the auto shut off feature -it's hard to find that in a coffee warmer. Update Mar 2013: My warmer is still chugging along and I use it several times a week. It's a winner.

Best Deals for Candle Warmers Etc. Auto Shutoff Candle Warmer

I bought this in black for use in my home. I run a home daycare and am not allowed to burn candles during daycare hours. This is perfect for me. I hardly ever burn candles anymore. I have had other warmers, but none that turned off automatically. I feel much better turning it on knowing that in 8 hours it will turn off and will not be left on. The cord is long, which is a bonus. I will be ordering a few more for around the house. The price($8.99) is great and with prime shipping, it is a great deal. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a good quality candle warmer for a decent price.

Discount Dyson AM04 Hot Heater Fan - White with Silver Trim

Dyson AM04 Hot Heater Fan - White with Silver Trim
Customer Ratings: 3 stars
Buy Now
I bought my Dyson Hot heater for one simple reason, curiosity.

The Dyson sounded promising and made the pitch that it was something truly new and revolutionary so I bit and got one....a white one!

At first glance the quality looked good, fit and finish were tight and it looked good on the surface.

Sitting down, I kicked back and prepared to enjoy reading the manual....that was short lived as it had lots of information on warranty and legal guck and only the most basic of operation information with absolutely no information showing specifications, no power use...no Heat output....nothing

Moving on I plugged it into the power use tester to see how much power it would consume and in return how much heat it put out at 12 inches away.

Power use was high especially considering how low the temperature it was putting out, for example of the ten temp ranges (here are three examples): Level 1: 1207 watts @ 102 degrees ambient at 12 inches...Level 5: 1280 watts @ 108 degrees at 12 inches ambient and Level 10: 1391 watts @ 105 degrees at 12 inches ambient...I can rub my hands together and get higher temps, these are dismally low numbers when compare to my 5 year old HOTBLAST Ceramic heater that puts out 142 degrees at 24 inches at 750 watts.

True the heater is being touted as SAFE and it is, but it has no more safety features than any $15.00 heater, not even a grounded plug....both have tip over protection and overload protection but claiming to be safe while you sit there freezing as your power meter spins, little conciliation since this is SUPPOSED to be a heater first and foremost not some over priced thing ah ma jig!

Now comes the real fun....in the three weeks I have owned it, from day one the thermostat has been mis-behaving, (dysfunctional). It turns off when it reaches the preset shutoff but between 30 seconds to two minutes later turns right back on and just continues this off and on routine indefinitely or until you manually shut the heater off.

Then there is mis-calibrated thermostat between three to five degrees high when in operation (it says it is 68 degrees when in reality two other thermostats placed right next to the base confirm it is actually only 64.

Dyson's HOT selling points are as follows:

1. Brushless motor (the fan / heater industry has used them for over 20 years)

2. Air Multiplier Technology ( Ducted fans have been used in portable heaters for over 50 years)

3. Long Range heat projection, (this I will agree with, Dyson has figured it out that smooth low pressure air flow is better than high pressure when it comes to heat, the faster it moves the more is dissipates and the more heat is lost, unfortunately the high energy requirement to generate the low heat output from this heater means energy efficiency and heat production is poor at best.

4. Safety features (nothing new here virtually all portable electrics have had tip over and overload protection for the past ten years and this heater also lacks one of the MOST important feature.....a GROUNDED PLUG!)

5. Precise temperature control (a very standard digital temperature control that with the Dyson lacks timed use feature and in my samples case had debilitating issues....see above)

6. No Worry Burning Smell (burning dust odor is typical of the environment it is used in and old wire or nichrome type heaters which have long since been replaced by cheaper aluminum PTC elements, the Dyson does have micro fine air intakes but deep inside it also has a secondary filter that is not easily serviced to stop any dirt from getting into the heating elements from the impeller itself, unfortunately THIS is what will plug and heat output and efficiency will be reduced significantly. Other odors the Dyson Hot WILL pick up because it is made of plastic will be food and environmental odors).

7. High Air Flow Cooling Fan ( because this is a heater the fan velocity has been greatly reduced over the Dyson fan and is simply no better than the fan mode available on 95% of all portable heaters over the past five years)

8. Complete Control with its remote control unit (again, nothing new here as most mid range portable heaters $19.95 and above have them but the Dyson is different in that it is tiny and very easy to loose).

Dyson claims they took three years and 22 engineers to come up with this,if so I seriously want to know where they were educated because in the end the Dyson HOT is simply no better than most $15.00 portable electric heaters when it comes to safe heating.

P.T. Barnum said it best "There is a Sucker Born Every Minute"....or Captain Jack Sparrow "Take what ya can....GIVE NOTHIN' BACK"....that's this heater then there is the salt in the wound, not even made in the UK....made in Malaysia because labor is 30% cheaper!

Sorry Dyson, I had really hoped for just a grain of truth but your product simply does not prove out at many levels...If B.S. were heat, the Dyson HOT could heat the world!

This product is amazing. Not as a heater but as a conversation piece and a work of industrial art. You can buy a simple couch at Ikea and it will do just fine or you can buy an expensive Italian sofa for ten times as much and be proud. You can buy a boring but functional suit for 200 bucks or you can get a tailored one for three grand. This heater does what it says and it looks great doing it. My only real gripe is that it can be a bit noisy but not more noisy than a traditional one. And I kind of wish it was ceramic. That would have extra cool factor.

This warmer looks nice on my desk, but it isn't the greatest. It has two settings, but I couldn't see using the "Low" setting. The "High" setting keeps my coffee warm, not hot. It also puts off a smell of hot metal. The smell may wear off eventually, I've only had it about a month. I would buy one of the less expensive warmers if I had it to do over again.

This beverage warmer is over priced. It has two settings which are both mediocre. The hottest setting barely keeps the coffee or tea warm. Given the price, it was a major disappointment and not worth the money.

A lot of reviewers have stated that this hot plate does not get warm enough to keep your coffee hot. I disagree, but also think I know why they are having that experience. How well this warmer works is extremely sensitive to the shape of your coffee mug, in particular the way that the bottom is. I did some controlled experiments to determine how much heat this warmer puts into a liquid in a cup and found as much as 30 degrees of variation between different mugs of the same or similar material.

The bottom line, is that any hotplate style coffee warmer depends on maximum surface area contact with the bottom of your mug. If you have a mug that is broad and flat at the bottom, filling the heating surface of the warmer, it will work great. If you mug is very narrow at the bottom or arches up so that only the edge is touching, the heater cannot be as effective.

You should either buy a different mug, or forego this energy wasting method altogether, in favor of a well insulated stainless steel vacuum mug like the ones from Contigo. Personally, I like the taste of coffee best out of a real mug, so I continue to use this warmer, just with a broad based mug.

I have used it for about a week and it does a nice job of keeping coffee warm at pretty much the same temperature.

Update 11/21/2010: Several times now, the power light has gone off but if I jiggle it a tad bit it comes back on. It only does this once in a while but I am downgrading it to 3 stars. It still heats really well but if I have further problems I will let you know.

11/25/2010: It is becoming more sensitive to staying on and I am not sure how much longer it's gonna last!! Down grading to 2 stars instead of 1 because when it works, it does a good job.

12/17/2010: Becoming even more difficult to get it to stay on. This is a piece junk....don't buy!

This little device has been satisfactory for my uses. I place my ceramic cup of coffee on it and the coffee remains warm but does not get hot and lose its taste. My only dislike is the switch because I don't like roller switches and I thought, from the illustrations, that what turned out to be a red light, was the on/off switch. Overall, recommended by this buyer/user.

I've petty well worn out my cup warmer and I got this one mainly because it looked compact and also because of the price. It's ok but the on/off switch is in the cord and I just don't like that. I can't use it for work because I don't have a way to place the cord to get to the switch so I now have a cup warmer at home to use by my chair. That's pretty handy, keeps my coffe nice and hot and the cord can dangle down and be reached with no problem. It worked out well after all, but I wouldn't buy it again. It arrived in good condition and within the specified time so I have no problem with the seller.

I just got the box from Amazon, pulled out my new Aerolatte, removed the protective cover from the battery compartment (yeah, it even comes pre-loaded with a pair of "aerolatte" double A's!), and put about 2 oz of NON-FAT (skim) milk in a glass.

I nuked the milk for about 20 seconds, pulled it from the microwave, stuck the aerolatte in the glass and pushed the switch.

DANG!!

Nearly INSTANT foam. GOBS of it. It formed PEAKS!! You could make small milk-animals out of it.

I really can't believe how well this thing works. The only thing that would ruin it for me is if it simply fell apart after a few uses, but frankly, with a little bit of care, it looks like it'll hold up. We'll see.

But in the meantime, call me Doctor Foam.

-Jonathan Sabin

UPDATE ***9 MONTHS LATER***

Notwithstanding the complaints of people who claim that their aerolatte lasted about 5 minutes, I just replaced the batteries for the first time since buying it back in January. (Yes, it still works, but I was disappointed that I was no longer able to make foam-animals!)

Well a couple of fresh Duracells later, and I sound like a deranged dentist with this thing in my hand. The "buzz" I had become accustomed to, is now a high-pitched whizzing sound, that actually made my molars uncomfortable.

But I'm back to making some seriously decent foam again!

I have owned this for about 5 years. I use a stover top espresso maker which works about as well as electric steam type. I have found that the electric pump type that are less than $250.00 don't work that well, and take up too much counter space in a small kitchen. This does work, but I found something that froths milk much better than this and much faster.

Use a small Bodum 4 cup French Press. Put your milk in the French Press (not the same one you are making your coffee in. Get a second smaller one) and rapidly work the plunger up and down for about 10 to 20 seconds. You have frothier milk in less than half the time and you won't need to change batteries every two weeks.

Best Deals for Aerolatte Milk Frother, Satin

This works amazingly well. We've used it for a poor-man's latte by microwaving milk, then frothing it to simulate steamed milk, then mixing it with various coffees. We've also used it to froth hot chocolate. Doesn't work that well for making whipped cream.

Honest reviews on Aerolatte Milk Frother, Satin

I'm pleasantly surprised at the thick, firm, yet light, foam this product produces from homemade soy milk ... all that with my very first attempt! Now, I can experiment with some light flavors. Trust me ... this is a no brainer! My only regret is that I waited so long to give this little gadget a try. I'm at the bottom of my first large cup of coffee using this little frother, and the froth/foam had such staying power that I'm having to use a spoon to get the last it from the cup. Thank you Areolatte!!

UPDATE 12/22/06: Boy oh boy, how I love Aerolatte frothers!! I now own three of these little gadgets! I recently bought 2 more from the online Aerolatte distributor. The very newest top-of-the-line model is all stainless (even the handle), has a thicker stainless stem, and comes with a large stainless stand. Then, they have the black molded plastic one that comes with it's own sturdy grey, protective, plastic container with a cap on one end (not the one with the tin case) for on the road. I just can't seem to contain myself with how happy I am with this product! I hope this review is useful to some who might have doubt.

Performs as described, makes loads of creamy frothy milk for your coffee. (I found that frothed half-and-half gets thicker and is foamier for longer than soy milk. The joys of extra fat.) We can make tons of cappuccinos and lattes at home with our own coffee. Starbucks who?

We were very happy with the first SPT SU-3750 Ultrasonic Penguin-Shaped Humidifier humidifier we bought, so we a pig, and eventually, five more penguins. I liked the penguin better than the pig from the start, and I still do, even though my review for the penguins is now less favorable than it was at first. I haven't bothered to look for a replacement.

DO THEY WORK? Yes, the our only pig and four of the six penguins do. I can run the penguins faster than the pig, because mist starts leaking out around the pig's face and getting the shelf wet if I turn it up too much (or don't get the face seated right.) We usually run each penguin for about 18 hours, and the pig for 20-22, with each roughly 1 gallon tank-full. Mist starts coming out immediately when you turn it on.

MODEL: I don't like the pig as well as the penguin because the mist comes out the pig's snout, which is not at the very top. It's easy to not get the face seated correctly on the body, and then mist comes out all over, getting your shelf wet. Even it the face is seated properly, if you run it full steam, some mist comes out around the edges of the face. (Not to mention that mist comming out the snout is a little gross. Also, the red light by the knob makes the pink bottom part glow in a dark room, which I find slightly creepy.)

NOISE: Most of them are pretty quiet, altough they do generate some white noise, and you occasionally hear bubbles as the base "gulps" water from the tank.

CLEANING: I rarely do. I love that these stay pretty clean with basically no maintenance. We had a cool mist humidifier with a filter that quickly grew all kinds of orange stuff, and warm mist vaporizers that create black shale-like stuff in the tanks, so these penguins are better. I use regular tap water, and we do get a little white dust/mineral deposit film from these (which is much worse with one unit than with the other three), and after a couple months I've noticed stuff starting to grow, mainly in the parts where the mist comes up & out. It would be nice if the base didn't still have a bunch of water in it when you take off the tank, so you could easily let everything dry out every now and then or so to keep stuff from growing.

FILLING: You take off the face, lift off the tank (the clear part), flip it over and unscrew a cap on the bottom of the tank, and fill it in a sink or bathtub. It's nice that it fits in a regular bathroom sink. It would be nicer if you could bring a jug of water to the pig and fill it in place, without turning it upside down, or at least if it wouldn't drip when you carry the tank.

SUITABLE AROUND KIDS: Yes. The mist & units are cool, so little kids can't get burned. And they're cute. My 2 1/2 year old loves "raking the smoke", slicing a spatula through the mist. He does turn the ones on the counter on and off.

MAKE SURE: 1) It's high enough above the floor that the floor won't get wet. (A 42" counter is fine, lower may be ok too.) 2) the tank is seated properly: a couple bubbles rising will let you know that the tank is back on the base correctly. Otherwise, it will use up the water in the base, then stop making mist even though the tank is still full.

This is a really great humidifier if you're looking for something inexpensive, with no filters to replace. It's very simple, easy to use and really puts out a lot of steam (adjustable, of course). Since it goes through the water quickly, it doesn't build up pink gunk like other more expensive humidifiers weve tried. The only thing that's a little tricky is getting the water tank back on the base without splashing a few drops. But overall, it's a pig with steam coming out it's snout! What's not to love?

I've had this humidifier for 2 years now, and it's still going strong. After two years, the LED light indicator has definitely gone out, but the main function still works well. I've never had a problem with leaks. Other than the LED light, this humidifier works just as well as the day I bought it. Great value for a simple product.

I ordered this pig last month, and I don't know how I ever lived without it! I run it mostly while I'm awake, as I have a fear of running appliances unattended, but lately I've caught a cold and have been running it at night as well. Not only does it work wonderfully (great control for mist output!), but many of my friends have expressed how jealous they are, as they own plain, boring humidifiers. So unless you're really boring, don't feel silly buying the pig!

Refilling is easy, and I've had no issues placing the tank back on the base (it was somewhat tricky the first day, but never again). Although it's not the recommendation, I've been using tap water, with no negative effects so far. Though, I do plan on switching to filtered soon, as I love my pig and want him to have a good life.

My husband and I both love this humidifier. It works great and it is sooo cute. I especially like how it can go for 2 full days on low to med with one full tank of water. With one full tank of water it will go for a couple of hours on high. I would recommend this one to all my family and friends.

This is a great unit and just like it states it is wisper quiet. Easy to read digital temp. Took about 5 min to warm a 63 degree room to 72! Takes up little space, I put mine in the corner and you don't even know its there. It is also an attractive unit that I don't mind having in any room of the house. The remote controol is a plus also. I Did not think I needed it, but now that I have it, I love that feature also. There is an easy to use timer on the unit also. That is a nice feature so you don't forget to turn it off when you go to work etc. I am thinking about ordering another one as this is such a handy unit. With heating costs this winter it is a money saver to use this electric unit to supplement your heat.

I bought this heater for my living room. I have central heat and air, but this helps me save money on my heating bill. It's slightly more expensive than other ceramic heaters, but it has an air purifier and a remote control. None of the cheaper ceramic heaters have those features. You don't realize how handy the remote control is unless you have owned an electric heater without one. You can make minor adjustments to its thermostat with the remote control. You can adjust the thermostat from 64 to 90 degrees. It has a big, bright LCD display on the front that shows the temperature and other information. Many people seem to prefer those electric oil-filled heaters, but some of them can take forever to heat up a room. This heater produces a lot of heat quickly. It's rated at 5,200 BTUs. A small air conditioner has a rating of about 10,000 BTUs. It also has the ability to automatically alternate between high and low power when it's in AUTO mode. It doesn't always use 1500 watts of electricity because of that. Sometimes it will only use 950 watts if a room is already warm. The Sunpentown SH-1508 is the best electric heater I have ever owned.

I would have to give this rating a one star unfortunately. THe heater while in itself is a great cost you must be warned of the manufacturing of the product itself. I have two of these heaters purchased within a few weeks of each other. One worked well, we were so pleased that we ordered another (my roomies and myself) unfortunately the first one came broken, making a horrible clicking sound and the company (SPT)has refused to help. Amazon did send a replacement for the first and then the second one arrived making an horrible buzzing noise. Amazon was not willing to replace this one. Today is the 8th week of owning both the heaters. THe first one's face plate caught fire today because of poor wiring used in the assembly of the heater, and the second one I am afraid will do the same. This product almost set fire to my house and everything that we own.

I cannot reccomend this product to anyone. Although the price is fine (money wise) is it really worth risking far much more than sixty something dollars if it costs you your life? I do not think so. I am so upset by this that I will write to amazon.com today strongly recommending that this product be removed from their site. Because if three products have thus far been malfunctioning who knows how many more of these are out there will similar situations. So far I have found over 200 similar stories about this product. Thank you for your time and I wish you the best of luck in finding whateever it may be that you are looking for.

Happy Holidays everyone.

This machine is larger than many ceramic models but nice looking and heats very well. The fan is very quiet. I like that you can use it as a fan without heat as well. My only complaint is that the blue LCD that tells the temperature does not dim or shut off and is VERY bright. Too bright for a bedroom. Really lights it up. I'll be looking for some way of safely masking it. Otherwise very nice but hope it lasts.

OCTOBER 08' UPDATE:

2 California coastal winters (mild and short) and it's dead. Well not dead, but working erratically (noisy, not shutting off when the room reaches the Auto shut off temp, ...) No longer safe or usable.

For the bright light, I masked it with electrical tape. Safe and effective.

After reading dozens of reviews on dozens of heaters, I gave up and ordered what looked good. So far, I very happy with this one. Although assembly was indicated, it came fully assembled. It heats my son's bedroom (10 x 12) in very short order and it takes the chill off my living room (16 x 22). I switched to a pellet heater as my primary fuel and there are some areas of my home that just stay cool. I'm confident this will do the job on all but the coldest of days (Mid-Michigan). The directions are easy to understand and the remote is simple to use. The only drawback is the LED panel is super bright for my sleeping preference (great nightlight for a kid) and when the timer (max 7.5 hour) shuts the unit off, it seems to erase the preset room temp. It then defaults back to 75 degrees. Could be I haven't figured it out yet but either way, that's a minor thing to me. Overall, I think I got a good deal on a good heater.
