I've been looking for a programmable kettle that didn't cost an absurd amount, and I think I've finally found it. This replaces my old on/off boil kettle also made by Hamilton Beach the fact that kettle lasted for 5+ years (and was relatively cheap when I bought it) was a strong factor in my decision to buy another Hamilton Beach.

Pros (some of these comparing to some other kettles I've tried):

1) Nice brushed stainless exterior.

2) Push button handle to open the lid a nice change from the detached lid my previous kettle had.

3) Pour can be controlled fairly well for pour-over coffee.

4) Temperature adjustment in 5 degree increments. That means I can set this to 195F and get exactly the results I want. Others I've tried only had a few settings.

5) Fairly accurate thermostat. I've tested this with my old standby the probe thermometer (which I've used to make coffee for years as well), and this kettle is always within a degree of my other thermometer. Both might be horribly inaccurate, but at least they are consistently inaccurate together.

6) Live thermostat reading on the display. This tells you exactly how hot the kettle is while it's heating up. That's handy for timing things.

7) 1 hour "keep warm" setting which periodically re-heats the water. Either this works really well, or the carafe holds the heat in better, but I'm experiencing no heat loss during the time it takes to make coffee. My old kettle would lose 10 degF in the time the pot took to brew. Either way, I'm loving this kettle.

8) Solid feeling. It's not super heavy, but it doesn't feel cheap.

Cons:

1) Hard to read LED display this thing's a pain under our under counter lighting in the kitchen. It's *good enough*, but crap. An LCD display would have been a *lot* better.

2) Really unresponsive and hard to use UI. There's a few buttons to press to change target temperature and if you get it wrong, you'll set a start timer instead. The display flashes between two pieces of info a lot of the time, so it can be annoying to wait for the info you want.

All in all, given it's "only" $50, I'd say this kettle is a great deal.

Ever since seeing a programmable kettle in a store I've wanted one. I make anything from Cold Brew coffee (212 F or boiling), French Press coffee (best at 180 F), Black Tea (Boiling again), to green tea (175 F to 180 F). The cost was always a factor though since I already owned a cheap GE kettle that has lasted five years and still going. I saw this on sale and decided it was time. It works really well. You just put the kettle on, click the program button till you find the temperature you want, then click on/off button. It boils a little slower than my GE, but it gets to the programmed temperature and then holds that temp for an hour, which can be nice. You can program it to turn on in the morning, which seems a little more complicated with only four buttons, but I haven't had the need so I haven't used it. The temperature has been right on, you can't go wrong with this. The inside is all metal, so no plastic taste in the water.

I purchased this tea kettle at my local box store for $10 off list price when it was on sale. I was skeptical that a kettle in this price range would be any good and I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the clock setting is annoying but I just waited until noon and uplugged it then set the clock. I don't think I will ever use the time delay program because it heats so fast that I can turn it on in the morning and in a couple of minutes it's ready. It literally seems like by the time I get my cup & tea ready I've got hot water. Love that this is stainless steel, that there are temp setting for all kinds of tea (especially green which is my tea of choice) and that the kettle will keep water warm for 60 minutes after it's first done. When you take the kettle off the base the temp display will disappear but as soon as you put it back on the base the temp will reappear and the 60 minute count down will continue. I was considering spending $130 for a kettle with similar features and I'm so glad I did not and I have $90 more in my pocket. I highly recommend this especially if you get it on sale.

This kettle arrived in three days as promised well packed and in good condition. I've never had an electric kettle before and I was thrilled to have it. I noticed the cord was shorter than I'd like (about two feet, I think) which limits me but I found a place for it. I noticed my hand would not fit inside the opening so I wondered how I was supposed to wash it then I read the instructions and they say to boil water and discard several times to clean it for use. That was easy and very quick, especially when starting with hot tap water. The base instantly told me the temperature of my tap water and as soon as I hit the power button the temperature started climbing, I think about a degree every second. It didn't take long to boil a full pot five times. After that, I used cool filtered water to boil a liter. It was quick enough and made making tea easier than my previous arrangement of heating a mug of water in the microwave. It allowed me to pour the hot water over my tea rather than dropping dry tea on top of hot water. I still haven't tried using it for temperatures below boiling yet but I can barely wait to make some green tea.

Now I've made green tea. The kettle works as advertised, preset temperatures adjustable with the plus and minus buttons. It worked better for my green tea than I'd been managing with a microwave. I've used this appliance several times each day now for several days. It came in handy to add boiling water to soup.

I have been searching high and low for an electric kettle that I can set the temperature on. Most of the ones I found were too pricey or the cheap ones had horrible ratings. This one seemed to be a good fit, it was not expensive and the rating was good. I had a Hamilton Beach regular kettle before and never had an issue with it, so I feel comfortable with this brand.

I only used this kettle 3 times so far, so this my first impression. I will update it if anything changes my opinion.

THE GOOD:

*Comfortable to hold, even when full of water.

*Easy to read water level

*Heats the water very very quickly. It was ready by the time I had my cup and tea ready and waiting.

*Convenient 5 temperature presets.

*Shows you the current temperature of the water

*Very accurate temperature gauge. I took the temperature with my digital thermometer and it was within 0.6 degrees fahrenheit of what I set it too.

*Holds the water temperature very very well. After I heated the water to 190 degrees, I turned off the kettle and hours later the water was around 120 degrees. This is convenient since it will heat the second batch even quicker.

THE BAD:

*Terribly non-intuitive controls. This is something I rarely recommend, but please take the 2 minutes time to read the small manual. With the instructions, setting the time and temperature was not too difficult. Once, you learn how to control it, its pretty easy. But don't try learning it yourself.

I purchased one of these small TPI 178 TMC heaters a few years back and I was honestly never much impressed with it. While it was quiet, it hardly had any air or heat output even when run on max fan and max heating. However, I found a perfect application for it, and that was my above-ground well house. Since it is a small 8 ft x 10 ft well-insulated outbuilding, I actually couldn't have a larger output heater in it during the winter months without it putting too much heat out for the small space. Later, I installed a thermostatically-controlled small baseboard heater in my well house and the TPI heater didn't see a lot of regular use after that (as I had a number of other, better heaters).

Then, when I was recently using it, the black plastic swivel mount housing fractured in half, which completely separated the heater unit from its base, which rendered the heater non-operational. I wrote to TPI to see if I could purchase a replacement plastic swivel mount, but as I surmised before hand, they essentially had no parts for the heater as it was imported with no parts support. After some back and forth, I am pleased to report that TPI stood behind the heater (which was LONG out of warranty), and they shipped me a completely new heater at no charge (even for the shipping). I have to say that I was very impressed with TPI for doing this in an era where customer service can be rather poor and companies' standing behind their products has become something of the exception rather than the rule.

As a bonus, the new TPI 178 TMC heater put out far more heat and fan power than the old one ever did. Based on this, I can in fact recommend this little heater and especially TPI as a company.

I had this heater for several months under my desk now, and I love it. It is usually working on keeping my toes warm, but once its setting "fan only" saved my iPhone that was dropped into water (iPhone recovered after a day of drying and works fine). I don't keep it running all the time, but it heats up in a matter of seconds, so a couple of minutes is enough to get warm. I don't think I would like it on the entire day because I can still hear the fan even though it is not that loud as far as fan forced heaters go.

As an experienced cook with many years of cooking with Induction under my belt, I would like to share my experience, and clear up a lot of bad information propagated by some well meaning, but totally unqualified people who have submitted comments about the Max Burton 6000 Induction Cooker. I am also an Electronics & Mechanical Engineer, giving me additional insight into some of the issues being discussed.

First off, this Induction Cooker is a tremendous bargain, comparing favorably with products many times its cost. It is truly an 1800 Watt (input) Induction Cooker. Induction Cookers cannot be compared in any way to simple hotplates that use a resistive heating element. Electric hotplates, similar to conventional gas and electric burners are at best around 50% efficient. The wasted heat simply goes into heating your kitchen and makes your stove and cookware handles scorching hot. Induction Cooking is typically 80-90% efficient. Remember that even though the Max Burton 6000 is a great value, it is still a light duty, "entry level" Induction Cooker (NOT for continuous commercial cooking use). If it is used properly, it should give years of reliable service. Even though I own a big Wolf commercial gas range, Induction hobs such as this have become my cooking "weapon of choice".

You can consider the following to be "Induction Cooking 101". This will help cooks who are new to Induction Cooking get a quick grip on the basics:

Cookware: Your satisfaction with Induction Cooking is directly proportional to the quality of your cookware. The cookware MUST have the following two characteristics:

First: At least the bottom must be ferrous (in other words, a magnet must strongly "stick" to it). Hint: Take a magnet with you when searching for cookware.

Second: Your cookware must also be a good heat conductor of heat. Induction cooking only generates heat in a 5-7" circle in the bottom of your pan. The heat conduction characteristics of the pan allow the heat to travel outward and up the sides of the pan. If the pan is a poor heat conductor, you will have a small hot spot in the center of the pan, and the rest will be relatively cool. The best cookware is triple-clad (magnetic stainless steel outside, aluminum or copper center layer, non-magnetic stainless interior cooking surface). Vollrath "Tribute" cookware is my favorite (not inexpensive, but really performs great!!). Next best is a laminated pad or "cap" on the bottom of a stainless pan (similar to the totally triple-clad, but doesn't conduct much heat far up the sides of the pan). Cast Iron and Enameled Cast Iron works fairly well for slow cooking and braising, but in spite of popular belief, it is not a great conductor of heat, and can exhibit hot spots if used at high heat settings. AGAIN, Induction Cooking has no radiant energy, nor a gas flame to heat the sides of your cookware. Your cookware MUST be a good heat conductor!

Yes you can preheat an empty pan (if you follow my directions)!. First a little information about the way your Induction Cooker senses the temperature of your pan. The heat sensor is located under the glass/ceramic cooking surface. Because of the thickness of this surface, it takes a finite amount of time for heat from the bottom of the pan to "soak" downward through the cooking surface in order to reach the temperature sensor. If you select a high heat or temperature setting initially, the pan will quickly get screaming hot before the heat sensor "knows" about it (a phenomenon called "overshoot"). The remedy is to start your pan in the "temp" mode at a low temp. setting (like 180°F). Once the pan, cooking surface and temp sensor has stabilized (you will hear a clicking sound as the cooker cycles the power on and off), you can advance to higher settings in a similar way and get on with your cooking.

I have read the comments about some users developing cracks in the top surface of the plastic housing to the left of the display & keypad. This is almost certainly caused by using cookware that laps over the edges of the cooking surface, or using very high heat settings, The flat part of the bottom of your cookware should not exceed 10 1/2" inches.

Unless you are bringing a pot of water to a boil, resist the temptation to cook at the higher heat and temperature settings unless it is really necessary. Remember that Induction Cooking pumps an astonishingly great amount of thermal energy into the BOTTOM of your cookware. Make sure that you and your cookware are up to the task!

The only big gripes that I have with the Max Burton 6000 is the INTOLERABLY LOUD BEEPER and the incredibly stiff, cheap power cord ("MAX", ARE YOU READING THIS??!!). As a qualified engineer, I have already "reasoned" with the beeper. . .

There's good news and bad news. I bought this unit as a training unit to check out the technology and have a good extra hob on hand for times when we strain our kitchen resources. The intent is to eventually equip our kitchen with an induction cooktop for energy efficiency.

The good news is that the technology works as advertised. It's remarkably quick and has plenty of power despite running off a normal power outlet. The bad news is that on this unit the heating element (if that is the correct terminology) is only about 7 to 8 inches across. It worked fine when we made soups, though we did notice that only the middle boiled or simmered. However, when frying, the limitation of the element size became a problem. We used a lodge 12" cast iron skillet to fry fish. The center of the pan put a beautiful tan on the panko, but the outside of the pan was relatively cool, requiring that each piece of fish be flipped to four positions before it was properly cooked.

We tested the unit by wetting the bottom of a cold pan and watching how it dried. The center bubbled and dried, but the outer bottom was only warm to the touch. I thought perhaps it was defective, but other reviewers have commented on the problem.

I notice that most of the units on the market do not specify the size of the heating element. Whether this exposes a problem with the technology or is just marketing avoiding a problem with inexpensive units I can't tell.

I am hopeful of the technology, but returned this unit because of it's limitations. If you only use smaller pans, or rarely, if ever, fry, I recommend it.

As has been mentioned before the first unit arrived broken.

1. The difference between the model 6200 and the 6000 is that the 6200 has a stainless steel skin, while the 6000 is black plastic. The innards and wattage are identical.

2. If you purchase this with 1-click ordering, you'll miss out on free shipping. Grrrrr. To avoid spending an extra $9.00 on postage, use the checkout cart instead.

3. If you want an excellent overview of induction cookers, look up the topic in wiki-pedia.

4. (Updated 8-2011). Someone in the comments below asked what the wattages are: When the "Power" mode is selected, Level 1: 200w. 2-500. 3-800. 4-1000. 5-1200. 6-1300. 7-1400. 8-1500. 9-1600. 10-1800w. When the "Temperature" mode is selected, the ranges (1-10) are (in degrees F): 140, 180, 210, 250, 280, 320, 360, 390, 430, 450.

5. (Updated 11-2012). I had not used the "Temperature" mode at all. A friend came over for Thanksgiving with his bacon/watercress soup (thick) and needed to re-heat it. After messing around with the "Power" and "Time" settings, he finally chose "Temperature" at 140. There was much less stirring, and no fussy regulation of a flame (all to avoid burning the soup on the bottom of the pan). He was mightily impressed, and since he is an excellent cook, I was mightily impressed too. Reminder: his excellent soup pot was aluminum, and so it would not heat at all (Error "E2" in the display, after two seconds). We loaned him a nice cast iron Le Creuset pot and all progressed smoothly. Remember that any pot that attracts a magnet will work (thus aluminum and most stainless steel won't work). Furthermore: the traditional cooks swarming and crowding the kitchen stove on Thanksgiving were just as glad to have him and the induction unit out on the patio, and out of the way.

What a find! This lightweight cooker is quite a workhorse. It boils water faster than my professional-grade Viking, and I can control the heat as quickly and precisely as I can on a gas range. From simmer to sear, it does it all. I teach cooking to kids, so I especially like that it's safer than other cooktops--no flame, and the surface stays relatively cool (there's some heat transfer from the pot, however, so you still need to be careful). Two drawbacks: you can only use induction-compatable cookware (anything that attracts a magnet will do), and you need a very reliable power supply, because this little guy requires a lot of juice.

You have to use the Max Burton Induction Cooktop to fully appreciate the induction cooking experience.

At your command are the power and instant response of an 11500 BTU gas burner without a natural gas line or a butane cylinder in sight. You're cooking with electricity, but unlike a hotplate, an induction cooktop doesn't emit a single degree of thermal energy. Switch it on without a pan in place and it just shuts itself off. Center a pot of water on the circles, crank the power up to the highest setting, and in minutes, the water's boiling like there's no tomorrow. Amazingly, you can rest your hand an eighth of an inch from the pan and the cooking surface is barely warm. At a half-inch, it's downright cool to the touch. In fact, about the only heat escaping into the room is from the steam itself. The cooking surface is producing NO heat of its own!

Don't believe me? Take the pot away, drop a paper napkin on the cooking surface and . . . nothing. No fireball, no billows of smoke, no glowing ashes flitting around the room. Yes, the surface is hot, but only because it absorbed some heat from the pot.

It's not magic. It's induction. Computer-controlled electromagnetic energy induces the bottom of the pot or pan to produce its own heat. It all seems so futuristic but in reality, it's been around since the previous century. As is true with all things electronic, the technology gets cheaper as it gets better. Today's countertop induction cookers are giving their built-in big brothers some real competition. Factor in portability and a small trade-off in power, and many folks are thinking twice about remodeling the kitchen. Just plug one or two of these into separate circuits, and your kitchen is ready for any season.

In the summer, use your induction cooker for stovetop cooking. And don't be afraid to crank up the A/C and turn the ceiling fan to High, even if you're simmering a delicate Hollandaise. There's no flame to blow out, so there's no danger of gassing up the kitchen.

In the winter, an induction cooktop becomes a handy keep-warm burner while the waste heat from conventional cooking warms up the kitchen. Of course, you already know you should NEVER use the stove or oven solely to heat the kitchen but when you're cooking in the dead of winter, that extra warmth won't go to waste.

Any time of year, induction is the method of choice for sustained low-heat cooking that would normally call for a double boiler.

And who says you have to keep it in the kitchen? I know folks who take their induction cookers out on the patio when the weather's nice or when they want to cook fish without smelling up the house for weeks. Max Burton even offers an induction-ready stovetop smoker. Truckers use high-wattage inverters to power their induction cooktops when they're on the road. Take it to work, find a vacant outlet in the break room, and wow your fellow cubicle-dwellers with one of your culinary specialties prepared on the spot, not reheated in the microwave oven. RV cookery no longer needs to feel like you're fixing dinner in a phone booth over a blast furnace. Remember: Electrical outlet + induction cooker = instant kitchen.

At 1600 watts, the Max Burton offers the most bang for the buck among 120-volt units. The next step up in power, 1800 watts (equivalent to 13000 BTU), is found mainly on commercial units that require beefier electrical circuits than are found in the average home. They also cost about five times the price! Maybe YOU have that kind of money to burn but I'd rather wait a little longer for my pasta water to come to a boil and pocket the difference.

The control panel is simple and uncluttered. If you're comfortable with the touchpad controls on a modern oven, you'll be right at home. The Function touchpad cycles through Power or Temperature cooking modes and a Timer mode. The Power mode provides 10 settings and the Temperature mode steps from 150 to 390 degrees Fahrenheit. Setting the timer is a little tricky because it counts up in 5-minute jumps but counts down 1 minute at a time, so to set 13 minutes, you push the up-arrow three times to get to 15 minutes, then the down-arrow twice to subtract two minutes.

Now, I can already hear your know-it-all friends warning "If you buy one of those, you'll have to replace EVERY POT AND PAN IN THE KITCHEN!" Not very likely. Line up all your pots and pans and pick out those with perfectly flat bottoms. Grab a magnet off the fridge and see if it clings to any of those bottoms. Chances are, it clings to quite a few, like Grandma's cast iron skillet and Aunt Sophie's enamelware Dutch oven. Hey, look, it clings to the bottom of that pressure cooker you picked up on your last trip to the Galleria! Well, whaddaya know! You DO have some induction-ready cookware!

If your kitchen has stainless steel counters or other metal work surfaces, they're off-limits because they can weaken the electromagnetic field. A small amount of energy radiates from the bottom of the cooktop and can make the surface below too hot to touch. Reserve a spot on a Formica, marble, granite or wooden countertop near an electrical outlet.

And, yes, it's true that every induction cooktop has a fan to keep the magnetic coils cool. The sound is more noticeable on a countertop unit than on a built-in but much quieter than a range hood exhaust fan or a microwave oven. If that's the sound of a cooler kitchen, it's music to my ear.

Anyone wondering about the performance of these units should not be worried. Used in a 24 x 32 garage in Virginia, the garage is well insulated but has two 10 x 16 overhead drive through doors, two large windows and a pedestrian door...so..there is more than enough air-infiltration. Does not matter, set at 50 degrees all winter and burned a nominal 88 gallons of propane. If you need to warm the space up quick, just turn it up and it makes it toasty in 20 minutes. Good luck....

Just bought this unit. The design is quite nice as far as being able to rotate the vents and the flexibility to have one down, one up, both down or both up. You can set the desired temperature, but you should know that you can only set it to 60, 65, 70, 75, or 80. That's it. Nothing in between those. The main problem I have with this unit, and it is going back tonight for a replacement, is that my room is 64 degrees, and the unit won't go on until I set it to 75. And even at that, it shuts off after the room gets to about 65 or 66. To me, it seems like the thermostat is off by about 10 degrees.

The thermostat never works. It won't turn on no matter what temperature is set. Asked Amazon for a replacement. The replacement was even worse. Thermostat was off more than 10 degrees, plus one of the towers was broken. Had to send it back for refund. The only good thing is Amazon's service.

I purchased this product a year ago and it has worked wonderfully in my finished basement. It keeps the whole room heated very well if I leave the door to the upstairs closed. Guests really appreciate the warmth since the basement traditionally is very cold.

We're now using it at our office because of the very cold weather and it's doing a great job keeping the heat even throughout the back of the office (and I sit next to a large drafty window).

I don't have any problems with the temperature. Our office stays steady at 74, except in my area, but I can set it to 75 and the temp feels like the rest of the office.

I also have very dry hands in the office and I feel no difference when this heater has been used the past two days here. Everyone in the office has been raving about the awesome design and the output it generates.

I think it is well worth the price!

I upgraded from an older Bissell Little Green Machine to this unit based primarily on my experience with Bissell products. The PROheat has a number of nice features that ultimately sold me on it and after using it for a few months now I'm fairly pleased with it. I particularly like that you can choose to either have the heat on or off. I've heard some people say that using the heat can break down your carpets more quickly and cause the stain to get worse as it picks up new dirt that is tracked in. I don't know if that's not the case, but since my old Bissell unit lacked heat but did a fine job, I pretty much use this minus the heat. Even with the heat off I'm stunned at how good a job this unit does. It's even cleaned stains that I gave up as a lost cause. Most astonishingly, I usually vacuum first before using the steamer and then vacuum again once it's dry. I've discovered I actually vacuum up MORE dirt after steam cleaning than I did before. Clearly this machine is knocking loose built up dirt which means cleaner and nicer appearing carpets than ever before. I also liked the wand attachment from my old Little Green machine, especially for upholstered pieces and hard to reach spots and this thankfully has that.

But there are some drawbacks and limitations. At least initially you will pick up a LOT of carpet fibers when you use the machine, which means FREQUENT cleaning of the rotating brushes and especially the multiple filters on the unit. In some instances I wound up using tweezers to get out fibers from the particularly small filter on the underside of the water tank. The one on top is easier to clean out, but particles trap almost everywhere on this machine. The water tank holds a pitifully small amount of water and/or cleaning solution which means frequent refills, and it slows down the whole cleaning process. The self contained tank is easy to empty, but if you think that will eliminate odors from dirty water guess again, it doesn't. The tank does seem to leak or the seals don't hold tight and so dirty water does collect in the well that the tank sits in, which ads to the nasty smells as well as adding yet another think you have to clean up. Another particularly annoying habit is the dirty water seeping out the front of the machine by the cleaning rollers when you turn off and store the machine. This is really disgusting and trust me, don't store it on carpet or even leave it sitting there for very long as it WILL leak! When in use loose fibers tend to gather on the underside of the machine around the brush rollers so you manually have to gather it up by hand, which slows down the cleaning process. Once you've cleaned your carpet a few times that problem (hopefully) should minimize, although it has yet to happen for me. As a result there's a considerable amount of maintenance you have to do to ensure your machine is operating under optimum conditions. Even so, it's hard to argue with the results. I would probably buy this same unit again, but would also read up on other models just in case they operate more easily. Perhaps I was used to the utter simplicity of the Little Green Machine and sometimes I wish I was still using it, sad to say.

I just purchased a Bissell ProHeat today and am definitly pleased with my purchase. The carpet which was in rather poor shape has seen a clear improvement and IMHO a professional couldn't have done a better job. The cleaner itself was simple to assemble, straight-forward to load with cleaning solution (I like the combo-tank idea!), and very easy to use.

One drawback was the limited size of the tank for holding cleaning solution, I found myself refilling it 4 times to do 3 rooms and a lazy-boy chair. Of course re-filling was at least easy to do and to be expected when buying the low-end model. Further, as with it seems all of these contraptions, the hand-held attachment would spray at far to wide an angle but thats not a unique problem to this one cleaner.

Overall, for the price, if you have a small house or apartment and are on a limited budget or just like to pinch a penny or two, I would surely recommend this Bissell.

When my old Hoover SteamVac with Power Surge broke down, I really hesitated before buying the Bissell ProHeat. But when my local Target store only had the Bissell in stock, I figured what the heck if I test it out and it doesn't work well (as some of the reviews said) I will just clean it up, repack and return to Target.

Well, the Bissell outperforms the Hoover in every way! Here are the comparisons:

1. tank size yes, Hoover is bigger but the Bissell is a much better design. The Hoover waste water tank is very hard to empty and clean without spilling at least some. The Bissell has a special pour spout.

2. Heat Bissell heats the water and this makes a big difference in terms of loosening and picking up dirt. Huge.

3. Bissell upholstery tool works much better.

4. Bissell is easy to disassemble and clean. The suction end comes off easily for rinsing; the waste tank and lid are super easy to clean as well.

There were some complaints about the machine jamming up or not sucking. Here is what I did:

1. I took my time and rinsed the guck out of the tank each time before refilling.

2. When the suction seemed to lessen, I stopped machine and cleaned out the hair and fuzz under the brush component. Worked fine after doing this.

3. At one point, the water did not seem to be getting suctioned up at all. I called Bissell and they walked me through to the issue: there is a red valve in the tank that will stop the airflow if the tank is too full. How does this occur? By overfilling in the first place. So don't top off the tank or if you see that the red valve has come up (you can hear it stop the suction) then empty some water out of the tank.

Overall, the design is really great I love the one tank for both clean and dirty water, the fact that the water gets nice and hot, the ease in cleaning the machine. In cleaning my living room, bedroom and hallways, I probably refilled tank about 8 times. Not too bad. Took an afternoon to do it and except for pulling the carpet fuzz out of the brush area, it was a clean and easy operation.

I have been looking at carpet cleaners for a few months. Based on reviews, I wasn't too sure I could find a good product at a decent price, since I didn't want to break the bank. I found this item at Target, and based on my experience with Bissell vacuums, decided to give it a chance. It assembled pretty easily, and seems pretty solid. It did a very nice job on lifting dirt from an alabaster carpet and darker entry carpet, neither of which had been cleaned in nearly two years. I found the upholstery tool to work very well on higher traffic areas that didn't respond well to the pushing the machine over it. Overall, I am quite happy with this item.

As with some of the other favorable reviews, I loved my Bissell in the beginning. But, now I agree with the unfavorable reviews of awful and leacky. My opinion soon changed as soon as the warranty was up. The belt continued to slip, and I couldn't even get one room cleaned. I spent hours on the phone with Bissell Customer Service, taking the cleaner apart fixing the belt, checking other parts, etc. And just recently, the motor pulley broke. Bissell referred me to the only Bissell repair shop in my area (20 miles away...pretty bad for the second largest city in Maryland not to have anything closer). When I called them, they said it would cost approximately $80 to repair...not worth it since the cleaner was only around $150. So, for $150, expect to get maybe a year's worth of good service from the cleaner (if you're lucky).

So far I must say I love these register heaters. They seem to be well made, with nice heavy steal boxes that go into the wall space. I put them in to solve a nagging problem with a rental house I own; propane tank heat. The min. purchase from the dealer is currently $300.00 plus, and that lasts about one month during the winter. I can't get natural gas run, so I had to find an alternative, other than replace my whole central system with a heat pump. (EXPENSIVE!) The house is really small so a few well placed heaters can easily heat it. I bought two of these and wired them to a good line-in thremostat on the wall. When I finished all the wiring and installation and turned them on, Super! Nice sound, not too loud, certainly not as loud as my central system fan. I still have the propane heat monster for back up when the weather becomes really cold, but these should save the tenants gobs of money compared to the gas. I added baseboard heaters to the bedrooms for their soundless heat and a in-the-wall unit in the bathroom. All Cadet, a US company. Do the calculations on energy usage and cost, I was quite surprised how little extra it adds to the bill, and compared to my propane cost, which ran every tenant off after one year. The whole package of heaters and thermostats cost me about 1.5 times the minimum charge for propane, about the same as a half a tank. I would give it five stars, but I need to see how they are after a year.

I am an electrician by trade, so I have installed a number of electric heaters. This is by far the best most well made electric heater I have ever had my hands on. The case is thick metal. The heater is well made. Its great. Great quality, made in america. I can't say a bad thing about it. I am totally impressed.

I installed 3 of these in a basement remodel. I am driving all of them with a single thermostat and have adjusted them to match the heat requirements of each location. The ability to do this is great. Installation was very easy and they look clean. I went with these because I wanted to save the floorspace electric baseboard requires. Although the winter is over, they seem to put out a decent amount of heat but will have to wait untill fall to really know. The only thing is that they are bit louder than what I had expected. It is a hum it does not affect talking or watching TV but it is there. Probably I would not put one of these in a bedroom though.

Ordered this for my wife for Christmas. She always wanted a fireplace in our bedroom and this was the way to go. I was excited...the package arrived before Christmas as promised and voila! No fireplace. The item came with just the mantle. The mantle is well made and fairly easy to assemble. As I unpacked the box I assumed the heater would be in the box. Nope. Nada. Zilch. I called Amazon and they were great in helping me resolve the problem. According to them, the item was under review, so hopefully it is fixed and the heater is included.

What threw me off was the BTU's given in the description...not too many mantles I know of have BTU's unless the heater is included! The item shipped was the mantle only and no electric fireplace. Hopefully Amazon found the heaters!

I too only received the mantle the first time I ordered. I called Amazon and told them that the firebox was missing and that there had to be 2 boxes because all of the order would not fit in one. They sent me another one and it did come with the firebox. I have it in my bedroom and it looks very nice. It has 3 levels of flame and 5 levels of heat on thermostat. They also work independently of each other and that was very important to me. I found this at other stores for much more money plus tax and shipping so it's a really good deal if they can get the order right.

However, I believe the item description is wrong. Firebox is not included with this item. I ordered 3 different times after not receiving the firebox and each time a new one was sent all you get is the mantle and not the firebox/heater. I even had one shipped from manufacture and no firebox. I believe there should be two boxes as part of this delivery or the item description is wrong and you are only getting a mantle.
