Reviews of AirWolf 5-in-1 Air System

AirWolf 5-in-1 Air System

I purchased one of these Airwolf 5-in-1 Air Systems last year and have yet to find a supplier for the filters needed for this machine, thinking that surely the manufacturer would sell the filters. I have been unable to contact the manufacturer because there is no phone number or website with info on where to buy the filters. I have been buying larger filters from a local hardware store and modifying/cutting them to fit this unit. Be sure you can find and buy the correct filters for this machine before you buy it, or you'll have to make your own filters.

I have had my AirWolf 5 in one unit for a few days now. And all in all it's a decent unit.

Heater

I will say that the heater is not as good as I would have liked it to be, but it does get the job done. One thing that would have made it better is a thermostat. And I have noticed a difference in the comfort level of my room when running the heater and humidifier together.

Air Purifier

The air purifier is actually one of the best features of this unit. The fact that you can run the purifier with all modes is a plus. However, you cannot use the Ionizer and the heater at the same time. And for anyone that has had/used an ionizer that is what makes the room smell so good. Kinda like just after a rain storm. And add to that a UV sanitizer, which kills viruses, bacteria and tiny little critters that the HEPA filter may have missed.

Fan

What can I say, it blows air. Nothing special here.

Humidifier

I like this feature , it uses evaporation technology. Which does seem to add humidity to the air but will not actually produce a stream of water. Which is a big plus. When water vapor goes into the air it tends to collect on surfaces and just makes things wet.

Cooler

It's not gotten hot yet, but in my experience this will probably work just fine. Put cold water in the tray and it should help cool the room. It's no A/C so don't expect to get freezing cold, but it should help take 10-20 degrees off the temp.

All in all its a decent unit. You could easily spend several hundred more dollars and get a separate unit for each function and they will do their job great. But for an all in one the price isn't bad and it does get the job done.

My only complaints are that is is a little loud and the the front of it looks like a Christmas tree and is fairly bright. Not the best when you have it in your bedroom. But putting a towel over the front takes care of that. And the remote still works. Which brings me to my last complaint. And it's not really a complaint, just an idea to improve on the design. The remote should at least be Illuminated, or not round. In the dark you can't tell which buttons you are pushing. If it wasn't round you could at least figure out where the buttons are by memory. And you cannot turn on/off the UV from the remote, Another bad design flaw. But not a deal breaker.

Like I said earlier, this machine is a Jack of all Trades , and Master of none.

I kept my AirWolf in my upstairs bedroom to provide heat in the winter. A few months ago the temps dropped, so I turned on this system and nothing happened but a humming noise. No one repairs them, and I can't contact anyone from the company to answer questions. I guess the one year warranty and operational time is all you get.

Honest reviews on AirWolf 5-in-1 Air System

THE DAY THAT I RECEIVED THIS 5IN 1 AIR SYSTEM, MY BEEDROOM TEMP WAS 91 degrees, so programed this junk on cold air for the max time[7hrs]. so I went to bed. four hrs. later I woke up in a pool of sweat and it was still 91 degrees in my bedroom. ok the next night the temp dropped 40 degrees [in Vermont] so I programed this piece of junk to heat,to the max of time again. now are you all ready for this???. after the unit kicked in ,it kicked off. I tried to get this unit to work 5 more times and it kicked of all 5 times. so than I said the hell with unit. the next day I called their 800 # and all I got was a busy signal and I called from 8am to 8pm for 3 days, same thing. also the web address they supplied does not exist. thank god for amazon,i called them and they took care of this matter with no problem. I must add bought this unit from amazon but was sold through northern tools and northern tool had no problem in me to return this junk' so I say save your money and do not buy.

Heating is not that strong. I have not tried cooling part of the unit. I thought it would heat the room better.

I received this photocell timely, and works fine in my Dayton 150,000 BTU torpedo heater. It's wise to keep a spare as the photocells do go bad.

I ordered a new photo cell from Amazon and it shipped from Desa ( somepalce around Dallas). Arrived in 3 days, was as advertised and upon arrival installed in less than 5 minutes. Resolved the shutdown problem and now heater is like new. The test procedure is good reference. The photo cell has very high resistance ( someplace in meg ohm range) when no light available. With a 60 watt bulb the resistance should be below 500 ohms ( not a fully closed contact). The new one has about 45 ohms resistance with a 60 watt light source and apparently the flame has a light source about the same intensity as a 60 watt bulb. Safety swithc now works as it should.

Although it does not make it clear, thisis a kit for manifolding two propane tanks together. If you use a high flow of propane for cooking or other, more industrial uses, the tank can "freeze up". When that happens, the tank gets so cold it cannot boil the propane anymore and thus the pressure drops to zero. Tying two tanks(or more) together helps give a larger volume of propane to keep pressure more constant at higher flows. For instance, I use mine with two 40 pound tanks to run a propane forge for blacksmithing. This product is well made, with o rings on all connectors. A word of caution, however, this defeats the automatic valve in a modern OPD cylinder, so be VERY careful to turn off BOTH cylinders before changing the accessory or disconnecting hoses.

We use in our central Florida enclosed lanai area to take chill off a winter morning. Looks like a more expensive unit except for one small log. A challenge to assemble. A couple pieces required drilling and instructions on which screws to use were not real clear. Tough to line up last few screws. Best buy amongst all reviewed though.

This heater is an excellent buy. There is really only two heat output settings. The "third" setting is the "econo" setting and really uses the two different heat settings based on temperature difference between the setting and the room. The fan is not to loud and not too quiet. It is perfect for background noise for sleeping. The safety cutoff switch when the unit tips over works just as described when I tested it. The displayed temperatue setting and other lights are fairly bright and bothered my wife when while we slept. I put a couple of layers of translucent tape over it and it took care of that problem. The stand does not have adjustable height. Ceramic heaters are also safer because their elements do not get glowing hot like most heating elements. When this is combined with the safety cutout, it is much safer than the older style units.

I purchased two of these units. One for a home office that is approximately 10 x 12 with 9 foot ceiling and the other one to be used in various other rooms of the house as needed. For the unit in the office, it is the perfect size and does a great job of keeping the room warm. I like the fact that the unit does not get hot to the touch if accidentally touched and that is is fairly quiet. It does have an "Econ" button on it which changes the fan speed from low to high as needed, a nice touch. It has a big bright display that is easy to read from anywhere in the room. Also comes with a handy remote control, not necessary, but a nice to have.

I did try the other unit in our family room which is a large 15 x 17 with 15 foot ceiling and the unit really did not warm the room at all, which I didn't expect it would. So know the limitations of the unit. Even still, in the big room the heater did take a slight chill out of the room, but not enough to justify it running non-stop for several hours.

The unit has a sleek modern design and does not take up much space. I'm really happy with the units.

NEW FOUR STAR REVIEW (OLD 2 STAR REVIEW IS SHOWN BELOW):

I upgraded this product from 2 stars to 4 stars. I now like this product. I moved the location of this product away from the house heating vent (my husband had placed it in the corner near the house heater vent). Customer service also recommended that I unplug the unit to 'reset' it so now I turn it off and unplug it after each use. I have also had great temperature success using the ECO mode instead of the Level 1 mode. I set the device to 67 degrees, ECO mode, and oscillate and it keeps the room in a range between 65F-70F (when set at 67F). This range is acceptable to me. The oscillate mode still makes a slight clicking, but seems to smooth out after it has been in use for awhile. In any case, it does not seem to bother my daughter. Now I'm sleeping much better.

OLD TWO STAR REVIEW:

The first week, this product seemed to work nicely. I had it set to 68F and it seemed to come on and shut off with a +/3 degrees max difference from the setting (I have my own thermostat in the room). This week (week #2), I woke up at 4am and noticed that the temperature in my daughters room was 72 and the heater was still going (I had it set at 67F that night). Last night I was awake almost all night monitoring the temperature. I do not have confidence in the thermostat setting on the heater because it seems to not shut off even after the room is over 3 degrees from the setting (or even +5 degrees as I found out when it was set at 67F and the room was already at a hot 72F and the heater was still going). My daughters room isn't that big and I have a thermometer set on the opposite end of her room. Also, when the heater is on oscillate, it makes a slight clicking sound. The heater fan by itself is quiet. Another minus is that there is no confirmation light to show you if you've got the heater in oscillate mode. Sometimes I think I've got it on oscillate (by pressing the button), but when I check later, the heater is on without oscillating. There is no way to know if you've pressed the oscillate mode On or Off (no light for that). I would like to return this unit.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi TCH7090ER Safeheat 24 In. Ceramic Tower Heater with Remote

We are using this heater (and others) to replace our uber-expensive baseboard units. It works amazingly well, pushes the warm air into other rooms, and has safety features that REALLY WORK! Turns itself off when anyone gets too close, or if the unit is bumped or tipped over. I love the timer. I can set it to start heating 30 minutes before we wake in the morning. I am very impressed with this heater, especially when compared to the others we've tried. It's quiet too!

Michigan: We have an 1800sq ft house with a very open floor plan with central heat that works great except for our closed-off master bed/bath/closet that occupies about 400sq ft and there is a 10 degree difference in there on cold days. We insulated the attic to R60 and had foam injected into the walls, but it actually made my bedroom colder since the heat isn't running constantly now that we have proper insulation. The HVAC guy wanted to sell me on zoning, which is very expensive. So I bought this little heater to see if maybe that would work. It does, and it works great! I have it set up on our dresser, and I just set it to "ECO" mode at 70 degrees. It kicks on only when it needs to, and oscillates warm air around the room. It is very quiet and makes less noise than my tower fan does on low. I'm not sure how it would do if you were heating a room with no supplemental heat, but it works great for making up the difference to get my bedroom on par with the rest of the house. No more cold noses and cold feet at night! It doesn't take up a lot of room and it looks quite attractive. I am quite happy with this solution.

Compact, quiet, clean heat. The oscillating feature is very nice. I would have rated it 5 stars but for one thing: it has a temp setting and supposedly a thermostat so the unit can be set from 65 to 85 degrees in 5 degree increments. It flat doesn't work. I can set it for 65 degrees and it will just keep putting out heat until the room is 80 degrees. Called Bionaire and they told me it's defective. They offered to replace it for free which is nice, but "not until September. Heater season is over. Call us back in September."

It does heat the room, but the thermostat isn't reliable. Not only inaccurate, it also stops functioning entirely if left on one settings for too long. We bought a different heater and this is now our backup.

We did finally purchase these because our Fiestaware plates are so thick, they pull the heat from your food. These heat mats definitely do what they claim, but there are a couple of things that concerned us. First, they DO smell like a car tire when heated. You don't have to have a sensitive nose to get this. The smell of car tires isn't the worst thing, but I don't think it's very appetizing, either. The smell does transfer to the plate until the condensation evaporates, but we did notice that they sometimes leave a film on the plate that doesn't go away with the condensation. Not sure if this is something the silicone secretes, or some kind of other reaction to heat, but I don't want it on my food. We have been able to wipe it off with a dry paper towel and have continued to use the heat mats, despite this nuisance. That said, we certainly do like having warmer food on our plates. I just hope I don't start turning into Lou Ferrigno!

My wife & I love these. It is so simple. Just put on flat plate, stack multiple plates, and put in microwave on high for 30 seconds. The plates get really hot and the edges are plenty cool to touch. It has really saved our food from getting the heat zapped so quickly in the winter, especially for food that doesn't hold its heat very long like eggs and pancakes. But we use it for every hot dinner, even before placing pizza slices on a plate. It really couldn't work any better. They are simply constructed, so I would expect them to last a very long time. Just have a hot pad handy to set the warmer on after you take it off the plate. It doesn't hold its heat very long on its own, but for a few seconds it is pretty hot, mostly from heat from your plate which retains its heat.

I'm sure warming times vary by your microwave. On my 1100 watt microwave (1650 input, 1100 cooking output), it takes only 30 seconds on my thickest plates stacked by 2, and less on smaller thinner plates. I would be careful about over heating your plates if too rapid of expansion could possibly crack your plate. I have plates I really like and haven't been worried at all by these. I just don't push it. 30 seconds is really hot for my thick plates.

I used to run hot water and dry them, which took a while so I rarely did it. This is so much more effective and easy.

These plate warmers are just what we were looking for. 30 seconds in the microwave and the plates are preheated. Excellent

Honest reviews on Progressus ServIt Hot Plate Heaters, Pack of 4

Following directions, we used these several times. The third time, it cracked a plate that we'd long had and often heated in the oven. As one thinks about it, this isn't too surprising: The ServIt heats the center of the plate strongly while not heating the circumference at all; thermal stress is a certain result and a cracked plate is a likely outcome--as we found in practice. These warm the plates, but they leave behind a nasty plastic smell. I like a warm plate, but not enough to make my plate smell like burnt plastic. Also, who knows what chemicals are involved in that smell? Made in China (a country that doesn't have the best rep for product safety). And yes, I DID wash these off in warm soapy water before using (as the directions indicated).

Cannot say enough good things about this "stove", and I was a skeptic!

Must note: This does not come with a remote, and it uses 40-watt chandelier bulbs (no LED that we can detect).

In case others are going through the same thought processes, a little background... I've had my eye on gel-can "fireplaces" for some years now while watching the prices drop. They've not dropped enough, though--at least not on the more realistic-looking models. Since we had an oil-filled, rolling radiator in our budget for October (already have one and love it), before we pulled the trigger on that I thought perhaps we should combine the supplemental heat with a bit of ambience. So I amped up the research on faux fireplaces. Concerned about the recurring cost for canned fuel in gel versions, not to mention the smell it can give off (I've witnessed it, and yuck), I put some time into researching electric versions. It's been many years since I saw any in person, and they've come a LONG way! We decided gel was out, electric was in. Also, "fireplace" was out, "stove" was in; we wanted something mobile, and fireplaces obviously need to be up against a wall to look remotely authentic, plus vents and power buttons are hidden in some stoves. But since they're little more than space heaters with fancy tops, the questions were 1) will the stove heat as well as a radiator?, 2) will it look decent as furniture goes?, and 3) how realistic is the "fire"?

I spent hours looking at the leading manufacturers' offerings before I ever saw this product on Amazon. The heating claims are basically the same for this size stove, no matter the manufacturer, so it came down to aesthetics. There are videos aplenty online, and it's worth seeking them out. I was unimpressed with the look and behavior of the "embers/flames" I was seeing until I happened upon Muskoka's company promo video. The designer said he felt they had the most realistic-looking ember/flame design of any out there and, though I was still skeptical when I ordered it, now that I have it in front of me I can whole-heartedly agree. That aspect, along with the size and design of this stove in particular, makes it stand out among similar electric stoves.

Form: The box is metal (top, sides and back), as is the screen on the doors. Everything else is molded plastic. We're fine with that because it's done well, and it keeps the unit from being too heavy. The design touches on this unit really set it apart, and the doors and screen make the most difference. Not only are the power buttons hidden, so is the glass front--the glare from which, on doorless models, screams "faux!" on first sight. You can't see the heater at the bottom unless you're 12+ feet away or sitting on the floor; it's tucked under and centered. The power cord is 6 feet long, and though the manufacturer does advise against it, they nonetheless approve the use of a short, three-prong, heavy-duty extension cord. And the flame effect? Pretty astonishing. We had a friend walk in last night who thought it was the real deal. (I'm putting up an image but maybe we'll shoot a video as well.)

Function: The low (half) and high (full) settings on the heater work appropriately, there's not a lot to say there. It's forced/fan heat, so the effect is instantaneous as a floor and foot warmer, as compared to radiator-type heaters. Whether or not it will make a big difference in our living room space overall remains to be seen. (If it fails I'll add an update in deep winter.) But we have wood floors that get ice cold in the winter, so I imagine some hot air moving across them will be helpful. You can use the flame effect without heat if you're just looking for ambience.

Price: I'd say this unit is appropriately priced. There are far more expensive models out there which just don't look authentic. And yes, there are cheaper models, but those also look cheaper.

Packaging: It was packaged just fine in a sturdy box, with styrofoam on the top and bottom, and with plenty of air/space inside the box to prevent dings and dents. The unit arrives intact with no assembly needed.

Bottom Line: 100% happy with our purchase. And I swore I'd never go faux! Of course you can't beat the ambience of a real fire, but we all know the smoke's no good for us. This unit is a nice alternative. Unfortunately the first unit we received was defective, but Amazon was quick about picking up the return and sending us a replacement within two days. Had that not have happened I'd give this unit five stars, but we're a little nervous now. Hopefully the duds are few. Happy fall and winter to all!

I installed this ac/heater unit in January 2013. After 2.5 months, it's working fine. I have only used the heat so far. One downside is that the heater always runs when you have it on. It does not automatically shut off when the room reaches a specific temperature. For this reason, it's not like you can set it at 60 degrees and then leave town for a week, assuming it will just kick on occasionally to keep your pipes from freezing. No, it will blow 60 degree air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until you turn it off, which is a big waste of energy. So I only turn it on when I'm home. I believe when it's set to ac, it will sample the temperature in the room and kick on and off accordingly. I am thinking of moving this unit into my bedroom and getting a Frigidaire unit for my main living area due to this problem.

I thought replacing my 1960s unit would slash my energy bills, as most of my energy use is from running two ac/heater units in my apartment. I am only using slightly fewer kWh/month than this time last year, though I am running the heat a little more often. (February 2012: 1,008 kWh/month, February 2013: 909 kWh/month. It is way more attractive than my old yellowish beige unit, and comes with a remote, which is handy.

Installation was not too bad, though I did have some friends come over to help. I had to slide out the old unit, clean the existing sleeve thoroughly, turn each of the metal flanges on the grate at the back to a different angle (per the instructions), and stick in some foam pieces that came with the unit. Then you just slide in the new unit and plug in. The instructions tell you how to install it depending on what type of old you have.

After purchasing this unit, I bought another Friedrich Uni-Fit ac/heater unit on Amazon, though in a different model that had fewer BTUs. It arrived cracked, and I had to return it. Be sure to inspect carefully before going through the hassle of installation. Returning the unit was not a big deal, which is why I make these types of big purchases on Amazon.

So far so good. I'll update this review when I try the ac settings this summer.
