I bought this heater in November 2012. It's run well for the most part. But it has some problems, which I've listed below.
The most recent problem, described below, was severe enough that I decided to return or exchange it. It was supposed to be warrantied for a year, so I dug up the receipt, only to find that although the warrantee was good for a year, the receipt had expired! Which makes the "warranty" worthless. (My mistake, I bought it from Target, a store with a terrible return policy.) (This is Target's fault of course, not the manufacturer's). I could send it back to the manufacturer, but the postage would cost almost as much as the heater.
Summing things up:
1) WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS HEATER:
* It heats effectively. I don't know how it would do in a huge room, but it heats my small living room quickly and effectively, even on low. It's 49 degrees outside tonight, cold and windy, but toasty (over 74 degrees) in my living room. I'm sitting on my couch in the buff typing this. (The heater's been on for three hours, on low.) I'm getting spoiled by the very pleasant warmth the heater produces.
* The fan distributes the heat well.
* It's lightweight and easy to move around.
* It has a safety feature designed to turn it off it it tips over.
* An interesting feature is that you can set this heater to warm up the whole room, including the area behind it or just the 180 degrees in front. (When you set it for 360 degrees, the fan blows out of both the front and back).) Either way it heats the whole room in short order, especially a small room. Electric heaters really have improved over the years. Ceramic electric heaters in particular are nice for heating up a room quickly and evenly.
2) WHAT I DISLIKE ABOUT THIS HEATER:
* It's really not an attractive design, and I don't think most people would want it in their living space. It would look better in a shop or garage than in a nice living room.
* The box says it's a Honeywell heater, which is part of why I bought it, but in reality, it's made by a smaller company. When I called Honeywell trying to register the purchase and warranty, I was told that they had nothing to do with it, they had not manufactured it, they were just leasing their brand name to this company to use. They gave me the other company's number and hung up. They made it clear that Honeywell does NOT stand behind it and won't help if it has problems.
* It has thermostat and timer problems. Some of them are pretty bad, i.e.:
* When I set it on timer, sometimes it acts like it's on thermostat and starts turning on and off randomly (and loudly), every few seconds. (Other times it seems fine, and doesn't do this.)
* When I set it thermostat, it's supposed to stop when the room reaches the desired temperature, but it doesn't always do so; sometimes it keeps right on heating, so the room might get up to 80 degrees when I've set the thermostat for 71 degrees. So I'd be cautious about using it as a heater in a child's bedroom.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The 2011 version of this heater was recalled. If the date stamp on the metal prongs where you plug it in end in 11, do not use it, It's defective.

I've used this pot for some months now on a near daily basis and had absolutely no problems. It is a must for the tea enthusiast. Not only is it more stylish than most dispensing pots, it is in a league of it's own for selecting temperature and sustaining temperature over time. It is quick to boil, and can silently keep your water ready for tea for all-day use.
The cost of this pot is higher than your average boiling pot, but it shows in the extra features and in the build quality. The pump action is a much-loved feature, as is the break-away safety cord (all appliances should have such a cord in my opinion). You can just tell that the people that designed this knew what they were doing and cared.
On the downside, I wish for 3 things: 1) the ability to set the temp to more degrees (such as between 160 and 180 for green tea instead of 140); 2) an on-off switch instead of always just disconnecting the cord; and 3) a slightly deeper indent behind the spout so that more tea pots can easily fit under the spout.
If you are serious about tea, buy this unit.
Boiling a full fresh 2-L pot takes several minutes. I tend to keep mine topped up whenever it gets down to about half, and that takes much less time to bring up to temperature. It does seem to re-boil the water whenever the top is opened, rather than only bringing it up to the set point. That's probably a very good thing, as far as keeping it from becoming a microbial breeding ground.
I used to unplug it when I left the house because I was worried about fire hazards; I stopped after the first few weeks because the outside barely gets warm to the touch, except at the top near the vent, where it's quite warm. When it's boiling water, it does let off a bit of steam through the top vent. When not running the boil cycle it lets out very little steam I can comfortably cup my hand over the vent for several minutes; the plastic is warmer than the air above the vent so I usually leave it shoved under a cabinet except when I've just added water. The underside of the cabinet is about 4 inches away and I cannot feel any temperature difference between that surface and the other cabinets nearby.
I do wish I'd bought a larger one. When I purchased this, I thought I'd use it for a cup of tea or two a day and 2 liters would be plenty. Now that I have plenty of hot water on demand, and at just the right temperature, I drink a lot more tea and my roommate has joined me. I also use it for all sorts of other hot-water needs (instant soups and cereals, for example) so that it needs refilling daily.
With that note about the heavy use it gets, it functions beautifully with minimal cleaning. Every now and then when it runs empty I wipe out the interior. Beyond that, I've only descaled it once in over 2 years, and that was because the calcium build-up on the heating element was making it take too long to boil my water -there was no clogging or pressure/volume reduction.
I didn't review this when I bought it because as much as I loved it, I expected the calcium in the local water to clog it in a matter of weeks to months. Now I have something more valuable to say: it keeps working, month after month, with minimal attention, for years.

Edited to add: I've now owned this dispenser for just over 4 years, and I still use it daily and love it every bit as much. It might be time to descale it again (the second time since I bought it), and again that's due more to scale insulating the heating element than to any clogging or loss of dispensed volume. I'm considering buying a second one, not because anything is wrong with my first one, but because it still works _so_ well that I've become thoroughly spoiled to piping hot water on demand and now feel put-upon needing to go all the way downstairs for a cup of bedtime tea or a bowl of instant miso soup in the morning. This dispenser kept on my nightstand, filled with filtered water, plus my Aero Press coffee maker, would be the best coffee-in-bed-first-thing solution ever.
Edited again to add: At almost 5 years, I need another. Not that this one has stopped working admirably -it's never malfunctioned in any way -but I need a larger one. I've been cooking more of late, and the just-below-boiling water is the perfect thing to clean cast iron cookware -splash some hot water into the hot pan, swirl a brush around it, empty it, and put it back on the hot burner/oven rack to dry. No sink, no soap, no drainer, no dishwasher, and the cookware is clean before the food is cool enough to eat. It would be perfect if it didn't mean filling the dispenser twice a day when I cook. This is the last-straw added demand for hot water that renders my poor 2-liter dispenser an annoyance. I'm tired of filling it so often. I'm moving it into the bedroom for morning/bedtime coffee/tea, where I can love it again, and buying a 4-liter one for the kitchen. If I could give this little trooper six stars, or ten, I'd do so gladly; the worst thing I can say about it is that it performed so well it created more demand than it's sized to handle. Wow.
My review from 2006: I've been pretty pleased with this little water heater. It lets you select three different temperatures (though I wish that it provided more options than that), has a handy water gauge on the front, a magnetically attached power cable, and a set of two buttons to hit so that you don't accidentally engage the water dispensor. I'm pretty pleased with it.

I like the looks and the feature set -3 temperatures, autolock with "unlock" button -is just right.Boiling a full fresh 2-L pot takes several minutes. I originally purchased this item in July of 2006 and in November of 2011, it's still working well. I've only had to descale it twice, and I leave it plugged in all the time. It's definitely a well engineered product. My review from 2006: I've been pretty pleased with this little water heater. Unfortunately the Zutton line of products bombed out in Japan so they sent them over here to try. Zojirushi is normally known for its quality products (and you can't beat the longevity on their "Made in Japan" potto dispensing pots) however, the entire Zutto line was tested by me and found to be less than promising (if you go to Japan and visit a department store, you will see the Zutto line in a quiet corner drawing no attention). The problem is that it tries to present itself as trendy and perhaps even metallic in nature. When you get the actual product you discover that it is in fact plastic and flimsy (just lift the lid on the Zutton Dispensing Water Pot and you can feel the quality or lack thereof). None of the Zutto products have any substance. To make matters worse, they must sell in this country for more than they sold in Japan. This reason is unknown other than the fact that they are trying to promote it as a high-end item when in fact it is plastic. Stick with the high-end rice cookers other than Zutton line (Made in Japan only)... I use this exclusively for baby formula at 140 degree. The water at 140 degree is still kind of hot, so I still add cold water to mix the formula. Very solid and easy to use. The lid come off for easy pour of water and cleaning. The electrical cord is magnetic so fells off with slight pull, which is good to prevent tripping of the cord and pulling of the pot with hot water in it. This is a good safety feature, if you have toddler or baby, they might tug on the cord and if the cord is fixed on the pot it will spill hot water all over, which is dangerous. But not this one. FYI, this is made in China.Tuesday, July 15, 2014
Review of Narita International Electric Hot Pot Water Kettle 1000W Dual
My main reason for ordering the Hot Pot is that it is made from stainless steel and I am reluctant to boil water in one of the competing plastic pots since I fear the chemical leaching potential of electric plastic kettles. I wanted to add this review to the ones already listed to add some further information. On reading the earlier reviews, I could not get the answer to how fast the tea kettle will bring water to a boil. One review said that it is slower when set on the 120 volt mode for the US and that is where I will be using it primarily. I use it to boil water for my French Press coffee pot mostly which requires 16 ounces of water to make a full pot (19 ounce french press). 16 ounces of water boils in 3 minutes here at 3000 feet altitude while the full pot (to the "MAX" mark inside the pot) boils in just about 4 minutes. Then the pot clicks off, the light on the handle goes out and water has come to a full rolling boil. By contrast, my 1200 Watt microwave takes about 5 minutes to bring 16 ounces to a boil in a Pyrex measuring pitcher. My Kill-a-Watt meter says the unit is 930 watts and draws 7.74 Amps at my line voltage of 119 volts so it is cheaper and faster to use.
Other Pros: the fit and finish is really nice, brushed stainless on the inside and a mirror finish outside. The lid is plastic but snaps securely into place registering with the handle to prevent rotation and has a comfortable molded slot for your fingers to fit securely when removing the lid. There is a reset button on the handle so you can immediately use it again after boiling a pot by refilling with cold water and pressing the reset. The base is also plastic and remains cool when in use.
I like this unit and will probably be using it nearly daily so will report on durability later.
The only drawback I can foresee is that the cord is permanently wired into the base of the pot...no way to replace the cord, as you can do with an electric percolator by just going to the hardware store and getting a replacement. This is probably due to the dual voltage option for overseas travel; an option my daughter doesn't currently use but may come in handy in the future.
You have to follow directions and make sure the little voltage option screw on the bottom is turned the right way (perhaps that caused the fire problem on the negative review??). This came pre-set for us in America.
Very pleased with the product and its performance and the price is worth it when you consider it cannot be found anywhere else. I am thinking of getting one for the home, too.
As I had recently a bad experience with a travel kettle where the silicone ring holding the plastic body to the heating element melted and almost resulted in both electrocuting me and almost causing a minor fire in the bathroom of a Hyatt, I decided to go with one of the stainless models above.
Pros:
+ The body of the kettle that contains the water is one piece stainless steel.
+ The kettle is as close to a pan on a hot plate as you get. = No way to spill a significant amount of water on the electronics.
+ Easy to clean and wipe out.
+ Boils water in 3-mins 45 seconds to 4-mins. 110V
+ Auto-off function works.
+ The dual voltage indicator is easy to see, understand and use.
+ A small coin can be used to change voltage
+ This kettle does let you "long boil" water to sterilize it for consumption in areas that do not have safe water. The water needs to be boiled without the lid on and not more than half the maximum volume or the water will splash out during an extended rolling boil. Note: the lids has to be completely off the pot for this.
Cons:
No hardwater screen filter near the pour spout that plastic kettles have
No screen = a dew drops of water does spit out during the last few seconds of boiling.
Lid handle is very shallow and hard to pull off without burning the back of your fingers. Would have liked a better lid handle.
Indicator light is hard to see.
The kettle does seem a tiny bit larger than your average travel kettle.
Stainless body makes this kettle heavier than your regular travel kettle
Kettle cannot be used to sterilize more than 350ml of water because water splashes out during an extended rolling boil.
Note:
* This kettle weighs 1-lb 5-oz on my analog baking scale.
* This kettle seems to have a sensitive thermostat. I was unable to boil a second kettle of water immediately after the first kettle of water. However, I had to wait even longer after the second kettle to boil a third kettle of water. The button wouldn't even respond when the kettle was too warm. Although this is a good safety feature, and is not too inconvenient if you're just making tea or coffee for one. For a family or someone who plans on boiling a larger volume of water to prepare meals, I would just recommend using a regular kettle and buying a voltage converter plus plug adapter.
* At first I thought that the kettle I received was defective when it wouldn't turn back on, but then realized that it might have an overly sensitive thermostat as is common with travel appliances.
* This kettle has a grounded plug and any plug adapter that is bought needs to be able to take a grounded N. American three-prong plug.
Other Pros: the fit and finish is really nice, brushed stainless on the inside and a mirror finish outside. The lid is plastic but snaps securely into place registering with the handle to prevent rotation and has a comfortable molded slot for your fingers to fit securely when removing the lid. I've been using this kettle in Afghanistan for over three months now sharing it in a tent with seven other guys and also one of our female Soldiers who knocks on the door asking for hot water. It's used A LOT and keeps boiling HOT water. The size is handy, not too big. It's done everything I've wanted and looks like it's going to last the entire deployment.Best Deals for Narita International Electric Hot Pot Water Kettle 1000W Dual
I scoured the internet for days looking for a small, streamlined, non-clunky, non-plastic hot pot that held a quart or less of water for my daughter's desk at work. The hardest part was the non-clunky, non-plastic part! This little number is great! It heats water to a rolling boil in less than 3 minutes and then shuts off automatically and can only be restarted by pushing the reset button...so no accidental boiling dry or overheating. The outside of the pot does get hot!...but that's what being metal is all about. It's no worse than a percolator type coffee pot and is much like a small, streamlined percolator but with no basket or clunky dangling things to get in the way or snag on things or get lost. It's simply a nice little pot with a lid.The only drawback I can foresee is that the cord is permanently wired into the base of the pot...no way to replace the cord, as you can do with an electric percolator by just going to the hardware store and getting a replacement. Honest reviews on Narita International Electric Hot Pot Water Kettle 1000W Dual
I purchased this water kettle last January shortly after arriving in Afghanistan. It was originally intended for personal use to boil water for coffee and Raman Noodles during my one-year deployment. However, it quickly became a community item serving our entire team of 30+ people. It is constantly in use, and has probably boiled 2-3 gallons of water per day for 11 months. Remarkably, it is still going strong, shows very little wear, and has no signs of corrosion or discoloration despite the very high usage and less-than-ideal war-zone environment. We use it on 220V, and it takes about 3 minutes to boil water from the full-mark ... over and over again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Narita International Electric Hot Pot Water Kettle 1000W Dual
After years of lugging around my trusty and much loved Sanyo dual voltage travel cooker and/or my Zelco travel coffee maker for hot water, I decided to go back to basics and just get a travel kettle. After doing some research, I decided that I really didn't want to deal with a clunky British plug (although that's where most of the good travel kettles are from) and was left with this Narita, the Bonavita, Austin House and Severin that had N. American plugs. The first two are stainless and the last 2 are plastic and possibly a few ounces lighter. [The Bonavita is the only one out of the four listed above that is not dual voltage and so not only needs a plug adapter, but also needs a voltage converter for international use].As I had recently a bad experience with a travel kettle where the silicone ring holding the plastic body to the heating element melted and almost resulted in both electrocuting me and almost causing a minor fire in the bathroom of a Hyatt, I decided to go with one of the stainless models above.

Review of Free Standing Four Pair Boot & Glove Dryer
I bought this two winters ago. It's kind of expensive for what you get, but it works. You can dry 4 pairs of boots and 4 pairs of gloves/mittens at the same time. It takes a good 12 hours to dry something that's really wet. But, usually the kids are coming in around 5:00PM and don't need their stuff again till 8:00AM the next morning, so it's not really an issue. I believe if the fan was more powerful that it could dry stuff in half the time. I may still try to mount a bigger fan on it. As far as construction, it is built pretty sturdily. We actually cut some of the hoses shorter for the kids gloves as they wouldn't reach the holding clips. Now it's fine. Overall I rate it 4 stars because the only thing it lacks is a more powerfull fan.

Reviews of Travel Water Heater Kettle for Car
This is a handy item for making tea on the road. It fits neatly into the car between the front seats and plugs into the cigarette lighter. It has two cups that are stored in the jug. The only problem is that it takes half an hour to boil 2 cups of water. That is much too long and meant that we never actually used it on our trip.
I would recommend this product to everyone for multiple uses.

This is my second Travel Water Heater for car. Both units only lasted for about ten uses then died. On taking a closer look at my second unit after it died, it look as if it was wired for a 240/120 volt circuit and not a 12/24 volt circuit (internal wiring too thin). For the price and the fact it is CE certified I'm not impressed. I expected a better product with CE certification.Best Deals for Travel Water Heater Kettle for Car

Buy Pelonis Heater/Fan
I have central heat, but for whatever reason by the time the air gets to the vents in my room, it's cold and my infant son sleeps in the room with me so I need it warm. The heater I was using (Lasko 6410 Designer Series Oscillating Ceramic Heater) only adjusts the thermostat in 5 degree increments but 70 let the room get to about 65 before it kicked on and heated the room to around 80 if I picked 75, so there was no happy medium.
From all the heaters I've looked at and the ones we have in the house (2 different models of Lasko oscillating ceramic heaters, which are digitally programmable but have annoying beeps, only have 1500w and 900w settings, no fan only setting, and cost almost twice as much), this is the best value. I personally do prefer a ceramic heater (I think they're safer and faster at heating a room), but I gave this one a try even though it's a fan-forced model because Pelonis is supposed to be a good brand and their ceramic heaters are expensive. I figured even if it only lasts a year or two that I will have gotten my money's worth out of it since it was so inexpensive.
This is the only space heater I've found that has a 600 watt energy setting and one of the few that has 3 (600w, 900w, and 1500w). Most only have 2. 1500 or 1200 seems to be the default and the ones that have an "energy saver" setting generally go to 900. The ones I've seen that go lower are over $50. Even though this heater is very compact, it warms up my 300ish square foot room set to a moderate temperature (can't set the thermostat for a specific temp) using the low energy setting.
For under $30 this is what you get with this heater:
-No plasticky new heater smell that needs to air out for 3 hours running on high in the garage or some other out of the way location (One of the Laskos had the smell but the other didn't)
-Cool touch housing -manual says it might get hot and that the air coming out might burn, but I've experienced neither even with basically constant use
-Overheat protection
-Auto shut off if tipped over
-600w low energy setting
-Fan only setting
-Adjustable thermostat
-Very quiet (the Laskos have louder fans)
-Very compact (less than 12" tall and approx. 9"x4" footprint)
-Element heats instantly so no waiting around while cold air is blowing on you
-Very effective at producing steady heat
-1 year warranty
-Carry handle in the back so it can easily be repositioned or moved to other rooms
Things it doesn't do:
-oscillate
-give specific thermostat settings (but I just discovered on mine that putting the thermostat in the middle of the 2nd lowest setting makes it turn on around 68)
Overall, this is a great unit. It does everything I need and I got it for about $26 including shipping. I would definitely purchase it again and I have already recommended it to my friends.
This fan replaced my old Pelonis fan that finally died after ten years or so. I like that it has three heat settings and an adjustable fan. The internal thermostat will kick it off when it reaches that stage. If it gets knocked off the surface that it's sitting on, it will cut off. It provides the instant direct heat that I wanted. It keeps my home office nice a toasty without me having to warm up the whole house by turning the main thermostat up. I would buy this fan again and again and again.Best Deals for Pelonis Heater/Fan
This is a great product. I have 2 Pelonis heaters. This one operates very quietly and has the advantage of using lower wattage settings than other similar heaters. Low operates at 600 watts which is the reason I bought this heater. It also has a thermostat which is nice. It doesn't smell like many ceramic heaters when they heat up. It produces uniform heat and doesn't blow really hard (the fan speed isn't really high).Honest reviews on Pelonis Heater/Fan
I purchased this portable heater to use in my 18 foot RV. This little unit works great. I can heat the entire RV in about 20 minutes. There is not a numeric temperature setting, but after a few uses you get an idea of where to set the knob to get to your desired temperature. There is also a fan setting that doesn't produce heat but would work to create some air movement in the summer and to act as "white noise". I'm a fairly light sleeper and the fan on this unit isn't loud enough to wake me at night when it kicks on. This little heater is light weight, portable, inexpensive and works like a charm. My biggest worry with a portable heater was the fire risk. I don't use this heater when I'm not around to monitor it. When I turn it off after it's been on all night, the counter top underneath of it isn't even warm to touch. The unit kicks off a good amount of heat but doesn't get too hot for me to pick it up by the built in handle. It operates quietly so I can use it while I'm watching TV or on the phone without difficulty. The cord is a good length to be able to place it a few feet away from other objects to avoid fire risk. Overall, I recommend this item. I purchased it through Amazon with my Prime membership. I bought it on a Wednesday and received it on Friday.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Pelonis Heater/Fan
I bought this heater for work because I work in a very cold office. The heater works well enough, but it is noisier than the other reviews suggested. I guess it is quiet enough for the home, but not for a quiet office. It's also not very stable and falls over really easily. I will keep this one, but if I have to buy a space heater again, I probably won't buy this one.Thursday, February 20, 2014
Discount Toastmaster TEK17W 1.7 L Kettle
This replaced a previous electric kettle that we owned. The Toastmaster kettle has an attractive form, great safety features (like auto shut-off when the water boils or when it's dry), and boils quickly. We compared the amount of time needed to boil a liter of water between the two kettles, and the Toastmaster was boiling while the other one was still heating up! Other kettles cost twice as much or more, but you won't find a better value.

I bought this kettle because my sister had one and I was impressed how fast it would brew. I have used it for about a year and a half. Recently, I noticed a wet spot around the base and saw that the pot has a slow leak at the seam. My sister has encountered the same problem. They may have a 1 year warranty, but its useless if the leak occurs after that period. Its too bad, because I really liked this pot.Best Deals for Toastmaster TEK17W 1.7 L Kettle
We love this kettle. Easy to use. Pretty quick to reach a full boil. Great for my mom who is almost blind and needs straight-forward usability. We love it; albeit, we use it so much, we need to replace it before the 2-year mark. We are still in love with this kettle.Honest reviews on Toastmaster TEK17W 1.7 L Kettle
If you only use this kettle to decorate your counter and use it infrequently, it might provide years of so-called "service". Otherwise, expect the worst. I thought I loved this kettle. Large capacity, fast, auto shut-off. Used it at least once a day for more than a year. But then yesterday, there was water everywhere. As a mechanical engineer who enjoys repairing a wide variety of devices, I was quick to disassemble this appliance and attempt some magic. What a disappointment to discover that the upper white plastic jug is pressed and crimped onto the metal base. I was shocked at how easily the two halves separated. No way to correct the leak or securely reassemble.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Toastmaster TEK17W 1.7 L Kettle
I've never used an electric kettle before until now, and I chose this one because it held more water for serving more than 2 cups (or mugs) of tea at a time; I particularly liked this because I could keep it filled with guests coming in, and it heats almost instantly. For me this was one of the most rewarding purchases I have ever made. The price is right, the white color is great, and the entire product as a whole is exceptional value. It's lightweight, easy to clean, very attractive and sturdy at the same time, easy to lift and pour, sits perfectly on the base, and fits perfectly on my counter top! But the real joy was having my very first cup of tea from it. It boils in just under 2 minutes or less, depending on how full the kettle is. It has never spilled or dripped either just lift it and pour (not rushing the process) and you will find a very smooth flow with great ease. I would highly recommend this kettle to anyone looking to either have something convenient for guests (refills right away and boils in less time than the stove top), or just to switch off from using the stove every now and then, and relax with a one-push on/off switch that shuts off automatically when it's done. No more running for the whistle! I can't say enough good things about this kettle I would buy this again for myself and give it as a gift! You won't be disappointed! :)Tuesday, January 14, 2014

I installed this ac/heater unit in January 2013. After 2.5 months, it's working fine. I have only used the heat so far. One downside is that the heater always runs when you have it on. It does not automatically shut off when the room reaches a specific temperature. For this reason, it's not like you can set it at 60 degrees and then leave town for a week, assuming it will just kick on occasionally to keep your pipes from freezing. No, it will blow 60 degree air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until you turn it off, which is a big waste of energy. So I only turn it on when I'm home. I believe when it's set to ac, it will sample the temperature in the room and kick on and off accordingly. I am thinking of moving this unit into my bedroom and getting a Frigidaire unit for my main living area due to this problem.
I thought replacing my 1960s unit would slash my energy bills, as most of my energy use is from running two ac/heater units in my apartment. I am only using slightly fewer kWh/month than this time last year, though I am running the heat a little more often. (February 2012: 1,008 kWh/month, February 2013: 909 kWh/month. It is way more attractive than my old yellowish beige unit, and comes with a remote, which is handy.
Installation was not too bad, though I did have some friends come over to help. I had to slide out the old unit, clean the existing sleeve thoroughly, turn each of the metal flanges on the grate at the back to a different angle (per the instructions), and stick in some foam pieces that came with the unit. Then you just slide in the new unit and plug in. The instructions tell you how to install it depending on what type of old you have.
After purchasing this unit, I bought another Friedrich Uni-Fit ac/heater unit on Amazon, though in a different model that had fewer BTUs. It arrived cracked, and I had to return it. Be sure to inspect carefully before going through the hassle of installation. Returning the unit was not a big deal, which is why I make these types of big purchases on Amazon.
So far so good. I'll update this review when I try the ac settings this summer.

Thermal Switch Can be used with Fireplace Blowers for automatic Reviews
This little thing works just as advertised. Hooked it up electrically in-line with the blower in the fireplace, and now the blower only comes on when the fireplace warms up (no more blowing cold air), and then after the fire is turned off, the blower stays on until the fireplace is cooled down.
I found some surplus neo-magnets at an office supply and crazy-glued them to the side tabs. That way, I could mount the switch, without drilling holes, to the bottom of the fireplace (actually, the inside top of the blower cavity).
My local Napoleon dealer wanted $35 for a new thermoswitch. Amazon had a much better price. The only difficulty with the 19-SF2-115 switch is that it "turns on" at a lower temperature (110F) than the one supplied by Napoleon (120F).
I first tried installing this switch it to the side of the fireplace box (same location as my newer gas fireplace). The problem with this location, is that the sheet metal box stays warm at this location for a long time, even after the fireplace flame is turned off. I discovered that the blower would stay on for 3-4 hours after the flame turned off. This is probably why Napoleon uses a 120F switch instead of the 110F switch. By the way, the 120F thermoswitch switch takes a good 15 minutes to turn on.
By experimentation, I discovered that if I mounted the 110F thermoswitch on the sheet metal air deflector directly above the fireplace box (see attached photos), the blower starts approximately 2 minutes after the flame turns on and shuts off approimately 8 minutes after the flame turns off. It is the perfect location for this switch!
The switch is held in place by two magnets that I epoxied on to the sheet metal tabs on the switch (see attached photo). I wired the thermoswitch directly into the 110VAC blower circuit using a total of 8 feet of 250C high temperature wire (available on Amazon and the major auction site).
As a point of interest, I also have the gas valves on both gas fireplaces connected to a "millivolt" thermostat located on the other side of the room. The thermostat turns on and off the gas fireplace to maintain the temperature of the room. I set the thermostat in my basement to about 65F. It works very nicely to take the "chill" out of the basement.
Summary: The switch works well, but some experimentation with the location may be required.
Hope this review helps!
What is special is not so much the item, but the wisdom and advice of the seller.
My gas Fireplace had a number of design faults since new five years ago.
One of the issues was the fan control. The original supplied thermoswitch did not cut the fan in until 207 degrees F. The original switch was not fixed (You can not drill in a fire box). So the original unit flopped about above the box. Eventually the plastic insulators over the connectors crumbled due to heat, the switch moved and shorted against the fire box. In a shower of sparks the switch and solid state fan controller were blown and the breaker tripped at the panel.
I followed this sellers advice and used his switch that cuts in at 115 degrees F. I used the heat shrink over the connectors as extra protection.
The really brilliant piece of his advice was to use powerful small rare Earth magnets to secure the thermoswitch to an ideal location above the fire box in the airstream. Now this gas fireplace works better than ever.
So before you purchase this unit look at his installation advice and his pictures.
Unit is fine but nothing special about it. His advice free but priceless. Thank you!

Discount Dimplex Oxford Cherry Corner Electric Fireplace
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $1,111.00

I did quite a bit of research before buying an electric fireplace. I decided the best look for my home would be a cherry, corner unit, and firmly believed that any fire box smaller than 26" wouldn't cut it. This Dimplex unit fit the bill exactly. It was packed and delivered with care. The cherry finish matches the photo exactly, and the fire box is a perfect size with realistic logs and flames. Another positive is that the heater motor is very quiet, and my 46" flat panel TV sits perfectly on top. Now, there are 2 important negatives. Even though it was easy to set up, the entire unit is wobbly unless you anchor it to the wall, and I also believe that all the top end fireplaces I viewed, including the Dimplex I purchased, were over-priced by as much as $400.00. That said, I'm still happy with my fireplace. It looks great.I bought this for my master bedroom and put a 37" TV on it. Its the perfect height and size. It has precense in the room and is the right size for the TV. In addition its great to use in the winter to heat up the master for those mornings you don't want to get out of bed. I also use it in the summer without the heat just for the ambiance the fire creates. The design is simple and beautiful. Its a very clean look and has held up great over the past year. It is wobbly free-standing, but when pushed into the corner it doesn't really move.
