I got mine from tracter supply during a sales push with a rep. from comfort there.I have been a HVAC repair person for years. Their Rep. answered all my questions and I bought one Thinking I had 30 days and would return it if I did not like it. Before I pluged it in I read my meter. I ran it about 12hrs a day for a month read my meter again and was very happy to see after doing the math it cost me $36.00 more on my electric bill for heat for the month. Happy because if I ran my propane it cost me on a average of $9.00 per day. this little furnace cost $1.20 day. I use 600 gal. of propane a heating season times $2.89 a gal. this year = $1734.00 for the season. And the room is in is 72 not 68. This month is colder and I still have not turned my propane furnaceIt has been heating the whole house.I live in michigan. I will up date after my next meter reading . My house is a 1167 sq.ft. ranch.

Im back to update you after a full winter and into the middle of feb. this winter. I will still say get one . I changed propane supplyers this summer and started with a full tank 500 gal. 90% full. as of 15 feb. I am at 45%. any year befor I would have filled some time in jan. and well into my second tank of propane. At night I turn my gas furnace down to 64 and my litter heater off in the morning I turn them both on set my stat at 68 the gas furnace will run and heat up the whole house and the comfort furnace takes over after a hour or so the main furnace will not run again unless its around 0 deg. My electric bill has gone up about $30 to $35 a month. Thats way cheaper than propane. I have had No issues or problems with this unit .

This heater is quiet and performs as advertised. Remote function is a bit of a challenge for the non-electronically minded, but overall, I would highly recommend it.

We have this heater installed in a 14 x 16 sun/family room with cathedral ceiling that connects openly to the adjacent kitchen. It's a very nice room setup with one caveat, the sun/family room has an atrium door with side lights that opens onto our side deck....and the DOGS, oh my gosh, in and out All Day. The manufacturers instructions specifically state that you should Not place the heater by an exterior door but I find it works Very well behind the couch, between the couch and the exterior door. We don't have a cold chill running across the floor anymore and when the sun starts to go down and the room begins to cool off, the heater cranks up like it was made for the room. Why we waited 14 years to put a heater in this area is beyond me.

The advertised 'timer' and HVAC sync are useless in our application. Actually, the 'timer' function is not a 24 hour timer and Does Not allow you to set the the heater to turn on and off on a scheduled basis. I believe it's only function is to stay on for a single period of time and turn itself off when that period of time has elapsed. Worse, the controls are electronic which defeats the idea of plugging the heater into a wall timer. So, you must turn it on when you need and remember to turn it off when you don't, like when your leaving the room for extended periods.

The HVAC sync might be useful if the heater were placed in the same area as the thermostat but where we have it placed, the air temp flucuates more widely because of all the window area. But that's why we bought it..to control a local area, not heat the house.

I whole heartedly endorse the UV lamp feature. We use them in my hospital because they work. The fan is noticable only if you are attentive to such things. Otherwise it's something you can easily tune out. And the case is really finished very nicely. It's not furniture so don't expect perfect woodworking but the Tuscan Walnut has a real wood look to it and the color is rich, not fake in appearance.

Finally, this unit will pull some current when in operation. If you have it plugged into a circuit with an old 15 amp breaker, it'll trip..especially if you have any other high current draw appliance plugged into the same circuit and in operation. We have it plugged into a circuit with a couple of floor lamps and the TV. The lamps dim when the heater starts up, but the breaker does not trip.

In our specific application, I rate this unit a 5 without reservations for basic functionality and a 4.5 overall for the addition of advertised 'features' that don't really work well imho, but for which I am most assuredly paying extra. Note: We have only had it two weeks so I can not attest to the units longevity. I will post an update after the winter is over.

The Seller: must have shipped it rush, it came in two days! Thanks golfstorehomecom!

**UPDATE**

28 Oct 2013: Back in service and going strong! No complaints.

Honest reviews on Tuscan Walnut Comfort Furnace Infrared Heater UV

We bought this unit from Tractor Supply during a Black Friday sale ($299). Figured I would give it a try. The first couple of days/evenings it worked great. However, upon further use and closer inspection, this unit is only average. The heater does good job maintaing a level of heat in our living room/dining room. The two are connected through a large open doorway and the two rooms combined are about 500 square feet and there are open doorways to other rooms off them.

I have tried using just the heater to heat our rooms, and the unit is only able to raise the house temp up to 62 degrees despite being set to 70-75. However, if I turn the furnace on and let it warm the house to say 64 and then turn the heater on when the furnace is finished; the heater is usually able to keep the house at 66. Bottom line, it is a different type of heat. If you think it will heat like a small pellet stove, it won't. Will it heat your house? doubtful. Will it heat a single room. Sure.

Works well, no problems and I've had it on solidly for about a month now. Not sure what impact it will have on my electric bill but I'm sure it'll balance out with the lower oil heating bill since the furnace has rarely had to come on. Tip: Use it with a nearby humidifier for best results.

I like this heater. The only problem I have with it is the cord isn't heavy enough. The cord gets very hot and has melted 2 plugs. I think it should be recalled as a fire hazard.

Pros:

-Very quiet. Most noise you will hear is a low hum.

-3 different modes. Low, High, and Fan. Nice to have the fan choice on warmer days.

-Heats very quickly. Heats a moderate sized room in about 20 minutes, and the automatic thermostat is a very nice addition for at night when sleeping.

Cons:

-Only thing I can think of is that I wish the fan was a little more powerful. I wouldn't recommend to use the fan feature as a fan replacement entirely.

Overall, it does it's job perfectly. Great for if you have a room in your house with a bad draft. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable space heater.

Bought this for my desk area at work after my last space heater quit on me. Wow, what a difference! I have to run this on low and it still raises the temp in the whole room two degrees. My co-workers love me!

Honest reviews on Lasko 675919 Stanley Pro-Ceramic Utility Heater, 12-Inch

Using in two car garage. Maintains Avery comfortable temp even when outside is teens twenties. Not much noise and moves a good amount of air. I would definitely recommend this heater and get another for myself. Good value.

17 degrees this morning, two car garage 60 degrees.

Follow up:

It's Late April and still very much like winter in Kansas. This heater hasn't missed a lick since it came out of the box. The electric bill is a little higher, but not as bad as I figured for constant running. Turned my garage into a usable area during the coldest of times. Love it.

Still a thumbs up from me.

At first, I loved this space heater. It was nice and warm.

There were only two small issues at the beginning. One is that the power light is on whenever it's plugged in, even if it's off, so it's rather useless as an indicator. The other is that the "adjustable angle" is a very small angle, maybe a 10 degree change in direction.

Then, one day, the heather stopped working. About 45 days after I bought it, so I can't return it to the store. I used the reset instructions that came with the heater. It worked for another 3 minutes or so. I had to reset it again. It worked for another 3 minutes or so. After having reset it 5 times just tonight alone, I've decided to throw it out and buy something else.

****Update 10-5-11****Unit has died (heating element apparently went out). Now out of warranty since it has been 4 years. On the one had I hate to spend $135+ to get a new one, but on the other hand, once you've had one of these things, it's hard to go back to the traditional coffeemaker. It did make great coffee for 4 years, and I loved having my coffee ready in just a minute or two. Despite the fact that I would have liked to get more than 4 years out of my original purchase, I will probably buy another one.

****Update 2-27-09****

My coffee maker developed a leak. I dusted off my original paperwork, and was very happy to see that this unit comes with a 3 year warranty. I sent it back to Bunn, and they sent me a brand new unit. Painless and relatively quick (less than a week). Yet another reason to buy a Bunn. The only thing I would mention is that I had to pay to have the old unit shipped back to them. Cost me $13 UPS, so it's not really that big a deal, but I just have this old fashioned notion that if something is covered by warranty, it shouldn't cost the consumer a penny to get it fixed or replaced.

****Original Review****

I don't see why anyone would buy a traditional glass carafe coffeemaker. The heating element scorches the coffee after about 15-20 minutes, so if you haven't finished the pot by then, you end throwing the rest away. At least I used to, until I discovered thermal carafes years ago.

I really like this coffeemaker. I am a big coffee drinker, and I usually make 1 pot in the morning, 1 pot in the afternoon, and 1 pot at night. The quality of the coffee that it brews is excellent, and I like the fact that the coffee is ready in 3 minutes.

A few other observations:

-I have not had any problem with the carafe. No spills or dribbles, and it keeps the coffee piping hot for a good 90 minutes, and then drinkably hot for another 2 hours. I especially like the fact that you don't need to open and close the lid to pour the coffee. The lids stays in the closed position while the coffee is brewing and it stays in the closed position when you pour it from the carafe.

-I have not had any problem with the basket overflowing or grinds in my coffee, but I have noticed that the grinds rise up to the tippy top of the filter, and I use Bunn filters which are a little taller than most. Although I have not had a problem myself, I can see where someone who likes an extra strong brew and adds a little more coffee might have an issue. For me it works, and I use about 10 tablespoons of coffee per full pot.

-I don't particularly like the automatic feature that starts the brewing cycle as soon as you close the lid to the water chamber. I would prefer to have a button to press, but its not a huge deal for me. Like another reviewer, I can see potential disaster if I have company or overnight guests and they want to make the coffee, and I haven't briefed them on how the machine works.

-Price is high when compared to the Mr. Coffee type machines with glass carafes, but I really do notice a difference in the taste of the coffee when I visit friends and they break out their $30 coffee maker after dinner. I think the price is a fair price for what you get, and although I haven't had it long enough to comment on its durability, Bunn typically makes products that stand up over time.

-The entire machine does have a rather large footprint, and it is bit taller than many coffeemakers. I have alot of counter space and my cabinets are high, so its not an issue for me, but do yourself a favor and take 30 seconds to measure the space where you intend to put the machine to make sure it will fit nicely.

Overall, if you're into good coffee, and you're willing to spend the money, and you're willing to overlook a few very minor flaws (see above) I would highly recommend this machine.

I bought this brewer in October. At first I was very happy with it. Then the carafe started leaking so bad it was ridiculous. I called Bunn a couple of days ago and the lady told me to wash the spout and the seal around the rim with Dawn dishwashing soap (she specifically said Dawn which I happened to have on hand) and the carafe would perform much better. She said that after a number of uses the oil from the coffee keeps the seal from sealing well. I hung up fully expecting to call her back in a few minutes. I washed the carafe as she suggested and it works like new again... no leaks!! If you have this pot, try it, you'll be amazed at the difference. Now I love this brewer again!

We purchased this to replace an aging Mr. Coffee. The Mr. Coffee was programmable, which was nice when I remembered, but when I didn't it could take nearly 20 minutes to brew a pot. That is a long wait in the morning. We considered this or the Braun programmable, which appeared to be rated well, but I couldn't determine how long it took to brew. I knew I wanted speed.

I got speed. This thing is fast. By two and a half minutes its down to waiting on the last drips to come out of the basket. The coffee's flavor is excellent, but a little weaker than I like. I upped the amount of coffee to the recommended tbsp per cup (which would yield very bitter coffee on other machines I've had) and its back to where I like it. A darker roasted coffee would also add a lot of strength. I enjoy the fact that the coffee doesn't sit on a burner and cook too. The carafe has done a great job of keeping the coffee hot for hours at a time. I've had no real trouble about the carafe dripping.. this may be because the Mr. Coffee trained me to go slower to avoid such drips.

Another point: I checked and the Bunn filters ARE taller than my others. The coffee grinds do get pretty high on the filter, so I can imagine that getting off-brand filters would get you grinds in your coffee. Just buy the Bunn filters at your local megamart. They're not that expensive. Also, decaf and/or finely ground coffee does sometimes overflow the filter anyway. The manual mentions this and offers a free replacement sprayhead to improve this. We don't drink a huge amount of decaf, so I don't think we'll ask for it.

I've tried some premium coffees again, and am happy to report that they are worth it now. A good coffeemaker does make a difference in the quality of the coffee.

Pros: Very fast. Coffee tastes very good. No burning the coffee on the carafe warmer. Keeps the coffee hot. Did I mention fast?

Cons: Coffee seems a tad weak. Very finely ground coffee, and decaf, sometimes overflow the filter a bit. I wish it had a button to press to brew instead of closing the top.. I foresee a big mess if company is up before me (It starts pouring coffee out the basket as soon as you close the lid, you HAVE to have the carafe in place).

Would I have been happy with the Braun? Probably. But I bet its not as fast, and after years of inadequate coffeemakers, I'm happy to have one this quick, and making coffee this good.

Honest reviews on BUNN BT Velocity Brew 10-Cup Thermal Carafe Home Coffee Brewer

We received this coffeemaker as an upgrade when our last Bunn was recalled due to a manufacturing defect. (NB: Bunn has excellent customer service and is conscientious about recall notifications, and I recommend the company highly. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this product.) We have been fans of Bunn coffeemakers for years; our first home machine provided us with at least 14,000 pots of fresh, hot coffee before it succumbed to the ravages of time and Minnesota's hard water. We tried very hard to like this model, but ultimately its flaws outweighed its benefits, and we are now shopping for a new coffee maker. The flaws include:

An incredibly drippy carafe. There does not seem to be any way to predict when it will drip or in which direction. Sometimes only a few drops fall from the carafe; sometimes, it spills 1/4 to 1/2 cup of coffee across the countertop.

The internal assembly (which Bunn fans will know is cleaned with a tightly coiled metal reaming spring) is much more difficult to clean in this unit than in our past ones.

This model also seems far less forgiving of our hard water than previous ones and requires cleaning much more frequently. We've had trouble with calcium buildup even with softened water in both the brewer and the lid of the carafe. This and the completely opaque carafe (in combination with our increasing age and forgetfulness) have led to some huge messes in the kitchen, with coffee running over and even into the cabinets below the coffee maker.

Like most thermal carafes, this one does not keep the coffee warm enough for us, and we go through coffee very quickly. I don't see this working at all for most people.

On the brighter side, you will have a fast cup of coffee most of the time, and you will be doing business with a company that deserves its good reputation. If you ask me, though, I'd suggest you buy the model without the thermal carafe unless you own stock in a paper towel company.

This brewer surprised me a little when I received it. First of all, it is fairly difficult to figure out because it holds two pots of water at a time. For most of us, this is a strange concept. However, it works well because one pot's worth of water stays hot all the time and the other that you pour in, replenishes the hot water in the lower chamber. It seems like a waste of enrgy to me so I put it on a timer to keep it from sitting there at 170 degrees or so all the time.

It brews a great pot of coffee at the proper temperature unlike many thermal carafe units.

All in all a great unit. But if you don't do well at programming VCRs than this isn't the unit for you. This is unit is probably geared more toward commercial or constant use. It brews a pot of coffee FAST as in three minutes because the water is already hot.

The carafe itself is very well made if not a bit tricky at first. You use your thumb to push the top part of the handle counterclockwise while holding the handle in your hand to get the top started so you can open it. Again, a little counter intuitive at first but very well made.

I like the Bunn better than any coffee maker I have owned, ever, but be prepared to have to give multiple lessons on its use to other family members.

This heater is very well made and is not made for instant heat, and it takes about an hour and it heats the air and objects. I am heating 2000 square feet with two of these heaters and the weather has gotten down to 20 degrees and heats the house just fine and stays about 72 degrees in the house I am very pleased with the overall way they work. If you are expecting instant heat in a short period this is not the heater for you it takes a little bit.

In my quest to lower my oil heating bill, @ $4 per gallon, I did an extensive investigation of supplemental space heating solutions.

I bought a DeLonghi TRD0715T oil-filled radiator and a Vornado AVH2 Vortex Whole Room Heater. I also have my 20+ year old Pelonis 4-Disc Furnace--my trusty old Pelonis does not have thermostatic control, only a High/Low switch--I wanted a heater that had automatic control so I could "set and forget.".

The Eden Pure brochure got me interested in Infared Quartz heating. The Eden Pure sounded enticing, but I thought it over-priced, and the extensive research I did indicated there are better and cheaper alternatives in IQ heating.

After checking comments on different brands of IQ heaters, I settled on the Duraflame Colby and decided to buy from a local retailer (Fortunoff Backyard Store) rather than online because if it did not work out, I did not want to pay shipping to return it.

Instead of one unit, I bought two of them since the retailer was liquidating them as end of season merchandise--if I wanted/needed a second one later on, they would be out-of-stock. I have only set up one of them to test. I bought it at a $175 price.

The Duraflame Colby seems well built, with a nice wood cabinet. Sitting 6 feet away, I can feel the warmth, and the unit cycles on and off. However, before it cycles off, it runs to cool itself off internally and is thus blowing cool air. The built-in thermostat is reasonably accurate, when measured against an external thermometer. Whether it can heat 1,000 sq. ft. is still questionable, and perhaps doubtful, and whether it can do so at favorable electric cost is not apparent at present. Since I have only had it for a little over a week, I cannot comment on its durability. It does have a 3-year warranty, and the quality and packaging was good--perhaps an indicator of quality. I am glad I did not buy the Eden Pure--the Colby is so much cheaper.

I am concerned about electricity use since the entire purpose of my experiment is to substitute expensive oil heat with electric heat in the hopes of achieving immediate savings.

These space heaters are considered an investment and need to generate enough savings in one winter, over and above their purchase price, to justify their use. While I may use these heaters for many years to come, I am only considering the investment return horizon as one winter--the space heaters have to generate savings in one winter--my oil usage has to decline dramatically, and my electricity usage should not be tremendously higher in offset. I am investing $600 in heaters and need to recover this cost plus the incremental increase in electricity just to break even. Increasing the time horizon or alternatively figuring in an end-of-horizon salvage value may be reasonable but immediate payback is what I am after.

My plan is to keep my 2 zone thermostats at 60 degrees, and use the space heaters to push the temperatures on both levels of the house above that. I may even lower the house thermostats lower than 60 degrees after I see my electricity bill.

So far, it is still early on in my experiment since I have not received my most recent electricity bill to gauge usage. In addition, it has not been really that cold outside yet. I will update my comments as I gain more experience. In October and December, with mild temperatures, I got two oil fill ups totaling $1,100, so I am super motivated.

So far, these are my findings.

I will need to return the Vornado Whole Room heater, if I can. Judging from the dimming of lights, the Vornado uses a lot of electricity but generates little warmth. My old Pelonis heats up a room much, much quicker. The Vornado is also only suited for a small room, and I think it will use a lot more electricity to heat up the same amount of space that the Duraflame Colby does.

The Delonghi seems to consume less electricity. It generates strong heat off of the top, rising upwards. The lights don't dim as much, and it seems to be able to heat a large area if kept on continuously. I could use it in a smaller area as a continually on device. I may add a fan to circulate the heat. It is a keeper.

The Pelonis is the most efficient--instant and rapid heating. I plan to buy another B-6A1 classic 4 Disc Furnace with thermostatic control, although I am apprehensive that the new ones do not have the same build quality of my original--that original is over 20 years old and still functioning like new. Nothing is built like it used to be. That the warranty now is only 1-year, down from 3-years, which is down from 7-years is an indication of build quality. My original one was made in Taiwan; the new ones are made in China.

If the new Pelonis performs as well as the old one, it will definitely out-perform the Vornado, as it generates more heat in a shorter timeframe thus saving electricity, and with thermostatic control, I would not have to monitor it like I have to do so with my original Pelonis without automatic control. Thus the Vornado definitely has to be replaced.

I will use the Pelonis to rapidly heat a room as needed, and the Durflame Colby to maintain the larger spaces at an even temperature level, and keep the house oil furnace set at a base temperature level.

I will inform later on how this strategy and experiment works out.

UPDATE--OBJECTIVE COMPARISON TEST RESULTS: 1/12/2012

I have had the chance to make an objective comparison, and make further observations about the Colby, along with the other space heaters. I did an objective comparative test of the four space heaters I own, holding as many factors constant as I could.

I used the same room, an enclosed (door closed) 160 sf room, and placed the same thermometer in the same location during each phase of the test. The outside temperature was relatively constant throughout the test periods. I started each phase of the test at the same base level temperature of 60 degrees, and timed the test for 30 minutes for each type of heater. I recorded the increase in temperature achieved by each heater at the end of 30 minutes.

These are the findings:

Duraflame IQ Colby: (60 degrees to) 67 degrees, 7 DEGREE increase (in 30 minutes).

DeLonghi Oil-filled Radiator (pre-heated--non-cold, plus external circulating fan): 66 degrees, 6 DEGREE increase.

Pelonis 4-Disc (20+ year-old unit): 64 degrees, 4 DEGREE increase.

Vornado Whole Room Vortex: 67 degrees, 7 DEGREE increase.

The results were surprising:

Subjectively, I had thought the Pelonis would raise the temperature the most, since its heat is instant, intensely hot at close distance and it just subjective felt warmer. I will repeat the test with the new Pelonis I ordered when it arrives--maybe because it is 20 plus years old, the output is diminished, even though it seems as strong as when new.

I was impressed that the Delongghi achieved a 6 degree increase (I started with a warmed up Delonghi and not from a cold start because the DeLonghi needed time to heat the oil, and I added an external circulating fan since the Delonghi's heat only comes out of the top and hot air rises--thought this would make it more comparable, as the thermometer is resting on a bed and not hanging from the ceiling, and it does not have a fan to circulate).

I was surprised that the Vornado was able to match the 7 degree increase of the Duraflame Colby. The Vornado is not promoted as a large area heater--just as a "whole room heater." The mfg. rated output is 5,118 BTU's. I was going to return it, but based upon the test results, I've changed my mind.

The Duraflame Colby in comparison is somewhat of a disappointment. It is rated at 5,200 BTU's, matching the Vornado, but promoted as a 1,000 sf heater. I would have expected it to be able to raise the temperature the most (fastest) since it is promoted as a large space heater, thus presumably more capable of pushing out more heat--but it just matched the Vornado.

In using the Colby to heat my upstairs area, about 800 sf, I had noted that the temperature did not rise much in spite of continuously running on cycle. Given this objective test, I can only conclude that the Colby would not be able to heat 1,000 sf, and is at best a small/medium room heater. That being the case, I am not going to keep the second unit I purchased to heat large space. I have a call in to Twinstar--the manufacturer--to see what they say--to see if I have a defective unit or whether such performance is what is to be expected.

Given the results, the Colby is not a good value (typical retail at $200 plus shipping, althought I bought it for $175 plus tax=$190), being twice the price of the Vornado at $98--I got the Vornado from Hammacher Schelmmer at $120 plus shipping--one pays more at HS than Amazon. The DeLonghi is the best value--I bought it from Amazon for $68. The new Pelonis (to be received yet) was purchased at a cost of $75.

I hope the above test results will be helpful to prospective purchasers. An objective test certainly changes subjective perceptions--ie, it reversed my opinion of the Vornado's effectiveness, and I am going to keep rather than return it. It makes my decision on keeping the second Colby easier--it will not do what I expected it to do, heat a large space. The DeLonghi is confirmed as a keeper. Too bad about the Duraflame Colby--I like it and had hoped it would heat large space, and wanted to keep both units. Now I will just keep one for small space heating. I lowered my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars, taking off one star for performance and one star for manufacturer's stipulations not met.

FURTHER UPDATE: 01/13/2012

JUST GOT MY NEW PELONIS 4 DISC FURNACE TODAY. DID COMPARATIVE TEST LIKE BEORE. THE NEW PELONIS WAS ABLE TO RAISE THE ROOM TEMPERATURE BY 7 DEGREES FROM 60 DEGREES, AS OPPOSED TO ONLY BY 4 DEGREES WITH THE OLD PELONIS, ALL OTHER THINGS HELD EQUAL. RE-TEST OF THE OLD PELONIS CONFIRMED 4 DEGREE RISE ONLY.

However new Pelonis has awful smell--hope it outgases. Sides of new Pelonis gets warm, unlike the old Pelonis, which stay cool. Case, grill and cord on new Pelonis all inferior to old Pelonis.

In summary:

Duraflame 7 Degrees

Vornado 7 Degrees

DeLonghi 6 Degrees

Pelonis New 7 Degrees

Pelonis Old 4 Degrees

In summary:

Thus all types pretty much comparable in 30 minute test. BTU rating is determinant of heating ability. So beyond hype and claims of marketers and manufacturers, it is a matter of features and value.

Re the Duraflame Colby, it cannot heat 1,000 sf; for about 600 sf open area, it runs non-stop for hours and only manages to raise temp 1 to 2 degrees, when house heating is set at 60 degrees--had to supplement with Vornado and/or Pelonis to further raise temperature, thus running multiple heaters for the same space--defeats the purpose--might as well raise the house thermostat.

The Colby is best used as a small/medium sized enclosed room portable heater--but as such, the other alternatives do equally well.

A call to the manufacturer, Twinstar, to check if I have a defective unit, did not result in a timely response--still waiting. Will definitely return the second unused unit.

UPDATE: 11/30/2012

The remote failed to work. Changed batteries, still no luck. Contacted Twinstar and the telephone answerer took the model and my personal information and said a technician will contact me about sending out a new remote--strange procedure--I guess they outsource customer support. I had this heater for a month now and have used it on and off this fall. I wanted to use it to heat a 825 sq foot area. The heater could not heat this area. I have a seven year old prefab modular home that is very well insulated. I wanted to heat the open floor plan of the first floor which is 825 sq feet. The outside temperature was 50 degrees and I set the heater on 70. The farther away from the heater the less it heated. The manufacturer stated it will heat up to a 1000 sq feet. The heater is made in China. I decided to use it in the master bedroom which includes a walk in closet, and master bathroom. It worked great there and it's about 400 square feet. It's a nice looking heater and I like the remote control. The heater did smell the first couple of days but got better after a while. If you're looking to heat up to 1000 sq. feet you may be disappointed. I like the heater. I purchased this heater at Northen Tool on sale for plus shipping.

Honest reviews on Duraflame Infared Quartz Electric Portable Heater Air Purifier

I purchased this heater with the hopes of saving a little money on my oil bill this winter. With 2 little ones and a wife at home all day, heating the whole house when everyone is downstairs in 3 rooms didn't make a lot of sense. After reading a fair number of reviews, I decided to take a chance on this unit. We haven't gotten our 1st electric bill yet, but we've been using it almost every day. This unit takes about 45 60 minutes to reach full heat output, but once it does, boy does this thing cook. I have been able to lower my thermostat 3 degrees and have a warmer downstairs than with the furnace alone. Turned up, the space downstairs becomes uncomfortably hot. Our furnace is cycling on noticeably less than before when this is in use (my thermostat is located about 25 feet away from the heater, on the far side of a wall). The heat is even, the fan noise isn't any louder than our forced-air HVAC, the front grill doesn't get hot to the touch (the heating elements are contained within the body of the unit), the cabinet is very attractive and blends-in well with our furniture. Plus, it is well-made and comes with a remote. So far, I am very happy with this heater.

** update 11/17/2012 **

This unit works so well we're going to buy a 2nd one for another room. Drawing only 1500W also makes this an option when running on generator power, if you don't have a transfer switch installed (we will, but don't yet). This one's a keeper.

Use in an older home not very well insulated and it gets comfortable within 2 hrs of starting. Works well for the cold basement too! Have it set on 74, hasn't gotten below 30 deg outside yet but have no doubt with a top heat of 97 it will handle below zero weather! Strong smell on 1st startup and a lil noisy for some consumers.

This space heater is by far the best I have owned. My office is in the basement in a 17' x 11' room. There is no heat in the room, and it gets very cold. Over the past 20 years, I have owned an assortment of space heaters, but none have come close to this one. To test the space heaters, I time how long it takes to heat the room using an atomic clock that also includes the room temperature. It was 48 degrees in the office this morning. It is now 65 degrees after an hour and ten minutes. This fan-forced heater increased the temperature dramatically. To test it further, we brought the heater to our master bedroom, which is 24' x 24'. The temperature was 58 degrees when we started it here at 8:00 last night. By 10:00 it was 65 degrees in the room. We couldn't believe it. We also own Lasko oscillating fans that absolutely blow away the competition. They have a wider blade span and produce what feels like twice the breeze. We are going to purchase a couple more of these space heaters. My opinion you're not going to find a better space heater than this one.

I bought this about four months ago to keep me warm while I work in my home office. It worked great for the first two months. Then, about once in every 6 or 8 hours, it would suddenly turn off. Following the instructions that are printed on the back, I would reset it by unplugging it, waiting 10 minutes, and then turning it back on. Then it would run for another 6 or 8 hours.

However, about a month ago the time between resets became shorter and shorter, until finally it reached the point where it would only run for 10 minutes before needing another 10-minute reset. That's such a hassle that I've pretty much quit using it.

It's not completely dead. When it's plugged in, the red power light is glowing. And, as noted, it will run -and heat -for about 10 minutes before shutting off.

I see where a couple of reviewers had units that went completely dead. But I'm wondering if anyone else has had the problem I'm having, and if there is any solution (short of returning it).

I found the Lasko 6251 while looking for a small space heater. The idea was to heat the area around by more immediate work area while turning down the thermostat for the rest of the shop. I didn't want an oscillating heater, just a small and more focused unit. The Lasco is small and stays out of the way. It has a clean appearance and it is quiet. There is control of temperature and fan speed and a timer can be set for folks like me who leave and forget to turn the heater off.

The unit puts out a lot of heated air volume, even when the unit is set to low speed fan. Air flow direction is set with a small lever that controls louvers positioned in front of the heated air outlet. I have my heater in my Maine workshop set to the lowest setting and lowest fan speed and that is enough for me to work in short sleeves. Finally, great price.

Honest reviews on Lasko 6251 Electronic Fan-Forced Heater with Warm Air Motion

This is truly a cool-touch heater. The outside of the unit never gets hot, and since I bought it for my 18mo daughter's bedroom, that is very important. Also, the tip-over sensor works great. Would be 5 stars, but it draws a lot of power, enough that it sometimes trips the breaker. However, I live in a very old house with very old breakers (the kind that are just a panel of switches on the wall) and I'm pretty sure the breakers are a bit weak. Would probably not have the same problem in a newer house.

This product meets most of the space heater needs I have been looking for: I'm using it primarily in my motorhome to reduce LP gas furnace use, and the heat outlet is at the top so I don't have to worry about my cat getting burned by a heat spot--he is shorter than the exhaust grill. The fan is pretty quiet and temp setponts are a nice advantage, but those thermostat setpoints only work on high heat "for my convenience." After my room/moho is warm I prefer to use the lower wattage setting--it is safer--but then I can't use the thermo-temperature setpoint. What were they thinking? My guess is: NOT thinking. If this is not an issue then I highly recommend this unit, especially for the price.

This mini fridge may be good in the car but we bought it for our beverage bar for cream and it just doesn't get cold enough. It is loud, throws off a lot of heat, and it's hard to get the door to close. I'm keeping it only cuz it's too much trouble to return it. Maybe we'll use it on trips but not working for what I wanted.

Not any use as a fridge. Maybe as a warmer, or, as a box with a nice door.

Not recommended.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is an unexpectedly nice fire ring! I am using it tonight around my front yard firepit (a scooped out dish in the ground, lined with limestone rocks).

The design is not too 'cowboy kitch': the horses are stylized, and can mix it up with more than the bear-and-moose decor you often see around cabins.

I like it for lighting a fire in my pit to watch as the sun sets over the red rocks. This is really pretty when flames are burning.

It functions more for looks than as a windbreak, although it does help some with wind.

SORT OF PORTABLE

It manages to be lightweight for a hunk of metal. It's easy to carry around, once assembled, and sturdy enough. It contains a fire nicely around a small to medium firepit. A large firepit, as in one containing wooden pallets, would be too big.

Note that this fire ring is only somewhat portable. It does break down into four pieces that nest together, but you need to realize the pieces/bolts will be covered with soot (and possibly hot) and you need to use a tool to tighten and release the dirty (hot) screwbolts.

With that in mind, you can still pick up the entire ring and toss it in the back of your pickup, which makes it 'portable'. It's not heavy or awkward to carry for a 5'4 woman like me.

I can see cleaning it off and breaking it down at each season's end to store nicely in my RV for travel.

There is no sack for the included bolts and tools (just a tiny ziplock), or for the four metal pieces that make the ring, so I will have to figure out some way to keep all the pieces together when disassembled in the RV basement. A canvas carry bag would have been a nice touch.

NOT A FIREPIT

For people who intend to set up the ring once and leave it alone, assemblage is a non-issue. Realize this is NOT a firepit. There is no top or bottom to the ring. If you set the metal on flammable materials, the fire will not be contained. Use your own best judgement with fire! :)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program We've been thinking about building a fire pit near the woods at the edge of our property along with some chairs and some steps to lead up to this area. This CobraCo ring is the perfect size for what we need. It is quite easy to assemble and looks great where we placed it. It would be nice to have an ash tray or sorts but with the very flat location we have, it is very easy to clean out. With it easy to assemble, makes it very easy to clean and take on a camping trip.

Best Deals for CobraCo FRHORS369 Horse Campfire Ring

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program As long as you know that it will suit your specific needs, I think this is a nice product. It's quite large in circumference, but low in height, so it's perfect for a low-burning fire you spread out so several people can stand or sit around it. Just be aware that it's only a ring with no bottom, so you need to have an area cleared for it on the ground. You can't use it on the grass, for example.

They call it portable, and technically it is, but it's more practical for use on your own property. If you do plan to take it camping, it's best if you're going to stay in one place for awhile. Putting it together and taking it apart multiple times will get tedious. It's fairly easy to put together. Just be sure you have all the bolts in place all the way around before you start tightening the nuts. Otherwise it's hard to fit the later pieces together.

The metal seems quite sturdy, but it has some sharp edges, so be careful if you have kids who want to help. Also keep in mind that everything's going to get sooty with use, so assembly will get messier over time.

Honest reviews on CobraCo FRHORS369 Horse Campfire Ring

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have a rudimentary fire pit right off my patio and enjoy a bonfire on cool evenings or when entertaining family and friends outdoors. I decided to order this because I thought it would be safer if my paver-lined dirt pit had sides to keep the tree branches and cut logs within. The ring works really well for that purpose, but make sure you understand that this is a ring and has no bottom so it will have to be erected or placed on top of some sort of fireproofed base. This was easy to assemble right out of the box 4 curved black metal panels with 12 screws and nuts secured using the two wrench tools that were included in the package. The sides are about 9 inches high from the ground and the diameter is about one yard (36 inches) so keep that in mind when setting it up and laying the wood inside for the fire. I don't plan on disassembling it to take on any camping trips, but it seems that it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to do that if you wanted to pack it and haul it. The pieces fit inside each other. The metal pieces are painted black and seem sturdy, and look like they will resist rust.

I'm sure I will enjoy this for years to come!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This campfire ring works well. It is heavy enough that it holds up well and stays in place, but yet easy to assemble and take apart and transport.

We go to a beach that allows small fires on the sand and this is perfect. I have always worried about logs rolling off and into someone sitting near. This solves that problem since it contains the fire in one place and the ashes too, for easy clean up once everything has cooled.

At home we laid some paving stones in a square down by our picnic table and this is nice for atmosphere and warmth and better still it is more fun for the grandkids and us to roast marshmallows over and make s'mores. We do not have to all stand around a grill; we can sit and have some old fashioned fun and campfire stories too.

I purchased this product in Oct of 2010, and the heating unit gave out by Jan of 2012 (slightly over a year later). This product looks great in my house, the worked great the first winter, however, when starting the heater the second winter, it made a very loud grinding noise. The noise quit after a little time, but eventually came back, shortly before the heating unit died altoghter. I called the company today (it died a good month ago, and just now getting around to calling..Feb 2012) to get the response of "since this product is 2 years old, there is nothing we can do. You need to do some research on your own to find out how to get it fixed. You could call the Manufacturer but because of the age, they won't do anything either."

I'm disappointed in the short life of this product, highly disappointed in the customer service of the company (and btw, product is slightly over a year old...not 2 years old), and highly disappointed that this company is not willing to stand behind their product, or even offer suggestions of how to go about getting it fixed.

I just got my fireplace this afternoon. It came very quickly and the delivery service called ahead to let me know when they were coming which was nice. It came completely assembled, just plug it in!!!! It looks really really nice in my small cottage type home. I know it isn't real stone due to the weight of the unit, but it looks and feels really real. The compact size is perfect. Check the measurements since it looks bigger in the picture. The mantel looks like the one on my fireplace growing up. The fire looks so real its just funny! It warms up really quickly. Down side, there is no remote and the blower continues to blow even if the room has reached the temp it is set at. That makes no difference to me really. I am so pleased with my purchase!!!

This fireplace is so real looking its hard to believe it was shipped fully assembled as well. It looks great if you have a more rustic manly decor look going. It's great for a smaller house or townhouse but itsnt that small that it doesnt look very real. The stone also is amazing looking the picture I believe gives this no justice and the value compared to other electric stone fireplaces is about half the price. This is a must if your looking for that rustic look and keeping warm at the same time.

Honest reviews on Electric Fireplace with Mantel and Multicolor Stone Facade

although made out of fiberglass, the stone looks pretty real. the color is a little bit darker than the photo on Amazon. the top and bottom of the fireplace is a light greenish color. before this purchase I looked at some electric fireplaces at my local lumber stores and must say that this flame looks less realistic than most of the others I have looked at. It also has a glass front instead of the wire mesh front witch I like. The heater puts out more heat than I expected, it heats my big living room but i do have a very good insulated home. The only reason for 4 stars is the fake looking fire. i will try to post a video of the flame if I can.

I wanted this fireplace for my den. I needed something small so that it wouldn't overwhelm the space. However, this fireplace appears larger in the picture, and when you consider the measurments provided by the manufacturer, it even sounds larger. So I've taken a few measurements to help you determine the actual size of the product.:

-The mantle & base: 40.5 inches wide by 11.75 inches deep by 5 inches high.

-The faux stone fireplace cabinet/body: 34 inches wide by 8.5 inches deep by 31 inches high.

-The firebox: 17.25 inches wide by 16.25 inches high on the outer aspect

-The firebox window: 14.25 inches wide by 12 inches high

The firebox isn't pictured very well on the picture provided by the manufacturer, so I added some pictures myself. Just so you know, there is only 1 log on the fire. I'm not entirely impressed by the look of the log, but the detail of the faux brick on the inside of the firebox is really nice. I think the faux stone also looks really great! The heating function is very effective as well.

Overall, I'm very impressed with this fireplace. I would definitely buy it again, and would also recommend it to others.

I actually like this heater; it's quiet and keep you warm. However it broke in less than a year.

Bought this in July 2010, and broken on Feb 26, 2011.

We actually didn't use it very frequently; only about 1 2 hours a day.

Luckily Amazon willing to send me an replacement with no cost. Hopefully it will last longer this time.

I will write an update later for the replacement.

I've been using this heater regularly for over a year now and it still works just like it did when brand new. When I got it, the remote didn't work. Amazon sent me a new heater with a new remote and the new remote also did not work. I eventually figured out that the batteries in the remote were dead so I had to replace the batteries. This is my first radiant heater. I'm never going back to forced air heaters again. It feels like a fire or the sun but it doesn't get so hot that you can't have things near it. It heats up very quickly. It doesn't dry out my skin like forced air heaters.

It's a bit soon to give a final answer about this space heater. It meets my expectations as far as function. It is attractive and seems to be of quality construction. I don't have an electric bill since I began using it and I don't know if it will last a year. Those are two important factors that can only be determined with time. Pardon me for withholding a glowing review, but experience has taught me that it's the long haul that matters.

My last blower went out and I thought I was going to have to throw away my electric fireplace. I had a heat surge Amish wood built electric fireplace and we loved it. The blower started making terrible noises, thumping loudly. I knew the blower went and when I tried to get the part replaced through Heat surge they first told me they wouldn't sell me any parts, then told me $90!! I found this on amazon and now my electric fireplace is working perfectly. My kids get up in the morning and turn it on, we run it most of the day as we live in an older house with no insulation. Installation instructions didn't exist, and getting the fireplace apart took some time but taking off the old one and replacing the new was self explanatory and easy.

I have a ventless gas wall heater that needed a little circulation. This unit is so quiet and efficient. I bought an 80 degree thermal switch to allow it to turn on when warm and off when no heat is produced. The unit has a thermostat so everything is automatic. Our house is 115 years old and made of adobe and brick with plaster. The furnace does really well until it gets to be 10 degrees or below outside and the extra heat from this unit is great. Also, I feel better having the backup in case I am away and the electricity goes out. Of course, the little fan won't blow but the pipes won't freeze. The price was great and was shipped well packed. It can be attached with sheet metal screws easily and with the automatic thermostat it is self maintaining.
