We have a small house, just under 1000 square feet. Any new appliance has to take up less square footage, if possible, than the one it's replacing. This Bosca fit the bill nicely. I was concerned, though, about a few things before I bought it. Was the hopper big enough to keep the stove burning 24 hours on a minus ten degree day? Was the force of hot air strong enough to warm up the farthest room? Was it easy to keep clean? Was it reliable?

I'll address each concern with answers, now that I've had this stove for one month. I should mention that I do not use this with a thermostat, so it is constantly on.

The hopper holds about 60 70 pounds, and during one very cold stretch that included a night with temperatures hitting 25 below zero, we kept it on medium high all day. The house stayed at 70 degrees with no other source of heat being used. The full hopper lasted almost exactly 25 hours at this rate. This is better than I expected. On normal cold days, say, 20 degrees above, we keep it on low and it lasts 36 hours.

The force of the blower is stronger than that of a stove I had that was designed for twice the area. Far better than I expected.

It is so easy to keep clean that I don't even need to wash my hands after vacuuming it. Because the air intake is from underneath, not through a space adjacent to the front glass as in so many pellet stoves, the front glass stays clean for days. The burn-pot is so ingeniously designed, and this stove is so efficient, that you can burn several bags of pellets before you even think of having to clean the burn-pot. And when you do, you'll see it's a two-part pot: you pull out the U-shaped part with holes, scrape it clean, and place it back into the burn-pot holder. Voila, you're done!

It has never let us down. We can set it, fill the hopper, go away for a day, and come back, and it's firing away beautifully.

Our experience with this stove has made us enthusiastic about looking for other appliances made in Chile.

Replaced my burnt-out defrost heater. Product arrived in the original GE box. Installed easily, works as it is supposed to. This unit has the defrost switch and harness attached, so there is literally no fiddling around with splices or such, just unplug the old one and plug this in. Whole repair cost less than 1/3 what it did to have a repairman do it the last time.

There seems to be some confusion in general about which heater you get. My unit originally had a single tube defroster, which GE has deprecated in favor of a 2-tube unit that fits in its place. I actually thought I was getting the 2-tube, but instead got the original 1-tube. Easier for me, but the 2-tube might last longer. GE supposedly changed units so the energy density in the tubes would be lower, for longer life.

This item was 66 bucks locally. I replaced the same part in my beer fridge 3 years ago. This looks to be from a different manufacturer so it could last longer, the original one in the fridge lasted about 9 years. Hopefully this will last at least that long. Cant beat the price tho!

Was scared at first that it would be delivered and some of the logs would be broken. I have heard a few people say this had happened to them. Not particularly with this product or company, but in general. Anyway, it got delivered to my house and within 30 minutes I had it up and flaming. Nice set, remote works awesome. Important to note, the connection point for gas in on the back right-hand side. On the unit I was replacing, it was on back left. Luckily I had a longer flexible gas line in my garage.

I bought my fan in January 2012, and it shipped from Hardware Sales. The fan worked fine out of the box. It warmed up and started spinning in a matter of minutes. It only took a few more minutes for me to notice the difference it makes. The fan is virtually silent, and it does not produce any noticeable air movement (you have to put your hand rather close to it to feel the air move) but it works! I've been having trouble with very cold corners of my house, but this fan really spreads the heat out. It should pay for itself pretty quickly as I will be able to turn off supplemental electric heat in various rooms.

The down side:

My fan worked for less than 24 hours. It slowed way down, though the stove temperature was still hot enough to be powering the fan. Confused, I checked Caframo's website and found a question about slowing down on the FAQ page. It asks you to enter your model, and if you select 812 AirMax (this model) it then asks for the serial number to your fan. I entered my number and a page popped up saying that this particular fan was part of a bad production run and that it needed a replacement motor. It asks for address info and then confirms that they will send a replacement motor free of charge. They have a video on their website to show how to replace it (simple task).

So. . . if the product had worked properly, I would have given it 5 stars. Since Caframo seems to acknowledge the problem and makes it easy to remedy, I'm willing to give it another shot. Until it's up and working though, I have t give it 1 star.

What's a little bit irritating is that they know which ones are problematic, but that did not stop it from arriving at my doorstep. With more organization, I would think they could make an effort to recall the product from their distributors and replace them before they get into the hands of customers. In the meantime, I'll be paying for heat for a few more days.

In addition, Caframo should have informed me of the defect when I registered the product online (which meant entering the serial number).

I am glad I checked their website, otherwise I would have just thought it was poorly designed and that I had wasted $130. I feel bad for customers who might not check up on it and are stuck with a poorly working fan.

I'll update my review once the problem is fixed.

I bought this hoping it could replace the blower that is built-in to my woodstove, because the blower is very loud and uses electricity. This fan does look very cool, uses no electricity, and pushes a decent amount of air. I'd probably need 2 of them to come close to replacing the blower.

However, there are some issues with this fan that prevent me from using this as I had hoped. It's still a useful purchase, but I figured I'd spell out some of the issues so other people can be aware of some of the limitations before they buy this.

-as far as I can tell, the fan does not automatically start. I've waited until the stove was 550 and the only way to get the fan going is to manually give it a spin. I have a thermostat on the stove top

-it takes a while for the heat from the stove to reach the fan, so you have to wait like 20-30 minutes after the stove has reached temperature before the fan will work.

-the fan spins very slow at lower temperatures. It really only pushes a good amount of air at like 500-600.

Unfortunately, this vastly limits the fan's usefulness to me, as I usually start a fire before work or bed and leave while the stove is still at 250-300. I don't have time to wait another 30-60 minutes for the stove to be at a high temperature and the heat to have reached the fan to manually spin and start the fan.

It's a neat little device and works great on days that I am home. It also works great when I have company over and I can turn off the loud blower. But it doesn't work so great for the reason I bought it. I don't regret purchasing it, but I do wish it did more.

Best Deals for Caframo Limited 812AM-BBX Heat Powered Wood Stove Fan

This worked great the first couple fires or so, but then it slowed down dramatically. The instructions that come with it warn you to not use it above a 600 degree fire or so. I have a thermometer on my stovetop that goes to 850, and my fires sometimes get that hot, depending on what kind of wood I'm burning. I'm usually around the 700 range as a high temperature, but I'm sure I've been up to 850. I don't know if I damaged it, or if it just wore out. I certainly don't want to babysit my fire just to have the fan.

Honest reviews on Caframo Limited 812AM-BBX Heat Powered Wood Stove Fan

Living in northern Vermont yields some very cold weather, wind, snow & very poorly insulated houses, which is precisely our problem. We'd been looking to purchase one of these fans for several months & finally jumped on it after seeing one at a friend's house on their gas stove. They LOVED there's, had it for several years without incident & said the fan really does make a huge difference. We are so thrilled with this little fan; it works SO well, whirring right along, moving all that cold air that comes in right around across the stove for an outpouring of so much warmth, pushing it throughout the house & reaching even the coolest areas. KICKING ourselves for not buying one earlier in the season! NO noise! Perfect!!

I have read reviews about people holding tinsel & paper in front of the fan and not seeing any movement, which I think is either one of three things; either your fan is broken, misplaced on the stovetop (directions tell you exactly where to place it) or simple ignorance. If you want to SEE movement, don't hold your paper or tinsel or tissue directly in front of that fan, hold it to the outer sides of the fan where the blades are actually moving the air from & wait until your fan is really whirring (stovetop temp 450-650 degrees). If you can't feel the warmth moving across the stovetop, you're doing something wrong or your fan is broken.

I also don't think that this is overpriced. We're saving on electricity, we're heating the whole house, the tornado of a fan we had plugged in before did nothing but cool the stove down & keep the house nice & cold in the morning when the fire had died down with the electric fan still blowing across it. This little guy keeps going & has made the most tremendous difference in heating our 1800 sq foot, very poorly insulated home. We have a big pot of water on the opposite side of the stove, too to help with humidity & the fan helps disperse the water vapors more, too, which also adds to the warmth & comfort level. SO should have gotten one sooner!! If this guy quits on us, we'll definitely be back for another one. Seriously a great product!

I have seen these around for a while, but always thought they were a little gimmicky and kind of expensive. I bit the bullet and bought the larger unit, the 812, for my wife for Christmas, along with a stove thermometer so we could see what temp our stove was actually running at. Now, my situation is a bit different in that I have a coal burning fireplace insert made by Hitzer, so I am burning either nut or pea coal in my stove, not wood (except in the Spring and early Fall during which time I burn some wood to take the chill out of the house). It turns out that when my coal stove insert is loaded up and running for its normal 16 hour stretch between refills (yes, that is why I switched from wood to coal, even though I get wood for free in my back yard), it runs right around 425 degrees F, which happens to be ideal to make the fan spin like crazy, but no where near the 650 degree point at which the fan could be damaged. Contrary to what I read in some of the reviews, we can absolutely feel the warm air being pushed away from the stove and into the family room where the stove is. My insert does have a built in fan which works extremely well as circulating air all around the fire box and pushing it out into the room, BUT, it is noisy AND it uses electricity. The Ecofan just sits there spinning happily with virtually no sound whatsoever. I thought if nothing else, it would make a nice, attractive conversation piece, but after using it for a month now, I will say that, like the title says, I should have bought one of these years ago!

Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I read the reviews prior to purchasing this coffeemaker. We knew about the leaking around the bottom, but from one of the reviews we thought it could be easily fixed.

When the coffeemaker arrived, the first thing I did was tighten the screws as described in one of the other reviews. Put water in the container and it leaked badly. I then tried food grade gasket paste but that did not stand up to the heat. So I found a good grade ruberized gasket that would work. Okay, the coffeemaker could now finally make coffee.

The coffee was strong, hot, and good. Has an automatic shutoff after two hours. The container it brews into is not air tight, but the coffee was still good enough the next day that you could nuke it and enjoy it.

One big minus was that if you used the reusable metail filter you had to have it centered perfectly and I mean perfectly to keep grounds from going into your coffee. For some reason, the brew basket is much bigger than the filter and you have to align it by eye.

The coffee maker worked for 6 months and then the rubber gasket wore through. I could not find another one. Only 6 months of use out of this coffeemaker that has an obvious engineering defect straight from the manufacturer. (They put a metal plate at the bottom of the "bucket" that the coffee brews into. The metal plate is warmed from underneath to keep the coffee hot. However, when they attach the plate to the plastic bucket they use 4 screws; and nothing else. This is where it leaks. There is no way to tighten 4 tiny screws into plastic enough to make the connection watertight. The manufacturer really messed this one up.)

You will be disappointed if you purchase this product. I would recommend you purchase something else.

i bought this to replace my cuisinart coffee maker..... what a mistake.... the only reason why i bought it is because it says commercial. this is not a commercial coffee maker... i should have figured that out with the price also. it is very poorly built... is all plastic if you move it the wrong way it will brake no doubt about that. the coffee resevoir spills out coffee when pouring and after pouring it drip. this did not last 1 week i returned it. thanks to amazons great return policy i had no problems and got my money back.

We LOVE this coffee maker. I love that that you can just place your cup underneath without having to handle a carafe. The coffee is always made quickly. For larger coffee mugs or tumblers, we just use our hands to push the button behind the cup to make it work. Not hard to do.

Recently while cleaning The very top lid came off, only held by small plastic pieces to the main part of the coffee maker (hinge of lid). It was still under warranty so we are getting a new coffee maker in the next few days.

Overall, great product. We use it at least 3-4 times a week.

I purchased the Olympian Wave 6 Catalytic Heater during the summer of 2007, for use in our 1987 Starcraft Nova Popup Camper. The camper has an 11' box, so it's a fairly large camper when opened up. I had already installed an OEM Duo-Therm forced air furnace. It worked great, but the blower fan in these forced air furnaces are noisy, use alot of 12 volt battery power, and the furnaces use quite a bit of propane. Every time that furnace turned on, it would wake us up. Then we'd lay there listening to the blower run for 10-15min. When it finally shut off, instead of being able to go back to sleep, we'd still be awake, anticipating the next cycle.

The Wave 6 Heater is an amazing heat source and fits the use in this camper perfectly. I purchased the feet for it, as well as the available protective cover for storage (I highly recommend you buy the cover because you must keep the platinum catalytic mat clean). I had a 10' flexible rubber propane hose made and T'd that into the existing fitting under the fold down sink cabinet. A small brass ball valve is located at the T in order to turn off/on propane flow into the flexible hose to the heater. At the other end of the 10' hose is a propane quick coupler (purchased from ) and this allows the hose to quickly be "snapped" on to the male fitting that I installed on the heater. A quick note about these propane quick couplers. There are several versions made; a low pressure and a high pressure. The Wave heaters use your low pressure system in your camper/RV/MH/TT/5er, but you can use either the low pressure quick coupler set up, or the high pressure. Some campers/RV's/etc. use these quick couplers from the factory, so if you're having trouble matching an existing coupler, it may be because you're trying to mate a low pressure with a high pressure, or vise-versa. Call the folks at mbsturgis and they can help.

When not in use, the heater stowes under the dinette seat. It takes just a few minutes to get the heater out before going to bed, and set it up. Per the manufacturer's instructions, I open the roof vent about 1/2", and the lower panel of the screen door the same amount. Sometimes I'll unzip just a few inches of the upper corner, of the side bunk windows, but not always. We never have a condensation problem.

The heater lights quickly and in about 5-10min. is fully "cooking." Set on medium, it will keep the camper 71*F inside at an outside tempurature of 51*F. I leave it run all night and it keeps us toasty warm.

A word of advice on using heaters in campers; do your homework if you're worried about carbon monoxide poisoning. By that, I mean call the manufacturer and get your information straight from their technical support, or even their engineers. That way, you have actual data, instead of all the story telling that is so common on many RV website forums.

Bottom line: This is an outstanding product that's extremely well designed and built. It's easy to use, super efficient, quiet, and just cranks out the heat!

UPDATE: Dec 2012

We're still using the Wave 6 heater after 6 seasons. Still love the thing. It still runs all night long, while we sleep. I wound up making "thumb screws" that allow me to take the feet on and off faster. I install the feet at the beginning of each camp trip, and take them off on the final day of the trip, and the heater just sits out of the way on the counter during the day. The thumb screws are just 5mm allen head "bolts" that I threaded into 5mm wing nuts. I tightend the allen head bolts really tight into the wing nuts, so the wing nuts make it easy to spin the bolts through the legs and up into the heater's threaded lugs. Hope that makes sense.

To give an idea of how little propane these heaters use, we had an 8 day camp trip this year, and only used 3.8 gallons of propane. That included about 10 days of running the refrigerator, and 8 days of cooking 2 meals per day on the 3 burner carry-out stove, and using the Wave 6 from about 8pm each night, until around 6am the next morning.

My little travel trailer came without an LP Furnace. I originally thought this would be a huge drawback and prevent me from dry camping...until I discovered the Olympian Wave 3! What a fantastic little unit! It's every bit as powerful as a forced air 12000BTU LP furnace, however it has some big advantages-1. it's completely silent. No loud blower motors to wake you up every time they turn on; 2. it doesn't require any battery power (an LP furnace won't run if your battery dies); 3. it's smaller, lighter, and portable than an LP furnace; and 4. With a hose and leg accessories, you can move the heater around to wherever you need it.

The only disadvantage is that there's no thermostat control-you only have two heat settings (low and high) that stay on as long as the unit is on. But since it's more consistent radiant heat, once it warms the interior, you can maintain a consistent temp inside by just adjusting your windows or roof vent.

Unlike cheaper catalytic heaters such as the "buddy" series or the Coleman "cats", this one uses much less LP per hour (since it uses low pressure LP rather than high). It also works in higher elevations (where the others can't operate above 5000 feet or so).

Highly recommended product that will last you for years!

Best Deals for Camco 57331 Olympian Wave-3 3000 BTU LP Gas Catalytic Heater

We bought this heater for our travel trailer. We enjoy "dry camping" (no power or water) in the the desert during the winter and needed a heat source that does not run down our batteries. The heater is ideal from that respect. It does not require a blower and it does not use power to control the flame.

It worked well for us at first. After a month or so of regular use we noticed that it started to smell and then our carbon monoxide detector alarm sounded in the middle of the night warning of carbon monoxide levels high enough to kill. (Wouldn't you know it, it was the coldest night we ever experienced in the desert, -18 degrees!!)

Camping often means dusty conditions. It is not stated in the on-line specifications or mentioned in the reviews or in the manufactures description that this heater is not suitable for dusty conditions. Only by careful reading of the operation manual can this be discovered. We went ahead and installed the heater hoping that we could keep the dust down. Although we thought we were being careful by keeping it covered when not in use and practiced good housekeeping, the heater failed because the catalyst got "poisoned". Once it failed we found that the warranty does not cover catalyst poisoning and it was too late to return it. We now have a heater that we cannot use because of high carbon monoxide levels.

Be aware that this heater can be deadly. In a dust-free environment the heater will probably give years of use, but if you plan to use this heater, or any catalytic heater for camping, be aware of the limitations, check the operation manual before you buy it and use a CO detector.

Honest reviews on Camco 57331 Olympian Wave-3 3000 BTU LP Gas Catalytic Heater

Great heater for my application which is providing both heat and maintaining heat within my Pop Up camper. Like a previous reviewer I recommend the accessories such as the Camco 57701 RV Black Wave Heater Leg Stand Pack of 2and Camco 57713 RV Wave Heater Dust Cover. This allows your Wave 6 to stand on it's own and the cover protects it when not in use. I've used this heater in 26 degree Fahrenheit. Granted at 26 degrees It was getting help from my OEM propane furnace, but I used the Wave 6 to maintain the heat so as to lengthen the duration between the furnace running as it uses so much more propane and drains the batteries. The Wave 6 sips propane and requires no electricity. During cool weather and cold weather camping we either keep it running on low or activate it as the sun sets and set it to low, medium or high depending. As stated it heats up pretty quickly, but do not start it when your camper is in the 30's and expect it to heat it up. Won't happen, at least not quick enough. This comes from a very unpleasant experience. Funny now, but not then! Best to activate it when the camper is comfortable or just starting to chill and you'll be pleased with the results. Another accessory I found essential is Camco Manufacturing 57633 3/8" Elbow Swivel. This is available on Amazon, but I could not get a link for this review. Last and most important is make sure you get the needed length of hose and fittings. The heater will not do you much good if you can't connect it. Again from experience. I tried to get a 1/4" male quick connect fitting that would fit the existing female quick connect fitting on my camper while on the road, only to discover that the fittings are not of standard design so one manufacturer's quarter inch male quick connect fitting does not mate with a different manufacturer's quarter inch female quick connect fitting, even though they are both quarter inch gas fittings. It was very frustrating, took a lot of unscheduled stops and detours and about a month to finally get what I needed. I strongly recommend getting this done several weeks in advance of any planned trips. All that said, if you own a Pop UP, Tag Along, Fifth Wheel or Motor Home, you'll love this heater if you are a serious dry camper. It also comes in the smaller Wave 3 and the larger Wave 8.

Hi All.

We have been using a Mr Heater, and a Wave #6 Propane Heater, for about 8 years now. The only time you notice any smell at all, is the very first time your fire it up. Its just that new smell that you noitce. It goes away very quickly. Since we do almost nothing but Boon-Docking, ( No Hook-Ups at all ) we never, ever use our RV's Furance at all. First of all, because it will suck down one Battery per night. And second an RV Furance at best is maybe 40% to 50% effective, which means it really sucks down the Propane. And the last issue with any RV Furance is that they make a whole lot of noise all night long. Where as the Mr Heater and the Wave #6 Propane Heater is totally silent and use's no power at all. You can either Permantely Mount the Wave Heaters or use a Leg-kit and use the wave #6 as a Portable.

As mentioned, you must keep your Wave Heater's Pad, Covered and Clean all of the time, or you will poision it for sure. I have met other RV'er who hhave used the very same Wave #6 or the Wave #8 for almost 20 years wiht no problems. We also have never had a problem either. Take care of your propane Heater and it will take care of you. You can have it repaired, but it cost almost as much to just buy a Brand New Wave #6 Heater, and start with a new Warranity. The Mr Heater is a good Propane Heater also, but it is only good to about 6500 feet, and it does put out a liitle bit more Carbon Monixide than the Wave #6 does, which is almost nothing, compaird to the Wave #6, and is good up to 12,000 ft. Others have mentioned Moisture issues. If you vent properly, you can easily manage this. We used both of these Propane Heaters in our last 5er. And now in our 34 ft Class A Motorhome. The Wave #6 is tapped into the Motorhome's Low Pressure System. I use two 12 ft Low Pressure Propane Hoses connected together. So I can move it any where I want it to be in our Motorhome. Our Motorhome is not what you call an All Season RV. But just the Wave #6 Propane Heater has keep us very comfortable down into the singal digit numbers in the winter. In cold weather Boon-Docking, a Wave #6 Propane Heater can and does extend your time that you can stay out and enjoy yourself and the winter time. If for any rreason that ours should ever quit working, we will buy another one for sure. I do make sure our Motorhomes Furance does work properly, for just in case of an emergency only. Good Luck. Happy Travels

We bought this to heat up specific areas of our drafty apartment. Mostly, we've been using it in our living room, which is miserably cold in the winter. The room is about 10x14, and this little heater maxes out to warm it comfortably. I used it one day to jumpstart the temperature in my son's much smaller room and it was effective in minutes. It really is for smaller rooms.

Pros:

-Does warm quiet well

-Stay cool housing

-Automatically turns off if tipped over

-Two fan speeds for heat, and one for fan alone (I can't tell any difference between low and high, though)

Cons:

-It's quite loud. If you're watching a movie, or trying to talk on the phone, it's a bit intrusive

-The cord gets warm. That seems rather worrying, except that we never leave it on or plugged in unmonitored. I don't feel like it is suddenly going to explode, I just wouldn't leave any electric heater on or plugged in with our old-house wiring (we even unplug our toaster when we're not using it)

-It's not very efficient if the heat is not turned all the way up comes off and on every five minutes or so, which, combined with the noise level, is a little annoying

-Also the grate on the front (pretty small) does heat up, so it'll have to be out of reach if you have crawlers or pets.

All this to say, we're keeping it. It's already here, the price was right and it makes our frozen tundra of a living room quite cozy. I'm just going to pretend the noise is the sound of crashing waves on a seashore in the tropics.

After just a year, my husband's control goes to "E" (for error?) when he'd move. The cord at his feet is always fully and tightly plugged in--so it seems to be a short in the actual surface area of the pad. Nothing we can fix. (We are both slim, with no pets or kids in the bed too. I haven't even washed it either.) Another drawback, is the plug-in being right where each of our feet are at the end of the bed. I'll definitely look for another brand.

Within less than a year, this item has heating elements that no longer work, leaving many cold spots in the bed. Additionally, the part where the cord plugs into the mattress cover is right where your feet hit. I'd take this back if I still had my receipt.

This heating pad is GREAT! You can feel the coils a bit if you just use it alone, but if you put another mattress pad over it, you can't feel anything besides the plug connection at the bottom, and that is not bad. AS for the heat, it is great for taking the edge off a cold bed before you go to sleep, and keeps the bed nice and warm without being hot!. I would recommend it to anyone. Controls are very easy to use and it is easy to set up. The dual controls are great since my wife likes it quite warm, but I like to turn it off after getting into bed.

Honest reviews on Biddeford 5202-505222-100 60 by 80-Inch Quilted Skirt Heated

The only complaint is the wires are quite noticeable.

I bought this model because it has dual controls and dual wiresets.

I won't ever use it, but my wife commonly "freezes" at night.

She says it's wonderful.

She usually runs it at 6 (out of 10) and is quite comfortable.

Bonus when one controller or wireset eventually breaks, I can swap it for "mine" and use it even longer.

This company has zero customer service. Before you buy this product, try calling and emailing them. They don't answer the phone and they will not respond to your emails. I wanted to buy a replacement controller when mine got zapped in a power surge. I entirely understand that such a failure would not be covered by the warranty, but my efforts to reach the company to make a purchase have been frustrating and fruitless. I will never buy another product from Biddeford.

Got one of these today. Thot the other guys that had this problem were just unlucky, and decided to trust the Honeywell name. Boy, was I wrong. SureSet, my foot. The thermostat in this device does indeed seem to be measuring the temperature of the unit itself, although not the actual element, maybe the heated plastic body. I do not recommend that anyone buys this heater if they want to use the automatic mode. It functions well in the high and low constant heating mode. I have a lasko 5365 heater as well, that works well in all modes.

Update: Lasko 5365 is displaying same odd thermostat behaviour, I am beginning to think this behaviour is a product of the environment where the heater is used, and not just poor manufacturer design.

Update 2: Confirmed that 5365 thermostat works fine if heater placed in middle of open space to be heated as opposed to against a wall. HZ-338 thermostat performance doesn't seem to improve when in open area.

I purchased a white version of this heater elsewhere about a month ago. I love it. It is in my daughter's bedroom, which tends to be colder than the rest of the house.

At night, I turn it on to the low setting, set the temperature, set the timer, and it does the rest. It isn't as loud as my older heater that it is replacing, and I don't have to worry about remembering to turn it off in the morning.

I have since purchased a second one for my bedroom.

I have not had any of the problems the other reviewer mentioned.

The thermometer of this heater is completely messed up. It does not measure the room temperature, but the temperature of the air that has just been heated up. In other words, if your room temperature is 60 degrees and you program it to heat up the room to 70 degrees it will do so (according to the thermometer reading) in less 2 minutes and stop. If you do not use this functionality, but instead let the heater run for some time (5-10 minutes) the thermometer will want to make you believe that the room temperature has gone up to 90 degrees. The thermometer is probably in the wrong location. Did Honeywell do any kind of testing before putting this model on the market ?!

Honest reviews on Honeywell Sure-Set Ceramic Heater with Oscillation, HZ-338

Ditto the other's observations... The thermostat seems to register the temperature of the unit itself rather than the room... I had the thing in a 63 degree room, had it set to 85 degrees. It would register 90 after 30 seconds of running, turn off, slowly ramp back down to 84 degrees over a 2 minute time period, and then repeat. The temperature of the room never got above 64 degrees....

My daughter has been using this unit in her bedroom everyday this winter. It does a good job of heating her room. HOWEVER I've noticed that the plastic case has actually started to warp and MELT, the seam where it's put together is starting to open, you can see the wiring inside.

I live in a rural area and have been eaten alive by the high cost of heating my home with with LP gas. I heard about these heaters and talked to a friend who repairs hvac for his opinion. He said these eden pure heaters are really nice and use approx. $30 a month in electricity to run. I was skeptical until i received my first months elec. bill while using this heater. There was a 400kwh's increase from last decembers bill. at 6.6 cents per kwh, 6.6 cents x 400kwh = $26.40

I usually run this heater for 10-12 hours a day everyday and longer on weekends. The temp outside has been very mild so far this winter. Our average daily temp has been about 30 degrees and when the eden pure runs, my lp gas furnace is quiet and never cycles. This little beauty keeps it very comfortable for us. I would recommend to anybody! just leave your furnace set at your usual temp and then fire this thing up and you'll see true savings. I have a tri-level home and keep this in the bottom den on an inside wall. I opted for the signature model because it has higher wattage and a humidifier. A very nice heater and i'm very pleased with it! Would buy again!!

I have a 1200 sq/ft home and was getting tired of huge heating (gas) bill, decided to give it a try. I have had it close to one month and so far it works better than the old convection heater, but for $340 more I expected at least that much. We leave it on close to the highest temp. all the time and lowered our t-stat 2 degrees. It does not heat the whole house and the room it is directed at is still a little cold, but better than it was before. Still waiting on the first gas/electric bill to finalize my verdict, but overall I was expecting more than I got.

1500 watts gives you exactly 5118.15 Btu's. Heat can be radiated or convected, but with resistance heating you will never get more than 5118.15 Btu's. Edenpure forever has been duping people with a product that looks sexy, but tends to be unreliable and expensive as well. One of their promos actually touted the "original designer" as having discovered a revolutionary new type of heater which is pure hogwash. Go elsewhere and don't believe their bogus claims.

Really the only way to get high efficiency with electric heat is with a heat pump some of which are literally 6-8 times more efficient than the resistance type.

Honest reviews on EdenPURE Signature Series Infrared Portable Heater

Why on earth would anyone pay four hundred bucks for a 1500 watt electric space heater? You can buy the exact same amount of heating capacity for about one tenth of the cost at any hardware store. Oh, wait... sure, this one has a humidifier built into it. And umm... it also supposedly has a UV light bulb in it to sanitize the air.

The way that I look at it, though, if you are going to buy a heater then you should just buy a heater and be done with it. If you need a humidifier then buy one of those. Clumping together different components in the same cabinet is just asking for trouble.

And besides, do you know what a UV light bulb is supposed to do? It kills biological stuff, the stuff that just isn't present during the heating season. UV bulbs are great for killing off the slimy stuff that grows in the condensation drain pan of an air conditioner but they don't do a damn thing about the primary air contaminant present during heating season: dust. For that you need a really good air filter...preferably one connected to a central forced air system so that it cleans the air in the entire house.

As for the humidifier... well, it is true that humid air will make you feel warmer than dry air but this is usually a phenomenon that occurs in the summer when the air is already humid and you are working up a sweat at some physical activity like, say, cutting the lawn. And it's not very pleasant to feel sweaty, is it? A humidifier is good for several things in the heating season: keeping your sinuses from hurting, preventing damage to wood floors and furniture and keeping static electricity in check. But... in order to actually feel warmer (sweaty) you would have to raise the humidity level to the point where condensation begins to form on the insides of your windows. When that happens the water runs down the glass and damages the sill. Not good. By the way, you will get tired of having to continually refill the water reservoir pretty quick and then it won't humidify at all. Good humidification requires several gallons per day in a typical home...how many ounces of water do you think this thing can hold? If you need humidity in the heating season then shell out the bucks for a whole house humidifier that fills itself automatically and is controlled by a humidistat. That's the smart thing to do.

So... even though this miraculous heater has a built-in UV bulb air sanitizer and humidifier, these aren't exactly huge benefits...actually they border on uselessness. And besides, if one component decides to break then you are going to have to do without the entire thing while you send it in for repair. That's why separate components makes more sense from the standpoint of functionality.

Now aside from these two "features" you have the heater itself. It is a 1500 watt electric space heater in a faux wood cabinet with a remote control temperature adjuster. It has a little squirrel cage blower. It uses three 500 watt halogen light bulbs to produce heat. The heat warms some copper pipe that the fan blows air around. That's it. The fact is, though, that any 1500 watt heater (almost all of which are vastly more reasonably priced) will put out the exact same amount of heat.

Now someone else on this page spoke glowingly of how much money they saved by operating this thing instead of an LP (whole house) furnace. Bear in mind that yes, he is only heating ONE room rather than the whole house...definitely comparing apples to oranges there. But let's just take a look at some numbers...

First of all, almost no one in the USA pays 6.6 cents per kilowatt hour. Don't believe me? Look it up. An average price is way closer to 10 cents per KWH. And if you are "lucky" enough to live on the east or west coast then you are probably paying between 12 and 15 cents per KWH.

Second, the only way that this turkey is going to keep your furnace from operating is if it just happens to be parked in the same room as the forced air thermostat. If that is the case then you can bet dollars to donuts that the rest of the house is seriously under-served in terms of heating. If you live in a place where it gets really cold then operating an EdenPure near a forced air thermostat (or worse, turning the furnace completely off) could very well result in frozen and/or broken water pipes elsewhere in the house. But that's the "strategy" that EdenPure promoters push: Stay in one room with the electric space heater and seal off the rest of the house without any heat. That can really get you into trouble in cold climate parts of the country.

Okay, now back to the number stuff... Let's say that you have a 10 cent per kilowatt utility rate. Let's also say that the heater is on 50% of the time. There are 720 hours in a thirty day month so that would be 360 hours for 50% operation. 1500 watts x 360 hours is 540 kilowatt hours. Multiply that against a ten cent rate and you get 54 bucks. Think about that for a second or two: 54 bucks to heat ONE small room in your house for a month. And remember, that is assuming that it's only on for half the time. What if it's on for 2/3's of the time? Or 3/4's of the time? Yikes! Not good, campers, not good at all. And holy cow, what if you live in New England where it's cold AND the electric rate is over 15 cents a KWH? Double yikes!

EdenPure is basically promoting the idea here of heating one room in your house and either not heating or severely under-heating the rest of your home. If this is your idea of comfort then have at it. Me? I'm thinking that if you can't afford to heat your house properly then maybe you have a little too much house.

Seriously, though, if you want to save money on heating then instead of using this stupid overpriced electric heater idea, why not invest in some actual energy saving home improvement stuff? Seal up air leakage points on the building exterior walls. Improve the insulation values in the ceilings. Insulate your water pipes. Is your floor insulated? You would be surprised at how many people live in a house with an un-insulated floor built over a ventilated crawl space. There are all kinds of energy saving ideas out there that you can use to lower your monthly utility costs. Most of them are pretty easy to do and once you do them the improvements are good forever.

The bottom line here is this: Electricity is your worst heating value (unless you operate a heat pump but that's another story). The EdenPure is a ridiculously overpriced portable electric space heater. There are vastly cheaper portable electric space heaters that deliver the exact same amount of heat regardless of the nonsense claims made by the EdenPure hucksters. Sometimes you DON'T get what you pay for. The EdenPure would be one of those times.

*And one more thing: Anytime I see someone gushing over what a great value the EdenPure is, I'm thinking they are probably selling EdenPure heaters.

Consumer Reports, February 10, 2010:

Heating Claims Don't Add Up

Manufacturers of electric space heaters want you to believe that using one of their devices will lower your heating bill. Lowering your home's thermostat(s) and using your main heating system less in tandem with a space heater--called zone heating--will cut your utility bill. (Every degree you lower the thermostat(s) can save you about 2 percent on your heating bill.) But keep in mind that based on current national average prices and adjusting for the energy losses due to burning a fuel, heating with electricity is about two and a half times more expensive than heating with gas, the most common heating fuel in this country.

EdenPure suggests that "you can turn the heat down in your house as low as 50°F, yet the room you are in will be warm and comfortable. When you move to another room, the EdenPure goes with you. Its wheels make relocation a snap." That scenario assumes that you have to heat only a single room to heat at a time or that you own multiple EdenPure space heaters; that once you're in a room you stay put and don't move around the house; and that you're willing to keep the rest of your home at a chilly 50°F. Lowering the thermostat(s) by 3°F would likely result in minimal discomfort for you and your family, but are you willing to keep your home at 50°F?

...Its design essentially negates the radiant-heating effect, so it operates more like a typical fan-forced convection heater. While a fan can help mix the room air, there is typically some temperature variation, with cooler air near the floor and warmer air near the ceiling.

Humidity Information Seems All Wet

EdenPure says its heaters "protects the humidity level and air quality important to breathing comfort and personal health," and also notes that "Heat from the copper tubing rides the humidity in the room and provides moist, soft heat--ceiling-to-floor, wall-to-wall--without reducing oxygen or humidity."

Simply put, when you heat a room with any space heater and don't also have an additional source of humidity, say a humidifier, the total moisture in the air in that space will stays the same but the relative humidity will go down, not up. That's true for every space heater we've tested...

It was love at first sight, A great looking heater, producing oodles of heat even in upstate New York, and using 1/3 of the wattage of my baseboard heaters what's not to love? I picked up six of them and mounted them on various walls around the house.

The honeymoon ended after 18 months. The heater in my bedroom started singing a tuneful but dolorous melody whenever it turned on. A few weeks of that and it sang no more. Curious, I removed it from its wall mounting and discovered large, deep cracks on the surface of its backside. Even more curious, I started removing some of the other heaters. Though only three had scary cracks, all showed some signs of cracking. It did not seem to matter whether they had been mounted on interior or exterior walls. They cracked. I wish the manufacturer had gone to Corning for the ceramic!

Fire hazard, I said to myself.

Divorce was inevitable.

As we try to turn back the temps at night, so we dont heat a 2,000 sq ft house, while we sleep under the covers...I have 2 kids which dont always stay under the covers!

So I used the typical space heaters for a while, ugly as the are, and at 750 or 1500 watts, they kept the room temps up just fine.

Along comes this wall unit, at 400 watts. It attaches to the wall, can be painted to match the room, plugs into any outlet, and one can heat a small room by itself.

While I do not recommend these for primary heating, because they take too long to warm up, I HIGHLY recommend them for seconardy zone heating for bedrooms.

Connecting two of more per room, and you probably could use them for primary heating and *could* take the place of base board heaters. But 2 or 3 panels would take up a lot of space and not look good, thus I do not recommend replacing baseboard heaters with these panels.

These are on simple switches out of the box, there is no thermostat. I have found the Lux WIN100 Smart Temp Fully Programmable Thermostat to be the ultimate solution. Set the times you want the heater on and off, set the temps you want, plug it in, then plug in the heater...and your done for the season.

My house is heated by a propane fireplace. With the cost of propane rising dramatically, I bought three of these heaters last year and used them all winter. I heated my full 1200 square foot living area with those three heaters at an approximate cost of $1 per day. I can't recommend these highly enough. And if you have children or pets, they are very safe--they do get hot, but not hot enough to burn you. Plus, they are totally quiet.

I have recommended these heaters to friends and neighbors.

Honest reviews on Eco-heater 602 High-Efficiency Electric Panel Whole-Room Heater

In a word...Hooray. Low energy consumption (400 watts), no tipping over, easy to install, nice toasty heat, this heater has many benefits. My home is heated by a centrally located fireplace (so I'm already a fan of radiant heat) and I use this heater to keep a bedroom warm. Installed this about 1 week ago and so far so good. As promised on the packaging, it really does only take 10 minutes to install.

The only downside is that the panel itself does get reasonably hot, it's true that it's safe enough that you can touch it and not get burnt, but you won't want too do that. I was going to install in a kids room, but had second thoughts after giving it a test run. Also it would have been great for the manufacturer to include information re: direct wire installation or use of a thermostat. ..but these are really minor points compared to having a great heat source that is safely out of the way, mounted to the wall, and efficient.

I bought this heater to install in the nursery so the baby's room would stay warmer overnight while the rest of the house went down to 60 degrees. The house has attic insulation, but no wall insulation, and there are storm windows.

The good about the heater: It is unobtrusive. We have it installed on an interior wall out of the way. It is easy to install; it took about 10 minutes. It keeps the baby's room warmer than the rest of the house. I also like the fact that it uses less power than a standard heater. Not only is it cheaper to run, I have fewer concerns about overloading circuits. I like the fact that it has a paintable surface, although I haven't decided if I am going to paint it. I have heard that painting radiators reduces their efficiency and I don't know if that applies to this heater.

The less than good: We have had this heater on in a rather small room (10 by 10) with a hot water radiator system, and over night it only seems to bring the temperature about 5 degrees above the temperature in the rest of the house. Based on other reviews of this heater and others, I ordered the plug in thermostat. I think I will return it because I won't ever need to turn off the heat because it is too hot. Also, the passive heating means that it takes a while for the heater to have any impact on the temperature of the room. I turn it on at 6 pm so that the room will be comfortable when the central heat goes down to 60 degrees at 10 pm. My final concern is that the heater says it can be mounted at any height, but that it works best closest to the ground -6 to 18 inches above the baseboard. I was hoping to install it higher so my baby wouldn't accidentally burn himself on it. Since heat rises, I should have realized this flaw in my logic.

I don't think this is a bad product, it just isn't as good as I wanted it to be for $150.

Update 03/06/2013

I have had the heater for about two weeks and it had worked flawlessly. I use it to supplement the heat from our heat pump when the heat pump cannot keep up. Its usually when the temperature is in the teens or below zero.

I'm increasing the star rating of the product to Five stars with the some notes and comments.

Product ***** (5 Stars) Works as described and if you are lucky to get a undamaged product.

Product Packaging * (1 Star) I would advise the company to package the product with a lot more padding. The heater is a heavy items and everytime I have received the heater, the accompanying styroform padding is disintegrated when I open the carton

Price *** (3 Stars) I bought the Sunheat original heater, Black Cherry color that sells for $329. The other colors sells for $379 and it is still somewhat expensive.

Power consumption I will update once I have a meaasure the power consumption

Customer service ***** (5 Stars) Amazon customer service is outstanding. Even when I had to deal with 3 defective/damages heaters and one empty box incident that didnt' contain any content, Amazon customer service was outstanding

OTHER NOTES:

I use the Sunheat heater in the living room and feel safe using the heater with a toddler walking/crawling around. The issue I face is that there should be some way to lock out the control buttons on the main heater unit as my curious toddler seems to press the buttons on the unit and mess up the settings. Since the unit already comes with a remote, I would suggest that the manufacturer please look into incorporating this feature which would be very beneficial for the consumer.

Update 02/18/2013

I placed a new order for the Sunheat heater (Black Cherry color) on 02/18/2013 and received the heater on 02/20/2013. The heater arrived in one piece without any issues. Let me review the heater once its been used for a couple of months. Stay tuned....

Update 02/08/2013

When I placed a replacement order for the Sunheat Black Cherry heater, the website showed that it was out of stock. I checked the order status daily. I was happy when I saw that my replacemewnt order had the message that it was shipping soon. When I tracked the replacement Sunheat heater, the UPS tracking information showed it was delivered on 02/05/2013 and was left at my front door. When I went home from work, I saw a smaller box left at my front door that could not physically contain the Sunheat heater due to its dimensions. Also the box was light as a feather. I opened the box and there were some brown paper packing materials in it. An empty box was shipped to me by the amazon fulfilment center. When looking at the Amazon website, the inventory for the Sunheat Black Cherry color still showed out of stock. I called Amazon customer service and explained the situation. Amazon customer service infromed me that they will refunded me the amount. They asked me place a new order when the item is back in stock. I'm still curious to know as to how I managed to get an empty box without nothing in it. All in all I'm still without a Sunheat heater.

Initial Review

==============

I ordered the original Sunheat infrared zone heater with the remote on January 17th 2013. I ordered the Black color and paid $379.00. It was delivered to me on January 22nd 2013. I'm an Amazon Prime memeber and this was delivered using 2 day shipping option. The heater had its own cardboard box, that was shipped inside an amazon box. I opened the heater and noticed that the wood cabinet had a small ship on the side. Hence I requested a replacement. The replacement was ordered on January 22nd and was delivered to me on January 25th via Amazon Prime. Everything looked fine outside the heater. But when I picked it up I could hear noises of nuts and bolts loose and clanking inside the unit. Even though I wanted to return this, I wanted to give the unit another try. As far as the heater it functioned without any issues. But I was not able to set the heaters internal clock. I set the internal clock to 8:24PM and after ten minutes later, when I checked the clock, it still showed 8:24PM. (The internal clock is an essential component of the heater and it is used to program the start and stop times). I wanted to get a replacement unit and placed the order. But I cancelled the order for the Black unit as I saw the unit with the color I wanted at a cheaper price offered by Amazon. I order the Sunheat heater with the Black Cherry color for $329 ($50 cheaper than the Black color) on January 25th and it was delivered to me on January 29th. The outside of the cardboard box looked tattered and beaten up. I still opened the box thinking the packaging inside might protect the heater. But I was incorrect in my assumption. The heater was pretty beat up and whole cabinet unit fell apart when taken out of the box and also there were lots of big nicks and dents on the cabinet. I have requested for the replacement and I'm awaiting to receive it.

Positives

Very good zone heater if you are lucky in getting an undamaged unit

Fast shipping if you are a Amazon Prime Member

Depening on the color choices, you can find the prices cheaper. Example Black unit sells for $379 where as the Black Cherry sells for $329

Amazons hazzle free return policy

Negatives

Bad packaging/carton that disintegrates during shipment

Hit and miss on the receiving a good working heather. (Seems like playing the lottery)

Purchased several months ago, plastic smell as described, didn't last long.

Has been great so far. I would purchase again if needed.

Update... the smell did not last long.. is meant for the mattress I purchased, not this item. My apologies! This liner is a quality liner! When I need another I WILL purchase the same brand. :-)

This was a good liner, however it was not as thick as I thought it weould be. I had ordered the King Size and it seemed to be a Higher Quality. However this liner was 8" tall and good I was satisifed with it.
