I just bought this a few days ago because my bedroom has massive windows that are hard to insulate, a cold front just swept in, and I walked to my place on Friday and my bedroom was 62 degrees. My roommates aren't here enough for me to throw money at our thermostat.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

I actually was underwhelmed when I first turned on the unit. Hot air slowly raises from its grate. It doesn't blow out sideways like you'd think. So, the first night, I placed it on the floor and used my laptop at the edge of the bed so the low velocity hot air would actually hit me directly. I was going to take it back the next day.

But after an hour or so, the room warmed up from 64 degrees to 72. When I left my bedroom to get a drink, the frigid air from the rest of my house greeted me as I opened my bedroom door and I ran to the refrigerator to get a water bottle before running back to the warmth of my room. At that point, I realized this product was perfectly fine, I just expected something that was more direct.

WHAT THIS PRODUCT IS FOR:

This product is something you turn on in an enclosed room to gradually heat it. That it has a thermostat setting indicates this, as it will turn off when the room reaches a certain temperature (you can set it 65 to 80 degrees or just "Always On").

This is *not* something you turn on and sit in front of when you're cold. For this purpose, you might want a radiant heater or a ceramic/fan heater that shoots the air out with more of a velocity. This product lets the hot air ooze out of it because it heats the room through convection.

I actually give it 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 because it doesn't do a good job explaining its purpose on the box. The 180/360 degree marketing stuff is just misleading and the feature of being able to close half of the grate is just a gimmick since this product is terrible if you buy it as something to place next to your rocking chair.

PROS:

Super light. Move it from room to room. Take it to the bathroom with you. Take it to your girlfriend's house. No big deal. Try doing that with a heavy portable oil-filled radiator.

Looks great. Just a black minimal tower and I like contemporary aesthetics.

Comes with a remote control which makes sense since this is something you could place in the corner of the room and it still works.

Quiet but definitely audible. I like the breathy low velocity sound of this heater, but if you want 100% quiet, go with a radiator.

Comes with a timer on it (1, 2, 4, 8 hours)

Works.

CONS:

The whole 180/360 grate cover is a gimmick. I just leave half the grate covered as it faces my bed, but it's more of a mental thing since I won't feel the heat until the general temperature of the room rises anyways.

Air slowly rises from it. You can't feel heat with your hand half a foot away from it at grate level. You'd have to move your hand away from the device up at about 45 degrees to follow the heat. This isn't really a con since this device isn't a spot/fan-forced heater, but I'm trying to make this point clear.

This heater works great! My bedroom is 13x11 and our furnace broke this last winter (Detroit, Michigan area) so it got pretty cold, and this heater worked very well. Needed one with a remote if I got hot at night so I would not have to get up and mess with anything, just one click on the remote and it would be off. Kept me very warm on many 10° to 20° nights here in Michigan. I would buy it again. Just as a tip, the heat that comes out of it comes out at a 45 degree angle upward, not like straight out. Meaning, you should probably set the heater on top of the box it came in to elevate it and get better heat spread like I did. (Just a personal note, I do not use the "360 mode" I don't think it works as well, but the "180 mode" works flawlessly!)

The remote lets your turn it on, off, fan on high or low, and set the temp. Infra Red remote so you can point it in the general direction and it will work. (Expectantly at night, half asleep!)

I purchased this space heater thinking it would be a quality product since it is made by Honeywell. I could not have more wrong!! I am on my third unit and it is going back.

The first one wouldn't shut off when it reached the set temperature.

The second one clicked and clicked, made the lights flicker and seemed very unsafe. Used it twice.

The third one worked for a wee bit but then it started in like the others. It clicks and shuts itself off even when in the full on setting, or before the time selected is up, as soon as 5 minutes after turning it on.

When it did work it did a nice job of heating my 14x14 room. It can't handle a room larger than that though.

Save yourself a lot of trouble and buy some other heater. This one is horrible!!! I only gave it one star because I had to fill in one.

OK Bangs and clangs on start up,heat doesn't project out far but remote control is handy and is fully functional.

In all fairness I have to say this product still works as a heater, but it is overpriced and is really annoying to use. I would suggest you get the $20 Lasko ceramic heater which works much better and gives the same heat.

First of all the $60 price really doesn't give you much more feature than my $20 Lasko heater. If anything, this honeywell is just bigger, takes more space but doesn't give more heat (it has the same wattage: 900W and 1500W).

However the most annoying thing about the Honeywell heater is the digital control. It defaults to Hi heat and in order to change it to low you have to press the button 5 times, that's because they combined the Hi/Low settings with the thermostat settings. So the state goes from Hi, 65, 70, 75, 80, Low. I like the Low heat and I turn this thing on and off often, so it's really annoying that every time I want to use it have to push the power button, and then press the temperature settings 5 times just to get the Low heat settings. That's 6 times pushing the button! My lasko heater can do this with just one switch.

I've owned this unit for less than 8 months, including the winter. It was installed in late fall and seemed to work well. Now that hot summer temperatures have arrived, it has stopped functioning properly. It comes on, runs, and cools quite well in the morning. However, in the afternoon when outside air temperatures often surpass 100°, it stops cooling. With the thermostat set as low as 60°, it will turn off the compressor even though room temperature is 75°, 80°, or even 85°. The filter and coils are clean, the air intake/output unobstructed, the fan set to Hi, the mode set to Cool, and there is no ice buildup, yet the air is not being cooled 80% of the time. I've contacted Frigidaire and will update this review after they reply. In winter, it worked well as a supplementary heater.

UPDATE: I finally received a response from Frigidaire. I had to tweet my problem to their attention because they never replied to my contact via their website. Here's what the representative said:

"On behalf of Frigidaire, I welcome the opportunity to assist you in resolving your concern.

"As both a representative and a consumer, I certainly appreciate and understand your frustration. While we expect that our products will meet and even exceed our consumer expectations, the experience that you encountered is unacceptable and not typical of the quality products that we produce day in and day out. Because we stand behind our products, services and valued consumers like you, we use interactions such as these as a way to enhance our quality and overall operations.

"At this time and based on what you have described it is best that an Authorized Service Professional diagnose the issue for you. Below I have provided a link that will assist you in locating local technical assistance.

This unit installed easily and works very well. Carton arrived a little damaged, but the unit seems to be fine. Although it is considered to be a secondary heat source, it heats my insulated barn (340 sq ft) just fine, on its own with temperatures dipping into the 20's currently.

Honest reviews on Frigidaire FRA14EHT2 14,000 BTU Through the Wall Air Conditioner

Amazon does not stand behind their products for more than 30 days. So if you are planning to make a large appliance purchase do so from a brick and mortar store like Lowe's or Home Depot. At least then if there are problems down the road they will stand behind the product. They did not stand behind this unit when I had problems one year later.

My Frigidaire unit appeared fine upon delivery. I bought it for a room under construction, so the unit was not installed for six months. After the installation the a/c worked, but the unit did not provide any heat. This is an air conditioner with heat model, so I was surprised that the heat did not work. I hired an HVAC contractor to diagnose the problem, and I watched as he carefully removed the casing and opened the control board. There we found a damaged wire and a cracked casing. This damage was most likely caused in shipping and was completely undetectable upon delivery. It is the result of being dropped. You would have to take the machine apart to detect the damage.

I followed up with Frigidaire and with Amazon, the "store" that sold me the unit. Frigidaire offered to pay for the part but not the labor, and told me that every unit is tested before leaving their warehouse. They were clear that the problem occured with Amazon.

So I contacted Amazon, who said...."I'm sorry to hear your Air Conditioner didn't work out. Because more than 30 days have passed since you received this item, we can no longer accept a return. Our returns procedures states that within 30 days of delivery of your order, you may return most merchandise in new condition, with the original packaging and accessories, or any defective merchandise, for a full refund. Eligible baby items purchased from or fulfilled by Amazon can be returned up to 90 days after delivery.

I'd recommend consulting your owner's manual and/or contacting the manufacturer to see if the problem in question is covered by the manufacturer's warranty."

So beware of Amazon for appliances. Any future failure, even if related to their shipping or the unit being defective from the start, will not be corrected. They offered NOTHING to address this issue.

The product is installed and seems to work fine. I am pleased with its performance so far. BUT, while the online listing shows a weight of 97 lbs. (boxed, I assume) and the manufacturer's packaging shows a product weight of 88 lbs., the materials used have apparently changed. I was so shocked at how light the package was when it arrived that I challenged the vendor and ended up having witnesses present when I unpacked it (just in case). I have not thrown it on a scale but it seems to actually weigh about 50 lbs. As long as it works well, I don't care but be prepared for the surprise. The vendor reports that they have received additional comments on this issue from other customers.

I live in South Dakota, and for those of you who don't knowit can get VERY COLD here. Right now we're having a little "arctic blast" as the weather service calls it and our high temp today was -1 degrees Farenheit, with wind chills 30-40 below. We have a nice, but older 1960's home with old insulation and windows, plus hardwood floors which makes it harder to keep the rooms warm. This heater is a new model for Delonghi, so there weren't any reviews out there when I bought it so I took a chance on it, and I'm glad I did. It kicks out alot of heat, has a programmable thermostat, and has the option of oscillating which spreads the heat around quite well. As far as the loudness goes, yes it is a bit loud for some people, but certainly not even close to a hair dryer!! . But you do get used to it and its great for white noise if you need that to sleep at night. The only thing I dislike about it is that it beeps every time you change a setting, or move it, which is a little annoying. Overall I like this heater VERY much, it puts out alot more heat than our other Delonghithe DCH1030 (smaller, non-oscillating, no remote, not programmable)and even that one is a good heater. We use the DCH4590ER in the evenings after work in the living room while keeping the house thermostat at about 67 degrees. When its time for bed we move it to the bedroom and set the house thermostat set at 62 degrees to save on gas. In the bedroom we set the DCH4590ER's thermostat set at 67, sometimes 66 degrees, and we are very comfortable under our down comforter. We put our Delonghi oil filled heater in the living room at night for the cats. It keeps the chill off the room nicely and keeps the house heat from kicking on as often. The trick to using these heaters is to not expect them to warm up an ice cold room instantly. It won't happen. But if you just want to keep your house thermostat set lower to save on your heat bill, and use these as supplemental heat sources, they are great. I will update this when I get my next months bills and see if these electric heaters saved me any money.

I have an elderly family member with a lower-circulatory problem and limited mobility, so we needed something to heat localized areas of the house to keep her comfortable. This space heater remote controlled, adjustable thermostat filled the requirements perfectly. Unlike other reviewers, I have no problem with the fan noise -it's a small unit and has to "blow" the air -not terribly loud, but noticeable, definitely not a deterrent for us. The added safety feature (turns off when tipped over) works and has saved us from a couple of mishaps (inadvertent bumps with the wheelchair). It works well in relatively small spaces, heats in seconds, and has proven to be very reliable so far. I'm considering one for the home office (for use in the cooler mornings/evenings).

Everything about this heater sounds great: 24 hour timer, digital display, remote etc... But there is one drawback I should have noticed that was omitted from the desciption -The Noise. This tiny heater is about as loud as a personal hair dryer.

A shame it's this loud because it cancels out every other redeeming factor. I returned mine for a refund. 2 stars.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi DCH4590ER Safeheat 1500W Digital Ceramic Heater

Loved this heater. We used it in our baby's nursery to keep the heat regulated overnight while the rest of the house was cooler. It worked great and we felt safe using it. Then after less than a year of use it just stopped working. No reason for it to have stopped. Very odd. So, that issue was disappointing.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for DeLonghi DCH4590ER Safeheat 1500W Digital Ceramic Heater

The heater does provide adequate heat (one star for living up to its name), and the tip switch works (one more star for that feature working). Not suitable for quiet environment. Thermostat sucks.

My 10+ year old space heater started to rattle this winter, loud enough to wake me up at night. So I need a replacement. This DeLonghi will not work out. The thermostat control is just inadequate. The unit requires too much manual input. Lowering the thermostat below the desired temp did not turn off the heat. I had to switch modes to turn off the heat, wait for it to cool down, then crank up the thermostat again when I felt a chill. It will turn off by itself when the ambient room temp is above the thermostat setting, but that won't happen until spring.

Smaller nits to pic: I choose this Delonghi because it is the same size and has similar features of my old unit. I expected some wind noise, but it is louder than I am used to. The all-seeing-eye makes a nice night light but not the easiest display to read. The unit BEEPS each time you press the remote. The tone is just about right for a fire alarm, only a little softer. On the topic of fire and space heaters, the tip switch is one of my criteria for choosing this unit, and it works.

After several happy years with my Bunn (10 cup/thermal carafe) coffee maker, it started leaking if multiple pots were brewed in a day. While comparing prices of other 'rapid' brew drip coffeemakers, found the low price of the Cook Essentials Intellichef Coffee Maker too low to resist. After initial set-up, the first pot brewed a full 10-cups in under 5 minutes. In addition to being spoiled by the rapid brew cycle of the Bunn, the temperature and flavor (regardless of brand of ground coffee) was always superior to Mr Coffee, Deloghni or Black & Decker brewers purchased and then given away. This unit seems to be well constructed and offers a sleek design. At 14 1/2" tall, easily accessible for adding water without moving the unit from under wall cabinet above countertop placement.

3rd pot brewed on Day 1. Consistent brew time, (very hot) temperature and (bold) flavor. Pleased to be sure. I typically brew between 2-3 pots per day during the week, and 4 or more per day on weekend lots of coffee drinking visitors. I will update at some point in the futre as to continued performance and satisfaction. Basic fact, at this unit's price, I can buy 5 of these units and just equal the best price I found for replacing my beloved Bunn. Using that price point logic, no complaints if this unit lasts at least nine months before a replacement should be necessary. Since there is a 1 year warranty, hopefully, a non-issue.

Makes good coffee, but misses some essential functions to make it more user friendly and if for whatever reason the power goes out you have guarantee no coffee in the morning because even if the power goes back on it doesn't switch on the coffee maker so you'll have to wait a minimum of 20 minutes. You can't pull out the coffee carafe while it's brewing because it misses a simple stop drip feature and the heating plate under the carafe seems to burn the coffee in the carafe fast.

Consumer Reports, February 10, 2010:

Heating Claims Don't Add Up

Manufacturers of electric space heaters want you to believe that using one of their devices will lower your heating bill. Lowering your home's thermostat(s) and using your main heating system less in tandem with a space heater--called zone heating--will cut your utility bill. (Every degree you lower the thermostat(s) can save you about 2 percent on your heating bill.) But keep in mind that based on current national average prices and adjusting for the energy losses due to burning a fuel, heating with electricity is about two and a half times more expensive than heating with gas, the most common heating fuel in this country.

EdenPure suggests that "you can turn the heat down in your house as low as 50°F, yet the room you are in will be warm and comfortable. When you move to another room, the EdenPure goes with you. Its wheels make relocation a snap." That scenario assumes that you have to heat only a single room to heat at a time or that you own multiple EdenPure space heaters; that once you're in a room you stay put and don't move around the house; and that you're willing to keep the rest of your home at a chilly 50°F. Lowering the thermostat(s) by 3°F would likely result in minimal discomfort for you and your family, but are you willing to keep your home at 50°F?

The 1,483-watt EdenPure Gen 3 Model 1000 uses quartz infrared elements as the heat source. Its design essentially negates the radiant-heating effect, so it operates more like a typical fan-forced convection heater. While a fan can help mix the room air, there is typically some temperature variation, with cooler air near the floor and warmer air near the ceiling.

Humidity Information Seems All Wet

EdenPure says its heaters "protects the humidity level and air quality important to breathing comfort and personal health," and also notes that "Heat from the copper tubing rides the humidity in the room and provides moist, soft heat--ceiling-to-floor, wall-to-wall--without reducing oxygen or humidity."

Simply put, when you heat a room with any space heater and don't also have an additional source of humidity, say a humidifier, the total moisture in the air in that space will stays the same but the relative humidity will go down, not up. That's true for every space heater we've tested, including the EdenPure Gen 3 Model 1000.

...

In the end, remember that electric space heaters in and of themselves can't save you energy and lower your utility bills over the winter. To do that, you need to weatherize your home and lower your thermostat(s) so your heating system has to work less. But if you're going to buy a space heater, you don't have to shell out $400 or more for the EdenPure Gen 3 Model 1000.

This Eden Pure unit certainly does its job of heating a room, but not before your electric bill goes up exponentially. I started using this unit on the first day of my last months' billing cycle, and when I got my bill 30 days later, it jumped 103% over the past month. Simply put, this unit is a guzzler. I immediately unplugged it, and started making preparations to return it to the manufacturer. The advertisement for this product says that they're making improvements to this years' model. Well, they need to work on efficiency--not just the amount of heat that it can generate. Sorry folks, but this unit is a liability. 1/10 P.S. This unit's use has also activated the smoke detectors in my house.

Paul Harvey was a great man. He was a pioneer in radio broadcasting especially in regard to the talk radio genre. He was a decent person. One of the "good guys." In 2005, President George W. Bush awarded Mr. Harvey the Presidential Medal of Freedom. And recently he passed away.

But even great men have flaws. Paul Harvey had been quoted as saying, "I am fiercely loyal to those willing to put their money where my mouth is." And therein, lies a conflict of interest.

Now, I have no way of knowing whether or not Mr. Harvey knowingly endorsed fraudulent products but it is utterly indisputable that he did endorse the main product of Suarez Corporation Industries.

You undoubtedly have never heard of SCI but if you were a regular or even semi-regular listener of Paul Harvey you would have heard him endorse the miraculous EdenPURE heater with its revolutionary "cured copper" heat exchanger.

SCI is a prime supplier to the multi-level marketing community. Some of the companies that make up SCI are:

Biotech Research

International Home Shopping

Lindenwold Fine Jewelers

U.S. Commemorative Gallery

Biotech Medical, LLC

Resource Partners

This list is a smorgasbord of overpriced, yet intensely crappy products. (Oh sure, they sell the Tempur-Pedic line of closed cell foam mattresses which are merely overpriced...you can pick up the exact same thing at Walmart for a fraction of their cost.) This company is a virtual feeding frenzy for multi-level marketing scammers.

But I am only going to focus on their most prominent scam product: The EdenPURE heater.

The EdenPURE heater is the most expensive 115-volt electric space heater money can buy, bar none, and it is marketed with, at best, half-truths and, at worst, blatant lies.

Compounding the problem is literally hundreds (if not thousands) of independent distributors, many of them not authorized resellers.

So lets get into the meat of the issue. Just what does SCI, through its Biotech Research subsidiary, claim that the EdenPURE can do? Here are some select pickings from their FAQ page:

Q. What is the EdenPURE Heater Quartz Infrared Heating System?

A. Our Heating System is a revolutionary zone furnace that safely and efficiently heats entire areas that need additional heat.

Translation: It's a portable electric space heater.

Q. How do the EdenPURE Quartz Infrared Portable Heaters Work?

A. With the advent of micro-electronic technology and the latest in infrared commercial quartz tubes, three solar copper furnaces inside the unit absorb the heat from these tubes much like a sponge absorbs water. The patent pending process of cured natural copper creates an innovative heat exchanger capable of absorbing heat like a solar sponge. It then safely exhales what is coined as "soft" environmentally friendly heat that is able to travel rapidly in relative humidity. The EdenPURE SOFT heat does not burn up the humidity; moreover, it employs the humidity as a vehicle to warm up large spaces quickly and efficiently.

EdenPURE heater has perfectly regulated heat that will not destroy life/energy that other dangerous portable heating devices destroy, but helps to maintain healthy humidity levels indoors.

Other heaters cause occupants to lose energy and force them to breathe dry uncomfortable air. The EdenPURE heater replicates the earth's sun process by electronically exhaling comfortable cost cutting heat without burning up your family's life sustaining oxygen in your indoor living space. The benefits of this natural solar process are revolutionizing the way we will heat our homes and help save large amounts of costly energy.

Translation: Let the BS begin. Taking it item-by-item:

Micro-electronic technology. Translation: It has a digital thermostat.

The latest in infrared commercial quartz tubes. Translation: Three 500-watt halogen light bulbs. Big woop.

Three solar copper furnaces. Translation: Copper pipe cut to length that surround the light bulbs.

Cured natural copper. Translation: Fairy dust & unicorn farts. There is no such thing as "cured" copper.

It then safely exhales. Translation: It has a blower.

-"Soft" environmentally friendly heat. Translation: More fairy dust.

-Does not burn up humidity. Translation: Utter nonsense, heaters don't dehumidify.

-Will not destroy life/energy. Translation: Utter nonsense for the mentally challenged.

-Helps to maintain healthy humidity levels. Translation: Utter nonsense, totally impossible.

-Other heaters cause occupants to lose energy. Translation: We think you are stupid.

-Replicates the earth's sun process. Translation: We think you are really, really stupid.

-Electronically exhales. Translation: We are doubling down on the stupid thing.

-Without burning...oxygen. Translation: Just in case you are an absolute idiot we are tossing this one in out of sheer spite.

-Helps save large amounts of costly energy: Translation: Compared to what? Plutonium?

Now back to the FAQ's...

Q. What makes the EdenPURE Heater "Healthier" than other heaters?

A. For one... the EdenPURE heater does not produce positive ions like other blower (dryer) type heaters.

EdenPURE heater has perfectly regulated heat that will not destroy life/energy that other dangerous portable heating devices destroy, but helps to maintain healthy humidity levels indoors.

Since the early 1950s scientists have suspected that ions play an important role in how the body functions and, consequently, in how we feel. Research has shown that an abundance of negative ions in the air we breathe is highly beneficial.

Conversely, scientists have found that if the air is charged with too few negative ions and too many positives, we become anxious, fatigued and tense. Positive ion poisoning has, in fact, been linked to heart attacks, aggravated asthma, migraine headaches, insomnia, rheumatism, arthritis, hay fever, and most allergies.

Translation: Wow. This is industrial strength BS at its finest. To me, this is holistic, pseudo-science mumbo jumbo that is ridiculous and claiming that other heaters produce positive ions is utter rubbish thrown out there for the slow-witted.

Q. How does the comfort of the EdenPURE Heater System compare to other systems?

A. The EdenPURE Heater System is a state of the art system that provides the most comfortable form of heat. Unlike traditional systems, which may leave a differential of up to 18 degrees from floor to ceiling, the EdenPURE Heater System heated air, using infrared absorption, does not concentrate near the ceiling. Heat stays down and evenly dispersed in the area where you and your family live.

Temperature difference from floor to ceiling is minimal. In addition, the EdenPURE Heater System does not remove humidity from the air. It actually helps maintain humidity levels. The even heating and higher humidity permit lower heat settings with more comfort, less condensation on windows and less static electricity. Furthermore, the EdenPURE Heater System does not use flame, fuel or any form of combustion. Therefore, the heat from the EdenPURE Heater is safe and clean free of any other type of pollution and does not use up the oxygen in the air.

Translation: Okay, well this is more crap served up with a very large spoon...maybe even with a funnel and a hose.

The EdenPURE is, despite claims to the contrary, a forced air electric space heater. There is nothing magical about what it does. Room temperature air comes in one end and higher temperature air comes out the other end. That's it.

Warm air rises due to a property in air called "convection." To minimize the natural process of convection the air in a room may be circulated. Ceiling fans do this quite nicely.

There is no heater made that removes humidity from air. It is a physical impossibility. Period. To remove humidity from air one must lower the air temperature below its dew point. This is called condensation. Think of the "sweat" that occurs on a glass of ice water. If water condenses on the inside of your windows it is because there is a source of excess humidity in the house...someone left the shower running...and the glass is below the dew point. The EdenPURE heater is totally incapable of maintaining ANY level of humidity. Winter air is dry. Go to NOAA and look it up.

Any properly installed heating system will not use up the oxygen of the occupied space. Again, nothing magical here.

Q. Economically, how does the EdenPURE Heater System compare to other systems?

A. The EdenPURE Heater System is the most economical way to heat. In Midwestern Utility field tests for heating seasons, the EdenPURE Heater used an average of 35% less energy than conventional electric furnace/baseboard systems. Comparable results were found during comparisons with fuel based heating systems. Individual results, of course, depend on insulation values, local climate, and other conditions.

Translation: This is a pure lie. The most economical way to heat using electricity is with a heat pump. So, yeah, individual results depend on "other conditions." These (along with that old favorite, "individual results may vary") are what are called "weasel words."

Q. How much area does a EdenPURE Heater System Heat?

A. The EdenPURE GEN3 Model 1000 Heater is a 1483 watt Heating System, is an excellent source of primary heat for up to 400 square feet and a superb source of secondary heat for up to 1000 square feet of well insulated space. The EdenPURE GEN3 Model 500 Heater 900 watt Heating System, is an excellent source of primary heat for up to 200 square feet and a superb source of secondary heat for up to 300 square feet of well insulated space.

Translation: More nonsense. Heat loss for any given room in a house depends on a host of variables: Outside wall area, floor area, ceiling area, window area, door area and local climate conditions to name but a few. Matching a heating appliance without taking heat loss into account is incompetent.

Q. Why does the EdenPURE Heater System cost more than a space heater?

It is a furnace in every respect. A space heater only has the capacity to heat a small space (i.e. under a desk). The EdenPURE Heater System, like a central heating system, will heat an entire area evenly and efficiently. This allows the unit to be a supplemental source of heat. Furthermore, the EdenPURE Heater System is safe. It will not start a fire or burn if you touch it. Because of the reduced energy consumption, and the unit's high level of safety and comfort, EdenPURE Heater System users agree that it is the best value available.

Translation: The EdenPURE is a space heater in every respect. It isn't a furnace. A furnace is designed to heat an entire home. The EdenPURE is not. Properly installed and maintained furnaces are safe, too. Duh. Too many EdenPURE owners are way too embarrassed by what they paid for it to say anything other than what a great value it is.

Q. Why is the EdenPURE Heater System safe?

A. The EdenPURE Heater System has no flame or fumes. Its safe, clean infrared heating elements provide the energy. Extensive testing at CUL (Canada) and UL (United States) has verified the safety of the EdenPURE Heater System. Due to its safe operating temperature, the EdenPURE Heater may be placed next to flammable materials with minimal safety clearance needed.

Translation: All appliances sold in the USA, including space heaters and furnaces, are listed with Underwriters Laboratories. Big Deal.

Q. What kind of Satisfaction Guarantee does it have?

A. We have a 60 day Satisfaction Guarantee. Our Return Policy: You can return or exchange any purchase within 60 days for any reason. NOTE: Items must be returned in the same box & packaging received by you with everything that was included in the original shipment.

Translation: Wow. Sixty days. So, when you discover that it doesn't save you a dime you are totally screwed. Nice policy.

The hundreds of other scam artists that peddle this device go even further with the "cured copper" BS by creating their own little urban legend about its "discovery." Here is the story that they peddle:

"'This advanced heating element was discovered accidentally by a man named John Jones. He had a large old farmhouse that was impossible to heat. Jones had a coal furnace in his basement. Jones placed a sheet of cured copper near the furnace to store it. Cured copper is a type of copper that goes through an extensive heating process to give it special properties. ''After the fire went out in the coal furnace, Jones noticed that the sheet of copper was heating his entire basement evenly, even though the furnace was no longer putting out heat. He also was amazed as to how long the heat stayed in the copper and continued to warm the room. ''Jones was so taken back by this that he started to experiment. He formed a company to develop a heating source out of this cured copper. But Jones had a number of children and he did not want a heating source that would cause a fire or create other hazardous situations like creating carbon monoxide or radiation. He also did not want his children to get burned. To make a long story short, through a great deal of research and development, Jones developed a heating source that utilized commercial infrared quartz tubes. John Jones designed his heating source around the three most important consumer benefits: economy, comfort, and safety. The final development of this infrared quartz heat source cannot be matched by any other heating system in the world."

Translation: Pure and utter BS from start to finish. There is no such thing as "cured copper." It has no "special properties" other than to separate you from several hundred bucks. Take a little stroll over to copper.o r g and try your hardest to find a reference to it. It does not exist except in the minds of simpletons.

The final nail in this smelly little coffin comes from Consumer Reports:

"The unit was the second-lowest-scoring space heater we tested, earning only a 24 on our 100-point scale. According to the folks in our Tech department who tested space heaters, the EdenPure provided lackluster temperature control and was not particularly easy to use, What's more, it was pricey and lacked an overheat-protection feature (key for safety). The GEN3 models do have this important safety feature, according to BioTech Research."

Bottom Line:

If you insist on spending up to $400 for an electric space heater that's your business. But you can get the exact same result for around $30 at your local hardware store. 1500 watts of heat is 1500 watts of heat regardless of how it's packaged and how much it costs.

And don't ever buy anything that multi-level (or network) marketers are selling, especially their "system."

Honest reviews on Eden Pure Gen 4 Infrared Heater

I just loved the very detailed review that was funny. While there are many aspects of his commentary that may be accurate you cannot assume everything is correct. I will offer this personal experience with the GEN heaters. I own two, 1000 Gen 3 units.

My evaluation and use of this was done after spending almost $2000.00 the past winter in OIL!

On a cold month, I used very little or no oil and used the two GEN heaters almost exclusively. Yes, the electric bill shot up and I estimated it cost somewhere around $150 to $200 for the month. However, compared to a $400 to $600 oil bill, kind of a no brainer.

FYI the two heaters were used in a 3 bedroom brick ranch home. One in the living room the other in a bedroom with the heater facing the hallway.

Perhaps the reviewer is correct in pointing out the fairy dust and unicorn farts (that review is a hoot for sure) regarding certain of the hype and claims made by the sellers. Perhaps one might find other space heaters for less money with nearly identical output. I personally think space heaters such as these are worth while in certain situations.

The down side is I think they should run quieter. The air flow makes a high pitched whistle when operating which I find very annoying.

Expect an increase in electric cost, no question about it, but compare to your other heating cost. Then make the decision accordingly.

EdenPure products are a total rip off. As one reviewer said, in order to save energy, one has to turn off the home heating system and just use the space heater. That is not explained very well in their marekting materials.

The biggest complaint I have is they pry on the older generation. My dad is 83 and have some cogntive problems and every time they send him some information, he orders something. I am sure by now, he must owe a part of EdenPure just by buying 3 heaters, one air purifier and a humidifier. He has spent thousands of dollars with them and most of the heaters sit on his basement shelf or worst off he thinks he is saving on electricity. He gave me one for a gift several years ago, and my electric bill went up so high, that I started reading information on their website. OMG!

I really don't know what to do, but I can tell you, once you buy one of these products, you are on their mailing lists FOREVER.

EdenPure are very bad people, unethical to sell something that really doesn't work well and definitely the prices are outrageous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was a little concerned about buying a dozen filters at over $100 without trying one first. I've been very pleasantly surprised. They are every bit as good as, if not better than, the Filtrete "Micro Allergen" filters that I normally use (which cost about 50% more.) These filters are structural sound, in fact, I think they are more sturdy than the Filtrete filters. That is the characteristic that I was most nervous about as I've previously had discount filters (from other manufactures) buckle and collapse inside my ducts. The filtering media itself also appears to be high quality. I've had them installed for several weeks now and everything appears to be working well. I will definitely buy Nordic Pure filters again.

We bought this to heat up specific areas of our drafty apartment. Mostly, we've been using it in our living room, which is miserably cold in the winter. The room is about 10x14, and this little heater maxes out to warm it comfortably. I used it one day to jumpstart the temperature in my son's much smaller room and it was effective in minutes. It really is for smaller rooms.

Pros:

-Does warm quiet well

-Stay cool housing

-Automatically turns off if tipped over

-Two fan speeds for heat, and one for fan alone (I can't tell any difference between low and high, though)

Cons:

-It's quite loud. If you're watching a movie, or trying to talk on the phone, it's a bit intrusive

-The cord gets warm. That seems rather worrying, except that we never leave it on or plugged in unmonitored. I don't feel like it is suddenly going to explode, I just wouldn't leave any electric heater on or plugged in with our old-house wiring (we even unplug our toaster when we're not using it)

-It's not very efficient if the heat is not turned all the way up comes off and on every five minutes or so, which, combined with the noise level, is a little annoying

-Also the grate on the front (pretty small) does heat up, so it'll have to be out of reach if you have crawlers or pets.

All this to say, we're keeping it. It's already here, the price was right and it makes our frozen tundra of a living room quite cozy. I'm just going to pretend the noise is the sound of crashing waves on a seashore in the tropics.

We bought a similar unit on Amazon last year and love it. Easy to mount on the propane bottle and light

This unit looked the same and the price was similar so I thought it was the same. It wasnt. It's hard to mount on the can. I had to bend the brackets to make them fit. The attachment to the propane valve is not the easy external hand twist mount found in most bbqs. It takes a wrench and the treading is poor so it takes some work to get it started.

Once installed the self strarters don't light the burners correctly. You need a match. Carefully not to get too close or you will get burned.

My suggestion. Look around for another unit with rave reciews. I'm not happy at all. 100 products purchased on amazon. First bad review

As a heater, these are very good. Use them outdoors or in your garage or workshop with the door wide open. They are inferred heaters. They work by using a flame to heat a metal grate into the inferred range, which heats anything in it's path. That is a lot of heat in a small space. I have found that with regular usage, these heaters need to be replaced each winter.

There are certain conditions where these heaters seem to be the only type of heater which will work. They don't throw any flames out, and rarely throw a sparks out. They don't use any electricity. You can use these heaters at sea level or in the mountains (or the arctic). And they produce a lot of heat.

However, if used inside, they will suck all of the oxygen out of the air, which is why I gave them 4 stars.

(I don't need to hear that someone died because of my recommendation.)

Plus the heater heads will get very hot.

Any heater designed with these same principles by anyone will have the same benefits and drawbacks.

I recommend them, provided that you use caution when using them.

I purchased the Aquios unit from Amazon right before Christmas and had it professionally installed a little over a week ago. For anyone concerned about the installation costs, I hired a local plumber and he was able to install the unit for $150 including parts, and it took him less than an hour. I'm sure someone with good plumbing skills and basic tools could easily install the softener themselves; I simply know my limitations and elected to have it installed properly.

I couldn't be happier with the results. My wife and I started noticing a difference in our water quality immediately, and it keeps getting better every day. True, this unit may not match the classic definition of a water softener since it does not use salt, but if crystal-clear water, no chemical taste, elimination of scale buildup and essentially maintenance-free operation is what you are looking for in a whole-house conditioning system, then the heck with "classic" definitions.

We've both noticed a better "feel" from our water in the shower, and the amount of soap and shampoo we use in order to feel clean has been drastically reduced. The first time I used my espresso machine with our "new" water, it was like night and day. The coffee carafe did not show any signs of lime or scale buildup, whereas previously I would have to wash the container out with soap and hot water after each use. Our water was so hard, we had to scrub the toilet bowls daily to keep them clean, and now all of those water stains and "gunk" have simply disappeared. The shower mirror stays crystal clear with no signs of haze, and our water tastes great right from the tap.

It puzzles me how someone could write a review for a product they've never used. So, even though this unit does not use salt, who cares??? If its results you're looking for, I would recommend you take a close look at the Aquios system as a viable alternative to salt-based conditioners.

We've had this installed for $140 by our plumber.Someone else gave us a price of $395 for the same installation,so be careful and call around for prices. We feel it works great. We can now drink water from the faucet with no after taste and you can install it just about anywhere. We had ours installed in the garage where our pipes run thru. We've been using it since September 2012,and still working fine.Filters with (EOC),which is what we got and are only $10 more, are suppose to last a family of four for six months,So,I expect to get 8 to 10 months use for just my wife and myself. Our plumber said,he doesn't know why more people don't use this type of softener/filter instead of spending thousand's for something that'll do the same thing this will.It DOES NOT affect our water pressure at all. There was absolutely no difference, and the filter's are easy to replace.Just unsrew the top, pull the old filter out and slide the new one in,but, don't forget to soak the filter for 15 minute's before putting the filter in.We live in Tucson,AZ,and our water is very hard. This system did the trick. It's also saving our appliance's,water heater, faucet's,dish washer, toilet's,etc from the calcium build-up we got before. We actually had to take our water heater out and flush all the calcium chunks out in the yard.We don't hear those chunks banging against the side of the water heater anymore from the pressure inside.I recommend this water softener. If it works in Arizona, where the water is very hard,it should work most anywhere, and the cost of it is very reasonable for what it does, plus the extra life it is giving our appliance's and our skin and hair and having water you drink.I'm pretty picky guy,so,you can trust this review and I DO NOT work for Aqious.

Also,it arrived ahead of the actual delivery date stated.

Best Deals for Aquios Full House Water Softener and Filter System

I had this installed last week in a home we just bought. We didn't notice a change right away in the water quality. We have horrible water where we live (an ag city).

I had it tested when we first moved in and and it was over 185 ppm. It was like soap when washing the car. It literally came out like soap and left bubbles and film on the car. We wouldn't touch the stuff for drinking. Anyways, the stainless steel sink in the kitchen was covered in hard water film along with the fixtures in the bathrooms. We are on a full galvanized pipe install under the house along with the guest house / garage. There was some copper pipes but they were toast and I removed them, went full steel and grounded the pipes (house been around since the 50's and the steel was still goodkind of makes me wonder why people recommend copper over steel when the copper was destroyed.. I'm not sure about plastic but the pipes under the house look like new, and came apart like new (60+ years old)just were it was joined with copper is where I found issues. I think it's just plumbers would rather save money on installing plastic. (Just my opinion after seeing these galvanized pipes myself)

Installed this on the main and replaced the old shutoff with a lever. A week later the sinks are clean and the water is much better (not perfectI wouldn't drink it but much better). It has a bypass that's easy to use for the nights when the sprinklers come on. Bypass every other night until I can fix the sprinklers that keep getting kicked. We are happy with the purchase.

I put a reverse osmosis system on the kitchen sink for drinking water. We should have a real water softener but I just wanted to try this first. Think we saved ourselves $500. You don't really need the softener. This thing is good enough to keep the film and soapy water that comes from the city from sticking to everything. The replace filter costs $60 but I talked with someone who said he goes 2 years without replacing his whole house filter. Guess we'll have to see.

Honest reviews on Aquios Full House Water Softener and Filter System

I researched long and hard for a water softener as I have recently bought a new home, with new washer dryer and tankless water heater. In my area it is known for some hard water and with that being said we all know what hard water does to your appliances let alone fixtures. Wanted to start with the mindset of living here for the rest of my life.

This unit has improved the taste of the water and has stopped hard water significantly in my home. It has been 2 months and we have not had to wiped down our showers for build up, only for regular cleaning. Sinks are clean and the tank less water heater keeps up with high demand on a lower temperature setting. All in all I believe this was a great investment for my needs.

For reference 3600 sqft home with 3 adults and 2 children.

Below are my findings after doing a lot of initial research before buying the Aquios system and hope to help out others.

There are 3 systems that are widely implemented:

1) Most used is salt based water softners

2) Water Filtrations systems that as a byproduct soften the water

3) Newest technology is the Magnetic

So far after reading it all, salt based are best used when there is serious, serious hardwater. Basically if you see rings in your toilet, and you feel so dry after a shower. Cons of salt based systems are that your water feels a little soapy and if you use your tap water to cook and make coffee. This of course is because there is added salt in your diet due to the softener. Not recommended for those with sodium health problems. Costs for the salt based softeners start as low as $80 up to $500. Usually has to be maintained every 1 to 2 months. Costing $10-$20 ea time.

Water Filtration systems are mid level to mid-high cases of hard water. They are a filtration system that will also help with softening up the water. With this product you get a two in one system and if you think about it will also prolong your appliances a bit longer as it will also take out further contaminates. Initial costs for a whole home water filtration & softener system starts from $300-$1000. Filter lasts from 3-6months. Filters can be $30 to $70 ea.

Magnetic wiring around your copper fittings is one of the newer technologies to be implemented for home use. From reviews and what I have read, these do work but not for cases where hard water is not an big problem and usually installed when it was not needed in the first place. How they work is to electrifying wires to create magnetic fields so the chemical reaction how hard water is formed is deactivated. These systems are usually maintenance free. Systems start at $150 to $800.

This does work, although it doesn't actually remove the hardness. This causes a bit of residue to be left over time in hot water applications, like the dish washer or boiling water.

I was also surprised to see that the stock filter, while stating it removes particles larger than 5microns, does not actually reduce the parts per million (PPM) particles in my well water.

All in all though, I do like it better than the electric salt water softener, and it freed up a lot of space in the utility closet.

UPDATE: I have noticed that the residue left from heating or boiling water is much easier to remove than without a softener. I replaced the electric + salt softener because it had failed; when it was not operating, lime and calcium build-up required CLR or Lime-a-way to remove it, whereas now it comes off with a washcloth or scrub brush.

I bought this heater at Costco for $43 last week. It is quiet, well put together, and really warms the room. My only complaint is that the digital thermostat frequently displays an inaccurate temperature -like 74 when it's actually 69 degrees. I know because I put a second thermostat next to the unit just to see. While this is annoying (especially when you have to get out of bed into a cold room rather than a nice and warm room), I'm pretty happy overall, and have just learned to set the target temperature higher (like 76 degrees) to compensate.

We bought 2 of these ceramic heaters; 1 is perfect and works well, the other 1 has made noise since we got it (although it does heat well) and when we called Bionaire to try to get it repaired or replaced, we were told we couldn't do so. We don't think we'd buy these heaters again for that reason, although they do work pretty well. We don't feel the customer service and followup is good on these products.

I've been using small heaters like this for 15 years, and this one is by far the best. I see that one guy on here got a defective unit, and that's a bummer. He should have returned it and gotten a new one, because this thing is fantastic. It's quieter than any other heater I've owned, and it works perfectly all the time. I've been using this heater for a year now, and have had no problems whatsoever.

The remote control is what makes this an instant favorite for me. Usually when I wake up in the morning I'm really cold and don't want to get out of bed. No problem... I just reach for the remote control and turn the heater on high. Within minutes it's warm, and I'm ready to roll out of bed.

If you're looking for a small heater for a single room (or studio apt), then (in my opinion) this is by far the best choice.

Honest reviews on Bionaire BCH3620-U Tower Ceramic Heater with Digital Control

This heater is INCREDIBLY LOUD, even if you set it to the lowest setting, it makes no difference. I bought one these heaters for my parents and they did not even want it because of the superfluous noise and it's poor quality. It takes hours to warm up an enclosed bedroom and it dispenses heat unevenly. You're better off with a basic heater or no heater at all.

This heater ( or very similar from Patton) seems to have been around for a very long time. My father who is 96 actually did use this heater in the milk-house. Besides the nostalgia factor this heater does a good job for what it is designed to do, which is to put out safe heat. Not the prettiest, or quietest, probably not for your living room, but great for a smaller space, basement or garage. Here in Minneapolis where it is -2 degrees outside as I am writing this review, this little heater will take the edge off.

What prompted me to write this review was my purchase of a duraflame electric heater of similar wattage to the old milkhouse holmes branded unit a friend gave to me. Even though the two units claim similar heat output. The milkhouse heater really kicks out the heat compared with the duraflame $75 model. The duraflame is much more aesthetically appealing but cannot match the raw heat output of this unit. This unit will put out the most heat for your dollar cost. I have also purchased the plastic holmes units similar to this model and they are still not the same heat output. Just wanted to clarify for amazon customers that if you want heat buy this unit if you want fancy or pretty buy others.

This is my 4th milkhouse heater in 12 years. I use my heater daily almost 9 months out of the year. I love them for heating up a small room quickly and safely. The only complaint on this new version is that there is no OFF button. It is always on with the button lit up. Unplugging and plugging it in is a pain. But it saves on the energy bill and so I do it.

Honest reviews on Patton PUH680-U Milk-House 1000/1500 Watt Utility Heater

I've had this heater for two years now. It warms up the room well as you would expect, but is quite noisy when it is on.

However, the biggest problem I have with it is its poorly built construction. The heating and fan mechanism is riveted onto the frame instead of screwed on. That may be good and well, but if it gets knocked over a few times, the rivets become loose. There's no way to fix them! Thus, the heating mechanism is dangling inside the case with no easy solution other than returning it for replacement in warranty. If it had been screwed in, it would simply be a matter of tightening or replacing the screws.

This is especially disappointing because this is supposed to be a utility fan. One expects that a utility fan could be a little more durable than other types of fans. But when the rivets break after its knocked over, it becomes dangerous.

This is the best small electric heater I have found--and I have used a lot of electric floor heaters. It is easy to use-uncomplicated. It turns off if you tip it over so it is safe. It doesn't overheat and turn itself off like many others. It seems to have a feature that causes it just to not overheat. I have left it on all night with no problems.
