ChiliPad Bed Temperature Control Mattress Cover Review

I have owned my Chilipad for 4 years, and can honestly say I cannot sleep without it. Night sweats and hot flashes are nearly impossible, but with this I sleep like a teenager. There are a few things I would change if I were the designer, however. The pad itself consists of a cotton pad in which there are silicone tubes thru which the water circulates (you really can't feel them when you are lying on it, however). This pad slips into a zippered cover that is just like a regular pocketed mattress pad. However, there is no way to adhere the inner pad to the outer pad. Now this may not be a problem for most people, but I have to sleep with the head of the bed elevated, and I have to unzip the outer pad and reposition/smooth out the inner pad about every 3-4 days. They do not recommend using sharp things on the pad, so no pins, no sewing on velcro, etc.

The fan can be noisy, so if you need absolute quiet to sleep, this may not be the solution for you. But I found that soft music drowns it out completely.

You will need to top off the water about once a week or so, but it's really easy to do. You just need to have it somewhere accessible.

I also recommend setting it on a hard surface it seems to work better I use a cookie sheet under my bed just in case it develops a leak or I get sloppy when topping it off.

Customer service at Chili Technology is top notch they will bend over backwards and stand on their heads to make sure you are satisfied. My unit developed a leak, I called them, and had a new unit within 3 days, and they paid for the return shipping on the leaky unit as well.

There is a rumor that they are developing one for chairs, and I can't wait. Wish there was one for a desk chair too.

Although I am single, imagine being able to have your side of the bed cool and your partner's side warm no more arguments about room temperature, and you will save a lot on heating and AC.

Overall, wonderful product, highly recommend it, I love it.

This product can cool or heat your bed. For heating, this device works well, so I will not talk about that feature any further. For cooling, this device may not work as well as you would like it to. Let me explain:

In the summertime, if your bedroom is uncomfortably hot, this device will probably help cool your bedding, but not to such a degree where you can turn off your air conditioning.

Let's say it's 30c and you'd like it to be 20c under the covers. This modestly powered device won't be able to close such a gap in temperature, as it's working against the ambient temperature of your room as well as your own body heat. It may be able to lower the temperature of the water 7c, but it could take several *hours* before a noticeable cooling effect can be felt. Remember, it not only has to cool the water flowing thru the tubes, but also the surrounding bedding, and eventually your body.

In short, this device will not replace your air conditioning if your room is too hot.

But even if the device could dramatically cool your bedding, this wouldn't be practical. Such a difference in temperature would create a large amount of condensation. In fact, condensation is already a problem when lowering the temperature by ~7c. On the hottest nights, I'll have damp bedding in the morning.

My conclusion, after using this product for an entire summer, is that the Chilipad works best in a room that is slightly too hot, but not extremely hot. You may have to use the AC to reach this ideal temperature, which may lead you to feel that this device is pointless. It probably is pointless for some people in some environments, but clearly, some find it greatly beneficial to their quality of sleep.

Another problem to consider is the noise of the device when operating at its maximum power. It produces white noise that is a bit louder than a room fan, as well as some gurgling water noises. If you are sensitive to noise, you'll definitely want to wear earplugs, but even then, you'll still hear it.

I use the Chilipad during the winter months to keep my bed toasty warm. In the autumn and spring the device works well to keep my bed at a reasonable temperature. But during the hot summer months when just about everyone sleeps with the AC on, this device simply cannot beat the heat on its own.

UPDATE Sept 2013:

Unfortunately, I constantly found myself going to bed too hot, and waking up too cold. I could never find a comfortable temperature setting with the Chilipad and the whole ordeal became detrimental to my sleep. As such, I didn't use it for the entire summer for 2013.

I've grown to realize that the product is made for a room that already has a comfortable ambient temperature. The unit simply regulates the temperature of the bottom bedding, preventing things like sweating into the mattress at night. But as I said before, if your room is too hot to begin with, the Chilipad isn't going to help much.

I still plan to use the Chilipad all winter long like last year. It's really quite suited for that.

Just got one of these, and after two nights I think it is great. I have a latex foam mattress, and my only complaint has been that it is hot. The Chilipad fixed that issue. Good customer support too needed for someone who does a poor job of reading the manual.

Edited August 6, 2012 almost 8 months after purchase

Still loving it. Use it every night.

I can't believe the difference this has made for sleeping, while it was a bit expensive, it was worth every penny!

My body temperature usually runs pretty high, especially after a few hours of sleeping. When i first tested the Chilipad, i was impressed that it could be set all the way down to 46F and like a dummy, i tried sleeping with it at that setting. At first it doesn't seem that cold, but within 10 minutes i realized my body was cooling down quick and i incrementally raised the temperature till i was back to about 75F in which the Chilipad helped to regulate my temperature at a comfortable level, heating or cooling to maintain that range throughout the evening. It may take some getting used to, to find a balanced sleeping temperature. This device is well made and works as designed.

We did a LOT of research to find a unit for our web and mobile development studio (eight bit studios) :) The Great Northern Popcorn makers stood out and this unit ended up being the perfect pick. The size is perfect for our team of 10-12 that our in the office. It's big enough to make things feel official and use official popcorn scoop shovels, but not so big that it's taking up a whole room. It took two of us all but 10 minutes to assemble. The separate switches for the light heater, kettle arm rotator, and kettle heating element are great. It's completely silent --and fairly quiet even when popcorn is popping out of the kettle. We have found it easy to clean. The stand with the storage door is tall enough to fit a standing Flavacol carton and deep enough to also include a gallon of coconut oil. This unit is ALL GLASS, including the doors! This was a surprise because we were looking at a more expensive unit from GNP that had etched glass and a smaller form factor, but was advertised as all glass including the doors --apparently in other units the doors will be a plexiglass and could warp from the heat? Overall we are loving it. We're still trying to get just the right combination of preheating the kettle, vs the oil and kettle or combining it all at once so that the popcorn isn't too chewy. So far we're getting really close by preheating the kettle for 3 min, then adding the oil with flavacol mixed in until it starts to steam, and then adding in the kernels. A quick tip for you rookies. Get the popcorn/peanut salt!!! The corn has a bit of salt with the flavacol, but the movie theater quality gets in there with that fine salt! So in less words, this popcorn popper will not disappoint!! If you want more reviews, check out the equivalent popper in red.

Black "Lincoln" 8 Ounce Antique Popcorn Machine and Cart was recieved damaged...decided to just live with it because it's too hard to try and repack for return. The unit is not as big as i would have expected and not as well crafted as i would have like...however, it does make really great popcorn!! I put it in our media room and it really makes it smell like a real theater when we are watchinmg movies and sporting events!

This popcorn popper is a great addition to my friends movie theater room. I think this is the best house warming gift we could have gotten.

Honest reviews on Great Northern Popcorn 6005 Lincoln Antique Popcorn Cart

This popper makes great popcorn. My biggest disappointment is that both of the air-less, solid rubber tires have split twice now, within the 4 years of owning this popper. It's never been outside, nor does it set in the sun. Having trouble getting contact information to replace the tires/wheels again since I was told the warranty was 5 years. Anyone have any suggestions, please?????????????

I bought this for my husband's birthday this year, and he is in love with this machine!!! I've been very happy with it since getting it. It looks nice and pops great popcorn!! I went ahead and bought the Great Northern Popcorn packets that are pre-measured. It works great and I don't have to measure anything or worry about having popcorn salt or the right oil, etc... I would buy this machine again if I had a need for another one!! :-)

I bought one of these heaters cheap from a local supermarket and was not expecting much for the price, but I was pleasantly surprised when I got it home and found that it was very quiet, in fact it's the quietest of any portable heater I own, and I have about 7 different types, including ceramic heater and standard fan driven ones like this one.

This heater has a nice design to it that allows it to stand upright or lie flat. The handle serves as a stand to allow air flow from the top and bottom intakes while in the lying flat mode. The fan is not the standard blade type, but it uses a squirrel cage design that makes it much quieter and even stronger than the standard fan blade heaters.

What also surprised me about this heater is that it cranks out more heat on LOW than any other heater I have on HIGH. Even on low if you keep your hand right a few inches from the grille, it will almost get too hot to keep your hand there for long, and that's on low. But it actually seems to draw less than other heaters on high. I've not hooked it up to an AMP meter or anything to really get accurate reading, but judging from the fact that other heater dim the lights more on high than this one does on low, I would say that it is drawing the rated 750 watts but somehow putting out a lot more heat. Maybe it's the design, the squirrel cage type fan over standard blades or something else. I'm not really sure, but all I know is that this thing can heat up a good size room in about 10-15 minutes and almost make you start to sweat where as other heaters have to be kept on high for 30 minutes or hours to even try to do the same job.

I went back to the store and I bought 4 more of these heaters I liked it so much. It's the best portable heater I've found yet and as mentioned, I've tried numerous different types. My only issue with it is that the thermostat on certain ones does tend to stay on a long time which can make the room get too hot. They all work, but some will stay on for 30 minutes or more before shutting off...then it won't come back on until the room has gotten quite cold. It's not a digital thermostat but seems to be a more basic type that activates when the metal alloy drops to a certain temperature, warps and closes the circuit turning the heater back on, so of course it's not going to be as accurate or consistent.

But again I've had other heaters with different and supposedly better thermostats do the same thing. So in this price range it's still the best one that I have found, especially considering that I got all of mine for under $9 each at my local store on sale, so I surely can't complain. I'm actually hoping that they get another supply in this year as I want to pick up a couple more as backup, but I used them every day for hours last winter and It was might cold here in the northeast last year and none of them failed at all. I have one on right now as I write this review and it's making me very warm so I'm about to turn it off.

Ive been using this heater 3 winters now, I keep it on low power, with the auto thermastat, I only shut it off when I leave the house, (just as a precaution) I too, purchased this in a supermarket for 10.00, wasnt expecting too much either , its my favorite. tip: to help keep it running smoothly, when you vacumn, vacumn the vent as you would your ac vent in the summer regularly. Im getting another!

I purchased this heater six months ago for my bathroom that does not have a heater. What can I say-its a cabin house in the mtns. It's a great little heater that warms the room asap I bought it at DIY for a couple of dollars less.

I am considering buying another for the mudroom. For short term warming (not on all day) I highly recommend it.

The heater sounded good enough online. It's hard to find a squirrel cage fan forced heater these days. The advantage is that they are very quiet.

I sent this back the next day first of all the quality was cheap. Secondly, I never even got to test it since it was crushed and in multiple pieces.

The outer shipping box was in perfect condition but the product box inside was crushed as well as the heater. It all leads me to believe that the product was damaged before it was packed for shipping.

Amazon was great about the return and issued a prompt refund.

Review of Proctor-Silex 34101 Fifth Burner

Proctor-Silex 34101 Fifth Burner

We got this to replace a burner bought off the shelf. It died within the first week. I have been much happier with the results for this burner as a replacement for our dead stove. In fact, it heats up faster that our stove used to. Produces good heat quickly and has worked well in almost all situations.

The only issue I have is with what seems to be an overtemp safety because it will cycle itself on and off. A pot will get hot quickly but it also seems to senses that the pot is still there and hot, and decides to take a rest or turner off the burner for 15-30 sec while things in your pot stop boiling. It seems to come back quickly to reheat again, but cooking with an even hear is lost as the burner cycles on/off.

Cons:

-As was mentioned from the other reviews, this burner annoyingly cycles off and on. I have to unplug and re-plug to turn it on again. You cannot disable it. For me, this is the biggest deal breaker for this product.

-There is nothing in the manual to show the features and specs except safety precautions.

-You cannot use a large pan on it.

-Nothing to stabilize the pan but the actual heating coil.

-You have to use heavy pans with good heat conductor at the bottom (like the copper bottoms pans). If you use the aluminum teflon type, it will not sufficiently heat to fry anything.

Pros:

-Like the portability, size and weight.

-Very affordable.

I saw this on HGTV in some trendy house renovation shows. And, I did not know what it was but it looked really cool. And, when I saw it on later, I realized that this is an ancient kind of product we all are familiar with.

My excuse to buy this was that my house is under the hammer and we decided to chuck away the old gas stove. And, that means we can only eat frozen meals heated up in the microwave or this coil burner.*w*

Unlike some other reviewers expressed, I have only used this for boiling pastas, or stir-fried dishes. And, it was just amazing that how this $15 burner can cook as well and fast as my GE electric stove in my other condo. I have cooked some Chicken Soup for 4 hours one day, which turned out great as well, so I don't agree with other people's discontent myself.

I just wish I could put 4 of these coil burners when the house is complete instead of purchasing a couple of thousand halogen cook top. At least, a young couple on HGTV did it in their compact loft condo this way. with the coil covers, very clever! I think it looks good enough to keep it on the counter top.

The only flaw is that the spill plate under the heat coil leaves the burn marks from cooking if you don't wipe them immediately. But, then again, I could buy another without thinking! A very good value.

Honest reviews on Proctor-Silex 34101 Fifth Burner

This is an excellent piece of cooking equipment! I love it!!

I purchased this for my travel to India... I rented a room at a place in India and wanted to be able to prepare quick meals in the comfort of my room, including tea... well this electric burner heats up quickly and safely ... just like my stove at home. It is small enough to easily store away.

Now that I am back in the US form India travel I sometimes use it when other stove elements at home are in use.. so the burner helps things move along faster and the best part is that it works so wonderfully and just like a stove element... Its a must have tool... especially for single folks :-) .. or if you move around a lot on travels away from home..

I shopped at SEVEN stores for a 5th burner type appliance. All I could find were warmers or products that looked as if they would not even boil water. All were priced much higher than this Proctor-Silex Fifth Burner.

This heats fast and the coils actually turn red like a regular electric stove. We got this for use while remodeling our kitchen and so I have used it daily for almost 2 months. I am very pleased with its performance and would recommend it as an efficent, no nonsense little appliance.

Review of Dyson AM05 Hot + Cool Fan Heater

Dyson AM05 Hot + Cool Fan Heater
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program

I have been intrigued with the Dyson Hot + Cool Fan Heater for a few years. I remember checking one out at a big box housewares store and was just thinking how interesting the design was but equally amazed at how high the price was. The design was certainlly clever and modern but it was not clear to me whether the performance could equal the expecatation and cost. I finally have a Dyson Hot + Cool thanks to the Amazon Vine program and I've been putting it through some serious testing and usage. My video review will cover most of my thoughts but I"ll highlight some of my thoughts here. After using it for nearly a year in both cold and hot conditions I am able to say it is NOT very effective as a fan and marginally more effective as a heater.

Let me be clear about one thing, the device name is totally misleading. It is called "Hot + Cool Fan Heater". It is NOT a cooler. It does not cool air whatsoever. An air conditioner cools air. This is not an air conditioner... it is a fan and it is not very effective as a fan because the air flow is simply too weak to be effective. Additionally it is very loud during operation.

I do like the look of this heater/fan. It's very modern and futuristic. Its slim design will enable it to be put in some otherwise tight spaces and will also look quite modern and elicit many comments, I'm sure.

The actual performance is poor. As a heater, it works pretty well, but only in a smaller square foot area. Since the head can oscillate back and forth, it sill distribute a warm flow of air fairly effectively in smaller rooms. Normally the thermostat in my house is set to 62 degrees during the overnight. I set the Dyson Hot + Cool downstairs in the living room. The entire downstairs area is approx. 900 sq feet but but has a relatively open floor plan so about 3/4 of that square footage could essentially be considered one room. The Dyson managed to keep the temperature right aroun 68 degrees all night long. The Dyson temperature had been set to 70 and as far as I know, it never attained 70 degrees. I'm pretty sure it ran continously all night long. I thought that being able to maintain a 68 degree temperature in that size space was pretty good though since it's still winter where I live and if the heater had not been on, it would have dropped to 62 degrees inside. If a smaller room were being used, it would heat the room to a higher temperature.

As a "cooling" fan, I was not impressed. There is simply not enough velocity or volume of air to be very effective as a fan. Not only that, but the Dyson is loud especially when the fan is operating at its highest setting. At the low setting it's not that loud, but then it's much less effective too. So to get a significant fan effect, you have to turn the speed up to a level much higher than "low."

I do like that the fan oscillates and also tilts. Howver, in my use of the fan, there was a significant amount of wobble in the head of the unit when it was tilted and oscillating. In fact at one point the unit almost vibrated or wobbled itself off the edge of the counter it was sitting on while I was out of the room. I could not believe my eyes. When the head is straight up with no forward or backward inclination, it's fine.

The remote is useful and magnetically attaches itself to the top of the head when not in use. But in my video you will notice at one point the remote slides off the top when I tilt the unit so the magnet is not as strong as it should be to hold the remote securely.

If you are a design forward kind of person or just admire the "genius" of Dyson, this fan will probably appeal to you. It's more flash than function in my opinion. If you're thinking that for the price it's got to be one incredibly effective fan and heater, you'd be mistaken. For the price, it's one awesome looking piece of equipment, but performance is not so hot (no pun intended.)

For my money, I"d rather buy a seperate floor standing fan, or box fan, that can really push some air and at significantly less cost. The Dyson can't even compare.

As a heater, it's pretty cool (sorry again, no pun intended) but again, expensive. I have a small, square, ceramic heater that is very quiet and effective. I think it cost around $40-50.

One worry I have and that I can't address until I've used this for a much longer time, is how much dust will collect in the air intake holes on the lower section of the unit. I've had other devices with similar looking holes and over time you get this very fine and hard to remove collection of dust buildup that would also reduce air flow. Internally dust might build up somewhere too. I have no idea how that would affect the already mediocre performance... or how to clean it. And the air output venturi would also collect dust over time and have to be cleaned.

I guess the Dyson and me aren't a good fit. It's cool looking as heck but I just don't think it lives up to my expectations of performance for something that costs this much. I can see this fitting in to certain decors really well though. And its slim design does enable it to fit in what would otherwise be tight spaces for other more conventional fans/heaters.

UPDATE: 6/3/2013 Having used this over the winter and now during some really hot weather, I'm reducing my rating to 2-stars. For the price, this just doesn't provide a commensurate level of performance. I would not recommend unless you just want to make a fashion statement but don't really care so much about effective cooling or rock-solid mechanical performance.

There are so many reasons why I love the Dyson Hot + Cool Fan Heater:

1. I am saving $300 per month on heating because the coldest member of the household is now warm enough and not using the whole house forced air heater to cook everyone.

2. It warms up a 15' x 15' bedroom fast about 90 seconds fast.

3. The cats and dogs and children never get near any moving parts that might injure them there are no moving parts.

4. There is no risk to anyone touching the heater it does not get hot to the touch.

5. It is quiet on low it is silent on high it is barely audible.

6. It is working all day and all night everyday for 8 months and has not crapped out.

7. It looks terrific. I redecorated and the style and beauty of the device adds to the modern design.

8. The remote control works perfectly.

9. It is enduring some rough handling amongst family members and guests and pets without busting.

10. It will get the room as warm as anyone wants to get the room. If someone doesn't feel well and wants it at 90F then it will deliver.

11. The animals are not afraid of it.

This is the best three hundred bucks I spent in the past six months. I am overjoyed that I took a chance and purchased this awesome heater despite the negative reviews. We are enjoying this heater, benefiting from this heater and I still love to marvel at its elegant engineering innovative design. So happy. Seriously pleased.

12. It's July and I have to add this fan cools. I don't understand how it blows cool air on a hot day but it does. There is no cooling component but the air from the Dyson is at least 10 degrees (F) than the rest of the room. Very refreshing.

8 months of daily use and we LOVE the dyson. And it looks great. I give it a wipe every so often because the air inputs attract dust. That's it for maintenance. I would love more well engineered products. It saved our household a lot of money during the winter. I will take a look at the heating bills one day and share how much. I really don't like many products, and I don't review most what I purchase. I haven't found a flaw yet.

Best Deals for Dyson AM05 Hot + Cool Fan Heater

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'll give it to Dyson... They've taken a very boring household appliance and made it sexy and cool. The design of the AM05 is super slick, elegant and very futuristic. But at $400, a cool design is not enough; to justify the price point it needs to drastically outperform standard fans and space heat by orders of magnitude. Sadly, it doesn't even come close. The packaging is quite minimal and the only assembly required is to pop the fan in the base which takes a few seconds.

On the design... For such a sexy form factor, I do not know why on earth they would have a black electrical cord for the white/silver fan... I would be willing to bet that everyone that chooses the white/silver fan would prefer a white or grey electrical cord.

On the performance... The "cool mode" simply blows air and doesn't actually cool. The product description and product packaging are incredibly vague (I suspect intentionally) about what the cooling function actually is. After using it for a while, I didn't notice it actually cooling the air at all, so I decided to run a test. I measured the temperature in my room with a precise thermometer. I then put the Dyson in "cool mode" blowing air directly onto the thermometer from around 2 feet away. The temperature did not changenot even by a fraction of a degree.

The fan has 10 wind speed settings1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. When set to 10, I find the fan quite loud actually. That is, loud compared to my $45 Lasko Pedestal Fan (that also oscillates and came with a remote!). Also, compared to my Lasko the Dyson wind power is significantly less. The Dyson at 10 is comparable to Lasko at medium. The Dyson also has a much smaller "wind target region" compared to the Lasko which is less effective. The oscillation function works well and the fan can be tilted up or down. Note, the magnetic remote usually falls off when tilting in either directiona slight annoyance and a detail you would expect to be covered given the price of the fan. If you like cool yourself in bed, you'll likely need to place it on a small table as it is too short to reach a bed, even when tilted.

In "heat mode," I did notice a slight burning smell on first use, but it quickly went away and did not return on subsequent uses. The heating works quite well and in a test, it brought the temperate of my bedroom from 62 degrees to 72 degrees in around 20 minutes when set to 10 and with oscillation turned on. In my living room, the "heat mode" consistently blew my fuse when used while watching the television (it didn't in cool mode though).

Overall, this Dyson is less performant than both fans and heaters that can cost less than $50. Unless money isn't an issue and you care more about the visual appeal of the fan than how well it works, this just isn't a good buy.

Honest reviews on Dyson AM05 Hot + Cool Fan Heater

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program SEE BELOW FOR UPDATES

We currently live in a spacious one-floor apartment in the outskirts of Chicago. As of now, it's the tail end of winter here, but, as we've only been in the apartment less than a year, this was our first winter in the new pad. The apartment itself is great, but it's in a very old building with very little updates throughout the years.

The room in which I keep my office is one of those updates, as it seems it's an addition. As such, it doesn't have heating in there, so it can get very cold at times, especially when my wife closes the door during the day. I like to stay up at night on my computer or reading in there, so having the cold doesn't help.

Okay, so on to the heater. When I had the opportunity to order this heater, I jumped on it without hesitation, knowing exactly where I'll be using it. My wife bought a Dyson vacuum, and I like the design of it, though I think it's clunky. So the fan/heater was something to which I greatly looked forward.

When it arrived, the box was very simplistically designed and easy to remove the heater from. You only really have to assemble the base onto it, and that's it. Batteries are included, and the heavy-duty cord is more than long enough for my use. The instructions aren't really necessary, as you can figure out how to operate it from the get-go. The only two things I took away from them were that I can tilt the fan itself to have it pointing down or up, and that upon turning it on I have to wait for it to complete a cycle to figure out the temperature of the room. That's it.

At first use, I wasn't thoroughly impressed with it. I thought it would remain constantly on, though I've figured out later that it sets itself at the room temperature, much like an A/C. Since I really wanted it to aim at my feet, which get the coldest, I was disappointed as my feet were still slightly cold, especially when the heater went idle. But then I messed around with it.

The included remote (which can attach itself to the unit via magnets) is spot on the controls on the unit itself. There's the on button, oscillation, power level, and temperature. The stronger the power, the more it'll blow out, useful if you have it in a bigger room. Upon raising the temperature and the power level, as well as tilting it lower, I was able to get how I wanted it the next night, and my feet were great, let alone the rest of my body and room. Oh, and silly me left the door to the rest of the apartment open, which didn't help control the temperature within my office. Thanks to my wife for pointing out that glaring flaw.

In the end, I am pretty happy with the Dyson heater/cooler. The only real issue I have is with the price. I told my wife I was going to give it four stars, docking one for the price. I feel like the price should be around $150, honestly. But I don't know all that goes into making a device like this, as well as the included features. My wife agreed, but explained that Dyson is a higher-end brand; once she saw the magnetized remote, however, she said I should give it five stars--she thought it was the coolest thing ever. Oh, her...

It's great, and I'm glad I can finally stay comfortable in my office in late winter nights.

***UPDATE 03/03/13***

After a little less than a week of using this product, I'm afraid I have to change my review. I'm not sure if I received a faulty product or what, but I will contact Dyson for support in any case. I tried looking up support on their website, but since this specific model is still very nascent in the public world, there was no help I could find for AM05.

As you read before my update, I use this fan/heater for my office in the back of my apartment, which gets really cold in the winter. As of this writing, it's 20F outside. Since there is no heating in my office, I cannot imagine it is warmer than 77F--the temperature at which my Dyson is set, and it's not running at all. After the second day of use, I noticed that my heater didn't start at the last temperature at which I had it. "Okay," thought I, "it may be that it's a bit warmer tonight." I raised it a few notches and...nothing. I initially had it at 65F the first couple nights, and by the third night it didn't start warming up till I had it at 75F.

So the next couple nights were the same, and I tried unplugging and plugging the thing, which didn't do any help. The unit doesn't start working unless I raise it more, and right now it's at 77F and it's still idle. "Is it really 77 in here?" I asked my wife. "No, that's impossible," she replied. "It's freezing in here."

So, I will contact Dyson and update as needed. It's a shame, because when the unit *is* working, it's awesome.

***UPDATE 03/08/13***

Dyson sure enough emailed me back, and they requested I mail them the product I have for a replacement or repair.

I'll update again when I get another or my current one fixed.

***UPDATE 05/16/13***

I finally had a chance to send my "defective" product, and promptly received a replacement.

So far so good. The one I have now seems to be fine, and has read the temperature sort of accurately. Though it's now much warmer out here in Chicago (70Fs), I'll be updating this review at the end of the year once it gets colder again and I can properly utilize the heating feature.

The cooling fan is fine, though you have to set it really low for it to switch to blue. It's able to blow enough cool air into my little office to the point where I'm comfortable without cranking the A/C. (Though I really don't need to do that yet as it's not immensely hot out for now.)

I'm a fan of Dyson, but not of the Dyson fan.

In simple terms, it is WAY too noisy, to the point that I no longer use it, and therefore have wasted my $300+.... so disappointing for a Dyson product to be so poorly designed.

They work good and do capture a lot of dust. However, they cut the air flow by about 25%. If your ducts aren't sealed properly, I'd avoid any filter like these.

I live in an apartment building and I used them to cover my kitchen vents. It amazing how much stuff they pick up. I always feel my kitchen is cleaner because of them

They do exactly what I expect.......catch a lot of the "dust" in the air we breath. Sure, I would recommend them to anyone who wants cleaner air.

Honest reviews on Vent Mate Register Air & Dust Filters, 12 Pk

This is just like a piece of rectangle felt that you could buy at a fabric store for much cheaper. Vent mate is much better because it is like a cardboard insert with felt, that fits nicely in the vent.I will buy vent mate again on not this True blue product ( even though Amazon has them listed as vent mate they are not vent mate, they are true blue) next time when it is time to change out these.

I have used this type of filter with decent results. I prefer the VentMask to any other vent register filter. I like that you can apply a VentMask anywhere. I use them at home and especially when we take family vacations in our hotels to control my sons allergies. I found them at ...hope this helps others looking for filters.

I bought this heater after loosing money on CozyLegs. This heater is the best little heater, I find the remote control works real well to help from having to get up from our desks to make setting changes. We have a fairly big room we use it in. The only complaint that I have with it, is that when my wife is down here, she can change the tempature of the room from 67 to 75 in only less than 30 mins, and I am complaining that I need the thing turned off.

Nice product for a small room. Has thermostat, auto cut off, oscillates and two heat setting. It also has a remote control. At a resonable price.

I would purchase this product again.

The Optimus heater did a wonderful job heating my 12X12 room. My room started getting warmer within 15 minutes and it hit the 65 degree mark in 25 minutes. Considering my heat has not worked in that room for the whole winter, not bad.

Great little heater. The temperature gage seems to work really well, and the remote control is definately useful. Quiet enough for me to sleep comfortably when it was set on low.

Would definately recommend to anyone looking for a portable space heater.

Honest reviews on Optimus H-7328 Portable 22-Inch Oscillating Tower Heater

Its a fairly good product. And I'm satisfied with it after 2 weeks. However, the remote control could be definitely improved. Its range and effectivity is not the best I've seen so far. Overall a good product for a good price

After reading the earlier reviews, I was looking forward to the arrival of this heater. Perhaps the one sent to me was defective, but when turned on it generated noxious (toxic?) fumes that quickly resulted in eye and pulmonary irritation. I ran it for 30+ hours in the garage with the door open in an attempt to burn off what ever was causing the fumes, but without success.

Further, the unit didn't strike me as being particularly well-made: it was wobbly and the adhesive for the top central Optimus label wasn't up to the task as the label either fell off or slipped askew when the heater was turned on.

Cheap Frugah Black Fireplace Heater Electric Wall Mount Radiator Flame

Frugah Black Fireplace Heater Electric Wall Mount Radiator Flame Effect W/remote Control
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

I bought this for a newly decorated bedroom and installed it on a wall about where I'd place a picture. It is easily seen from the bed versus having to look down at a floor unit. The flame looks very nice versus some of the weird fake looks I've seen. The remote does change the level of flame, but I keep mine on high because it looks so good. I have not used the heater yet, and probably won't unless electricity goes out and I plug it into an extension cord from a generator. I verified it works. My frame is black, looks very modern, and contrasts beautifully with the fire. The black frame does not distract from the fire, as I think a white frame would.

The Amba Sirio Towel Warmer looks great and heats the towels in about 45 minutes to a nice cozy temperature. The installation was complicated by the inexact measurements provided by the manufacturer. The mounting holes are about 1/4 inch off in the diagram, but if you carefully measure from center to center on both vertical bars only a simple adjustment is required to ensure the mounting brackets line up with the warmer's male brackets It would help if a full size template was provided but it isn't. Once installed it far exceeds the heating capacity of the less expensive units.

We thought we knew what rice was supposed to be like when we used our Costco Aroma Rice Cookers--we would just, as a matter of course, replace the old ones with the same brand... Until this time.

After reading up on consumer reviews and Japanese sites, we opted to try the Zojirushi Induction Heating Rice Cooker. The stainless steel is STUNNING--the pictures do NOT do it justice--it is gorgeous on my countertop--a piece of furniture, like the KitchenAid Mixer. It is easy to set up (clock time, etc) and easy to use. (The directions are very clear.) I tried some Jasmine Rice in it for our first try--and WOW! I was totally amazed! Each piece of rice is perfect in every way. I have never had such results before. Perfect temperature, perfect texture, perfect stickiness, perfect taste. The aroma in the kitchen fills the house and it's wonderful.

There is very little steam (unlike most rice cookers) and it is very easy to clean up. It keeps the rice at that perfect temperature for hours--even longer with the extended warm feature.

I know it's expensive--but in this case, I truly believe you get what you pay for. If you want to know what rice is supposed to be like--you must get one of these! Zojirushi makes a couple of different types of rice cookers--and I have heard that they are all terrific. This one cooks with induction heating, which uses magnets... the unit doesn't get hot...

If you can--get this one!

I purchased this rice cooker about a month or so ago. I cannot say enough good things about this rice cooker. It is absolutely fantastic! Everything I've made (rice and non-rice) has come out wonderfully!

I have a cook/warm rice cooker that I'm going to sell at a yard sale. I will never be able to go back to using that type of machine again. The difference between the Zojirushi and the cook/warm is more than night and day. The difference between the quality in the rice bowls alone is unbelievable. The Zojirushi has a bowl that is very thick and heavy, not unlike my stove top cookware. My old cook/warm rice bowl feels like one of my cheap mixing bowls.

Prior to purchasing the Zojirushi, we never really cared for brown rice. It was too crunchy/chewy. Now my family and I love brown rice. The GABA Brown Rice setting is amazing. I have never made, nor eaten, brown rice that was so light and fluffy before in my life. Because of that, we mostly eat brown rice now which is much healthier for us anyway.

You will not be disappointed with this machine. It's looks beautiful sitting on the counter top. Clean up is a breeze the stainless has some sort of coating and does not show fingerprints or smears!

UPDATE 08/12/2012: Well, after years of using this fabulous rice cooker numerous times a week, I needed to replace it. I ordered another one because my husband and I love the way this makes brown rice, other grains, and steel cut oats. The rubber seal on our original model was worn out. If we weren't around to take the food out right away, it was drying out and wasn't hot enough. I looked at the new pressure cooker model, read the various reviews, and decided to re-order this model. However, I am going to look to see if I can do something to prolong the life of the seal on my new one.

Best Deals for Zojirushi NP-HBC18 10-Cup (Uncooked) Rice Cooker and Warmer

Update: We have owned this rice cooker for about 2 years now and it continues to cook good rice every time. Some Tips:

1. Add 10% more water than is indicated, this will make fluffier rice

2. In order to make Persian-style rice, throw in one tablespoon butter and salt to taste with the water: when used with Basmati rice, this would produce fragrant rice with every grain standing apart.

3. For long-grain rice, use the "Soft" option.

4. Please use it to cook brown rice on GABA setting. Exquisite.

-----------------------------------------

We have had this rice cooker for a week now and have already tried all its settings. It's unbelievable how this cooker makes fluffy, moist rice where each grain stands out without getting sticky. This happens whether you put in Basmati rice, Sushi rice or brown rice. It's astounding how the rice remain fresh, warm and hardly dry out. That was a big change for us, having used no-good Oster rice cookers until we went to a Japanese supermarket and saw how cool and functional this unit looked. We are now eating more (healthier) brown rice and not throwing away any rice the following day. The Japanese sure know how to cook rice.

The menu is simple but offers plenty of choice. The inside bowl is heavy and made of Stainless Steel and has deep and clear marking to help you add the right amount of water without having to use cups. The melodies are a bit of a nuisance, but you wouldn't hear them over your dishwasher, so that's quite all right. The cooker does take twice as long as other, cheap rice cookers, but the ensuing taste is worth the wait.

Without a doubt, the machine is beautiful. If you really want to eat great rice every time and can afford the price, this is your best choice.

Honest reviews on Zojirushi NP-HBC18 10-Cup (Uncooked) Rice Cooker and Warmer

Yes, this rice cooker is crazy expensive, but worth it. I agree with all the other reviewers that the rice comes out perfect every time, even if you leave it warming for hours. We only eat brown rice, and were disappointed with previous rice cookers that left the rice crunchy, with that disgusting hard crust at the bottom of the pan. With this cooker, every grain is perfect. We also use the "porridge" setting to cook steel cut oats and hot cereal. We do reduce the amount of water the cooker recommends for porridge, to create a thicker end product. This is just a personal preference, however. This cooker is goof proof. The timer is simple to set, and I find the little melody that plays when the cooktime begins and ends to be adorable. Since buying this product, we've been using it several times a week and eating healthier as a result. It's expensive, but take a deep breath and make this investment. You won't be disappointed.

Great machine for cooking rice of all kinds. Very easy to clean, too, even when cooking brown rice with azuki beans. Has a steam capturing devise which prevents too much steam from escaping into your kitchen.

This big gizmo phase couples nothing at all. It's easy to install at the clothes dryer, and it should work there. But it does not. Returned it.

This item did not work for our home's X10 application. We previously had a repeater/coupler on our dryer and all the X10 signals would go across the two legs of our home. We changed our dryer to a 4 prong and the old repeater/coupler could not be used anymore. We purchased this phase coupler for our range and it would not repeat the X10 signals across the two phases in our home. We ended up returning this unit and purchasing a 4 prong repeater/coupler again for our dryer. Now, our X10 signals are reliable again across the home. It may work for you, but didn't for us.

I bought this so the two phases would be coupled in order to use my X10 controlling system. It functioned for 2 days then stopped working, without explanation. I returned it as the two phases were, in the end, not coupled for my purposes. Returned it.

Honest reviews on Simply Automated ZPCI-P50A Universal Plug In Phase Coupler

This thing works great. Before installing, some of my X10 modules didn't work on certain circuits in my house. When leaving on long trips I had to run extension cords to some lamps in different rooms so as to give the house a lived in look. Now all those problems are gone, and what an easy install.
