great heater for the price and size, heats my 2 1/2 car garage just fine. On low keeps garage at about 45 degrees and will get it up to 70+ degrees on medium +, here in chicago cold weather.

This heater does a great job of heating my 24x26 two car garage in northern Indiana. It arrived from the seller within 48hours of placing my order with standard delivery. The only thing that keeps it from being a five star is lack of a mounting assembly. A little bit of chain wrapped around a ceiling joist took care of that though. It does require a special 240 volt outlet, but the materials to run it can be purchased at any home improvement store. It took me about 20 minutes to run the wire and install the outlet and breaker.

I live in Texas and have a 520 sq ft garage with ceiling/walls insulated, 1 car garage door not insulated and 3 windows. I checked around for code requirements in our area and wired the 240 v/30 amp electrical myself. Mounted the unit hanging down from the ceiling, turned it on and in 2 hours it already had the upper half of the garage up to 60f degrees when 35f outside. Let it run overnight and the garage was 75f next morning....low to mid 30s outside. Thermostat on the unit turns off the fan and heater coils once chosen temperature is reached. Shipper had issues getting the unit shipped... stated waiting for manufacture to ship. Per Amazon's recommendation, I had to send a followup e-mail to shipper to get status of shipment. After that, the shipper sent status mails until the unit had a shipping tracking number. If you need this unit, order early. Took 2 weeks to arrive from the day I ordered it. For our needs ... great price, compact unit and heats as expected.

Honest reviews on Fahrenheat BRH562 Heavy Duty Construction Heater, 30-Amp

I bought this unit to heat small area in my garage. I tested it but didn't need it for two years. The first time I used it for one hour the fan stopped. I tried to buy a new motor but it has no size info on it. Called Marley, they have no info because they import it. They said just buy a new unit. JUNK save your money..

Heater shipped later than projected date, probably due to the Holidays.

Heater arrived in good condition, with no dents or tears in the box.

This heater is noisier than I expected, but really does a great job of heating up my shop.

The unit arrived on time and I was pleased with the compact size and ease of movement with the rollers on the bottom. Simple instructions that get you up and running quickly. I used a standard clothes dryer exhaust vent from the local hardware store that matches perfectly the supplied flex exhaust hose with the unit. Cut a small hole in wall for drain hose (needed for heater) and was set to go. This unit cools extremely well...heat pump avoids the flame or hot wires found in space heaters. Ideal for small room comfort. I have been very pleased in both

hot and cold outside temps with this compact and lightweight unit. A smart buy for anyone who wants quality and simplicity.

I did a lot of research before choosing to get this unit. I was gonna buy another model from the local Abt store and have it delivered, but the salesman was so rude I decided against it. He basically was trying to talk me out of getting one, saying they didn't work as well as a regular window unit. Duh. Truth is, I gave away a new aircon when I moved here because there was a unit in the window. Big mistake. It was a piece of crap -barely worked at all. I vowed to get a portable one for convenience sake.

Then the Abt guy told me that it took hours to assemble the exhaust for the window. That may have been for their units, but I didn't find that at all. In fact, setup for this unit could not have been easier.

I toyed with getting a more powerful aircon but went with this since it was for such a small space. I was right since this space is probably not more than 400 or so sq ft. Because it's been relatively nice out here in Chicago I haven't had the need until a few weeks ago mid June. Then didn't need it until mid July.

I watched a YouTube video to get an idea of how these machines work. All I had to do was twist the exhaust tube onto the machine and then the window piece. No cutting and I didn't even really need to use the screws for the adapter into the window. The adapter just slides in according to size and stays in place on its own. No gaps, either. I savor my windows so I'll be removing it every chance I get because I'd rather have fresh air when I can get it.

I keep the bathroom door ajar and I notice it is stuffy in there, which I don't care about. When I turned it on I could feel the cool air and instantly felt it working. It worked really quickly in cooling the room down and it also carried over to the adjacent room.

I chose this unit for a few other reasons besides great reviews on other sites. One was because it has automatic recycling of water so that even though it is humid, it probably wouldn't need to be drained very much. I was concerned that other units may not work thru the night without needing to be emptied often. This one had so little water draining that I was really surprised. The humidity here generally tops 70% so I was kind of expecting it to shut down and need to be emptied. So far, haven't needed to do that at all. I keep the drain tube on it with a small tray that is parallel on top of a towel behind the unit. I found that when the tube is removed sometimes some water drips out, so the towel catches it.

Today I waited all day long before I finally turned it on in the evening. You're really supposed to do it earlier, but this works fine for me. The room started out at 88 degrees there was no longer a breeze outside and the fan just wasn't cutting it. Less than an hour later, this little hotbox I live in was much cooler. It's a couple of hours later and the thermostat on the unit says 81 degrees. I know that doesn't seem like much, but it feels much cooler in here. I generally like it around 70 or so but for some reason this feels very cool to me.

I'm fairly close to the unit and then I have a mid sized oscillating fan blowing near it so that's probably why. It will be interesting to see just how cool it gets in here. I'll update the review tomorrow. I plan on running it all night since it's supposed to be around 84 by around 10 a.m.

I turned on the heater just to see if it worked when I received it. Haven't used it yet but bet it works just fine. I have gas heat here but figured it would be nice to have something for when I move or need a little heat on an unseasonably cold day before the landlord turns on heat in late Oct or Nov. I like it cooler than most people so doubt I'll use that much in this space. I'm thinking it will come in handy to use in a larger space and just heat the areas I'm in rather than wasting electricity for the entire place.

I'm one of those people who watches the temperature like a hawk because I love fresh air. So if the temp dips after a nice blast of rain or at night, the humidity isn't a killer and I get a gorgeous Lake Michigan breeze (I'm just a block off the lake) it's open window time for me! This unit is a snap to roll across the room behind the chair so that works well. People with limited space will find this unit very easy to manage. It's heavy to lift but I don't plan on doing that much at all.

As long as you don't expect this unit to do more than it was made to, i.e., cool down a place like a window unit would I'm sure anyone would be pleased. As a personal aircon -it really works great. It's not meant to cool off an entire 1 bedroom apt or anything. But it sure works well in a small room. It's a little noisier than I would have liked, but that's no big deal for me and a small price to pay to be cool and comfortable during this heat wave! I hope all of this info helps I like to be as specific as I can in reviews so that people can get a good sense of what they're getting!

**************

UPDATE! Very pleased to report that I've had this unit running now for several days straight we're having a nasty heat wave here in Chicago. The heat has been relentless in the 90s that feels like 100 with the humidity. In fact, there is a heat advisory today. The unit has been recycling the water from the humidity such that I have not seen a drop in the pan. I love that the vent has a directional function so you can send the air where you want it up, down, sides, etc. For instance, when I'm near my desk, I have it blowing toward there. Sofa -that's another direction. And I have a mid-size oscillating fan tower that helps blow the cool air around. I usually like to use that fan alone, but it would do nothing for this heat!

Also I have casement windows which are lovely, but they don't seem to seal up the place like regular windows do so with regular windows this unit may work even better. The thermostat stays from 80-83 but again -feels like 75 in here to me. When the sun is shining brightly I have the shades down and all doors closed. When I don't care to fiddle with the air direction, I sometimes wear a chill its cooling towel like a shawl around bare shoulders. Just fantastic! Between the aircon and the towel, I am as comfortable as could be!

I unpacked it and plugged it in and got an error message that the reservoir was full. I followed the instructions on how to clear the error but nothing worked . Even though it is under warranty the company sent me instructions on how to disassemble the case to find the reservoir sensor switch. no instructions on what to do when I found it or how to determine if it is defective. I'm afraid if I take it apart it will void the warranty so I am searching for a qualified repair person to assess and fix the issue. It will be on my dime I'm sure

I was a little worried about the installation but because I had access to the attic above the bathroom it went well. I removed the existing light fixture since there are other lights in the bathroom and removed the electrical box. Next I cut the opening larger to accomodate the 9422P. I slid it between the beams from the exposed attic side after moving some insulation. Wired it up, slapped on the plastic grill and turned it on. I used 2 red heater bulbs and I have to say it doesn't make a big diffrence. The bulbs were GE Heat Lamp, 250 Watt 4.8 out of 5 stars Price: $7.69 . I do have a large bathroom 140 sq ft and maybe that's why I don't feel a lot of heat. The point is it will help but don't have high expectation that it will make a huge difference.

This heater works like a charm! Before starting my review, please take note that it is NOT meant to heat the air in a room and bring up the temperature. This type of heater heats the objects that are within it's distance.

That being said, let's get to the good and the bad. Overall I give this 5 stars. When I first mounted the heater above my workbench too high (10') and could not feel the heat very well. I dropped it down to around 7 feet and that was the ticket!

Works great for a close proximity spot heater. Perfect if hanging out with friends in the garage having a beer and a smoke.

There are two things I did not like about the heater, but they are both fixable and I recommend you do this. First, the little light that is built in is rather annoying. There are three settings you have to choose from. Pull the string once (I) and it turns on the light. Pull it again (II)and the unit turns on one of the two heating elements. Pull the string a third (III) time and both the heating elements turn on.

Oh, and that annoying light stays on the whole time. You cannot have the heater on and the light off. So I pulled the bulb. Simple fix.

Second downfall is the mounting bracket. It is NOT rugged enough to keep the heater solid when using the pre-drilled slot holes that come in the bracket. Simple fix...drill two holes of your own. The farthest left and right sides of the bracket as you can. Also utilize the hole in the center of the bracket for extra support.

The unit can be 'clipped' on to the bracket upside down as well, if you'd rather the pull string/power cord be on the opposite side.

Hope this helps anyone looking to purchase. Just remember it's not meant to heat the air, only the object in front of it.

-Matt

It is just what we expected. We have it hanging from two chains (one on each side) so that it is lower for our dogs in the garage. Seems to work well. I appreciate the on/off cord. We don't utilize the light, but it does work. I tried to find something like this a couple of years ago and couldn't find one. I'm very happy with this product.

Update: September 26th, 2013 I am ordering my second unit. The first one had a good life and it is still working, however one bulb is out and it isn't worth just buying the bulb. We've continued to be happy with this unit. I would agree with others that this is more a space heater than an overall air heater. We use the chains to extend it down because it wouldn't give the heat we were looking for being mounted to the garage ceiling.

I have been looking high and low for quite some time for exactly this.

A simple plug in ceiling mounted directional heater.

Writing this review while sitting outside under it. I live in Western Washington near Seattle. There are many rainy days, like right now, where I want to sit outside under my covered patio but the low to mid 40 degree weather drives me back inside when my fingers start chilling from the cold and make typing tough. About 4 feet above me this works just fine. However, I can imagine if the temp was 30 something or lower and/or with a decent breeze then the heat would not be enough. Keep in mind this unit plugs into a standard 15 amp outlet so don't expect blazing BTU's.

Install was simple and tomorrow I will install an electrical socket a few feet from it (instead of the extension cable I am now using temporarily).

For the price I have no complaints, however, I would have liked a few things that this does not.

1. An On/off switch for the light. Didn't see one but I could be wrong as I set this up in the dark.

2. More heat. However, I did the math on this real quick. At 1500 watts it is drawing 12.5amps at 120 volts so this is about as much as you can get away with. Some older breakers that can't hold constant 15amp draw (and/or may have a few other things running on the same circuit) will 'trip' open. So, this is about as powerful as it gets on standard home wiring. Can't complain there!

In closing, great little unit, quick install, and after I put an outlet near it, will look like a professional setup. Note: Off set an outlet at least 1 foot away so it is not directly above the unit and make sure to tie the excess cabling off away from the unit as the whole thing does get pretty toasty :).

Honest reviews on Howard Berger Ceiling-Mount Quartz Heater - 5120 BTU, 1500 Watts

I was rather pleased with the quality of this heater considering its low price. It is not industrial grade, but it is not flimsy either.

Under the amp meter, it came it at about 12.5 amps. So its pulling its rating. This uses up all of a residential circuit, or three quarters of a standard shop circuit.

The heat produced is very reasonable. Mounted about 8 feet up, it heats an area about 8ftx8ft.

Remember this is an infrared heater. The air will not warm, the objects it shines on will warm. Similar to sunlight.

I was looking for a heater to attach to my patio wall. It was advertised as a wall or ceiling heater. When I got it, it said it was for a ceiling only. We did install the heater, but you can barely feel any heat. I live in Calif., so I am not overworking the heater. I would not recommend it to anyone.

For those of us that shave in the shower, this is awesome. It sits flush with the tile and is very neat and easy to install. However, if you don't have it on and it fogs up, switching it on will not clear it up easily. It takes time. I have since wired it to my shower light so it comes on when the shower is in use. A little expensive but for something that you use every day, its worth it.

I bought this chiller thinking that it would be great to chill things quickly when I forget to put wine in the fridge or if company comes over unexpectedly. WRONG, this unit is only good for keeping your already chilled wine cold or maintaining its current temperature. In the manual, they mention that your wine should already be cold since it can take hours to get it chilled using their unit. It is not good for quickly chilling anything at a moments notice. They should change the product description to reflect the true use/ability of this unit.

This is a very nice steamer. I called the manufacturer with two questions: (1) the steamer makes a pumping sound, and I was told this was normal. Secondly, the steamer put out water instead of steam on one occasion. I was told to hold the steamer either high or low to get out the standing water. I held the steamer high and the water went down the hose and steam came out. I was told by the manufacturer that this model is one of their older models. The steamer hangs on the wall in my closet, and I use it everyday. I am very happy with the steamer.

I bought one for an air cleaner control in my woodshop. It worked great. I originally had one from Wood which promptly quit working, and the company would not respond. This one is a few bucks more, but it works!

One year later and this unit quit working too. Too dusty in the shop? I'm switching to a spring operated unit.

I now have a couple of these auto-off timers in my house. One on my bathroom fan, and the other on a bedroom ceiling fan. They come in different time countdowns. This one is for 1-2-4-8 hour increments, and my other is 10-20-30-60 minute increments. They are perfect because you just tap the button one to four times and then you can forget about it. No longer do you need to worry about turning off the fan or light.

Installation was fairly simple, especially if you have previously installed light switches or interrupters.

Normally $22 to $25 at the home improvement centers, slightly more to buy here, but worth the convenience.

I love this kettle. I just got it and have only used it a few times. I'll try to post an update on durability after further use, but it feels sturdy and I expect I will only be happier 6 months from now. I made the best cup of pour over coffee I've had. With the accuracy of temperature and the quality of the goose neck spout, the coffee grinds rose as they are supposed to on the initial pour and the follow on pour was consistent, which is just what pour over needs.

I've been waiting for an electric kettle where I could select any temperature desired (as different coffee beans require different brewing temperatures as do teas), hold that temperature for a reasonable length of time, and have a goose neck spout. The Bonavita is the first solution I've found and it is perfect. The controls are simple, the digital readout is large and clear, and the functionality is better than I expected.

I previously had a Hario goose neck stove top kettle and I am way happier with the Bonavita. Here's why.

1. Holds a Temperature: With the stove top Hario, after boiling, I would have to remove the lid to put a thermometer in as I let it cool to my desired temparature. Often, I'd get distracted and have to reboil and cool the water. What a waste of time and energy. The Bonavita lets me select a temperature and let's me choose to hold that temperature for up to an hour once it is reached. I can set it and when I return, it is at the right temperature no matter how long I'm gone. Also, my probe thermometer fits in the vent holes in the top because they are larger than the ones on the Hario. If I want to verify temperature accuracy of the unit, I can do so easily. Since the BonaVita maintains the temperature, if I need 10 seconds or a couple minutes to get my coffee ready, the temperature is still exactly what it should be when I start my pour, instead of a few degrees too cool with a stove top kettle.

2. Won't boil over at max fill: With the Hario, if I filled to the max level and didn't remove it soon after boiling started, it would boil over. The BonaVita can be filled to the full 1 liter mark and will not boil over.

3. Pours well: I found the Hario challenging to pour slowly when full and challenging to maintain a consistent stream when trying to pour slowly. The BonaVita seems to pour better throughout the range of volumes of liquid inside.

4. Lid secures well: With the Hario, the lid just slips in. This means that you need to use a hand to hold the lid on as you tip the kettle to pour. The BonaVita secures the lid with adjustable tabs so that you can set the tension as you desire it. This is safer and keeps my second hand free.

5. Count up timer: I didn't even know the BonaVita had this feature when I purchased it. After you pick it up, a simple touch of the "+" button starts a timer (mintues & seconds) which will count up to 7 minutes. For the best pour over coffee, you are supposed to time your pours and pauses. Now I don't need a separate kitchen timer out on my counter. The Kettle doubles as my timer. AWESOME!

6. Handle comfort & Safety: The Hario wasn't uncomfortable. There are a number of exposed metal components near the handle which could lead to burns. The BonaVita has one of the most comfortable handles I have ever used. I has a good thickness and curve and is designed so that you can primarily use your thumb and pointer finger which are your strongest fingers. It also has plastic between the grip of the handle and the side of the kettle which should prevent accidental burns.

Overall Features:

+ Boils Quickly

+ Set temperature to any degree is simple: The last setting is retained when turned off (but not unplugged) and displayed when briefly when turned on. Pressing +/will modify that temperature. Pressing the Set Temperature button will cycle through the 6 factory presets. I do not believe you can customize these presets, though even if they are not the exact temperature needed, they can get you close so that you only need to hit + or a few times.

+ Recall stored temperature settings for various beverages is simple, though you might want to keep a notepad around with what beverage is brewed at what temperature as it just displays the temperatures

+ Switching between Fahrenheit and Celsius is simple. Press one button.

+ Holding temperature for an hour is simple (push one button) and can be re-selected after a pour for the remaining water in the kettle.

+ Temperature Display: Clear and continues to display even after the unit stops heating water (while cooling down or holding temp).

+ Lights: One light lets you know whether the unit is on (heating) since the temperature display remains on for a time (don't know how long yet. Instructions claim 1 hour if not removed from base after temperature is reached, and 7 minutes if unit is picked up and returned to base). I have had the kettle for four days now, and here is my impression.

What I like:

It appears to do a pretty decent job holding temperature, seemingly staying within +2 degrees of target.

It only requires a handful of button presses to input the target temperature.

The cord keeper in the base is handy, and built so you can adjust how much cord extends out of the base.

The digital readout is bright, very legible, and nicely angled.

The buttons are tactile, and click slightly when you press them.

The handle is reasonably comfortable, and the lid attaches securely, yet it is not difficult to remove.

The pour is very controllable.

The one liter capacity is more than enough to do a pourover for two 8oz cups.

What I don't like:

The build quality is questionable.

While the goose neck spout appears to be braised or welded to the body of the kettle (it seems pretty sturdy), it was attached crooked (c'mon, seriously?).

The curved bend of the spout is showing a kink in one spot.

The ends of the spout both where it meets the body and the end where the water exits are poorly finished. The inside where it attaches to the body has hanging "chads" or filings that are obstructing the flow of water, and the end where the water exists has burrs. I suspect that these obstructions are what keep this from flowing as fast as and smoothly as my Hario. I may clean these up myself at some point.

The outside surface finish of the metal is kind of rough. They could, and should, have taken it to another step of smoothness. The surface is rough enough where I could file my nails on it.

The black heating element cover that is attached at the base of the kettle is not seated evenly.

The logo is printed as opposed to being stamped into the metal, and I fully expect it to wear off (this could be a good thing).

The steps to follow (button presses) to set the temperature are easy enough, but I have to press the power button each time I return the kettle to its base.

It comes with a thin, translucent, PE cover for the base to protect it during "frequent use". Seriously? You mean that this kettle base wasn't made to handle the inevitable splash of water, and so I have to keep it covered with this ugly plastic cover that looks like I left the packing material on?

The 1 liter max fill level line is stamped on the inside, and while not a big deal, is not easy to see.

Sometimes when heating up, it seems to slow down to a crawl as it approaches the target temperature.

The base feels like a thin piece of plastic.

In conclusion: It operates well, but a bit more attention to fit and finish is needed.

Wow, what a detailed instruction manual this comes with!

There are 6 buttons on the base, along with an LED display. I was expecting something more basic, but it's certainly not a bad thing that the kettle has so many features. It's not as easy as "plug in and turn ON."

Once you've reviewed the instructions and set up the kettle with your personal preferences (using the afore mentioned buttons), it's simple enough to use. The exterior does become hot to the touch, and it is recommended that you place it on an uncluttered surface where it won't come into contact with anything else. If you have hard water, it is recommended that you use a brand-name product to remove the inevitable scale build-up. You cannot put the kettle into the dishwasher to clean it. The manual explains what temperature setting to use for coffee and tea (even specifying temperatures for black, green and oolong teas.) Allowing for differences in elevation is also recommended when selecting the temperature. (As I implied above, it does get a little technical.) The "boil" temperature is said to be 205 degrees F (at a relatively low altitude.) You have the option of using the Celsius temperature measure. The goose neck DOES allow for a very controlled pour. The kettle does not whistle, nor will you see steam escaping from the spout at the specified temperatures. I am happy with the coffee and tea I have made using it. The one-liter kettle heats your water very quickly--16 ounces only takes 1--1 1/2 minutes. You must wait 1 minute before refilling it to use it again. Just make sure that you have the necessary space for this on your counter and be prepared to spend some time familiarizing yourself with its operation.

Also--and this may be an issue for many people--it is recommended that you NOT plug it into an outlet connected to a circuit with any other appliance requiring a heavy load. (I may not have worded that correctly but hopefully you'll get the idea.) Apparently it uses a lot of "juice."

I'd say that it is a premium product. This is probably one of the best choices if you want something that will go the distance and that will last. It's solid and does not slide around on your counter. It works efficiently and quietly, does more than you think you'd need, & is attractive. I would say that it's worth the price, especially given the problems/complaints people have about other electric kettles (even those with very recognizable import brand names, most of which are made in China anyway.) I was very surprised to find out that those French and Italian brand names did not indicate the country of origin. So don't be lured into thinking you're buying something made in a European country synonymous with style or craftsmanship. Pretty is as pretty does. Almost forgot to mention: you can even adjust the fit of the lid (to make it as snug/secure [or loose] as you'd like.) It's very thoughtfully designed!

Honest reviews on Bonavita 1-Liter Variable Temperature Digital Electric Gooseneck

This is my first electric kettle and I would have gotten one years ago but I was waiting to find one that had a goose neck to take advantage of improved control for pour over coffee. I LOVE the settings of the Bonavita, the ability to hold the temperature for an hour, and the fine pour control. It is simple, easy to use, and has great features.

Unfortunately in under a month the lid and very top of the kettle (where the lid snaps into the kettle top) already has rust :-( . After each brew I pour the remaining water out of the kettle and hand shake it dry and do the same with the lid, and then set the lid on top of the kettle perpendicular to its natural resting state when it is on the kettle for brewing.

If you are ok with the rust, or know how to prevent it, I would go with this kettle. Otherwise I would look for something made with higher quality metals.

Pros:

Excellent options for settings.

Hold temperature for one hour.

Easy to adjust in 1 degree increments.

Presets.

Fine pour control with goose neck.

Con:

RUST in under one month of using it.

I have been looking for this product for years. Set the exact temperature and that's what you get. Increments of 1 degree plus a few preset options. All stainless. There is plastic inside at the top where the handle is attached, but it is not submerged in water. It is above the max fill line. They put a strip of plastic against the outside of the kettle in line with the handle so your fingers won't accidentally touch the hot surface. Good thinking on Bonavita. The hold feature is priceless. It holds the temp for an hour and then shuts off. They even include a waterproof protection cover for the base. I have emailed Bonavita and they responded immediately. Great company. I believe they worked with a standards committee in order to get this thing to market. Excellent for coffee, tea, hot cocoa, ramen noodles, or whatever. Not to mention much less expensive than the competition. Highly recommended.

I upgraded from an older Bissell Little Green Machine to this unit based primarily on my experience with Bissell products. The PROheat has a number of nice features that ultimately sold me on it and after using it for a few months now I'm fairly pleased with it. I particularly like that you can choose to either have the heat on or off. I've heard some people say that using the heat can break down your carpets more quickly and cause the stain to get worse as it picks up new dirt that is tracked in. I don't know if that's not the case, but since my old Bissell unit lacked heat but did a fine job, I pretty much use this minus the heat. Even with the heat off I'm stunned at how good a job this unit does. It's even cleaned stains that I gave up as a lost cause. Most astonishingly, I usually vacuum first before using the steamer and then vacuum again once it's dry. I've discovered I actually vacuum up MORE dirt after steam cleaning than I did before. Clearly this machine is knocking loose built up dirt which means cleaner and nicer appearing carpets than ever before. I also liked the wand attachment from my old Little Green machine, especially for upholstered pieces and hard to reach spots and this thankfully has that.

But there are some drawbacks and limitations. At least initially you will pick up a LOT of carpet fibers when you use the machine, which means FREQUENT cleaning of the rotating brushes and especially the multiple filters on the unit. In some instances I wound up using tweezers to get out fibers from the particularly small filter on the underside of the water tank. The one on top is easier to clean out, but particles trap almost everywhere on this machine. The water tank holds a pitifully small amount of water and/or cleaning solution which means frequent refills, and it slows down the whole cleaning process. The self contained tank is easy to empty, but if you think that will eliminate odors from dirty water guess again, it doesn't. The tank does seem to leak or the seals don't hold tight and so dirty water does collect in the well that the tank sits in, which ads to the nasty smells as well as adding yet another think you have to clean up. Another particularly annoying habit is the dirty water seeping out the front of the machine by the cleaning rollers when you turn off and store the machine. This is really disgusting and trust me, don't store it on carpet or even leave it sitting there for very long as it WILL leak! When in use loose fibers tend to gather on the underside of the machine around the brush rollers so you manually have to gather it up by hand, which slows down the cleaning process. Once you've cleaned your carpet a few times that problem (hopefully) should minimize, although it has yet to happen for me. As a result there's a considerable amount of maintenance you have to do to ensure your machine is operating under optimum conditions. Even so, it's hard to argue with the results. I would probably buy this same unit again, but would also read up on other models just in case they operate more easily. Perhaps I was used to the utter simplicity of the Little Green Machine and sometimes I wish I was still using it, sad to say.

I just purchased a Bissell ProHeat today and am definitly pleased with my purchase. The carpet which was in rather poor shape has seen a clear improvement and IMHO a professional couldn't have done a better job. The cleaner itself was simple to assemble, straight-forward to load with cleaning solution (I like the combo-tank idea!), and very easy to use.

One drawback was the limited size of the tank for holding cleaning solution, I found myself refilling it 4 times to do 3 rooms and a lazy-boy chair. Of course re-filling was at least easy to do and to be expected when buying the low-end model. Further, as with it seems all of these contraptions, the hand-held attachment would spray at far to wide an angle but thats not a unique problem to this one cleaner.

Overall, for the price, if you have a small house or apartment and are on a limited budget or just like to pinch a penny or two, I would surely recommend this Bissell.

When my old Hoover SteamVac with Power Surge broke down, I really hesitated before buying the Bissell ProHeat. But when my local Target store only had the Bissell in stock, I figured what the heck if I test it out and it doesn't work well (as some of the reviews said) I will just clean it up, repack and return to Target.

Well, the Bissell outperforms the Hoover in every way! Here are the comparisons:

1. tank size yes, Hoover is bigger but the Bissell is a much better design. The Hoover waste water tank is very hard to empty and clean without spilling at least some. The Bissell has a special pour spout.

2. Heat Bissell heats the water and this makes a big difference in terms of loosening and picking up dirt. Huge.

3. Bissell upholstery tool works much better.

4. Bissell is easy to disassemble and clean. The suction end comes off easily for rinsing; the waste tank and lid are super easy to clean as well.

There were some complaints about the machine jamming up or not sucking. Here is what I did:

1. I took my time and rinsed the guck out of the tank each time before refilling.

2. When the suction seemed to lessen, I stopped machine and cleaned out the hair and fuzz under the brush component. Worked fine after doing this.

3. At one point, the water did not seem to be getting suctioned up at all. I called Bissell and they walked me through to the issue: there is a red valve in the tank that will stop the airflow if the tank is too full. How does this occur? By overfilling in the first place. So don't top off the tank or if you see that the red valve has come up (you can hear it stop the suction) then empty some water out of the tank.

Overall, the design is really great I love the one tank for both clean and dirty water, the fact that the water gets nice and hot, the ease in cleaning the machine. In cleaning my living room, bedroom and hallways, I probably refilled tank about 8 times. Not too bad. Took an afternoon to do it and except for pulling the carpet fuzz out of the brush area, it was a clean and easy operation.

Honest reviews on BISSELL ProHeat Full Sized Carpet Cleaner, 25A3

I have been looking at carpet cleaners for a few months. Based on reviews, I wasn't too sure I could find a good product at a decent price, since I didn't want to break the bank. I found this item at Target, and based on my experience with Bissell vacuums, decided to give it a chance. It assembled pretty easily, and seems pretty solid. It did a very nice job on lifting dirt from an alabaster carpet and darker entry carpet, neither of which had been cleaned in nearly two years. I found the upholstery tool to work very well on higher traffic areas that didn't respond well to the pushing the machine over it. Overall, I am quite happy with this item.

As with some of the other favorable reviews, I loved my Bissell in the beginning. But, now I agree with the unfavorable reviews of awful and leacky. My opinion soon changed as soon as the warranty was up. The belt continued to slip, and I couldn't even get one room cleaned. I spent hours on the phone with Bissell Customer Service, taking the cleaner apart fixing the belt, checking other parts, etc. And just recently, the motor pulley broke. Bissell referred me to the only Bissell repair shop in my area (20 miles away...pretty bad for the second largest city in Maryland not to have anything closer). When I called them, they said it would cost approximately $80 to repair...not worth it since the cleaner was only around $150. So, for $150, expect to get maybe a year's worth of good service from the cleaner (if you're lucky).
