Best Hamilton Beach 40886 Stainless Steel Electric Cordless Kettle Deals
I am surprised to see this model is still being sold. I bought this in Canada ealier this year, and it worked only a few months before the base switch stopped working. Because I was now in the states, its was a minor hassle to get a warranty replacement through Hamilton Beach, but one was obtained and cost me $8 in misc shipping costs. That one worked only a few months longer, then died the same way as its predecessor. Fool me twice, shame on me, huh? There seems to be a fundamental engineering flaw with the base switch on the model. Hamilton Beach should take it off the market and re-think the switch. I really wanted this kettle to work for me, loved everything else about it.
Be Careful issue #2: the switch at the base of the carafe is vulnerable and flimsy-looking.
That's it. Everything else about this is terrific. The carafe is stainless steel inside and out, and the water level gauge uses a siphon so it's not in direct contact with the boiling water. And, even the lid is stainless steel. If you're concerned about plastic outgassing during heating, or just the plasticky taste, this is a great choice. Capacity is great too.
Now, as to Be Careful Issue #1, we had a smaller electric kettle with a plastic carafe. It got hot too! Maybe not as hot as this one, but it was certainly nothing we'd leave within reach of our kids. Furthermore, even if the outside of a hypothetical kettle carafe was cool to the touch, it would still be filled with boiling-hot water. So the heat issue is mostly a moot point. As to Be Careful Issue #2, the switch ... well, it may be a weak spot more from an industrial design standpoint than a practical one. We haven't snapped it off yet. But, we are pretty careful about being gentle when we press it down. Don't flick it around like a light switch and you'll probably be okay.
Not too many features to consider when buying a kettle, but this one has them covered at an attractive price ($28.00). This kettle is Stainless Steel, has a visible water level window (back lit while kettle is on), boil dry protection (auto shut off), concealed element, cordless, and it pours very well.
The kettle has 5 level indicators; Min, 1.0L, 8 cup, 10 cup, and Max 1.7L. The level indicators correspond roughly to the following ounces: Min=32, 1.0 L=34, 8 cup=42, 10 cup=50, and Max 1.7L=56. I timed how long for each of these levels to reach boiling (auto shut off). I used the auto shut off as the time end because deciding when it is boiling by looking or listening to the water is way too subjective. Depending on your idea of what boiling water looks like, your times could be more than a minute less than these.
All tests started with 70 degree water:
Max 1.7L 7 minutes 30 seconds
10 cup 6 minutes 27 seconds
8 cup 5 minutes 21 seconds
1.0 L 4 minutes 25 seconds
Min 3 minutes 50 seconds

This kettle is no longer working after only 3 months of use. The auto-off takes far too long to switch off and the kettle leaks terribly. The kettle gets too hot. Stick to a good plastic electric kettle.Best Deals for Hamilton Beach 40886 Stainless Steel Electric Cordless Kettle

Unit heats water very quickly. Like the stainless interior as it eliminates the "plastic" taste that is often found in plastic lined interiors. Cover has to be in place before it heats up which is a good safety issue. Cord neatly stores under unit out of the way. Would recommend this kettle and it's a good value for the money.Sunday, August 24, 2014

We converted a detached garage partly into a 165 sq.ft. art studio. This is the heat source. My big wish was for absolute quiet no fan noise. I got my wish. Not a sound. We got a wall thermostat and I keep it on low all the time and turn it up when I'm going to be in the room. Very nice heater. Dimplex DFI2309 Electric Fireplace Insert Review

The following is the manufacturers instruction manual in .pdf format.I did a little research on the Dimplex DFI2309 Electric Fireplace Insert and here's what I came up with: The manufacturer is Dimplex North America Limited a world leader in electric heating. The company has invested heavily in product R & D and has come up with some pretty innovative and interesting products. Dimplex North America Limited is a member of the Glen Dimplex Group of companies of Dublin, Ireland and employs over 8,500 people worldwide with sales in excess of $3.0 billion.
The fireplace insert distributes an even heat over a wide area by means of a silent fan-forced heater. It will produce approx 4692 BTU's of heat. The flames and heater operate independently of each other so you can have just flames or flames and heat. The fireplace is 100% efficient (like any electric heater). All of the energy supplied to the unit is converted into heat, which stays in the room to keep you warm. Many gas fireplaces advertise 70-80% efficiency. This means that 20-30% of the energy supplied to the unit is vented outside. The fireplace insert operates for pennies a day. The flames use slightly under 120 Watts of power with flames only. With an average electricity rate, the unit operates for a remarkable 2¢/hr. When you choose to activate the heat feature along with the flame, the unit uses approximately 1500 Watts. The total cost to operate the flame and heater is approximately 8¢/hr* (gas fireplace manufacturers regularly advertise running costs of 17¢/hr or more)! *Electricity rates vary. 8¢/hr based on the heater cycling at 50%. Unlike gas fireplaces, which require venting, fuel pipelines, the Dimplex fireplace just needs to be plugged in. When you need a change, you can move it to a different room and when you move to a new home you can take your investment with you.
The fireplace insert distributes a warm, gentle, even heat over a wide area by means of a silent fan-forced heater. Since it will produce about 4692 BTU's of total heat, when working in conjunction with the home's primary heating system, the fireplace is capable of taking the chill off just about any size room, when required. Most gas fireplaces produce over 20,000 BTU's of heat in a single room while the average size home requires only 90,000 BTU to heat the entire house. So there's a good chance you will be heated right out of the room your in with a new gas unit even when it's set to low heat. And what about conventional wood-burning fireplaces? As most of us already know, most wood fireplaces are difficult to start, smoke, create unpleasant cold drafts, and cause a number of other unseen problems. In most homes, they are between -10% and +10% efficient. They supply little if any heat to the house, particularly with cold outside temperatures. Bottom line: Conventional wood-burning fireplaces are extremely inefficient. They can lead to indoor air quality problems, and can result in life-threatening situations. Hence they are incompatible with modern housing, or with housing which has undergone energy retrofit/renovation
The fireplace insert plugs into any standard 120-volt outlet and does not require a dedicated circuit. It is as easy to install as plugging in a lamp! In addition, the fireplace does not require any venting pipelines for fuel or expensive professional reconstruction to your home. The fireplace has full electrical certification throughout North America and no combustible energy sources are used to produce the flame. This means that you never need to worry about oxygen depletion or carbon monoxide poisoning in your home and the unit employs an over-heat safety cut out with reset control as a back up safety feature. The only maintenance involved is done every 2 to 3 years by changing a couple of light bulbs, readily available at any hardware store and you can do this easily yourself. Most gas fireplaces require ongoing, costly maintenance, which must be performed by a qualified service technician on an annual basis. Figure on paying up to $300. dollars a year for this required service.
My personal experience with the Dimplex DFI2309 Electric Fireplace Insert came about some time after my wife and I moved to our new house. Soon after, she decided she had to have a gas fire log like we had in the old house. So, in order to keep the boss happy, I decided to go all out and buy one of the new efficient models that not only looked great, but also give off tons of heat, the only problem, the price. They wanted more than $6,000. for the log set including instillation. Ouch! I then stumbled on to the Dimplex DFI2309 Electric Fireplace Insert. For a price of under $200., I was a little skeptical that this thing could even come close to the expensive gas one, but after reading so many rave reviews on Amazon, I decided to go for it. I figured if it ever turned out to be a mistake, I could always return it anyways. Since I was saving a ton of money, I also splurged on the optional trim kit (Dimplex DFI23TRIMX Expandable Trim Kit for Electric Fireplace Insert) for an additional $160. bucks.
My next job was getting the existing fireplace cleaned out and prepared. I stuffed fiberglass insulation up against the flue door and cut a piece of Styrofoam board to fit the damper opening slanting to the rear of the firebox underneath the insulation so any possible water entering down the chimney would flow away from the unit. At the time, I was surprised at how poorly the damper closed and actually had been designed with a few open holes in it. I had to be losing all kinds of heat right up the flue before the fix. In less then a couple of days the unit arrived and within minutes I had it out of the box and set up in the center of the fireplace. I measure the cord of the unit to be almost seven feet and just made it to my electrical outlet, but a little elevated off the floor, so I purchased a heavy duty six foot 14 gauge extension cord to give it a little more length. The directions only call for a 16 gauge cord, so I'm way ahead of the game. Be advised, the cord runs from the right side of the unit (as you face it). Now the trim package is a little different story and took a little more than a few minutes to put together. It's kind of a one size fits all type thing. There are 15 pieces and a whole bunch of screws involved, but the finished product was very much worth it, for me. It frames off the insert and I think makes it look more realistic and complete. My fireplace opening is surrounded by a one of a kind type tile and I did not care to cover it, but the trim unit framed it exactly without any blockage. My only gripe, the screen is not designed to completely close and leaves a 3 inch gap or so in the middle. {as far as I can figure out}. I got around this by only closing the screen quarter way or so on either side which kind of looks pretty good and makes it symmetrical and frames it very nicely. Update: After studying the mechanics of the closing mechanism for a couple of weeks, I finnally solved the problem and I can now close both screens completely in the middle. I intend on leaving the screens fully closed as it really does look more realistic this way. Says something about the terrible directions that come with the trim package. If you already have a fireplace screen or glass doors, though, I'd probably stick with them as this unit is pretty pricey and time consuming to put together. By the way, the boss loves her new electric fire log and thinks it looks just like the real thing!
Update: Yes, I still love my electric fireplace insert and the longer I own it the more realistic it seems to get.
I have read in a few other reviews, some were disappointed with the mirrored half moon shape at the rear of their insert unit. Well, I finally figured out what it is designed to do. It reflects the back of the front logs with their reflective embers with the flames between the two sets of logs giving a pretty good holographic 3d effect and the grayed out portion of the mirror simulates smoke. Altogether, it makes for a pretty realistic looking fire. I guess you could call it the use of "smoke and mirrors" to get the desired effect.
Update: I have found that this 3d/holographic effect can be increased by placing ambient light near the front of the fireplace insert. I have two lamps, a table and a floor lamp, with one placed on one side and one on the other side of my fireplace about four feet away from the center of my fireplace opening. This extra ambient light helps illuminate the rear reflected log that creates the 3d effect. Though one light is sufficient, I have found that two low watt lamps works even better. (one a 40 watt bulb and the other a 3-way 60 on low)
I would like to address some reviewer complaints regarding the remote control. The first being that the remote has something to do with the plug. Readers are lead to believe that if the plug is blocked by something (furniture) the remote will not operate. Not so. The remote will turn the unit on and off from anywhere in the room regardless of whether the plug receptacle is blocked. For what it's worth, the remote turns the insert unit on and off from anywhere in the house-the remote reception is that powerful. I suppose you could always turn it on while in the bedroom in the morning and get up to a warm living room when you finally decide to get out of bed?
Which leads me to complaints regarding the remote not controlling the heat function. This is only partially true. Once a heat setting is chosen with the switch (high or low) on the insert unit, the remote will turn that heat setting on or off along with the fire display. Yes, it would be nice to make all the heat changes with the remote, but this is not a problem for me. Basically, in the warmer months you would turn off the heat setting at the insert and in the colder months you would turn the heat setting on at the insert unit. No big deal hitting the switch either way.
Finally, to make the simulated fire "feel" even more realistic, I've added the additional senses of sound and smell. First, I ordered a sound effects download from Hypnosis Health Care (on line for $6.95) to my laptop and then copied it to a 512 MB SD card I already had. I then purchased a Satechi SD Mini Portable Pocket Speaker Mp3 player from Amazon for around $29. and I put it in the fireplace. The Satechi unit is the size of a golf ball and is black which makes it very easy to hide and it puts out excellent sound and it has great battery life. It plays for more than ten hours on a full charge, so no interruption in the mood. Additionally, it works great with the Kindle Fire too. Second, I purchased some pinon pine incense from Amazon and also hid it in the fireplace. Now with the look, feel (heat), smell, and sound of a real fire, all that's left is to enjoy!
This is a solution to a thorny problem I faced. I have a rental property with what is either a faux or unfinished fireplace: depneds on your viewpoint. I didn't want to remove it,and i sure didn't want someone lighting a fire in it!
I had available electricity and available gas, but unvented logs, though heat-efficient, can oxygen deficit a room if one is not careful. (And who wants to be careful when sleeping!)
So, I took a chance on this baby at net $175 after using my prime and offered Amazon discounts.
The two speed heater and blower is just about right for a small room.
This loses its fifth star because the designers placed the remote receiver on the wall plg instead of the unit. It belongs n the unit, so you can simply point the remote at your fireplace, and it works.
In my case, the wall outlet is not reachable by line of sight, and so the circumstances rendered the remote control an otherwise nice feature unusable, and turn thisinto a manually switched fireplace.
Wrong, wrong, and wrong. I am in LOVE with this product. I use it almost every day, and people who come over just cannot believe it's not real. One friend is replacing her gas logs after seeing my fireplace. One click of the remote, and you have a fire going. To be honest, I still don't understand how this works on a light bulb. The logs seem to glow, there are little embers that appear to be burning, and the flames dance around just like a real fire.
Oh Dimplex designers and engineers....I don't know how you did it, but you did. For $170 and free shipping (thank you Amazon!) I now have a cozy living room that I enjoy reading or watching TV in. This is truly an amazing product.
I guess you can tell I give it my highest recommendation!
1. The remote only switches on and off. It can not control the heat setting. So you still have to approach the unit for heat setting changes. One good thing is that the remote is wireless (433MHz). So you don't need line-of-sight between remote and the power switch for it to work. Hiding the power cord is much easier with the wireless remote.
2. Although the fire looks real, it may not be as bright as real fire. I guess fake fire may just have its limitation.
Despite of these minor concerns, the unit is pretty well designed. One great advantage is that you get to use the fireplace all year long even
in the hottest day.

OK, so I was a little skeptical about buying the electric fireplace thingy. The doubts? It might look fakey, I wouldn't like the flames, it wouldn't put out any heat.Wrong, wrong, and wrong.
Honest reviews on Dimplex DFI2309 Electric Fireplace Insert
This unit looks nice but is way over priced for what it is. If you are planning on getting good heat from the unit, forget it. It produces a small amount of heat only about one foot in front of your fireplace. I get better heat from a $12.00 heater with the same wattage and btu output. At the high setting the fan is to low, probably for sound reduction, and it may as well not even have the low speed setting. If you want something to look pretty in your empty fireplace then this will work. Sitting in there by itself looks bad unless you purchase (separately) the fireplace trim and screen kit that all looks good when completed. The problem? Thats right, the cost. Another $200.00 plus. And when it comes time to change the 2 bulbs that create the simulated look of fire, you have to take it all apart. Half the price for the combined package would be a fair value.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Dimplex DFI2309 Electric Fireplace Insert
The flame does look very real. This fireplace insert is a great product in general. I took out 1 star for 2 minor reasons though:1.

I have an Aqua Cal Pool Heater, and I had this piece stolen from my unit.... some very smart pool maintenance guy since all houses on my condo has the same heater. However I had to find it very quick and found at Amazon. Works perfectly.

Cheap Miallegro 1760 Air Ionizer Tower Fan with Remote Control Oscillates
This fan is perfect for my bed room at any time. I needed a nice fan for sleeping and this works perfect, level one blows just enough air onto me for a great breeze and sleep. The fan is super quiet for the amount of air it pushes,no fan will ever be silent. You cant hear the motor at all. totally worth it!
i attached the video to hear the fan on each setting. The video starts on setting 1 then when it beeps it goes to level 2 then the next beep is level 3 . about 10 secs apart for each setting. the camera is 2 feet away and not directly on the wind path
update 7/31/13
the motor on setting 1 and 2 will make an annoying clicking sound from time to time which makes the fan unusable at night for sleeping
Now onto my review of the product. I was looking for this particular type of fan because the fans that oscillate the entire tower always end up giving me problems. With the inner oscillation, I find it to be more reliable. This 2nd unit has been just that. Also the fan is rather quiet on the low setting. The medium and high settings on the fan move a large amount of air without the annoying loudness that most fans have. Unless you're a light sleeper, you'll be able to sleep with this on. If you have issues with limited floorspace, you'll be pleased to know that this fan takes up an extremely small amount of space for the job it does. Lastly, this fan just looks cool. It's sleek, has that l.e.d. display, and the display slides back to reveal the remote's location.
Overall I'd have to say that I'm quite pleased with this fan. It does the job it's designed to do and it does it well. For being a brand that isn't as well-known as the major brands, in my case it stands above them.
For people who are worried about noise, and watched the video the other poster posted, remember, that was a directional mike on a camera very near the unit. I was shocked at how silent this is compared to my other fans. At high, this is still less noticeable than my Honeywell at low.
Granted, it doesn't move as much air as that does at high, but I didn't want that much airflow unless I'm drying out my basement. For my great room, this is outstanding. When I have the TV on at a normal volume level, 12 feet away I can barely notice the fan noise at high. At medium, I can kind of notice it if I really try.
I've got oscillating space heating towers, and as others have complained, the rotating unit is annoying and distracting. This accomplishes a great range of motion with only a small portion inside noticable as it moves. And that's more seeing light behind it as the inner mechanism pivots side to side and you are lined up right.
There was no smell or noise along with the ionizing on this unit, but by the same token I haven't noticed anything accumulating around the base as their customer support told me I would when I asked about cleaning the unit. Their reply was that there is nothing to clean in or on the unit, that the "dirt" will fall to the floor near it.
I have no rattling, no unusual noise at all, on any of the settings from the oscillation, no wobble, nothing.
It is incredible on low, because the room feels fresher, you get some slight air movement occasionally as it passes you, but nothing too obvious. Very subtle and very silent. On medium, same thing just a bit more of the breeze. High, it's enough to make me comfortable after work when the house reached 81 degrees since I had the air off all day, without having to turn on the air conditioner.
Now compared to my smaller "turbo" honeywell circular fan, it's not as powerful but then towers would never be that powerful as far as I can tell. If you need a very huge blast of air, this isn't for you. But if you're looking for something to make your area more comfortable without the annoyances of a standard fan, this is definitely a solution for you. Most attractive of all the ones I've looked at, blends very well into the room unobtrusively, and does its job well. Which is what I always look for, something designed well and functions well. This is and does.
EDIT:
24 hours later, the unit no longer oscillates. Light comes on, but the internal mechanism simply no longer operates. So returning it. Went from 5 star review to 3, won't give it a 1 since clearly this is not a "normal" issue otherwise all these people who reviewed would've had a different story, but also obviously it's a crapshoot...
I love this fan. I bought it having semi-high expectations it blew them out of the water. The remote is very nice, the color of the fan fits with all my interior design/dark colored themes. It's sturdy and the design is perfect.
Performance:
The fan is SUPER COLD! I actually have to lower it to temperature setting II b/c III ends up being too cold. I used to sleep with AC on 68 I know, I know, it's very cold. I now set my AC to 75 and sleep next to this fan blowing on me. It is the best thing and has already saved me $50-$100 off my expenses.
Bottom line:
Get the fan, you'll be very happy!

So initially I had bought this unit and had a bad experience with it. It had just stopped working after a couple of weeks. Surprisingly enough Miallegro is pro-active in helping their customers. They replaced it and shipped it for free. Not only that, but their customer service is actually polite. As we all know, lots of companies have rude customer service. I just had to get that out of the way in case any of you have issues with your fan.Now onto my review of the product. Best Dimplex SMP-904-ST Fieldstone Pine and Stone-look Electric Deals
I have a 3 story Beach House on the WA coast. It gets a little chilly on the first floor entry hall even in summer evenings. I bought this unit to take the cool edge off. It is fairly easy to assemble, though package is a bit heavy (recommend opening box and carrying pieces inside one-by-one). Be sure your wall socket is offset from the insert or you will have to move it upward like I did or use an aftermarket recessed outlet)because the insert fits tight againt the wall. The unit looks bigger in the brochure, but was perfect size for me because I want a TV wall-mounted above. There are lots of adjustment options for temp and light/firelog brightness! Very beautiful effect and emanates quality. Has dark glass front nice effect! Love it

On the negative side; when putting together none of the holes line up and the mortar used to form the rock is very delicate tends to crack and flake. When Assembling the mantel one of the bolts kept falling out had to end up glueing it in. Also fire box does not screw into the structure anywhere when bumped it does slip out and has to be pushed back in. The overall looks is okay and it does work for heat. Do not feel that it is worth the price paid....Best Deals for Dimplex SMP-904-ST Fieldstone Pine and Stone-look Electric

I will start by saying that finally, after installing two of these units in my 1500 sf workshop, I am very happy with them. They cool and heat very efficiently and quietly and there are not many units on the market which have the power and features of this one.
However, it was a long road getting to the happy point I am at now. I initially ordered two of these from Amazon, and they arrived quickly but both turned out to have been damaged in shipping. This is partially the truckers fault but a good deal of the blame must be laid on the manufacturer who does not package this model with sufficient protection to withstand the typical abuse which cartons endure in truck freight. There is is only about 1/2" of styrofoam between the front and top of the unit and the inside of the carton, and no crush space whatsoever. So both units arrived with bent case frames and one also had a cracked front grill piece and bent interior pieces.
Amazon offered to replace them but were out of stock so after some discussion I agreed to keep the least damaged one (I was able to bend the case back into shape) of the two for a discount, ship back the other for a refund, and order a third unit from TheFactoryDepot, one of amazon's resellers.
Well, guess what? The third unit arrived damaged in shipping as well. After much more discussion, this time with TheFactoryDepot, they agreed to allow me to go pick up a replacement at their warehouse which was luckily only about 30 minutes from my home. This unit was undamaged and so I installed that one as well.
We weren't through with our troubles though because the 2nd unit I installed (the one we picked up at the warehouse) soon started displaying a trouble code on the panel and stopped cooling. So we had to call Frididaire to have it serviced under warranty. There 3rd party service company came to the house and repaired it but they had to order a part so this took about another 10 days. Finally, about 6 or 8 weeks after our initial order, we had two working units installed and they have been cooling and heating nicely for the past 2 to 3 months. The remote is great it has all the controls to change modes, and control heating, cooling, thermostat, fan speed, energy saver, timer, etc. This is important to me because my units are installed 7 feet from the floor (to the bottom of the unit), and I have never needed to actually get up on a ladder to fiddle with the front panel once you get the airflow louvers pointed the way you want there is no need for that.
I wouldn't recommend this model at all if there were a lot of alternatives, mainly because of the poor packaging, but if you need a heating+cooling unit this size and you are prepared to potentially deal with returns and repairs then this is the unit for you. I don't say that entirely facetiously once we got all the startup problems solved these are very nice units. If you can find it locally or can pick it up from a warehouse I strongly recommend that as the packaging is very poor. That's the main reason I didn't give 5 stars.
It seems to have a tendency to short cycle but does not seem to hurt it. Doing some research on this issue now.
Would buy another one.
Shipping took a little longer than advertised but was not an AMAZON problem. Trucking company called and advised their truck had broken down and was in for repair.

Love the way this unit works. Really cools the garage quickly after pulling a vehicle in that has been in the hot sun or on the road all day. Love the way the blower runs only at the speed needed to do the job then slows down and shuts off when the set temperature is reached using the econ mode. This should really be a money saver compared to my 20 year old unit that (blower motor ran all the time) gave up the ghost after a lightening strike. It seems to have a tendency to short cycle but does not seem to hurt it.
