I liked my little Windchaser a lot.
It was a tad on the noisy side... but compact and very toasty.
It made my entire downstairs room warm and welcoming from its home beneath my desk.
But now it has up and died after one year of use.
I'll miss it.
Will I buy another one?
Not sure. It was warm and comforting during our time together.
But I'm looking for a longer term relationship.

Cheap Lasko 5307 Oscillating Ceramic Tower Heater, 16-Inch

I've had mine about a week. Initial impressions so far are all very positive! This model is yet another 1500 watt ceramic heater and there is no shortage of them from several makers. Initially I set out to buy one of those fake portable fireplaces or wood-stoves with the visible fake fire inside. Reading all the specs and user reviews I could find on every one of those fireplaces and stoves it seems the maximum heat they put out is exactly the same as this far more compact and much less costly Lasko heater. About 1,500 watt power consumption and approximately 5,100 BTU heat output is the most you'll find in a portable room heater for home use. I settled on the ceramic type because of the rapid heating since I am only going to run it when I'm in the area where it is located. Ultimately since I only need an auxiliary heater a few months out of the year I decided that I really didn't want a fake fireplace or wood stove collecting dust the other 8 months of the year when I didn't actually need to use it. The Lasko is very compact stowing under the bed out of the way when not needed and is easily portable with a built in recess to use as a carry handle in the top back of the unit. I also read reviews about how the fans in some of the portable fireplaces/wood stoves were very noisy which next sent me looking for a very quiet ceramic heater. The word QUIET kept coming up in reviews of this Lasko heater and mine in fact makes hardly any sound at all! You do hear a low hum but that is all the sound mine has made so far and it does not interfere with TV or music enjoyment. The cable is 6 feet long.
I compared numerous brands of ceramic heaters with built in fans including Bionaire, Sunbeam, Honeywell and others. The Lasko warranty is 3 years which is the second longest warranty out there as the Bionaire has a 5 year warranty. The Lasko oscillates, it is very compact and is stylish looking more like a stereo speaker than a room heater. I also own a Lasko high velocity utility fan that continues to serve me well. Collectively those were the deciding factors in choosing the Lasko brand. Bionaire makes a good product as evidenced by their longer warranty, but their user reviews were not as strong regarding reliability on similarly priced Bionaire models.
The Lasko oscillation function was difficult to visualize before plugging it in, but how it works is that the entire unit except the small black base pivots silently left to right then right to left in a travel arc of about 45 degrees when you press the silver OSCILLATION bar on the control panel. Press the oscillation bar again and it stops moving immediately wherever it is at that moment. Now that I've used it the oscillation does actually seem to speed warming of the entire room and is a worthwhile feature I would definitely want again.
After looking for a space heater with a UL Seal I could not find one! I also looked for a heater made in the USA or at least North America and could not find one of those either. While made in China like the others and there is no UL seal, this one seems well made, sturdy and works perfectly. This heater is not easily knocked over, has an overheating safety shutdown, and is safe around pets or small children as it only gets warm to the touch. It has a red LED power light that is always on when the unit is plugged in whether turned on or not.
I would not hesitate recommending this Lasko portable ceramic room heater to a friend but encourage you to shop around as your needs might be different from mine. For example, an oil filler radiator type heater makes more sense if you plan to run it about all the time. If you need quick heat in a small to medium sized room for a few hours per day then a ceramic is probably better for your needs than the oil filled radiator type you run about all the time.
There are 4 settings on the operation switch which are OFF, Fan Only, 1 for Low Heat and 2 for High Heat. On high heat it consumes 1,500 watts, on low heat about 900 watts. The fan is always on when the heater is actually heating and cycles off when the thermostat turns off the heating element. The fan only has one speed but it is adequate enough to double as a small personal fan in hot weather making this unit more versatile than I expected when I bought it. The "fan only" feature may keep it out from under the bed in the summer but it won't replace the high velocity Lasko utility fan I own that moves a ton of air.
This unit's thermostat is easy to use. Once the room is at the temperature you like, slowly rotate the thermostat left until the unit cycles off and it will then cycle on and off to maintain a comfort level that is in the same ballpark.
I have turned down the thermostat on the main heat to 60 degrees and using this unit for the small area where I spend most of my awake time to make it more comfortable. Hopefully it will save money by not heating the entire place to 70 degrees. All on it's own it will heat up about 150 Sq Ft. to 70 degrees on high setting in 30 to 60 minutes, then cut it to low and it will maintain room comfort indefinitely. If you use a 15,000 BTU AC unit to cool an area, you can not reasonably expect one 5,100 BTU portable heater alone to heat the same area unaided, because you probably would need three of these units. When using in an area much larger than about 150 sq. ft. you may find you have to run it on high all the time to get much benefit. In order to get the maximum economy a space heater like this should be ran on high for about an hour at the most to warm up the room then reduced to low to maintain the temperature. If you find it is running on high all the time without warming the room enough so that you can turn it down or have the thermostat cycle off then you probably need to add a second or even a third one. The 150 Sq. Ft. rule seems to apply to all these 1,500 watt room heaters. This unit is not intended to heat an entire home, floor or even apartment unaided. Think of this as a whole-room heater, not a whole-house heater.
There is no remote control or digital thermostat control on this unit, but those features add a substantial amount to the price and I don't mind manually setting the thermostat. Other Lasko models are available with those extra features if you need them. I only use it when I'm up and around so I don't mind turning it on and off, changing the power setting or setting the thermostat manually. The last thing I need is yet another remote control to buy batteries for and lose in the sofa cushions.
So far as operational cost in concerned, it is easy to calculate based on your cost per kilowatt Hour for power. On high any 1500 watt heater like this one uses 1.5 KW per hour when actually heating. Here I pay 13.9 cents per KWH so it costs me about 21 cents per hour when heating on high setting in constant use. On low setting when heating it uses about 0.9 KW per hour so that costs me about 12.5 cents per hour of constant use. Your cost per KW Hour may be lower or higher so you'll have to do your own math. I run mine on low except for the first 30 minutes or so. If I ran it on high constantly heating for 24 hours it would cost me about $5, on low it would cost me about $3 for 24 hours of constant heating. I only run it about 8 hours per day and mostly that is on low, so the most it will cost is about 30 dollars per month, but that is not counting what I save by cutting down the thermostat on the whole house. The Lasko doesn't run continuously and it cycles on and off maybe running about 60% of the time on an average day here which is about 50 degrees outside for a high temperature and 30 for a low. It should save me some money over heating the entire house to 70 degrees, but I'm not sure exactly how much yet. I do know I am warm in this room and the main heat isn't running nearly as often or running quite as long when it does run.
I thought about the infrared cabinet heaters that have become so popular but didn't have the $175-$300 to pay for one at the time. I have to say, I am extremely impressed with not only the quality of this little heater (the size of a surround sound stereo speaker) but with the effectiveness at heating the room (approximately 400 sq. ft).
Very pleased... I think you will be too.
Due to the toxic odor emitted from this heater, I cannot recommend it to others.

I was very reluctant to purchase this heater and did so based on the only 3 reviews I could find. I have a basement room in my house that can get pretty chilly during the midwest winters (approx. 20 degrees outside = 55-60 degrees inside).I thought about the infrared cabinet heaters that have become so popular but didn't have the $175-$300 to pay for one at the time. I have the "designer" version from this maker and wanted another for the bath downstairs so took a chance on this one. It is a different style but basically the same quality. Was not disapointed, it is just as well made and trouble free as the designer one and heats up my bath very nicely. Also it has a nice long electrical cord which makes it easy to place where you need it. I expect to use them both for years to come.Honest reviews on Lasko 5307 Oscillating Ceramic Tower Heater, 16-Inch
I live in a 40 foot, 1 bedroom trailer. I need a safe way to heat during the winter months. I have 3 tiny dogs and 2 cats inside. It worries me that they would knock papers off of the computer desk, catch fire, and burn the place down! At first I bought one heater and I love it! Very quiet, warms up quickly, no extremely hot surface to catch paper on fire! I liked the first so much I bought a second for the bathroom/bedroom end of the trailer. I can't tell you how awesome these heaters are! For the first time since I have lived here, I have quiet, consistent heat and the front end is as warm as the back end! When the temperature is right, I click the dial and it keeps the room that very temperature! Note: Walmart sells these heaters for $32.97 each.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Lasko 5307 Oscillating Ceramic Tower Heater, 16-Inch
I purchased this heater to replace a very old Lakewood 1500W ceramic heater that began working incorrectly. Although this heater is quiet and produces plenty of heat, upon running the Lasko heater, I was immediately presented with a terrible headache-inducing odor as the heater element got hot. I expected that it would go away after a little while, so I shut the bathroom door, opened the window, and let the heater run for a few hours to burn off whatever was causing the awful smell. It didn't work. I continued using it in the mornings while getting ready for work for the better part of a week, and the smell never went away. I finally decided that I shouldn't be breathing such bad fumes, so I returned it. Also, my colleague at work has this same heater, which she has had for months, and it still makes the same odor after being used for a much longer period of time than I had mine. Clearly, this is a manufacturing issue. I've owned a number of other ceramic heaters, and none of them have produced anywhere near the same amount of odor when running as this one.Due to the toxic odor emitted from this heater, I cannot recommend it to others.

I drink tea every morning. Until a couple weeks ago, I was heating water in the microwave every morning. Then my brother-in-law informed me that was the least efficient way to heat water, I did some research and found he was right. I was very excited to get this electric kettle. I looked for one that could be lifted off the corded base, had an auto-shut-off, boiled water quickly so I could get out the door quickly in the morning, was not expensive, and did not have plastic in contact with the water that could leech BPA or other dangerous chemicals. I took a chance on this one based on what I saw and read here.
In most ways, this kettle works great. There's a light indicating when it's on, it heats 16 oz of water in a little over two minutes, is easy to handle, use, and pour. The plastic locking lid is a little awkward sometimes, just pushing it down does not always close it tightly, sometimes you have to pull the lock back with your finger at the same time.
But on the bottom of the box there is the California Proposition 65 warning (from the 1980s) that this product is made with chemicals known by the State of California to cause cancer or infertility. Ok, fine -which chemicals and are they going to leech into the water or are they say just on the lid or handle? I was unable to find any explanation or answer to that question.
On top of that, there is a strong odor inside this electric kettle when it gets hot. It is strong enough that if you boil water, pour the water out, open the lid, put your nose up to the top and take a deep breath, you will recoil a bit. It's not a disgusting or especially bad odor. I'm not able to identify what the source is, whether it's from hot plastic, or hot silicone, or something else. But in combination with the chemical warning (and I'm glad to be warned if it's not safe), I'm not willing to risk my health on a cheap electric kettle that might not be safe for the daily long-term use I intended for it.
I am trying to return the kettle. Since it was sold by an Amazon partner instead of Amazon proper, I am still waiting to hear whether that's possible and how to do so.

Thank you for your comment. They accepted my return request within a few days.
He uses it now to boil the water for his ramen noodles and instant coffee and he loves it!
The only thing is he says it takes a while to boil the water and maybe doing it by stove is faster than this kettle. It also doesn't keep the water hot long after it boils. It's good for him because there is only the plug and on/off switch so his technophobe mother can use it without freaking out :D
Good item for the price. Stainless steel helps prevent the plastic taste of water like the plastic kettles and doesn't leave residue like glass kettles after a while :)
-Water indication level when you open the top and look on the inside, there are rims indicating the minimum and maximum and something in between also.
-The Kettle detaches from the heater that gets plugged in at the bottom.
-Its very lightweight but it gets the job done. Once water is boiled, it shuts itself off.
For years I have warmed up water for instant coffee and tea bags in the microwave. After seeing a similar, but larger, kettle that our son had, we decided to give this a try. It heats a cup of water to boiling in the same time as the microwave and we don't have to reach up to get the cup out of the microwave a plus since both of us are not tall. The auto-cutoff works as advertised. I recommend it without reservation.

I had an aroma tea kettle of similar design which worked great and produced water flavored water, but it died suddenly after only a year of use. So I thought I would try a different brand and bought the Brentwood version.
If you want boiling water for washing your dirty socks, the Brentwood is for you;the toxic flavor may help kill the cooties in your socks, too. But for drinking or cooking, forget about it!
Picked this kettle as it seemed to fit the criteria. No plastic cheap viewing window, won't break easily if dropped (not tested) unlike the glass kettle(s) and reviews seem favorable. Bought the kettle and put it to use as soon as it arrived on June 23rd 2011 (literally minutes after it arrived I had washed it, boiled one max fill and poured it down the drain to prep the kettle).
It has been used on daily bases (multiple times) up until about 3 days ago when I noticed that kettle is displaying curious symptoms, namely I will turn the kettle on and it would not boil water until I turn it off and then on again. Also sometimes it will start to boil the water but then cut out half way through or turn on and off in random cycles. It is still usable, simple turn off and on usually fixes the problem and kettle boils the water as expected.
It has lasted Almost 10 months without any issues, no spills, no leaks and nothing broke off (yet!). For the price I'd say it served it's purpose well enough although product life expectancy might be something to be longed for in this case. Having said that I am giving this product 4 stars out of 5. Others might have had better luck with their orders of this product however, so I would recommend basing your decision on more than one review.
UPDATE (December 3rd 2012): It has been almost a year and a half since I bought this kettle so I believe I can comment on it's performance and life-expectancy a bit better. Since the kettle is still operational (with occasional glitches described above) I have upgraded the rating to full 5 stars.
The kettle still works as well as it did when I wrote the original review. An occasional mishap when the kettle fails to turn on or cuts out during the use before it finishes the job it has survived through is not enough of an issue. It's more of a nuisance that I have learnt to accept. The kettle works as well as expected for a product that was designed by an imperfect being (a human I hope?).
The upgrade of the rating is due to the simple fact that the kettle has not developed any additional issues (no leaks, no broken parts or bits missing) ,it looks exactly as it did when it arrived 12.5 months ago (maybe not as clean I'll admit, since I can never get into little nooks an crannies around the handle).
UPDATE (March 15th 2013): A curious development with the kettle. The issue that I had described before where it would fail to turn on or it would turn off too early etc. has now vanished. Kettle is still performing as when it was when we first got it which actually amazes me as I am one of those people that think companies nowadays tend to design their products to fail within a certain period of time and therefore make us buy products more frequently. The kettle did not develop any new issues after being used every day on average about 4 times (sometimes more often). If I HAD to pick one thing to complain about I'd say that the base is too light which means that the heavy duty cable will move it about depending on how you have it positioned. Obviously this is picking at straws so to say, honestly it has lasted longer than any kettle I've used before (and I've used a few back in the UK). This one's definitely recommended if you want something that will last you.

Will this water ever stop tasting like plastic? After six weeks of boiling water twice daily in the Brentwood tea kettle, it still tastes like plastic.Thinking it had to be from condensing water dripping down from the inside of the plastic cover, I tried leaving the cover open and blocking it with a china teapot lid. No luck, the boiled water still tastes like plastic, not my favorite flavor!I had an aroma tea kettle of similar design which worked great and produced water flavored water, but it died suddenly after only a year of use. So I thought I would try a different brand and bought the Brentwood version.

The kettle was a replacement for a plastic kind that I had used previously. After my "old" kettle broke down (the water level window popped off) I had decided to aim for something a bit better built without any windows or weaknesses where water could eventually find its way through.Picked this kettle as it seemed to fit the criteria.

Here in MI things get cold quick and living in a cold finished basement makes things tough. My computer room is a tiny 6x10 and doesn't have vents for heat. The hallway near the doorway lacks them as well so it gets very cold. When I saw this heater for i figured to give it a try for that room.
The heat is just about instant. No waiting for it to warm up. The thermostat works nice to keep the room at a very comfortable level. Nice to have so you don't have to keep adjusting and turning on and off. Sound is very quiet. Much more quiet than my normal desk fan, but it sits on the floor under the desk. I just realized its sitting right on the carpet and I wouldn't worry about it falling over or anything. It is very sturdy and kicking it somewhat gently doesn't knock it over. The unit is very cool to the touch even while running. I actually picked it up while running and was examining the bottom.
I was kinda disappointed about one thing. From the picture on the box I assumed it would oscillate which would be a cool feature, but since its only its not a big deal at all. It does have a swivel base that turns about 45 degrees either way, but with it being so light I don't see a point.
This unit is 1500 watts ... um or amps ... whichever the case, my computer is a gamer computer and it draws ... a lot. So the point is that when I am gaming, I have noticed that every time the heater kicks on the lights dim a little bit just for a split second since I have them both running off the same circuit. I don't know if I would put them in the same outlet ... but then again nothing goes into the same outlet as the PC anyways.
Pros: light, quiet, instant heat, doubles as a fan, PRICE!
Cons: not really any unless you need one that oscillates or you are going to land an airplane with your Christmas lights this year.
The plastic grill does rapidly change color to show it's hot, but I found that unneeded because the grill itself never gets hot. At times, I've had it accidently fall over or get covered, and it's never overheated or made something crispy. :-)
The thermostat also works well, and is easy and user-friendly to adjust. The fan is very quiet; sometimes I don't notice it's on. It's very lightweight and is easily swiveled to fine-tune the direction.
Mine finally died after frequent use for 8-10 months, but I feel I got my money's worth, and I'm buying another to replace it.
My only issue is that it stopped functioning after only a month. I may have bought a bad one. I called Holmes, gave the serial number and promptly sent me a new one by UPS.
I was very pleased with their customer service and I just hope this one will last longer.

I used this both for cooling (in fan-only mode) and heating. The heat works great, and it warms up almost instantly. The cooling side is good, but it doesn't push as much air as some regular fans, so I need it a 2-3 feet away to feel enough breeze to cool me.The plastic grill does rapidly change color to show it's hot, but I found that unneeded because the grill itself never gets hot. I bought this heater early January when we went through some cold weather in Miami. I was very pleased with the way the heater was heating up my bedroom (about 12x12). You can set the heater at the temperature that is comfortable to you (note that there are no precise thermostats that allows you to set your room at a specific temperature, but just a comfort thermostat that works just fine). it generates a lot of heat in a short period of time and woks wonder. My only issue is that it stopped functioning after only a month. I may have bought a bad one. I called Holmes, gave the serial number and promptly sent me a new one by UPS.

Bought this to warm a cold study but it started sparking on the 3rd use ( and past time I could return it). Completely defective I can hear loose wire when I pick it up. The sparks were frightening if I hadn't been in the room I don't know what might have happened but now I understand how space heaters burn houses down.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Holmes HFH421-U Heater Fan with Adjustable Thermostat
I bought this in the winter of 2007 to heat a cold office. It worked well and I used it for a few hours each weekday for two winters. Toward the end of the third winter (last year), it started turning off after a few minutes of use. Now it stays on for about two minutes and then shuts off for 5-10 minutes. It's not being used in an enclosed space or with anything close to it; it seems to be sensing overheating without actually overheating. Maybe I'm expecting too much by thinking this should have lasted longer, but two and a half winters of use just doesn't seem like enough. I wouldn't recommend this heater.Friday, October 10, 2014

This heater is much noisier than the older model I purchased yeats ago and which I am more than content with. I probably wouldn't purchase it again, tho' the price was right. This is the best heater your money can buy. Im putting one in every room. This heater does not cause a surge and make the power go out.

Update: My 20'x 20' master bedroom with a 15' vaulted ceiling is just too big for this heater. It runs continuously and can only warm the room 7 degrees above the temp of the rest of the house. It looks like I will need to switch back to central heating, since no electric space heater goes above 1500w.
Overview: Overall this seems like a great little heater, the handle does make it hard to carry, a slight curve in the inside of the handle would have made all of the difference in the world, but I had already read all of the complaints regarding the handle before I bought it so I knew what to expect.
I am using it in a master bedroom that is approximately 20x20 with a high 15' vaulted ceiling. I will find out tonight if the room is too big for this little heater. I also have it plugged into Kill-A-Watt to approximate how much it will cost me per month to run, but more on that later.
Problems: One big gotcha, big enough to almost make me take it back because I thought it was not working, was that the tip-over sensor does not work on thick carpet. After unboxing it and plugging it up nothing happened, so I looked all over it thinking maybe it needed a fuse or something. Finally figured out that the carpet was so deep that it thought it was tipped over so it would not come on. The remedy was to place a piece of cardboard between the carpet and the underside of the heater so that the tipover sensor would be pushed up inside the heater. A gravity based sensor or a more sophisticated pressure sensor would not have this problem, but it would probably drive up the cost.
Quality of Materials: Seems about on par for the price range, mostly plastic, I believe the grill in the front is metal, a nice touch is the heat indicator alerting you to when the grill is hot to the touch. It definitely is not 'cool to the touch' within a few minutes of running I would not recommend touching the front grill. As others have said, moving the heater when it is hot is a challenge due to the poorly designed handle.
Annoyances: The brilliant blue light in the front is quite annoying at night as others have mentioned. I am considering opening up the heater and just disconnecting it, but I'll give it a few days before I decide. Also, as others have mentioned the fan is really loud, its almost as loud as a window AC unit, and it did wake me up a few times during the night.
Ease of Use: Knobs and buttons are clearly labeled, unpacking was a breeze
Now the fun stuff: Most people buy a space heater to save power, the thinking being of course is that heating one or two rooms of a house is far cheaper than heating a whole house. I do not claim to be a HVAC expert by any means, but what I can tell you is that if used improperly a space heater can end up costing just as much if not more than a central heating system. For example, I intend on using my space heater from around 10pm each night until around 7am in the morning (9hrs). This heater uses 1500W of power which equals 1.5kW/h. So if this heater were to run continuously for 9hrs a day, 7 days a week for 30 days it would consume 405kWh x 0.097 which TECO charges per kWh = $40/month. So this one heater has the potential to cost me $40/month.
Of course in the previous example the heater ran continuously, which would mean the room is too big for this heater, if that is really the case then I have other problems. But it does go to show that these heaters can still rack up electric bill costs. To be certain I am saving money with this heater, I am using Kill-A-Watt to see how much it is actually going to cost me per month, I would also recommend putting a heavy duty timer on your outlet such as this: Intermatic TN311C 120 Volt Heavy Duty Grounded Timer to ensure it does not run during the day when you are not home.
Obviously my results will in no way be comparable to anyone else's results due to many variables: square footage of the room, outside temperature, building materials (i.e. block holds heat better than wood), insulation, etc. But I would recommend to anyone expecting to save power with one of these to do your own power usage testing instead of just assuming heating one or two rooms is cheaper than heating a whole house.
Scary stuff: Using the same .097/kw/h rate above and imagine placing this heater in a place that is too large for it to heat, thereby causing it to run 24 hrs/day. This one heater would add $104.76 to your power bill (((1.5kW * 24hrs) x 30 days)) x .097cents per kWh) = $104.76. Moral of the example is, make sure you put it in a room it can handle, make sure the room is reasonably insulated and the door(s) are closed as much as possible, and whatever you do, don't leave one of these running when you are not home unless you have to.
As it turns out, there is NO beeping sound when the temperature changes, and as for the annoying light...I've had alarm clocks that were worse than the light from the tower heater. If the light bugs you, all the more reason to snuggle under the blankets. I love being able to set the timer on the heater and crawl under the blankets, and not having to crawl out to turn it off!
After about 3 weeks, the automatic shut-off got activated and the heater stopped working. There is instruction on the cord that advices you to unplug the heater and wait for 10 mins before using it again. I followed it and it again started working. But after another week, everyday, the auto shut-off would kick-in within like 5 mins of switching on the heater. After that it was consistently just working only for 5 mins and then will automatically get reset after about several hours to only run for another 5 mins. It became so frustrating that I returned this back to Target.

Initially when I purchased this a month back, it was heating up pretty good. The only problem I had was that the temperature difference between the heater turning off and on again was like 4 degrees. I got one of these last year because i wanted a strong heater in a small package, small footprint, to use in my bathroom, because the built in heater stopped working. It's perfect for heating a small room like that. Then i got another one for my bedroom, it's quiet, strong, and small, it fit into a small space near the bed. Then, i got a third one for the living room. The living room is a large room, and i use the heater like a small fire place, it really pumps out the heat. It's not going to heat the whole living room, but sitting next to it feels like sitting next to a small fire for warmth, very pleasant, not too hot when close to it, just a nice strong warmth. In the living room, the central heating doesn't do that well heating the lower part of the room on a cold night, the heat rises and it can be set on a high temperature and still be cold where we sit, so we use these heaters to warm up our space, nice source of heat, very portable, lightweight, sturdy. No complaints, it's perfect for what i use it for.
I'd recommend this for anyone with a small area to heat. a bedroom, computer room, sewing room, etc. (mine's in a room about 12 foot square). I doubt it would efficiently heat a room that was too much larger.
Follow up review Nov 2011: I just plugged this item in for what will be the 5th winter season. It works as great at it did when I bought it. Still a great item and highly recommended.

Update: 26 Feb 2009. I am keeping this Lasko heater in the living room. I have bought another heater for my 8' x 10' guest bedroom, the Optimus H-5210 Infrared Quartz Radiant Heater available here on Amazon. The Optimus is virtually silent, and takes a bit longer to heat a room that has a ceiling fan (from 60 degrees, it takes a couple hours to truly heat the room up to 70 degrees), and that's fine with me.

This is a handy little heater that serves its intended purpose well heating a small room. I use it to take the chill off my computer room which is not usually heated like the rest of the house since I'm not in there all that often. The unit itself is plastic with a metal grille, but it feels very sturdy and well made. The fan noise level is acceptable. It is far from silent, but is quiet enough that it doesn't interfere. The controls are straight-forward. One dial is the power dial which has 4 settings: Off Fan Low High. The other dial is the thermostat with an infinite range of settings between and +. (I've found that just below the halfway point is very comfortable, but then again, the winters in California aren't exactly subarctic)I'd recommend this for anyone with a small area to heat. a bedroom, computer room, sewing room, etc. (mine's in a room about 12 foot square). Lasko warms nicely but thermostat is such that heater stays on a long time (5 minutes or more) but doesn't come back on for a long time, maybe 30-60 minutes. It's the opposite of another heater I have which comes on frequently for a short time each cycle. So with the Lasko you get almost too warm by the time the thermostat shuts it off, but temperature in room has to drop quite a bit for the thermostat to turn it back on. I find myself manually turning it on and off via thermostat.Sunday, May 4, 2014

For years I've used a kerosene heater to heat my garage, and found it acceptable for occasional use. On my last trip to the gas station, Kerosene was over $5 per gallon. Now, each time I wanted to do a project in the garage during the winter, it cost me $3 to $4 just to take off the cold! Being the cheapskate that I am, I shopped the online used stuff site we all love, and purchased a used blue flame heater for $80, that looked like new. The owner told me it worked great. So I parted with the cash and hooked everything up to my new gas line in the garage. After an hour, I went out to see how things were going. Obviously, there was a problem, because the garage stunk to high heaven. I had just wasted $80.
After reeling from my loss of four crisp Twenty Dollar Bills, I suddenly became a very smart shopper. While I was not able to do comparisons on anything but paper, I decided on the ProCom based on what "seemed" to be the popularity of the system. Also, I went with the infra-red design, based on the notion that newer usually means improved. Minutes ago, I fired up my new heater, and I could not be happier. After a few minutes of running, there are no fumes at all. I even went outside for a breath of fresh air, and to tune up my nostrils for anything I may not have detected earlier. No problem! This thing burns clean!
I live in the Detroit area, and could not locate a retail store where I could pourchase this unit. On-line seemed to be my only option. Then, as I was driving to Central Michigan University to pick up my daughter, it occurred to me that the buyer demographic in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan (up north, as we say here) may actually stock these things. They do, and the price at Manard's was competitive with the best I found on-line. I'm sold. You can't go wrong with a ProCom.

Have been using an electric metabolic heater for years in the garage, decided it was time to get more comfortable. Installed this heater in my garage, aka "Man Cave" and couldn't be happier. I would say this is the best item I have purchased in the past few years. Installation was simple, hookup to natural gas a plus and it heats up a 3 car garage in a little over an hour from about 45 to 70 degrees, exactly what I was looking for. Gas is so much cheaper than electricity it just makes $ence. Would definitely recommend and buy again.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for ProCom Vent-Free Dual Fuel Infrared Radiant Wall Heater - 5-Plaque

I had not used a Crockpot in about 15 or 20 years because mine was one of the old ones that the crock cannot be removed and the size was pretty small. I have had this new cooker only a week and have used it 3 times. It cooks perfectly and is easy to clean.

I like using this crockpot for making healthy bone broth. It is large enough to hold big soup bones. I also use it for cooking dried beans and roasts. It works well and it's very attractive.Best Deals for Pro Chef PC710 7-Quart Oval Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel
I bought this one so I could make larger roasts, etc. I am very happy with it and I love to cook in my slow cookers. My problem is getting prepared early enough so I can really slow cook. There is a door to door frozen food delivery company that has some great dishes to put in the cooker frozen. They are wonderful and easy for me to remember.Honest reviews on Pro Chef PC710 7-Quart Oval Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel

This in-wall digital timer is definately an upgrade from the old rotary timers I grew up with. However, installation is a little difficult as its size is as large as the common in-wall mounting box leaving very little room for the wires and connectors. I definately recommend this product though if you are confident in installation or are paying someone to install it for you.
2. It handles CLF light good because it uses a real mechanical switch to turn on/off the light. I can hear it sounds a tiny click within one foot in distance.
3. Its "random" feature makes its time control more like a "manual control": say you want your lights on at 7:00PM, by choosing the random feature, your light will be on between 6:45PM and 7:15PM randomly.
4. The display is too small for old people.

My nephew had purchased this same timer switch and I was able to see it in action. I was so impressed that I purchased it shortly thereafter. After the installation I set up the timer and it worked perfectly after that. I use it to turn our front garage coach lights on at dusk and then off at midnight. It works just great.Honest reviews on Intermatic EI500LAC 7-Day Single-Pole Digital Time Switch, Light

After searching, I found the timer that will work with LED lights. Works great and was easy to install. One thing is that timer is large (deep) so will be very tight if your junction box is not full size. Many exterior walls against concrete block walls (CBS) use smaller boxes. It will fit but there is not a lot of extra room.Wednesday, January 8, 2014

I wanted a firepalce with realism and this one fits the bill. The only thing I would add is some crackling sound. Overall, I am very pleased with this insert,it looks great.
On the heating ability I would describe its heat output and noise level equivalent to a ceramic heater.
My wife now wants another one for our bedroom.

We are on a budget and wanted a fireplace insert for our custom fireplace surround that we were building. Our major concerns were price (of course), realism and depth of unit. I knew the price and size were good from the description but I was a little leery about the flame effect. I unpacked it and fired it right up and was quite impressed with the effect, it is better than I thought it was going to be.On the heating ability I would describe its heat output and noise level equivalent to a ceramic heater.
