I would probably have given it a better rate but it is missing something that should be there which makes it not work with my fireplace heater. As far as the way it was packaged it was a rating of 5 I'm sure it works fine for one of the Amish Heaters just the wrong one for mine. thanks anyway. i also give it a 5 for the amount of time from the time I ordered it to the time I received it. This is the smallest fireplace type space heater I have seen. I have used the larger size in my bedroom, but even on low, it was too much warmth for the space. This smaller Dimplex unit is just right. In about a 12'x12' room, a few hours of this heater on low warms us up on nights when it's in the low 30s, upper 20's. I'm very happy with it; the style is great and it isn't hot to the touch. Unlike the larger types, the heat on this one comes out of the lower front panel instead of from further underneathbut that's the only difference. The power is wonderful and the flames-look, relaxing. It's also very quiet.

I was disappointed that the first cube package that I opened was defective so with that in mind, I decided to return all three Dimplex Mini Cube Freestanding Electric Stoves. The three packages were picked up by Fed Ex on January 29th and to date have not received my refund. Not at all satisfied with this transaction. I purchased this as a gift for my wife and went through the instructions step by step in setting it up in an existing fireplace only to find that while it looks great it does not however produce hardly any heat at all. Unless you're standing, not sitting like you would a real fire place, but standing literally directly in front of it and over it you will not feel any heat. I contact the seller and was basically told that, "it was what it was", and I'd have to deal with it. Highly aggravated now since I already went through the not so simple task of trimming it out in order to fit the existing opening, as well as running wires up to the attic and then down behind the wall through to properly mount the thermostat control I now had to undo all I had accomplished in order to package it back up and send it back due to no cooperation or help of any kind from the seller. Amazon however was and usually are easy to deal with on returns. I would NOT recommend this product if you are expecting it to maintain some warmth in a room any bigger than a small bedroom or large closet. But again, we were impressed with it's all around look. So just don't purchase on any grounds to based on using it as a heater.

This is a general overview of the Edgestar 14000 BTU dual hose air conditioner.

Buying experience: Average

Product was slow to be delivered, approximately two weeks from the time I placed the order until I actually received the item. Buyer's need to keep in mind that this product is not sold by Amazon. It is some external site that sells via amazon. Most buyers will not face any complications but it is important to know that dealing with some little dotcom is very different than dealing with Amazon in terms of service, quality of product, and returns.

Design: Below average

Product itself is extremely bulky in girth and tall in profile. The "portable" tag is rather misleading. Yes, anything is portable but due to the weight and size of this unit, it is not very portable at all. While it looks very slim in the pictures, it has a large rear section where the dual hose is located. The control panel on the unit is also not very touch sensitive and the power button became non-responsive after a few uses.

Product use: Poor to Unacceptable

It is also very unlikely that this product is a 14000 BTU air conditioner. It cannot, I repeat, cannot cool a space larger than 500 sq feet. It has been used in a wide range of temperatures (72-95F) and completely fails to lower the room temperature by more than 5F. I would estimate that it can cool a space that that is at most 200 square feet. Also note that the unit is very prone to condensation and leaks. Puddles form around the unit on high humidity days. Be careful when using on hardwood floors. It is a disaster waiting to happen. Window kit also had a nice big crack around the hose connection area.

Manufacturer/Tech support: Below Average

As mentioned previously, when dealing with an external seller, it can range from annoyance to frustration. First tried the seller for help and as expected was referred to the manufacturer as "this unit should be covered by the warranty". Manufacturer was must have all of one employee working for them. Impossible to get a live person and even then it was the standard read from a script response.

In summary, this is a dismal product with even worse support. It would be best to avoid this brand and seller. I would not recommend this air conditioner even on a sweltering summer afternoon.

I bought this unit as a birthday present for my husband's new workshop. The square footage of his shop is well under what the unit is rated for, but it was worthless in real heat...we live in South Texas. We called Compact Appliance, who sold it to us with a 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee and they told us to call the manufacturer. They have ignored all subsequent requests for assistance. Manufacturer said its not designed to work where the ambient temperature is over 90 degrees. REALLY?? Why would you spend that kind of money to air condition an already cool place? I will never buy from Compact Appliance again and I will tell this story to anyone who will listen.

Don't buy this money pit!!! Big waste of $730 (original purchase plus repair costs!!!)

On the day after the one-year warranty ended, it stopped running. The manufacturer was rude & very difficult to work with and as a "favor" sent the replacement part at no charge. The part that failed had been redesigned because a tendency to fracture under heat stress. I opened up the back and realized that the job was way beyond my own diy skills. I shelled my own $130 for the repairman, who was very hard to find. He kindly informed me the secret is most AC techs are not qualified to work on mini-duct ac's, which is technically what this unit is.

One year later, the electronics have failed, and having moved to New England, there is NO-ONE who does mini-duct AC work. Still need an AC, though, to keep the creepy basement dried out and the mold at bay...

I read all the reviews and this seemed like the perfect heater/ac for my little office. Well it didn't even come close to cooling my office this summer and now that it is winter I was optimistic that it would at least heat my space...no such luck. In hindsight I should have bought a couple of little heaters and a good fan. I would have been $400 ahead and cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter....sigh.

I love this heater! It takes about 20s to heat up, but it's a great heater for a small room. I turn it on at 1200W when I get home and in about 20 minutes, my room is noticeably warmer than the rest of the house. Our house is huge so a central heater would be inefficient, so we use space heaters. Ceramic heaters that blow out air warm up rooms the fastest, but use 1800W vs. 1200W or 800W from this heater. It does oscillate and allows you to tilt the heater as well as change the direction of the heat manually, without having to turn oscillation on. Have not tried the remote yet as I keep it within an arm's length away.

I've hung a shirt over this heater before & took a bit too long in getting it off, so the alarm light came on because it was overheating. I was nearby and watching it, but it seems if you did something stupid like went away while you left your shirt on the heater, then it might burn out or cause a fire (or it might turn itself off). When you lift it up, the safety function comes on and it does shut itself off.

I bought a Soleus 14" as well (400W & 800W) and to compare with the soleus which is a bulb, I think the Soleus is more instant & has the 400W option, for those who want to keep the heater close by and not looking to warm the whole room. The Soleus is a lot brighter because it uses a bulb, whereas this one uses coils. I feel like the Soleus is a bit warmer at 800W than this one at 800W, but the Optimus will probably be better at warming up a room at the same 800W. The soleus, when you lift it, will momentarily turn itself off, but will come on again by itself (whereas this one will stay off & you need to turn it on again).

This one does make a bit of noise while it's starting up, but becomes quiet after. I'd highly recommend both the Soleus & the Optimus. Just have to decide whether you want 400W & 800W (Soleus) or 800W & 1200W (Optimus). I've been keeping the optimus in the bedroom to warm up the bedroom and the Soleus in the bathroom to warm myself instantly & for only a short while.

Instead of buying the Presto heater from Costco AGAIN, I bought this one because of the new features:

* Very simple 800 or 1200 watt settings (Costco's Presto is 1500 watts, manually adjustable with the knob)

* Timer (3 settings~ save energy!)

* Remote (comes with a snap-in bracket that can be mounted on the arm of the heater) works well IF you point it right at the sensor (located at the base of the heater). I thought it didn't work in the beginning and almost wanted to return it. Finally I figured it out. IT WORKS!

* Up-down manual tilting

* Tip-over (or if you want to move the unit) Auto shutoff (Presto will make a beeping sound if you move it. This one simply shut it off.)

Overall, the quality is good with the additional features that WORKS. I just don't wanna spend the same money buying the same old stuff from Costco. This one is a keeper. The only possible concern is the warranty. I cannot found the company's contact phone number (they only provide an AOL email). :P

If you are looking for up to 1200 watts (not the highest power), additional features such as timer, remote and up/down tilt, this is a good buy! :D

I recently purchased the SUNHEAT Electronic Infrared Zone Heater. I bought this product for my father who sleeps in a reclining chair at night. He wanted a heater that would warm the air in the room and after using it for less than a day, he said the room felt more comfortable and it was easier for him to relax and sleep. The product works better than expected and it is quieter than I thought it would be. This Sunheat has a 3-year warranty if you check with others in the same price range you'll probably find a one year warranty that, in some cases, does not cover labor. It has a wood cabinet not metal or plastic and nice digital readout. And most important it works great! And will last for years not just one year. I feel Sunheat is not that well known compared to mass advertised brands but it is the best heater for the money. I trust it because I have oil heat in my home and I refuse to pay around $4.00 per gallon I heat using two infrared heaters and two radiator heaters in a mild climate in winter of 20 to about 50 degrees my house is about 1200 sq ft., Over oil heat I save a least $200 per month and I am nice and toasty warm. Their other heater has a 5 year warranty and you can't go wrong with that.

Update: 4/17/2013 Unit has never been in a damp area, yet the cabinet is starting to delaminate on the top front edge. Also, on the rear where the intake filter screen is located the chassis was not drilled correctly for the assembly screws causing the sheet metal to be rippled. This keeps the screen from fitting correctly. Poor Chinese workmanship.

Problem with them typically is that it is very very warm near the heater, and not so warm away from the heater. Uneven heat distribution actually makes the room less comfortable.

This heater does a better job by allowing you to split the heater into two halves. And yes, that does provide better heat distribution.

But so would having two small heaters spread out across a room. The only thing you save is the outlet.

I am not too keen on the point of it all. Perhaps it is easier to carry than two independent units for some?

It is a good heater though. Both parts are effective heaters in and of themselves.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This heater stinks. Literally. I guess there's a burn-in period with heaters in plastic housings, because I've returned other heaters for the same reason. It's a bit disconcerting. The fan is also pretty noisy when it's on high, but the offset for that is that this heater brings the room temperature up to comfort level very quickly.

The heater is easy to use, both as a tower and as a "stereo" heat source. It is true that the tower formation does not hold together super securely, but it works for me to be able to separate the heaters without having to give one of them a bear hug. This is a ceramic heater that will never reach the temperature necessary to combust paper, but it is still not safe to leave it on unattended, including overnight (I'm pretty sure that's the same for all space heaters the same warnings came with my oil-filled radiator and my infrared quartz heater).

First of all, it's easy to set up right out of the box. Even if you haven't read the instructions although you really should. :)

It's lightweight and easy to carry around. Also, it works fast. I felt heat the SECOND I turned it on.

It has a programmable thermostat. It tells you the current temp. of the room. You select the temp you would LIKE, and it automatically warms the room to that temperature, and then stops running. That feature is going to save us some money on our electric bill. Our other space heaters just run and run until we shut them off.

It's nice that you can separate the two halves of the unit. You can have one unit at your feet and the other near your upper body. Or you can share the heat with another person. The halves fit together easily and neatly.

If I had to pick a negative, I would say that there are a LOT of cords lying around. It sometimes looks messy to see all the wires. But that's a little nit-picky. This is a great space heater with lots of nice features.

When moving the heater from room to room, the top heater tumbled off and cracked against my right hand in an awkward way, giving my fingers a "stubbed" feeling for a little while. This was annoying when it was cool, but I can't imagine this thing falling off if the unit was hot. You'd need a pot holder to put it back into place.

Also, the one I received also seems to have a thermostat glitch. I turned in on in our bedroom last night where it was probably around 67 degrees. Our bedroom has a very high ceiling and is always chilly. The heater was set to 71 and would not kick in. I turned it up and nothing. I'll continue to investigate this issue and update if anything changes.

We have several tower space heaters in our home and this is by far the least useful. If I was purchasing another heater I would get an oscillating fan that has quieter controls. I found the control beeps on this heater to be loud, especially if you're using it at night when kids are asleep nearby.

The two heaters stacked look more like a speaker and take up less room than the Ambia side-by-side dual heaters that sits on a base. One control on the top heater determines if the top, bottom or both will be running. There is also a thermostat setting which is supposed to allow you to set both the top and bottom independently of each other, especially useful when using them up to 9' apart. This flexibility is perfect for our cold office.

When plugging the heater in you immediately get a thermostat display, which after selecting the auto mode, can be raised or lowered. The display on the thermostat said 77. After selecting auto mode I lowered the thermostat to 70 for each heater. For some reason the display jumps back up to a higher setting apparently what it believes is the current room temperature. The thermostat appears to be off by a number of degrees. The heater seems to work just fine in manual mode, but that means the heater is constantly running.

The book doesn't help with this issue other than to say if it's not coming on, you've already reached that temperature. I can guarantee it's not even close to 77 in here and wouldn't want it to.

I did raise the temperature setting on the thermostat to 75 and both heaters came on for a time. The thermostat display now says 82 and the heater hasn't come back on over a half hour later and it's been rather chilly in here for awhile. I've since raised the thermostat a few degrees and it's still not coming back on.

I'd give the product 5 stars for looks and the ability to use it up to 9' apart if it worked, but with the malfunctioning thermostat this is practically useless for what we need, hence the rating it received.

Amended 10/26. Was able to get a hold of customer service using the phone number on the instructions booklet. The number is listed a number of times throughout the booklet including calling regarding the 3-year warranty. I was told that this is the wrong number to call for the Ambia product line and the guy apologized but said he had no idea what number I should be calling.

I bought this model heater from Sam's club, for the same price as Amazon. It has easy to use thermostat and fan controls, puts out plenty enough heat for most small bedrooms, and has a great fan output while remaining very quiet by using a blower instead of regular fan blades. I aimed it blowing under my bed and it keeps the mattress warm as with the room. Definitely the best heater for the price range I've ever found.

I originally purchased this heater to use in the garage when I work on my cars during cold weather. For kicks, since my master bedroom tends to get colder than other rooms during the winter, I tried it in there and it works great. It's reasonably quiet, much more so than a few other space heaters I've tried that were advertised as "quiet". The two knobs are simple to use. With the heat knob at about 40% of full setting and the fan knob at the second lowest setting, it does a great job of keeping a large bedroom, a large bathroom, and a large closet nice and toasty all night. This heater blows a ton of hot air at full setting, much more than is need in most rooms. At 40-50% setting, it blows warm, comfortable air, does *not* get hot enough to burn, and I can comfortably rest my hand over the front grill. It is child and pet friendly. The unit is well put together and sturdy. It's virtually impossible to tip it over. It pivots to adjust the airflow angle. This is one of the better purchases I have made in a long time. I would buy it again without hesitation. I rate it four stars simply because it's not silent.

I ordered this since it came with a ceramic bowl. I couldn't understand why you would get the other Hot Shots when you can get this one for the same price and with a ceramic bowl.

HERE'S WHY...

This model is shorter than the other standard ones. You will NOT be able to get a standard 16 oz mug under it without hitting the drain spout. If you look at the description this one says it's

7.8 x 5.8 x 9.8 inches. The other ones that show a mug under it is:12 x 5 x 4 inches...definitely taller.

You can get a 16 oz mug under it but it will have to be a squatted one. Personally I think Sunbeam was stupid for making two different types. This is why I give it only two stars since it should have been in the description.

Update 1/10/13 I originally gave this two stars but have since changed it to three. I still stand by my original review about the height for 16 oz. mugs, BUT I didn't think it fair to judge the unit solely based on that. The unit itself works very well. It brings the water to an almost boil within a minute. Very fast.

I had bought one of these years ago for myself and purchased one for my oldest daughter two years ago from Bed Bath & Beyond for college and it was the hit of the floor (hot tea, hot cocoa, oatmeal). Hers along with this one I just purchased from Amazon (because BB&B didn't have them) came with a bowl which was nice for instant soups too. Heats up fast and with auto shut-off I feel that this little item is well worth the money. By the way, the one I purchased yrs ago is still working!! This item came within a few days and was delivered without any problems.

The Hot Shot is a fantastic product. It heats a mug's worth of water faster than anything I know of. I own two of these--one for home and one that sits at my office desk.

PROS: Heats water faster than a microwave. Priced right for its value. No cleaning needed (because you're only boiling water with it); takes up minimal space. The ceramic bowl is a nice addition, too.

CONS: The space between the water dispenser and the platform is not much more than the length of a standard coffee cup. If you have a big coffee mug (like me), you won't be able to fit it under the dispenser. It's odd that the space is not adjustable (or that the unit isn't just a little taller to accommodate travel mugs). The only other con, if you consider it one, is that it heats only water. You can't (or shouldn't) heat milk, soup, spaghetti-o's, etc.

Overall, if you want something that doesn't take up much space and helps make a quick cup of tea or anything that just requires boiling water (dehydrated soup, instant coffee, cocoa, oatmeal, etc.)... this is a great product. It lasts years and does exactly what it says it does, just like any product should.

I bought this heater/dispenser for a recent trip to Disneyland/Universal Studios. You can imagine how much food costs at those places.

It is small enough to fit well into a larger luggage bag. It will even fit fine in a carry on if you do not have too much to put in the bag. The ceramic bowl is attractive, useful, and sturdy. I even wrapped it and carried it on the trip with me.

The dispenser worked like a charm. I used it to make tea, cup a soups, oatmeal, and to rehydrate dehydrated camping food (chili, etc). I ate well and for a fraction of the cost.

This heater heats so quickly that I have started using it at home instead of the microwave for oatmeal, tea, and other things. Things come out less dry than when I use a microwave.

My only complaint is that the cups have to be pretty short for making hot drinks. I usually drink out of a 16 ounce tall mug, but even my 12 ounce and shorter 16 ounce mugs will not fit under the drip. Only my 10 ounce mug is short enough to fit under the drip. This is frustrating, especially since the heating capacity is 16 ounces. Other than that, though, this is a great and well priced product.

This is a great little water heater. It takes about 1 minute to have hot water for a cup of tea. It is much easier to make a cup of tea so I've been drinking more hot tea (a good thing). The Hot Shot is flawless and will do cup after cup after cup without trouble. I look forward to a version with a better water dispenser button, but the fact that the existing button is not cool in no way diminishes how cool it is to have a mug of hot water in under a minute. If you drink hot beverages, this is the thing for you.

This works great for warming the lotion for a baby after a bath, and is easy to use. The lotion is warm, but not hot. You will need to fill the dispenser from your normal lotion bottle and the dispenser plugs into an outlet.

I owned the other conair lotion dispenser for a couple of years and I dropped it and it broke. So I was happy to find this newer model! It's awesome being able to adjust the temperature of the lotion and if your lotion is thick, it will thin it out and make it silky warm! Great being able to apply warm lotion on your body especially during the cold weather! (-:

The intructions don't tell you how to prime the pump. I was about to send it back when I tried using water first, then transferring the pump to the lotion. After expelling the water the lotion then flowed freely. The biggest complaint I have for this item is that it does not heat very much lotion at a time. One pump's worth, then you have to wait for the next pump to heat up. I hope this helps!!!

I recently purchased this product for the cold winter months in the North. I also had to put lots of lotion on to prevent stretch marks during my pregnancy but dreaded putting cold lotion on. This product I would definately recommend to anyone that likes to put lotion on but hates putting it on cold.
